Your page is throwing a bunch of errors, many of which seem unrelated to
timeline. Perhaps fixing those first would help narrow down the
timeline problem.

[Simile-Widgets] SIMILE TimeLine

2015-06-30 Thread John Israel
I am trying to do a timeline of ancient Rome. This spans from BC through
AD. I am using an XML file to populate the time line.

I have no problem entering a start of just a year (ex start=63 BC), but
I can't seem to figure out how to enter a specific date (ex start=23 Sep
63 BC or start=Sep 23 63 BC).

Thoughts?

[Simile-Widgets] Simile Timeline - Events present but not displaying

2015-05-24 Thread John Ruf

I am working on a site that uses the Simile Timeline. I am using Kendo Core
for the single page application components. I am loading the timeline from
the results of an ajax request. I am manually adding the events. When I
check the console the events are populated on the event source. However
events do not display.

What do I need to change to get the events to display on the timeline?

A demo of the site can be found here
https://boiling-caverns-6225.herokuapp.com/#timeline/555d2b0fb3e6d93c10786162
.

My stack overflow question is here
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/30408222/simile-timeline-events-present-but-not-displaying

Thanks in advance.

[Simile-Widgets] simile timeline on android

2013-10-25 Thread paul chubb
Hi,
I have a timeline application that works well on firefox on linux.
When I open the same application in the webkit browser on my android phone,
it draws the timelines correctly and allows tap on events to open them.
However dragging with a finger doesn't make the timeline move.

If I open the same timelines in chrome on the same device, they don't
display.

Any ideas on what is wrong or how to troubleshoot would be welcome.

Cheers Paul

2012-03-16 Thread Steve Pai
Are you talking about the event_tape being custom? Look at the examples
test_example_2 - it shows you how to accomplish this using 'classname'

Also look back on my previous question 'custom event tapes', it has a bit
more information in there if test_example_2 is not clear.

[Simile-Widgets] simile timeline modification

2012-02-06 Thread keneso
Hi,

I have installed the simile timeline script, and I would like to
correct the date stamp, and remove the time stamp from the bubble box
when you click on the event; but not being a coder I can't figure
what, and where to go to edit; there are so many js files in there ...
I put this line in the xml file:
Code:

event start=May 23 1844 isDuration=true title=Dichiarazione de
Il Báb image=images/House-Shiraz.jpg
Il 23 maggio 1844 Il Báb ha dichiarato la Sua missione. a
href=Vai a bahai.it/a
/event

and in the bubble the output is
Wed, 22 May 1844 22:00:00 GMT
whereas I'd like it to read
Wed, 23 May 1844

Thank you

[Simile-Widgets] simile timeline files

2012-02-06 Thread keneso
Hi,

I've installed the script, and uploaded the whole api folder to the
server, I chose to have use
script src=api/timeline-api.js type=text/javascript/script

Do I need all the files, and folders in the api folder for the script
to work?
How do I control the height of the script, I put it to 320px, but when
I try 400px the box with the border does go to 400, but the two bands
stay at 320; I also tried to put a thick border, but the bands would
stay behind the border.

Thank you for shedding some light into this.

[Simile-Widgets] Simile Timeline scalability.

2011-08-23 Thread Lutz Biedinger
We are using the timeline to display publish dates of books etc.
loaded in via JSON. The list of dates can potentially contain 300,000+
items although more likeley to be around 25k. The line is laid out
with two bars one for centuries and one for years. To load all these
dates into the timeline at once pretty much kills the browser. At the
moment ~4000 items seem to just about be okay even if very slow.

is there a way to load the descriptions asynchronously via AJAX as the
events are displayed? Ideally we'd still be loading in all the dates
(visible) on the century line as this would be needed for navigation,
but the details are only loaded when the particular event is shown on
the year bar.

Does anyone have any idea if this is possible, or how much improvement
in relation to the number of items/events that can be loaded we could
expect if something like this was implemented?

Cheers,
Lutz

Re: [Simile-Widgets] Simile Timeline scalability.

2011-08-23 Thread Michael Nosal
Yes, dynamically loading of events via AJAX is possible. I've used this
technique often, and it works extremely well. Here's what I did:

On load of the timeline, I only load today's events, since the timeline is
initially centered on the current time. The user sees all the events for the
day. As the user starts scrolling, a scrollhandler fires and checks to see if a
new date is coming into view. If so, it sends an ajax request to the server for
the events for that day. It adds them to the eventSource and repaints the
timeline. If the user scrolls back another day, the same thing happens, adding
new events. If the user jumps back in time, using a calendar widget, the
timeline jumps to display that date. This causes the scroll handler to fire,
loading the events just for that day.

If the user scrolls the timeline manually often enough, then eventually the
number of events in the eventSource will get very large as the Ajax keeps
fetching and adding more events. It would be a simple matter to purge out
events to reduce memory use, and refetch them when they are needed again.
However, my user audience tends to spend most of their time looking at today's
events plus/minus a day or two, so the total number of events loaded remains
manageable.

You can further restrict the number of events shown by using filters on the
events, for example initially showing just fiction books, or books in a
specific genre. When the user selects a different category or genre, you can
fire off the Ajax request to fetch those events.

For your century/overview band, remember that there is a minimum time interval
per pixel to be shown. If you are showing a timespan of 100 years, using 100px,
then each pixel represents 1 year of time. Thus, if 1 book or 100 books were
published during that year, it won't matter as there will be a tick shown for
that year (pixel). You can load a smaller set of events to be used as the
eventSource for your overview band. If your server code supports it, you could
exclude the description, etc for this dataset, reducing the server load and the
time to send and process those events as well.

If you need further pointers, let me know.

[Simile-Widgets] Simile timeline

Is anyone available to assist me either via e-mail or phone?

[Simile-Widgets] Simile Timeline mouse-wheel scrolling

2010-07-20 Thread Hiraeth
I use the genealogy presentation program TNG ('The Next Generation of
Genealogy Sitebuilding') on my website. TNG offers the option of
displaying a person's timeline using the Simile Timeline Widget.
However, the implementation does not include mouse-wheel scrolling
(see example at
http://www.katiandgraham.com/genealogy/timeline2.php?primaryID=I28tree=kegctreechartwidth=900).
The TNG developer does not know why the mouse-wheel scrolling is not
available. Could someone please help with identifying what would be
necessary to enable this feature. I can post the relevant .php and .js
files if that would help.

[Simile-Widgets] Simile Timeline doesnt show up in IE at all (BoyScout Community Project)

2010-04-29 Thread Tobias

Hi!

We just lauched a community for boy scouts and girl guides in germany
that we have been working on voluntary for over a year. The Simile
timeline is the perfect fit for it since a personal timeline of all
your scouting-activity nicly visualized is just great and something
unique. Thanks a lot for Simile Timeline!

Unfortunatelly our timeline implimentation doesnt work in IE.

I hope someone can help us, here are some issues:

**Live Code:**
Go to http://stayscout.de/
Login with
tobias.jord...@googlemail.com
Passwort: simile
This is a account that I created for you for testing purpose.

On the dashboard you see the timeline as first element in Firefox
(Safari and Chrome) but not in IE.
We have no JS Issues in any of the other browsers but IE and the
problem is with IE 7 and IE 8.

**What we tried:**
- No CSS: We deleted all CSS and tested the timeline in IE 8 but the
error remains the same (looks fine in FF, doesnt show up in IE).
- No JS: We also deleted all JS but jQuery 1.4 -- same result

So it cannot be any CSS- or JS-Plugin-Issue

**JS-Error 1:**
This is the first error we get when calling the version that is online
right now:
Benutzer-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 5.1;
Trident/4.0; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR
3.0.4506.2152; .NET CLR 3.5.30729)
Zeitstempel: Thu, 29 Apr 2010 05:44:03 UTC

Error: unknown/nonvalid argument.
Zeile: 1581
Zeichen: 7
Code: 0
URI: http://10.211.55.2:3000/simile-timeline/timeline-bundle.js

The line that throws the error is if(A)
{this._highlightDiv.style.left=I+px;

By the way: The timeline-DIVs are there as far as I can tell but they
are not displayed and not functional.

**Change 1:**
We discovered a drupal-discussion that suggested adding a timeout
http://drupal.org/node/79472

So I changed our Timeline-Call to
  setTimeout(function() {
  timeline('#{dom_id}',#{data});
  }, 500);
Firefox: all fine
IE: Tells me there is an access-denied error in jquery.js. wtf?

**Change 2:**
So I removed the stayscout_app.js from the app.
Firefox: still fine
IE: no jquery error anymore

No to something more interesting:
**Change 3:**
I removed bandInfos[1].syncWith = 0; from our
www.stayscout.de/javascripts/simile-vita.js

FF: Shows timeline without band-sync
IE: Shows something for the first time but only the lower band. But I
can move that around.

But that is all I can do with that.

**Change 4:**
I added the bandinfo again and removed the bandInfos[1].highlight =
true;
FF: works fine
IE: Shows less than with change 3 but throws an error whenever I try
to move the gray-box (no band infos display)

Meldung: unknown/nonvalid argument
Zeile: 297, Zeichen: 35, Code: 0
URI: http://10.211.55.2:3000/simile-timeline/timeline-bundle.js

**Change 5: **
We did some more testing by adding alerts to the simile-vita-file to
see where the error is. From this test the problem should probably
come from timeline.layout(); -- but I am not shure about that and what
to make with it.

So I really hope someone can point us in the right directions here and
help us solve this problem!

Btw: We use json to get the timeline-data in the timeline. You find
the json-string in the header of the page with all the data.

Thanks and regards
Tobias

Re: [Simile-Widgets] Simile Timeline doesnt show up in IE at all (BoyScout Community Project)

2010-04-29 Thread Michael Nosal
Tobias,
It looks like your date format is causing problems in IE.
Date.parse(Thu Jul 01 00:00:00 +0200 2004) returns NaN in IE
Date.parse(Thu Jul 01 00:00:00 2004 +0200) returns 108923760
Firefox handles both fine.

Try changing the order of the year and timezone offset in your event dates and
see if that works correctly.
