[Skypeenglish] Saving the recieved file by Skype?

2014-12-20 Thread Octavian Rasnita via Skypeenglish

Hello,

I've seen that in the latest Skype version it is not possible to save the
received files anymore.
Is there a special trick that needs to be done in order to be able to do
this?

Thanks.

Thank you Andre,

I installed it, haven't tried the file save dialog yet, but if you say, then
it would probably work.
It is pretty annoying because it keeps saying "advertisement" when I open a
new chat window. Do you know if there a fix for it?

Probably I'll try to mute it by using the dictionary. :)

[Skypeenglish] GW Connect - was Re: Saving the recieved file by Skype?

2014-12-20 Thread Octavian Rasnita via Skypeenglish

Hi Doris,

I heard about GW Connect, but I have never used it. Does it offer some
advantages in comparison with using Skype directly?
I installed Skype 7 and it looks to be accessible, although I haven't tried
the file saving feature yet, but it is annoying because it keeps saying
"advertisement".

On the other hand, please tell me how are you, how's life, do you still have
problems with the apartment?

Thank you.

Re: [Skypeenglish] Saving the recieved file by Skype?

2014-12-21 Thread Octavian Rasnita via Skypeenglish

Hi Andre,

Microsoft doesn't offer the Skype Premium anymore.

I am wondering if just buying 5 EUR Skype credit will have the effect of
removing the adds.

Actually, unlike many sighted users, I am not interested in not seeing the
adds, but using a Skype version that doesn't have that "feature" at all.

I added a few MS hosts that provide the advertising in the hosts file to
block them, and I don't know what is displayed, but Skype still speaks
"advertisement".

Respected friend, are you user of facebook via Skype?
If not, then yes there is a fix for your issue of advertisement.
Open internet, go to tool/option/security tab. From there go to restricted
site.
Press tab key and type http://apps.skype.com/
Tab key to add button then tab tab key to o k button.
Restart your Skype your problem is resolve.
Remember one thing in that case you cannot use facebook news feed via
Skype.

Randy,
check out which scripts revision are you running. If it's 886, download
version 622a again from the scripts website, and install rev. 892. That
revision addressed a couple of cases where you can have that specific
issue.
Otherwise yes, ctrl+4 is a good way for going to the edit box, or if using
version 622a of the Skype scripts, you can also use ctrl+shift+e.

Hello guys,
this message is for those who are still experiencing problems with the new
scripts, and mostly with the extra ads interfering with the chats.
Try to go in Skype options, privacy settings, then press tab and if you
shortly find a button saying "Show advanced options", press the space bar
on it. Once you've done that, follow with tab and nearly on the bottom
there is an option saying: "Allow Microsoft targeted ads, including use of
Skype profile age and gender." If it's checked, try to uncheck it and see
what happens.

Re: [Skypeenglish] Skype 7.0, try that one and see what happens...

2015-01-02 Thread Octavian Rasnita via Skypeenglish
Yes, it just says that annoying "advertisement" when I open the chat window,
although not always.
In rest, the edit field works OK and gets the focus by default and the app
works fine so it is all right.

We will get used to hear that "advertisement" I guess. :)

Ok Octavian, thanks for your response...
It says advertisement and nothing more than this? And then it goes ok in
the chat edit box or what?
Note that for fixing some issues with chat edit box, you should upgrade
scripts to revision 892.

[Skypeenglish] Edit the last sent message

2015-01-31 Thread Octavian Rasnita via Skypeenglish

Hello,

A long time ago, when using Doug's scripts for Skype, I was able to press
the up arrow after I sent a message, and the text of that message was copied
in the edditing area, so I was able to edit it and press enter to resend it.
This way I was able to edit the last sent message.
I was able to do that for a short period of time. I've seen that I was able
to do the same thing when I used the default scripts for Skype which are
provided by FS.

Now if I press the up arrow, I hear just "unknown field".

Do you know how we can modify the last sent message if the up arrow doesn't
work for this?

Thanks

Thank you Kostadin,

The second way is acceptable, although it is strange that the first method
works only when the accessibility mode is disabled.
I tried to see if it appears the edit message menu item in my last message
in a closed chat, but it doesn't. So I'll try with another occasion in a
current chat... maybe it will work.

Hello Octavian,

There are I think at least 2 ways to do it.
1. Disable the accessibility mode of Skype from Tools -> Optioms ->
Accessibility. When this is disabled, pressing up arrow from the chat
entry edit field will copy your last sent message in that conversation in
the edit box for editing as before. But I don't recommend disabling
Skype's accessibility mode.
2. Move the focus to the chat content list, select the chat message that
you want to edit, press the "applications" key to invoke the context menu,
and from it choose "Edit message". That will copy the message in question
to the chat entry edit field from where you can edit and resend it.

Hello Octavian,

I've read in the Skype forums, that from some time now, you can edit only
messages that are no older than I think 30 minutes, but I may be wrong
about the exact time interval after witch you can't edit a message.

Great! Thank you.
I bought 5 EUR credit and I don't hear "advertisement" anymore (after I
restarted Skype).

I read on Skype page that a minute call cost 0.7 cents and I was curious to try
a call to phone by Skype, but I found that it costs ~ 22 cents, so much more
expensive than a simple phone to phone call. So I'll let the credit for
avoiding the advertising. :-)

If you are referring to the option

then it doesn't work because I had that option unchecked but I was still

The 5 euro donation for Microsoft solved it though. :-)

  Hi!

You don't need Skype credit to get rid of the ads in Skype.

Here's how to get rid of them in Skype 7.1 for Windows, without spending any
money or having to do anything very complicated. Go into the Tools menu in
Skype, then into Options, then arrow down to Privacy Settings. Then tab down to
the dialogue, and hit the Show Advanced Options button. In the new dialogue
this button opens, there is a checkbox saying something like Show Targeted Ads:
make sure this is unchecked.

I'm pretty sure these instructions work for earlier Windows Skype versions.

  I hope this helps!

Bye for now, and happy skyping!

  Hi!

I never hear any ads in Skype since I unchecked the Allow Targeted Ads
option, which is something I did several versions back.

It just occurred to me that maybe some screenreaders see the ads and others
don't. NVDA certainly doesn't see them since I unchecked the Allow Targeted Ads
checkbox, but maybe other screenreaders still pick up on the ads. Obviously,
you can use whatever screenreader you like, I'm just saying that might be
another reason why the ads still show up for you, as I know that sometimes one
screenreader reads things that others don't, and vice versa.

  Bye for now!

If you are referring to the option

"Allow Microsoft targeted ads, including use of Skype profile age and gender"

then it doesn't work because I had that option unchecked but I was still
hearing "advertisement" each time I opened a chat window.

The 5 euro donation for Microsoft solved it though. :-)

Hi!

You don't need Skype credit to get rid of the ads in Skype.

Here's how to get rid of them in Skype 7.1 for Windows, without spending
any money or having to do anything very complicated.

I also use Nod32 which is now called Esset Antivirus and it is the best. I
don't have any problems with it.
I also used Kaspersky and it was pretty good, but it eats more resources and
it started to have bigger accessibility problems.
I also used Norton Antivirus but it was a very poor antivirus and some viruses
caused me some problems.
I also used AVG but it used to crash a lot and considered some valid
applications which I made as containing viruses. (Problem solved by them after
a time though).
The company I bought the computer from said that Microsoft Security Essentials
is a poor antivirus and that even MS employees recommend using it only if the
user doesn't have a better antivirus.
This is what I know about the modern antiviruses.

I'm just putting this out there as a possible explanation for some of the
random nature of the Skype issues I have been reading about in recent weeks.
I see some of you having certain issues and others challenging them
responding back that others aren't having those issues so the answer is not
what someone else just shared here in the forum.
Here is what I just learned yesterday which has me wondering if we might not
be looking in the wrong place for answers.
I'm a JAWS user currently working with JAWS 16.
About two months ago I had many of the problems we have seen discussed here
in the group and many of you were kind enough to offer help and I was able to
go backward to a prior version of Skype and JAWS scripts and since that time
all has been well until recently.
Over the last few weeks Jaws has been acting weird with Skype and a few other
older applications that I have been using for years.
The problems in nature are intermittent and because of that have been
difficult to nail down for a definite cause.
Yesterday a high level JAWS tech user told me that recent upgrades in some of
the anti virus software could be the cause of some of our issues because of the
way screen readers work it sees a screen reader as a potential possible threat.
I'm currently using Avast and he did say that Avast is for sure on that list,
so now I need your help again.
What are you all using for virus protection that isn't messing up your screen
reader and that's also blind friendly to use?
Thanks for any and all help,

The latest, 6.22b, revision should work for all JAWS versions from 17 back
through the latest update to JAWS
11. There should be no reason to run 6.22a anymore. If there is, I should
like to know about it at least. :)

I just keep old versions around for a while in case I make a mistake, miss
a scenario out there that I can't

They're downloading the wrong version because they expect the last link on
the page to be the current update. I don't know why they would do this,
since the current script update is the first script mentioned on the page.
That's like expecting the beginning of a book to be on the last page of
the book.

[Skypeenglish] Skype dictionary

2016-05-15 Thread Octavian Rasnita via Skypeenglish
Hello,

For a long time I've seen a thing that I don't like in Skype and I want to
change it.
Each time I write some words in Skype chat, JAWS speaks something different.
For example if I write "tu", JAWS speaks "Thank you". If I write "cu", JAWS
speaks "SeeYou".

I don't write them in English, so they mean something different. This is why I
don't like these changes.

I went to Start menu/JAWS/Explore my settings directory and I searched there
with grep for "thank" but I couldn't find a JAWS script that contains this
word, so I don't know how JAWS reaches to speak "Thank you" instead of "cu"
only in Skype.
I use JAWS 16.

I did found a few scripts that contain the word "thank" but they were some .jss
scripts with some comments that contained that word.

The answer to that one is dependent on the file type.

Dictionary files (jdf), keyboard assignment files (jkm), graphics naming
files (jgf), and probably frames (jff
and jfd) are loaded from both places at once. Script files (jss) are not.
Script documentation files (jsd) may

be but I haven't proved it.

Re: [Skypeenglish] Call button disappeared

2016-11-24 Thread Octavian Rasnita via Skypeenglish
Hi Sarah,

Thank you for remembering me that some things can be corrupted. :-)

I reverted to the previous version and I've seen that it has the same problem.
Then I reverted to an even older version and it was the same issue.
So I renamed C:\Users\Octavian\AppData\Roaming\Skype to something else, then
Skype started to work fine.
I re-installed the latest version and now it is working well.

Actually, before I installed the latest version for the first time today, Skype
disconnected me and I got the message that somebody else has been connected to
my account.
I changed my password and re-logged-in, and immediately upgraded to the last
version, and then I saw the issue of missing call buttons, plus one more issue,
the fact that the last previous calls were not shown in the list that appears
when pressing Control+2.
So it looked that the local setting files were corrupted and I renamed the
Skype directory.

Now I'm thinking that probably that disconnect from my account, and the message
that somebody connected to my account, were issues that also appeared because
of that local file corruption. But who knows...

[Skypeenglish] Using Skype with bluetooth headphones

2017-05-26 Thread Octavian Rasnita via Skypeenglish
Hello,

My question is not exactly about using Skype or skype scripts, so sorry for
beeing a little off topic, but if someone have suggestions, they might be
useful for others also.

I am using the computer with wired headphones and it is OK for me, but when I
receive Skype calls that might be long enough, I would like to be able to plug
bluetooth headphones in computer and walk in my house while I'm talking. So
sometimes I would like to continue to use the wired headphones, and sometimes
to change to the bluetooth headphones.

Do you know if such a thing would be feasable?
I have never used bluetooth headphones until now and I am thinking that doing
this change of headphones might be complicated, that it might require changing
Skype's configuration to use a different microphone and a different audio
output each time I change the headphones.

I also understood that there are bluetooth adapters that have a 3.5 mm AUX
jack. I am thinking that if I'd just want to listen to music from computer with
bluetooth headphones, I would just need to plug an audio cable from that
bluetooth adapter to the computer's sound card and then connect the bluetooth
headphones to that adapter. This way, I'd continue to use the same sound card
and Skype should not be re-configured, and I would need just to plug a
different audio cable in the sound card, which would be much faster and easier.

The problem is that I don't need just to hear in the headphones, but also to be
able to speak in microphone, so the microphone should be also connected through
bluetooth somehow. It would be nice if there would be a bluetooth adapter that
would have 2 jacks, one for microphone and one for the headphones instead of a
single AUX jack, but I don't know if there is such a thing.

Do you know eventually if there is another way of changing rapidly from wired
to wireless headphones + microphone?

2017-05-27 Thread Octavian Rasnita via Skypeenglish
Hi Jim,

Thank you for your answer. I'm still confused though. :-)

The reason why I want to still use wired headphones when I work on computer is
that it is hard to find good and light wireless headphones.
So only for chatting on Skype the wireless and USB headphones may be OK, but
not for working the entire day.

>From what I read about the headphones you recommended, they are great for

>which is not really great.
But their main problem is that they are around the ear and very big and heavy
at 372g.
It is very hard to work all day with such headphones.

Bluetooth is definitely not the best way to handle this. Your best bet would
be to get a good wireless USB gaming headset. The charging station, will also
act, as a USB soundcard. Allowing you to send and receive audio wirelessly
between the headset and the computer. You will never need to be wired again.
Unless of course your headsets require recharging. They can recharge via USB
while you use them. I personally recommend the turtle beach elite 800. You can
use this headset both with your computer and any Bluetooth device you may wish
simultaneously. It even allows for multiple found sources. Hope that helps!

Hi Jessie. Welcome to this most informative list. The more members, the
greater chance our questions will be answered faster.

Now folks, I’m not the brightest bulb on the tree and I have heard the name
Blue Tooth, regarding telephones and radios and computers, but when I heard
someone say, the Logitech headset “ supports Blue Tooth”, everything I thought
I surmised, went out the window. Exactly what is Blue Tooth and what is it’s
relationship to a set of earphones? Wireless headphones? Does this mean, I
can be in the kitchen, sipping coffee and my lap top is in the bedroom, and I
can use my wireless keyboard and a wireless headset? That would save me a lot
of moving this and that, if it is true. Thanks, in advance for your attention,
dear people. Frank of another Paradise

2017-05-30 Thread Octavian Rasnita via Skypeenglish
Logitech H800 is a headset that can connect wireless to the laptop/phone/tablet
using Bluetooth. (By radio waves).

If your laptop has a bluetooth device built-in, those headsets should be able
to connect directly.
If it doesn't, you can use the Bluetooth adapter that comes with the headset.
That adapter is a small piece that connects to a USB port on your laptop.
And I read that the headset works better when connected through that adapter
instead of built in bluetooth device.

Don’t know what happened to my questions. I see my name in the previous
message, but none of what I said and asked is there. Let me try, again… I
take Portuguese lessons on Skype and often, I have to turn my volume up,
considerably, to overpower the noise from my air conditioner. I read about
this Blue Tooth thingy, in a previous message and a Logitech Wireless Headset,
I think. My question is, is the Logitech wireless, for sure? What is the
relationship of Blue Tooth and the Logitech Headset. I have a direct wire
headset, but I need have the lap top on my lap, to use it, rather than across
the room, where it is safe and won’t fall off the bed. A wireless Headset
would be the answer. Frank of Paradise PS Welcome Jessie!

OK, there are differences in our needs. Listening to music wireless would be
nice, but I primarily need them for Skype chatting. This is why I asked
about them on Skype mailing list. :)

Why would be helpful to connect the headphones with bluetooth and wireless
USB connection in the same time?

I would also like better sounding headphones for listening to music, but not
over-the-ear headphones, which are usually too heavy. Do you know if there
are good sounding headphones that are on-ear and lighter? Say... around
100grams?

The only disadvantage to these headset is that they cannot be used
wireless USB and Bluetooth simultaneously. This is a major problem if you
need to use both devices at once.
I also found that the battery life was insufficient for my needs. Any
headset you purchase today should not have less than 10 hours of battery
life. Preferably 16 to 24. These headsets also or Bluetooth three
compliant not Bluetooth for. This means for example you don't get a
battery indicator for how much battery is left on the device on the phone
itself. These headsets were designed for chatting. Therefore, listening to
music is not recommended with these headsets. They don't really sound
good. One thing I do like about them, is that they have a very nice boom
mic. Headsets manufactures today seem to think everyone wants integrated
Mike's. This is a problem for me due to how I have to wear my my headset
because of my hearing aids. The mic is never positioned in an optimal
location. These headsets will work well with Dragon 14 and 15. They will
also work adequately was Siri.

Good to know that. Today or tomorrow I might receive those headphones and I
will be able to test them.

A solution for the battery life is to buy 2 headsets instead of one. :-)
While using one of them, the second can be recharged.
The price for 2 such headsets is smaller than the price for a single Turtle
Beach headphone, so it should not be a problem.

Yeah, probably their sound quality is not as good as the one provided by a
$48000 Sennheiser headphone. :)

I find the H800 sounds quite nice for music actually. It does have a
tendency to emphasize some high frequency ranges a bit above normal I'd say
though, both on record and on playback. I believe its initial battery life
is near
eight hours; but of course, your mileage may vary and will likely decline
with headset age.

Once the

If using Doug's scripts, from within a chat window you can also press

Re: [Skypeenglish] Previous pages in Skype chat

2017-06-01 Thread Octavian Rasnita via Skypeenglish
I've checked a Skype chat window after pressing Control+1 twice quickly and
I read on the top:

"Conversation messages 1 to 80 of 80".

Then I pressed Escape to close the virtual window, pressed Control+5 to move
to the list of messages, then pressed the Home key for a few times.
Then I pressed Insert+Tab, and JAWS told me that the list contains 160
messages. Yesterday I pressed Home for very many times in that list and this
displayed more than 5000 messages there. And there are much more than that
for sure.

The JAWS scripts can see that there are only 80 messages in total, and this
is why it doesn't display the links to previous messages.
Maybe there are too many messages and JAWS can't deal with such big numbers.

Yikes that is way out of my budget! Maybe I'll just go with th Logitech
Keys-To-Go if it is still being made, the trick is knowing which model
to get of that keyboard because last I heard there are two models, one
for windows and Android and another for iOS.

I believe this relates to skype in that I would have to type messages
into the skype chat window of conversations easily with a keyboard than
the way I'm currently doing it right now without my preferred way of
typing, that being my beloved braille display.

Thanks Doc but that one is too pricy on Amazon and Fry's electronics and
Best Buy. Shrug!

Keep in touch,

Chela

Hello I just tested the app version out with NVDA and it reads
like what JAWS reads, again, the app store version which still
works relatively well with screen readers to an extent still has
quirks but still is manageable whereas the desktop version which
we all are used to, stopped working for me on both laptops I own
running Windows 10 latest vuild, think it is the creator update
one. I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 when it first came
out. I have two HP laptops: the HPG72 and the HP Probook 6570B
models.

It will all take some getting used to that is for sure.

On an unrelated note, can anyone recommend either a foldable or a
small bluetooth keyboard for use with iOS devices running the
latest iOS update? I own an iPod Touch 5th generation and an
iPhone 5s.

I'll be looking to either buy a bluetooth keyboard from either
Best Buy or Fry's Electronics or Amazon in the USA. The reason why
I'm asking is that I normally use my braille display but it is our
of commission right now and I need something to help me type fast
comfortably. The screen is my friend up until I start typing. LOL!

Thanks for any recommendations. Even trifoldable keyboards would
work for me as well. One requirement is that I would need keys to

Re: [Skypeenglish] Using Skype with bluetooth headphones

2017-07-04 Thread Octavian Rasnita via Skypeenglish

I bought the Logitech H800 Bluetooth headset and it works OK with Skype.
Here is a short review + a question:

Its earcups are bigger than I prefer, but they are on-ear, not over-the-ear,
so they are OK.
It has a switch with 3 positions for turning it off, for connecting it using
the standard bluetooth of the laptop or mobile phone, or for connecting it
with its own Bluetooth adapter (USB dongle).

Using the USB dongle is very easy.
I configured Skype so this headset is the first in list for both the
headphones and microphone, and the second in list is the headset/microphone
connected to the sound card. This way, if I listen/speak using the wired
headphones and I want to go wireless, I just switch the bluetooth headphones
on, and insert the USB dongle in a USB port on laptop. In a few seconds it
switches to the bluetooth headphones and I can start walking when talking on
Skype.
If the USB dongle for the bluetooth headphones is connected using an USB hub
that has an on/off button, switching to this headset can be done by just
pushing that button, without needing to insert or remove the USB dongle.

The sound of these headphones is OK, although it is not great. Probably it
also matters that they are connected by bluetooth.
The right earcup has 4 buttons, for volume up, volume down, mute/unmute the
microphone and start/pause.
It also has a kind of switch that can be used for jumping to the previous or
next track when listening to music, or for rewind/fast forward.
If the last media player program used was Winamp, even if it was closed,
pressing the start button opens Winamp and starts playing. But these
headphones cannot control Winamp further.
It can control Windows Media Player and I read that it can also control
iTunes.
If Windows Media Player is opened, it can be controlled by pressing the
stop/pause/next track/previous track/fast forward/rewind buttons.
If Media Player was used but it was closed, the headphones can also controll
it in the same way, but the Windows Media Player window is not opened.

The left earcup can be pressed and rotated it and it reveals the battery,
which can be changed, plus a location where the USB dongle can be stored
when not used (for not losing it).

These headphones are pliable so they are a little bit easier to carry.
The earcups are covered by spunge.

There are 2 things I don't like at these headphones.
First, their manufacturers say that they can be used at a distance of 10 or
12 meters(30 feet), but this may be tru only when there are no walls between
them and the bluetooth adapter.
After 5 - 6 meters (15 - 20 feet) they start breaking the sound or not
working at all if there are walls.
The second thing is that they are not really supporting Skype, because if
somebody calls me by Skype, I can't answer the call using its buttons. Or if
I want to close the current Skype call, I can't do it remotely, but I need
to do it from the computer.

I read that there are headphones that oficially supports Skype, but the
problem is that all the web sites just display images with the headphones,
so it is impossible to find which of them are good.

Do you know some headphones that support Skype and can be used at a longer
distance? I read that there are headphones that can be used at 100 meters
(more than 300 feet).

Subject: [Skypeenglish] JAWS Shuts Down When I First Run SoundForge11Pro

Hello!

I have installed SoundForge11Pro and the two accompanying programs that
come
with it on my Windows 10 computer. When I click on SoundForge11Pro, JAWS
is
shut down and cannot be restarted until after I run Narrator to regain
sound

on the computer; then I can restart JAWS with its shortcut combo of
Alt-CTRL+J; then I can close Narrator; and the program works properly
then.

Can anyone explain to me why this occurs so I can fix this problem and use
SoundForge11Properly? Has anyone else experienced a similar problem with
SoundForge11Pro causing JAWS to shut down or with anyother program doing
this? Come to think of it, this also happened with OtsAvRadio when I
first

installed it, but it eventually stopped doing it, but I never discovered
what caused the program to cause this problem with JAWS. I am using the
latest version of JAWS 18. I have uninstalled and reinstalled
SoundForge11Pro and all of its components, which installed properly and
run

as it should when used, except for the shutting down of JAWS18 initially
when I run it.

Sincerely,

James Robinson
