Eric Mootz e...@mootzoid.com schrieb am Tue Oct 28 2014 at 11:29:51 AM: Hey guys, Just wanted to announce the official release of emPolygonizer5. I copy/pasted the newsletter below. Cheers! Eric Mootzoid is pleased to announce the release of *emPolygonizer5* (version 5.1). Aside from new features and many improvements this new version is not only available for *Softimage*, but also for *Maya*, *MODO*, *Fabric Engine* and as a *command line tool* = pick your poison! The plugin was heavily tested during the last few weeks to eliminate any last bugs and to make sure it can handle dozens of millions of particles on a normal workstation and so on. In short: to ensure it is a solid and reliable tool for production! The resulting renderings were put together in a four minute long release video called Wild at Mesh, see link below. The *Softimage*, the *Maya *and the *command line* versions are 100% finished, the *Fabric Engine* version as well as the *MODO* version will be available shortly (in a couple of weeks, tops) as there are still a few last little things to polish. Wild at Mesh (release video ): https://vimeo.com/109935003 emPolygonizer5 web page: http://www.mootzoid.com/plugin/empolygonizer5 Upgrade / Order: http://www.mootzoid.com/order Hope this new version will be fun to work with and helpful in production! Should you have questions regarding emPolygonizer5 don't hesitate to write me an email! Take care, Eric PS (*MODO*): one can already download the beta version and test it. There will be a video tutorial available in a couple of days that will demonstrate how to use the beta.

Ah, sorry Eric. I did something wrong. It now loads perfectly in 801 as well. There are some refresh quirks, I have to reset render very often and I can't apply normal maps on emReader materials (also in 701). Are these limitations of the Modo SDK? Apart from that, emReader for Modo is another great way to enhance the cooperation of Softimage and our new favourite new Software and to get rid of the Autodesk leash. Re: softimage to modo
The schematic in Modo is becoming more and more powerful. But with great power comes great responsibility! What I mean is, that it's equally important to have tools to cleanup and organize your node graphs as it is to add more features / nodes. What I currently miss most is something like a group comment in ICE or backdrop in Nuke. As well as sticky notes and comments. Tools to easily align / sort multiple nodes at once, tools to get rid of unused nodes etc. But I have high hopes that the Modo dev team gets a hint from the Nuke dev team to help them sort it out. ;) Apart from that I'm already positively shocked by what the schematic can already do. Sometimes it really feels like using the SI Render Tree and ICE Tree in one single tree, where all kinds of nodes can talk to each other. I just discovered that procedural noise textures (and there are a lot of them in Modo) can be used to texture deformers / falloffs. Or take a look here: geometry lookups can directly control shader attributes: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzBIO4PPUuInU1RmTEw5OWdYNGc/preview?pli=1 Something I wished for in Softimage for a long time. 2014-05-07 20:10 GMT+02:00 Sergio Mucino sergio.muc...@gmail.com: I just discovered the other day that the Edge Bevel tool has some crazy preset profile shapes. And whilst talking about recent discoveries: I found that the modeling falloffs (and there are plenty of them, most with artist-friendly visual feedback) are working with all possible tools. This means you can e.g. first define a falloff along edges and then use the bevel tool to get a bevel with variable radius. Or you can use the Edge Weight Tool (for creating crease weights for Pixar SubDs) in combination with falloffs to create creases that slowly fade from hard to soft. Amazing. Especially if you can adjust both, the tool properties AND the falloffs interactively as long as the tool hasn't been dropped. Yes, we have. And we're digging it more and more each day. My hint would be: Watch tutorials first! Especially about the shader tree, decoupled shading, the principle of items and the way you can copypaste polys, edges, vertices etc. in and out of them and the tool pipeline stuff. Don't open up Modo and start clicking around. You will likely be disturbed and disappointed, because many things work differently. We'll jump on the Modo train (at least partly as long as Softimage still runs on current hardware). Re: Who has switched to Vray and loves it?
There are _a lot_ more buttons in Vray than in Arnold! ;) The combination of GI algorithms ( primary / secondary) alone is intimidating. The funny thing in Arnold is that the result most of the time converges to the same image, only the rendertime varies if you e.g. shoot rays that you don't actually need to sample or have useless diffuse rays bounce inside your glass objects. Optimizing Arnold scenes can be a time consuming process as well, but it's not mandatory to get a result. It's only mandatory if you need a result in time. ;) I remember the not so good old mental ray times where optimizing scenes made the difference between a rendered image and a crashing renderfarm. But on the other hand I kind of masochistically liked the challenge of pushing the right buttons. Cheers Steffen 2012/6/21 olivier jeannel olivier.jean...@noos.fr Well, I easily found some videos showing click here, enter this value for Vray. Interestingly Chinny didn't say that he works on Maya now but instead on something new. Cheers Steffen P.S.: It's just my wish that so much Softimage talent and passion doesn't get sucked up completely by the evil Mayans! ;) -- PGP-ID(RSA): 0xCCE2E989 / 0xE045734C CCE2E989 Fingerprint: 394B 3DA9 9A9A 96C6 3A5A 0595 EF92 EE1F
