Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS and Apple M1 Mac
Is there any plan to bring out LMS version that will run natively on M1 Big Sur ? What is the rough time schedule ? No plan so far. As Apple had announced the end of scripting on macOS a while back, I was actually surprised to see Perl was still there on these new machines... The pref pane probably would need a full rewrite to make it compile for M1. It's just a lot of work for not too many users. Getting native support certainly isn't a priority, I'm sorry to say. I just got new M1 Mac Mini and now I have to figure out which version of LMS should I install ... I would prefer to wait for a stable LMS version Go with 8.1. I wanted to declare it stable and release earlier this month, but there's always one more thing :-). which is natively running on M1 than to install version that runs on emulation. The question is though: how long will I have to wait > (roughly) ? I think we're in good company, using the emulation. -- Michael ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

I've seen this on one of my booms a few times but not for at least a year. All local music on a fast HD and reasonably fast linux box running LMS. PiCorePlayer+RPI4+LMS database / library running from HDD/SSD. (So safe away from SD card). Better than my Synology NAS better than my WHS2011 NAS! better than my Windows 10. I happen to run a home automation system on my LMS host as well though and have seen many issues raised on that system's users forum that were related to SD card failure on Pis. The ones that were lucky (in some sense) reported that recorded information would get lost between reboots, but others would simply loose everything on account of database corruption. As said, Samsung cards are mentioned to have the highest rate of failure in this type of usage. Really the only thing I can advice in this matter is to make backups. gordonb3's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=71050 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113492 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

About the "autostart": just tell LMS *not* to autostart and then put a plain text file named *Squeezebox.plist* in -~/Library/LaunchAgents - (create folder if it doesn't exist) with this content (replace YOURSHORTUSERNAME): Code: Label Squeezebox RunAtLoad Program /Library/PreferencePanes/Squeezebox.prefPane/Contents/server/slimserver.pl ProgramArguments /Library/PreferencePanes/Squeezebox.prefPane/Contents/server/slimserver.pl --nomysqueezebox WorkingDirectory /Library/PreferencePanes/Squeezebox.prefPane/Contents/server Works for me (7.9 on 10.15). Note: the ---nomysqueezebox - flag tells LMS to start with the mysqueezebox.com or mysb.com services disabled. If you're running a Windows machine for other purposes, I'm sure you can likely make LMS run just fine. However, if you just want a simple LMS box, small, low power consumption, incredibly reliable, regularly community maintained etc., then I'm not why you'd look past running LMS on picoreplayer. The core team is brilliant, the hardware costs next to nothing and everything just works. I've got 7 Pi's running pcp, one of those running my LMS and also serving a Boom and a Transporter. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Throwing in towel on LMS on Mac OS. Does it run OK on Windows 10 or is Linux better?
gordonb3, I typically schedule a full rescan each night at 2am. Is this not advised? Also, which SD cards are considered best when they are the primary "partition" for an operating system and a running server (like piCorePlayer and LMS)? I haven't changed that SD card in a LONG time (since it had to shift from 4Gb to 8Gb). As I said, it's stable for many weeks. Then one morning I'll get up and LMS no longer responds. Go to piCorePlayer UI and check and there's the DB error again. I just checked the forum and I see no post I made about DB issues, so I think I may have put it on the Developer Site as a bug. LMS runs just fine on win10. If you have a machine that's on all the time anyway why add something else to maintain. As to the windows updates, you can specify what time of day the machine will restart an you can set LMS to auto start either when the machine starts or initial logon (I prefer the machine start which implements LMS as a service). If you haven't used Win10 before, I find the automatic updates which reboots the PC at strange or inconvenient times may not be the best chocie for a 24/7 LMS server. A Pi4 based system gives good performance, easy to update and also easy to leave alone for months at a time until you have to update usually due to an external change. Plex will also run on Pi - don't know about performance concerns when both LMS & Plex are running. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113492 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Yup, everything will be dependent on the speed of your LMS media. Try running h4testw (or similar) against the old drive, out of interest. It might just be slower, or it might be more fundamentally broken. A decent USB 3 drive on the Pi 4 runs like a rocket. I had zero issues when I was running on a Win10 machine. It just worked. But I now prefer a rPi4B, with attached USB drive, running piCorePlayer. Entire setup is smaller than a paperback book, can be located next to your router, and run 24/7 with essentially zero intervention. I set one up for my brother a year ago (rPi3B+) and he's had zero issuesuses it daily and I'm not sure he even realizes where it is (in a cabinet attached to his router). See: https://docs.picoreplayer.org/how-to/ I know nothing about Linux, etc. But I can follow specific instructions. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Throwing in towel on LMS on Mac OS. Does it run OK on Windows 10 or is Linux better?
Osamede, Check out using a Raspberry Pi and piCorePlayer (google both). I have two. One in my bedroom as a headless player (output via 1/8" jack to speaker) and a second in my living room that is both player (output via digital out to stereo, HiFiBerry Digi+ addon card, google HiFiBerry for that) and server, connected to my XyZel NAS where the files are. HiFiBerry sell complete systems, including case/power supply. They are very compact so no need to find room for a desktop tower, etc. It is stable for months at a time (though there are times, like this very morning, where I have to delete LMS prefs/cache and rebuild the library after unrecoverable LMS DB errors that no one on this Forum can help with). There are a lot of people who have moved in this direction as their aging SqueezeBox hardware died (as I did when my SqueezeBox Classic stopped working). [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Updating LMS package on Synology to v 8.0? Is it safe?
Since Synology, unfortunately, stopped their support for the Logitech Media Server on their NAS (like my DS218+), I'm considering to upgrade the package to the version found here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/lmsupdate/files/DSM6.x/ But I'm hesitant to upload this package: how can I roll back to the existing package is anything fails? I see no option to backup / export the original 7.9.2.package (Hyper Backup backup the data folders, application but not the packages?). Since Synology removed the package from the Beta section I will probably not be able to install it again... So I have two questions: - is it safe to simply upload the 8.0.0 x86_64 package to the Synology NAS; will it overwrite the existing package or create a new one? - what's the best way to 'roll-back' (is there a way to export or backup a single package)? (minor detail, duh.. :-) ) I need two mappings, one to the /Volume1/Music (shared folder with the music files), and another to /Volume1/homes/[myname]/Drive/New Music (where I store all the incoming files that are not yet moved to music). The /media folder is visible in the settings page, but it does not seem to find any music in the subdirectories. So the database remains empty. Has anyone managed to get the docker container, successfully running? If so, any tips on configuring the music folder? _•_Nope,_we_didn't_fix_ReadyNAS._At_all._ Scared that the tweak that made it work on the previous version was taken out... The "fix" and above comment were only related to really old ReadyNAS devices, running Raidiator v4 or similar. They were still running Perl 5.8. I did not upgrade to the next proposed nightly 8.0.1 - 1607593012 because I was a bit scared by the Release Note _below_: 2020-12-04 Fix regex to match the client's user agent string. We must NOT match "jivelite". Success :):) ronnie It appears that something went wrong in the "make" proccess. 32609 +---+ |Filename: openssl update.txt | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=32609| +---+ Man in a van's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=43627 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113474 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Odd bug? Playlist display one behind on playing song (8.0.0)
Odd bug, as I'm currently unable to reproduce it, but maybe it rings some bells with someone. It's something we've seen reported before. But I've never been able to reproduce. I think some assumptions were around either online music services (failed to load a track), or a disk which took too long to respond before LMS thought something was wrong. So: are you using any online music service? Are online tracks part of the playlist when this happens? Or are you using a (slow) external disk on a relatively slow server? -- Michael ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

I had the LMS folder on an USB stick and now I changed this stick. The old one allowed only 100MB/s read and 30MB/s write and the new one allowes 300 MB/s read and 100 MB/s write. The scan of the whole library is much faster now and I have no slowing down any more. Also the display of the artists is much faster now in Material skin. So I think the strange slowliness has something to do with the old stick. pi4 4gb picoreplayer with lms and squeezelite for usb pi3b+ (7\" display, hifiberry dac+ pro) picoreplayer with squeezlite/jivelite for hifiberry and bluetooth headphone two airport express ikea symfonisk carsten_h's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=69113 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113282 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Odd bug? Playlist display one behind on playing song (8.0.0)
Odd bug, as I'm currently unable to reproduce it, but maybe it rings some bells with someone. Last night I used the search function to locate Christmas songs (it's the season) in my library and hit `play`. Scanning the list of mostly pretty horrible songs I started adding more songs and then when the Touch started playing the next song I noticed that the display still showed the first song from the list. Some kind of freeze maybe? But then when it started playing the third song the display switched to showing the second song from the list. It seems like two different counters are used, where one is 0-based and the other 1-based. gordonb3's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=71050 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113482 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
