Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Install Logitech Media Centre on Synology NAS

2022-02-16 Thread Michael Herger

Given the number of current threads concerning Synology NAS would it be
an idea to post a “sticky” post outlining the current situation and user
options - Pi, Docker etc?

Definitely. I at some point started collecting screenshots and info for
the Docker case. But then somebody else posted the instructions already.
And now I can't find that posting any more :-).

PS Apart from you is there anyone else who can sticky a post?

Don't know. But I can make things stick.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] RPi/Picoreplayer IP question

2022-02-16 Thread Michael Herger

If I use a VPN on my PC that holds the LMS server, is that the IP that
Tidal will see when I stream via my RPi?

Reason for asking is my Tidal account was created in another country and
I'd prefer not to relocate it to UK and have to pay a great deal more.

This doesn't really matter AFAIK. I've always been using them with
accounts from various countries (Norway, Poland, US) to test the
integration. I don't think they enforce any kind of geo blocking.

Have you encountered any issue due to your using an account from a
different country?

If you use a VPN then what Tidal will see is the IP of the VPN server
you connect to.
If you were to connect to a VPN server in USA for example then Tidal
would see a USA registered IP - that’s the whole point of this sort of
VPN

Solution was described above.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] NAS Disk Mount error......media folders empty

2022-02-16 Thread brewie

OK; I think I found the issue:
I have recently changed my NAS password to a more complex password by
using special characters.
Looking in the boot record I found that it took the last few characters
of my password into the "options " field ;
xxx,uid=1001,gid=50,vers=3.0
To be able to use special characters in this field you have to install a
special extension: cifs-utils.tcz
After I installed this extension a reboot went flawless and had no disk
mount failure anymore.
I'll check if this worked with the next "nightly". But I think this was
the problem.
So far: thx for all the help.

The generally accepted recommendation for a device running LMS is to
have it wired with a static or reserved IP. It is technically possible
to run it on WiFi but perhaps not with a network mount such as this.
Are you able to connect by Ethernet with a static or reserved IP and

The installer (-dpkg-) will only install/update/delete files/folders
that it knows about. If there are other files/folders present in the LMS
hierarchies, they will be left alone. Someone Else put them there, so
Someone Else should look after them.

Had you removed the existing LMS before installing the new version,
-dpkg- would have warned you that some folders could not be removed or
something along those lines. (Because they still contain extraneous
stuff). That might have triggered your attention. Perhaps that's the way
to go when you next update.

This doesn't make sense.
I have a number of pCP/LMS installs that connect to a NAS albeit a QNAP
- they all work perfectly and the mount is always there as long as the
NAS is up when the pCP boots.
Could it be that you have set your NAS to sleep if not required - I
don't know whether that is possible with Synology or not.

Did another update today... same issue again. NAS mount was lost.
I changed the Vers from 3.0 to 2.0 (just to do a change), remonted the
disk succesfully and everything was working fine again.
So by now I would say I can repeat this failure over and over again.
The remounting of the NAS is not automatically happening after an
update; at least not in my config.

and in any case I think Tidal will see your external IP address - the
one assigned by your ISP - rather than your internal 192.x.x.x or
10.x.x.x.

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] RPi/Picoreplayer IP question

2022-02-16 Thread Poldark69

Just a simple question (I think).

I have LMS server on my Study PC and access it from a RPi3B with digi
hat, loaded with Picoreplayer.

If I use the Tidal plug-in, which IP address will Tidal see, the RPi or
the server PC's?

Thanks

Ideally rpi4. I think you need at least 1gb of RAM

3x Squeezebox Touch, 4x Squeezebox Radio, Squeezelite (RPi 3B with
HiFiBerry DAC+Pro on OSMC), Material Skin Apk, Squeeze Commander,
Logitech Media Server Version: 8.2.0 with Material Skin (Docker in
DS218+)

I'm listening (headphones) to LMS on a rpi 1 model b+ :p

It's just the configuration process that is slow on the older rpi :)

I do have a couple or so spare

Also French store with stock of 2gb version doesn't even have English
site version so I doubt they ship to UK :)

Although rpi4 is definitely recommended I doubt rpi3 will be slower then
you DS214play.

But yeah £200 rpi4 is bonkers.. it would make more sense getting new NAS
capable of running docker and keeping ds214play as purely backup for new

Michael-

The next step I took was to delete LMS from the system preference pane
on the iMac and do a complete reinstall. That appears to have worked.
Thank you for your help.

Hi Paul

You said in your first post that you have a couple of rpi, just pop LMS
on one of those :)

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Install Logitech Media Centre on Synology NAS

2022-02-16 Thread Whitedb

Hi, I wonder if you can help me. I have been happily running LMS
8.1.1-1610364020 (pinkdot) on my Synology DS214play under DSM
6.2.4-25556 Update 3. I avoided the Pearl update so it continued to
work.

Unfortunately after I added a new plugin, ShairTunes2 (fork), it crashed
and would not restart. I SSH'd into the NAS and browsed the LMS plugin
folder but could not find it to remove so I uninstalled LMS.

Docker is not a solution for the 214play but fortunately I had saved the
LMS installer and had version
"LogitechMediaServer-i686-8.1.1-1610364019.spk". I tried to manually
re-install it but I got an error message that it was not compatible. I
also had version "LogitechMediaServer-i686-8.0.0-1605892076.spk" and
tried that and it installed and runs fine. I wonder if Synology have put
something in the DSM updates to prevent installation as it was
previously on a slightly lower version when I last updated.

So my questions:
1. What is the latest version of LMS that will run on DSM6.2.4 and where
might I be able to get it?
2. Secondly, are there anything tricks I can do to get the 8.1.1
installer I have to run anyway?
