Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS on Raspberry Pi4
Hi, most imprtant thing to do is update firmware when your Raspi arrives. Mine was delivered 1 month ago and came with old firmware. Temperature whilst idle was 74ºC (at 80ºC CPU starts throttling down). After updating firmware temperature dropped to 62-64ºC in idle state. Be careful not to confuse kernel update with firmware update, I've seen many posters in forums updating the Kernel and complaining about problems afterwards when only firmware update is needed for this. This is what I did in my Pi 4 with Max2Play 2.52: I followed the instructions from http://www.geeks3d.com/20191101/raspberry-pi-4-new-firmware-reduces-power-consumption-and-boards-temperatures/: $ sudo apt update $ sudo apt upgrade $ sudo apt install rpi-eeprom Now, run the following command to check the status of the bootloader + VL805 code: $ sudo rpi-eeprom-update And finally reboot Dont run "apt dist-upgrade" or "apt full-upgrade" since they will upgrade important components like the kernel and may cause your Pi not to work depending on the software installed. waldo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=19888 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110838 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

I'm running LMS and some other server applications on a PI4 in a standard case, just with a simple heatsink on the processor. pi@helix:~ $ vcgencmd measure_temp temp=58.0'C So on that basis I don't think there's an issue. Bear in mind that all your tracks need to be fingerprinted by MusicIP and it is recommended to do this on a PC and not on the Pi. The same version of MusicIP should be installed on the machine used for fingerprinting as on the Pi. It might be worth trying to fingerprint some tracks before doing anything else. slartibartfast's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=35609 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110838 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

slartibartfast wrote: > Is there a step by step guide to install LMS on Raspbian Desktop on a Pi > 4? > > Sent from my Pixel 3a using Tapatalk Not that I know of. I just use my own cobbled together method :) I have a small music library, it all fits on a 64gb card. I use the 'Desktop version' (https://downloads.raspberrypi.org/raspbian_latest) because it has a VNC server which lets me remote in from my Windows 10 Desktop. it also has a SD card copy function which reduces the size of the file. I found a "how to" install Samba on the web and it works pretty well (or it did until a Windows Update stopped the automatic connection. There is a workaround for that but it broke again after another update . I just connect from the Win10 with a click on the shared drive now sigh). I also run a Spotify-Connect client from a "how to" by pinkdot which I got from the Moode Audio thread on DIY-Audio forum. It's basicallly the same as mhergers but without the podcast thing. I have another version with LMS, Squeezelite, Spotify -Connect and a Jivelite install which is configured to start playing fip when it is fired up. I keep meaning to do a MPD player with UpNP stuff but I think some of that is not so easy. There is a bit of work, but practice makes perfect, sometimes it's just a question of trial and error. Running just LMS should be easy enough (there is a Raspbian Lite for headless operation). What sort of Hard drive are your music libraries on? ronnie Man in a van's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=43627 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110838 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS on Raspberry Pi4
I use Max2play software for my LMS on Raspberry Pi and have used this for about five years upgrading the Pi as a new quicker version came out. I have been using the Pi 4 4GB since it came out and the Max2play beta download was available. I only use this Pi as a pure LMS server with a 2 TB USB HD attached with my library . I also purchased a Flirc case and this has reduced the operating temperature to around 42/43 deg which i feel is fine. Pi 4 is smoother , faster and in my view more stable that the Pi3 + . A full scan does take around three minutes overall quicker than before but once this has done then upgrades to the LMS version , searches and instructions for next track etc are much quicker and smoother. I feel the Rpi 4 is a huge upgrade and offers response and feel that is in line with many expensive purpose built (and expensive) streamers / network players. I would reccomend an upgrade to Rpi 4 . I am sure there are people out there who can use the added RAM to give other advantages but as this is beyond my talents I will wait and then keep an eye on developments. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS on Raspberry Pi4
I have been running a Pi4 w/4G of RAM in the new Flirc case as a Max2play LMS for approx. 24 hrs. So far so good, initial music scan (from remote mounted file system on co-located NAS) took about 82 minutes for 90K songs. On the Pi3 the scan I believe was around 4 hours. Temperature has been hovering around 40-44C sitting in a communications rack in my basement with an ambient room temp of 20C. Earlier it was in my office upstairs and during the music scan I seen temps in the range of 50C with an ambient room temp likely around 24C. I have a Pi3 in a stock Pi plastic case with a small heat sink on the CPU sitting next to the Pi4 in the com rack and it is also showing temps around 43C. As expected, everything is "snappy" . I will sync 5 or 6 squeezebox's later and see if that creates any type of load on the little guy. Over all very impressed. I will brun it in for a week or two, and if everythting gores well I will repurpose the Pi3 LMS for something else. sfraser 2 CHAN. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS on Raspberry Pi4
Hi Guys Sorry for the confusion I may have caused with my earlier post. Just to be clear, the Geekworm case I purchased was designed for the Pi4 and fits like a glove with all ports being accessable. It also seems to significantly reduce the idle temperature of my Pi4. They also make a version with a fan which will probably be even more effective if you don't mind the slight noise pollution. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS on Raspberry Pi4
Morning All Ive just discovered this thread so I thought Id chime in with my Pi4/LMS experience. I have been running LMS (Max2Play) on a Pi3 for a about 18 months and its worked very well. The music is stored on a Nas and I regularly use the Spotty and iPlayer plugins. Id say that there were sometimes small delays when browsing through my music collection but never anything to worry about. However, when the Pi4 was released temptation got the better of me so I went ahead and purchased the 4gb version. I loaded up Max2Play (v2.5 beta) and away it went although this time feeling a good deal quicker than before. I havent carried out any specific measurements but Id say the scanning isnt much quicker than with the Pi3 which I guess is a limitation of the Nas arrangement I have. The day to day browsing is quicker though. Im not sure whether the extra memory (4gb) is making a big difference or not, I have tweaked the Database Memory Config in the Performance tab of LMS so perhaps the extra capacity is being used? I store my Pi4 in a smallish cupboard which also houses my Nas, a network switch and also my broadband fibre modem. This creates a fairly warm environment for the Pi4. Initially I didnt buy any kind of case and opted to see how it operated naked. Running purely as an LMS server it showed a temperature of around 62c at idle. This number was taken from the Max2Play settings/reboot screen so I assume it to be accurate. This seemed a bit high for my liking so I looked around for a case without a fan as I didnt want to create any more noise. I settled on this cheapo case . 27939 Which is availible 'here' (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32962800319.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.66147dd3MCC4rT_pvid=df0b32f6-50ad-4c05-a5cc-90b1aaf7cfd8_expid=df0b32f6-50ad-4c05-a5cc-90b1aaf7cfd8-1=1fba5b47-262d-483e-89ba-e23a3711d987_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_1,searchweb201603_52http://) It is also available on Amazon but I opted to import it from China (I think) for about £10. Its been successful as the Pi4 now idles at about 48c. So all in all Id say my Pi4 experience has been positive. I should stress that there was no real need to upgrade from the Pi3 as it was working perfectly but thats not really the point Im wondering now how much better it would/could perform if I attach my music files directly to the USB port Cheers Ashley +---+ |Filename: geekworm2.jpg| |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=27939| +---+ acanning's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13303 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110838 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

With a Pi4 and files on a NAS mounted by NFS the scan time is appreciably quicker than a Pi3 in similar mode. This is with the db on the Pi not on the NAS. That said a Pi4 is not as quick as an old HP Microserver with SSD for the OS and db but files on the NAs via NFS. Its the SSD which stores the db that makes most difference. In view of the heat dissipation, maybe I should consider a Pi3 instead. I think this should give a substantial improvement over a Pi2? gustavm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=66840 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110838 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

The only drawback at the moment is the heat. Static pi runs at 60C or so and this increases with work load. A naked pi should have no problem with LMS and Squeezelite, unlikely to throttle I would think. There a cases (flicr being one and others being developed) and fans. I have a Pimoroni shim-fan which is a bit temperamental with it's bloody led light but works well. There is a script for raspbian, but used with pCP, it just runs all the time, baby! like a battery rabbit :) I mostly use the Raspbian desktop and last week built a Spotify-Connect client on the pi using librespot. At times the cpu was showing 100% use but the tem never went above 65C thanks to the fan. It's good fun :p ronnie Man in a van's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=43627 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110838 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS on Raspberry Pi4
Hi I have been running LMS on a Pi2 for a number of years. Has worked reliably but quite slow to update after adding new FLAC files, and sometimes not quite as responsive as I'd like. I had been thinking of changing to a Pi3, but now that the Pi4 is available was wondering about that. Should it just work fine on that with most recent LMS version, or are there any differences I need to take note of? I'm not very Linux savvy, in the past have just followed the various instruction threads. Thanks in advance for any advice... gustavm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=66840 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110838 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
