Oh, many ways:

- service logitechmediaserver stop (or whatever the standard way of your 
distribution)


- kill the task by its ID

- telnet yourserver 9090, then "stopserver"

Then remove the mysb credentials from the server.prefs file and restart

I'm more than happy to do that. I have one issue though : if it fails
again, I no longer have a return path after I had to give up on the
lobotomized export/import function of Container Station (QNAP). This
means that I have to reinstall LMS all the way from scratch each time it
fails, including rescanning the whole library. This takes a lot of time.

Do you know of any other way to make snapshot backups of containers?

I just pushed a change which tries to prevent parallel login attempts 
even harder than before. It should be available for download in about 
half an hour. Could you please update, set logging for 
network.squeezenetwork to info, then re-enable mysb.com integration?

I'm not so sure I can stand by that statement anymore. I used the
exported container to "go back" and as I discovered, it doesn't restore
everything to a defined state during import. I'm now having a hefty
discussion with QNAP over this, and @Kev is also assisting me in the
research. So please do not assume that this is reliable information from
my side.
What I know now, is that with all the different version I've tried after
it first began (last week), the flooding begins as soon as I log into
SN.

I was hoping @DJanGo's advice on SLIMOPTIONS=" --nomysqueezebox" would
help, but somehow it didn't - or I did something wrong.

been ok using LMS in docker for almost a year. This began after the most
recent update of LMS. I'm not thereby saying that I think there is
something wrong with Michael's work. For me, this is just the point in
time that I recall.


What I don't understand is the fact that you can go back to that 
previous build and be fine, and forth again and it would go crazy. That 
would mean it's not the point in time, but the build, indeed. The 
difference between the two seems to be a change in the changelog, and a 
cosmetic change in the RandomPlay plugin. I don't see how any of these 
could cause a problem like this.



I'll try Michael's log suggestions today and get back.


Don't forget to let LMS off for at least an hour when you've got those 
503 errors. Or disable mysb integration for at least this time.

different subjects in the same thread. Maybe we should move that issue
to the QNAP Forum? I'm sure there are other that will benefit from your
findings

So, without knowing what Michael has seen (and is looking at?), next
thing I would try is a different Squeeze Network login, can you create a
test one to try?


It likely won't help. The blocking is based on the IP address. It might 
help to re-start after you had been offline for an hour or more.


Do you know whether there was anything special about your username? And 
could you please enable debugging for network.squeezenetwork, make it 
stick (a checkbox at the top of Settings/Advanced/Logging)? This might 
give us more information about what's going on. And it will flood your 
disk with an even longer log file :-). Make sure you turn it off again 
once you grabbed it.


I was wondering about 3rd party extensions (or even stock...), as the 
entry point is different from what I've thought in the past: something 
seems to trigger player lookups on mysb.com in a fast pace. Those 
lookups in turn trigger the failing login attempts.



I can't help but think this is related to the players you are using and
their registration on Squeeze Network - maybe the Chromecast ones - do
each of those get registered?

do with your problem.

I'd also checkout your login by logging in directly on Mysqueeebox.com -
no idea what I would expect from this but, successfully or not logging
in there and be able to check all of my players etc may lead to
something

I can't help but think this is related to the players you are using and
their registration on Squeeze Network - maybe the Chromecast ones - do
each of those get registered? When I logged in and looked at my account
I was surprised at just how many players I had registered to my account,
many of them software based that aren't in use now.

On the QNAP CS Export and Import, Export documentation from Docker is
pretty sparse, reading up, Docker Commit seems to be the closest to what
we would want, just tried again and still get the same results, I wonder
if the version of docker QNAP is using has a few issues. I'm going to
try Docker on my PC when I get a chance in the next few days (tried on
my laptop earlier today, but it's processor doesn't support
virtualisation).

I've tried that earlier (it was one of my first thoughts), and it had no
effect then, and now I did it again and it has no effect now either. So,
conclusively - these everlasting requests are not handled by the service
handler, right?

Immediately after clicking "Apply", the log goes completely bananas
again...

I'll spare you the diversion of my fun and games with them tonight,
other than to say I've still not managed to get an LMS Docker setup I'm
100% happy with.

Anyway - back to your problem... did you re-download the Docker image or
are you re-creating the container using the image in local store?

What about trying a different Docker image? One I've been looking at
tonight is "justifiably/logitechmediaserver" if you use the "latest"
then that is 7.9.0 - 1484464959 @ Sun Jan 15, no upgrades required, it
is also quite different to the Larsks image in that LMS is not installed
as root, worth a try I think just to see if the problem persists on what
in theory is a completely different setup.

I then restarted the container, but it had no effect at all. The
mysqueezebox tab is still there, and the log is still flooded with
errors.
I SSH'd back into the container to check that the edit in the file
indeed had survived the restart, and it had.

Any ideas?

Hi Michael,
I removed (deleted) the container completely, reloaded the master image
7.9.0-1463778102 and choose 'Skip' on the registration page. So far so
good.
Then I added the plugins that I use and removed many of those that I
don't use. So far so good.
Then I made a total rescan of my library, and allowed it to play on
various players for a long time. So far so good.
Then I upgraded the container (apt-get update, upgrade and autoremove)
and restarted it. So far so good.
Again I let it play song for several hours, and today I upgraded to
7.9.0-1484464959. So far so good.
:)
I have restarted the container a couple of times, playing new songs. So
far so good.

On the name in the second part, yes it's the same Philippe - my bad,
didn't double check I'd spelt his name correctly. 

Shairtunes allows any Squeeze player to act as an Airplay receiver, so
you can Airplay to them directly from Apple devices, not something I use
a lot, but that feature allowed me to remove all of my old Apple Airplay
infrastructure.

On the Docker state backup, possible leads are commands from within
Docker CLI:

"Docker commit" takes a snapshot of the container and creates an image
that can be loaded from a private repository. Not clear whether this
snapshot includes the r/w container layer or not.

"Docker save ( & load)" which saves the container with all layers,
although again that isn't specifically clear about saving the r/w
container layer, only mentions the this could be wasteful of resources
because it saves child containers as file layers, so when "load"ing them
back on a different host you could be duplicating containers that
already exist on that host.

"Export/Import" Which only saves the top file layer, i.e the container,
which I initially read as the r/w layer when I was researching late last
night, but in retrospect maybe refers to the container excluding any
child containers.

Definitely more reading and playing to be done around this area, when I
get the time.

I've downloaded and installed another LMS Docker image and that has Perl
5.20.2 in it, so looks promising for my Shairtunes issue, next step is
to check I can get Philippe's Shairtunes (forked for Windows) plugin in
and running, then I'll swap over to that container and configure
everything back up on that.

Exactly my experience as well. But are you saying that yo have been
eable to do Export/Import from CLI and successfully made it through a

Interesting... after a bit of a read up on Docker, which has still left
me a complete newby on containers so I could be wrong, but it seems
Export Container from within Docker should copy the r/w container layer
as well as the read only layers and thus in my understanding an import
of that back into a new container should re-create the container with
all the changes made to set LMS up on the original container.
I've not tried using the Docker commands from within, but QNAP's
Container Station export and import tools do not do this, export
container and then import back in gives you a fresh install of LMS in
the new container. When I get a chance I'll have a further play, but
I've hit a show stopper for me... 
I can't get Shairtunes working in my LMS Docker, there's some chatter
but no definitive solution on this in Phillipe's Shairtunes thread and
it's to do with the version of perl, 5.18 in the Larsks LMS Docker image
and Shairtunes needs 5.20, I've tried upgrading perl within the docker
but it fails (and I'm back in way over my head again). So back off to to
Docker hub to see if I can find an LMS Docker image with a suitable
version of perl and/or Shairtunes already installed.

Oh, I agree. The Docker solution is superb.
I too have a "retired" TS-119 still running and with LMS installed, but
not running anymore.
My favorite combination though is the Philippe's Castbridge plugin which
I use with  different ChromeCast devices I have around the house. The
sound quality from a ChromeCast Audio is surprisingly good.
What I am struggling with now, is how to make a run-time snapshot of
docker containers for backup.

Hi,

It depends if I have my login and password handy, sometimes I've skipped
that step during install, but at some stage later when configuring
everything else up I do enter my username and password in the web GUI,
so not really definitive either way (and I guess DJanGo has more fully
answered your query).
I have LMS running on various devices (Qnap NAS(s) and RPI) on the PI I
use Max2Play - twice I've used their web interface to turn off SN
dependency and twice some time afterwards I've ended up with a crashed
server and subsequent corrupted Db - could be a coincidence because I've
not gone back and proved it, but it did push me back onto my original
TS-119 which was more stable than the PI at that time - I need a stable
setup for at least our bedroom player because we use it as our morning
alarm clock. The ageing TS-119 is being replaced by the TS-251+, I did
the LMS Docker setup at the same time as a standard SSOTS setup but so
far have not been able to get the 251+ to work with SSOTS and LMS,
stumbling block was pushing the update tarball in from SSOTS and I've
not got round to altering the tmp folder to make it big enough for an
update package - I have been very impressed with the Docker solution,
very quick and seems to use hardly any resources, so will probably run
with that.

if your not using mysqueezebox or plugins that needed mysqueezebox - you
should use that option.
If that option is set the tab mysqueezebox in the webgui is gone.

No.  Whether you register LMS with MySB.com or not, LMS still sees &
connects to MySB.com.  If you use any Apps or even just the Internet
Radio default menus in LMS this is using MySB.com.

I have just setup LMS in a Docker container on a TS-251+, using the same
Larsks LMS docker image as you (Oyvindo)  recommended in your how to
thread, LMS is the same version as you were having problems with: 

LMS-7.9.0-1484126560 to 7.9.0 - 1484464959 @ Sun Jan 15, 
All standard install plugins enabled (i.e. none of these changed after
install)

Additional plugins manually installed:
BBC iplayer 
iplayer extra
Lastmix - DSTM support using Last FM
Powersave

Players connected:
1 Touch
1 Boom
3 Radio's 
1 Joggler running Squeeze OS/SqueezePlay
1 occasional use SqueezePlay on Win 7 
1 occasional use SqueezePlay on Mac OS

I am not seeing the log flooded after an error 503, everything seems
fine with my install.

Not sure if this will help you or not, but does give you a working
baseline to start from.

Hi Michael,
thanks for your support and your never ending effort to keep the
community alive :-)

I have now deleted this instance of LMS completely, and gone back to a
previous release. So far, the problem is gone. That's why I (in the
first place) assumed that some bug had crept into your latest release.
My plan now, is to carefully upgrade until I get back on the latest
release, to see if it begins again reporting SN errors.
I'll keep you posted, but it may take some days as I am kind of busy at
work these days.

It's a long shot. But please disable whatever you're not 100% certain 
you need. You can always re-enable them after the tests. Most plugins 
there are installed by default, but you don't need them. Amazon, MOG,

As you can see, for whatever reason your LMS is sending way more 
requests to mysb.com than it should. It doesn't back-off as expected, 
but keeps hammering it. Are you using any 3rd party plugins?


I think your best bet is to shut down LMS for 15 minutes, to let the 
hitrate count on mysb's load-balancer settle, then try again.

Could you please find any message that appeared _before_ that flood started? 
We've seen issues with LMS sometimes hammering mysb, which would result in 
those error 503. but the root cause still is unknown to me.

I updated my LMS from LMS-7.9.0-1484126560 to 7.9.0 - 1484464959 and now
my log is flooded with the following error messages every 3 seconds:

I have checked the username and password to SqueezeNetwork, and it is
correct. I also tried to disable the mysqueezebox.com Integration, but
no avail.

Then I downgraded to 7.9.0-1484126560 again, and the problem is gone.
Upgrading again to 7.9.0-1484464959 and the problem returns.

This leads me to think that there's some bug in 7.9.0 - 1484464959.

Apart from the above, LMS works perfect, and plays on all my players,
but this keeps my server from spin-down as LMS writes to the log
constantly.
