Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Search not working

Hi

I have observed that Advanced Search does not work when the number of
tracks in the database gets very large. Is this 'normal'?

Thanks

The following are the official Logitech instructions on how to install
LMS on Windows 7:

Windows 7 / XP / Vista

To install Logitech Media Server:

Get the latest version of Logitech Media Server from the Downloads
page.

Run the downloaded file and follow the onscreen instructions.

In the final window, click Finish. The Logitech Media Server Control
Panel will appear.

Next, you'll need to configure Logitech Media Server to find your media
and sync to your MySqueezebox.Com account.

In the Logitech Media Server Control Panel, click the Library tab.
Here, you can:
Change your media folder locations. Your Windows Music, Videos,
and Pictures folders will be entered here initially.
Set your Playlist folder location.
Opt to Use iTunes by selecting this check box. This means
Logitech Media Server will create your music database from your iTunes
database.

On the Account tab, you can enter your MySqueezebox.Com credentials.
This way, you can access any music-service-based Apps you've subscribed
to from Logitech Media Server. If you don't already have a
MySqueezebox.Com account, go to www.mysqueezebox.com/user/signup to
create one.

Click Apply to confirm the settings, and then OK to close the
Control Panel.

NOTE: Squeezebox players only support music streaming. Music, video, and
picture content can be accessed through Logitech Revue.

My sole interest with LMS is so that the PiCorePlayer on my Raspberry
works, using my PC as server. pCP only seems to accept LMS, it can't
find the media directories by itself, which I would prefer

When I tried to install LMS following those instructions I run into that
error window I showed.

My question is in the right place. This is a forum for Logitech Media
Server, as written above, and on the large title much above it says
"Logitech Squuezebox".

My question is related to PiCorePlayer, LMS and Squeezebox, as the three
work together. What I want is someone's help, not to try to send me
elsewhere as my question does not belong here. It does.

No your question is about LMS nothing to do with picoreplayer. It was
not suggested you take this question elsewhere it was suggested you
change the title as this is about install problems with LMS on PC
Greg one of the developers of piCorePlayer would probably know what will
get you the best support !

I have only run LMS on Linux so can be little help for LMS on PC

Anyhow, if you have piCoreplayer running why not install LMS on the Pi
and attach a USB HDD to hold your music ?

I tried twice, uninstalling and installing LMS again from the beginning.

The system doesn't seem to allow skipping nothing. I have tried.

This is where you are wrong.

LMS would work very badly as server, so it's not an option. You can't
use SATA 3.5" HDDs with it, which is where my data is and will be.
Certainly not an option.

There's a PiCorePlayer tutorial showing how to do that, but the tutorial
fails to explain how to use PCP with an external server.

Right now there wouldn't be any problem in changing the title, but the
problem IS certainly related to PCP, no matter how you insist in saying
it's not.

It's about how to use PCP with an external LMS server.

Wrong,
use a USB to SATA adaptor, I do

Wrong,
you can install LMS without ANY player and it will work so the

Wrong,
You're having trouble installing the LMS server on a PC

V 7.7.6 was the last version released by Logitech as Logitech stopped
providing active maintenance at that version.

Since then LMS has been maintained by the community and by Michael
Herger who is a Logitech employee.

There are many bug & security fixes since 7.7.6. Also if you plan to
use internet - "https" support really requires using latest LMS such as
7.9.2 (available in nightly) but at least use 7.9.1 from here

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Unable to reach LMS web gui after fresh installation

2019-08-08 Thread bvrulez

I installed LMS 7.9.1 on a fresh install of Raspbian Buster. The service
is up and running, which I check with service logitechmediaserver
status. There are no disks connected to the Raspi and no media should be
scanned. However, I can not access the web gui under
http://RaspiIP:9000. I can ping the Raspi of course from my Laptop and I
am logged into via SSH.

I downloaded the ARM64.deb from here and my Pi is 3 Model B
http://downloads.slimdevices.com/LogitechMediaServer_v7.9.1/.

I have a second Raspi running in my network, but of course under a
different IP since it is another ethernet port. It is reachable via
browser. I also use 7.9.1 there.

I read a lot about this problem online and came across the cache problem
which does not apply here. I also checked with another browser I never
use.

Where can I check if the port 9000 is correct? Is there another reason
for the problem?

Indeed it is, sorry; it's just that your problem has nothing to do with
"PiCorePlayer" nor "Squeebox", but I think you know that now. The
advice you have gotten to install latest LMS 7.9.x is good advice; it
may just eliminate your error message. Please do this first, then
report results back here. Once LMS is running on your PC, getting music
to play at your RPi will not be a problem.

But however, also with the correct ARM.deb my browser is not able to

Not sure if these will work on Raspbian bur should do

try "netstat -t -l"

It will show which ports are being "listened" - if LMS is running you
should see port 9000, 909 and 3483

If 9001, 9002 ... is open then something is blocking 9000 for LMS.

The command "lsof -i" will show the processes with open internet ports.
You can identify processes with ports.

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS on Raspberry Pi4

2019-08-08 Thread gustavm

Hi

I have been running LMS on a Pi2 for a number of years. Has worked
reliably but quite slow to update after adding new FLAC files, and
sometimes not quite as responsive as I'd like. I had been thinking of
changing to a Pi3, but now that the Pi4 is available was wondering about
that.

Should it just work fine on that with most recent LMS version, or are
there any differences I need to take note of?

I'm not very Linux savvy, in the past have just followed the various
instruction threads.

Thanks in advance for any advice...

Do you run picoreplayer at the moment ?

There are reports on here that say pcp 6.0.1 runs LMS well on Pi4 and is
fast

Heat has been discussed as well due to the Pi4's CPU

rpi4 user here.

The only drawback at the moment is the heat. Static pi runs at 60C or so
and this increases with work load.

A naked pi should have no problem with LMS and Squeezelite, unlikely to
throttle I would think.

There a cases (flicr being one and others being developed) and fans.

I have a Pimoroni shim-fan which is a bit temperamental with it's bloody
led light but works well.

There is a script for raspbian, but used with pCP, it just runs all the
time, baby! like a battery rabbit :)

I mostly use the Raspbian desktop and last week built a Spotify-Connect
client on the pi using librespot.

At times the cpu was showing 100% use but the tem never went above 65C
thanks to the fan.

It's good fun :p

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Sorting Albums by specific MusicBrainz tag "ORIGINALYEAR"

2019-08-08 Thread erwjack

Hi everyone,
to tag the files I use a combination of MusicBrainz Picard (for a first
exact classification) and Mp3tag (for some refinement and
personalization).
Among the standard MusicBrainz tags there are also the original year and
date of the first release (ORIGINALYEAR and ORIGINALDATE), ie the date
of first release of a work, while the YEAR and DATE tags are used to
identify the year and the date of the specific release that is being
tagged.
For example, if I tag "Foxtrot" by Genesis from the 2008 SACD box set, I
will have YEAR = 2008 and ORIGINALYEAR = 1972.
Well, not wanting to alter the use of these two fields, I wonder if
there is a solution to ensure that LMS (actually I use Daphile but it is
the same) and the connected clients list the albums by sorting them by
descending ORIGINALYEAR instead of YEAR.
Thanks bye.

EJ

This tells you how to set up a usb stick or drive

https://www.picoreplayer.org/how_to_add_usb_hdd.shtml

Then, from you LMS gui go to Settings > Basic Settings > Media Folders
find your key/folder there. Highlight it and close scan or rescan

@bvrulez

It's best not to do too much stuff as root with the raspbery pi.

Sudo works fine and you can use sudo su for the odd time you may need
root.

Just advice, as over on the raspberry forums thay discourage using root
all the time.

No I use a separate device in another room for streaming to an external
DAC, so only looking to run LMS on this device. In view of the heat
dissipation, maybe I should consider a Pi3 instead. I think this should
give a substantial improvement over a Pi2?

I bought one of 'these'

I didn't particularly want a case with a fan, but this is just a stop
gap until something more to my liking comes along. I'd retired the Pi4
to my spares drawer, but it seemed a pity to waste it, hence the
purchase.
Noise-wise I'd say it's whisper quiet, but then it's in the same room as
my PC, which has a case fan going constantly.
But even when I turn the PC off, I need to put my ear to within inches
of the Pi case to hear anything.

OK, let's rewind and try to solve the problem.

With the help of a friend, more familiar with Linux, we installed PCP
5.0, with Jivelite and all.

Things went fine. PCP is seeing my network, albums and all.

So I picked a music to play, and I'm supposed to hear music, but I don't
have any.

So let's explain my setup. USB out do DAC > DAC to amp > amp to
speakers.

I also tried the analog output, and I get no music. So:

1) Where do I select the output?

2) Can I have USB output?

Not wrong. A Raspberry is not a powerful computer to handle what a

the limits of that computer.

Your are wrong, It's your opinion, not a fact. I did have problems with

Just FYI ... there are plenty of LMS installs on RPi with libraries in
the tens of thousands of tracks.
There are a few posts here with stats showing scan times that are
reasonable, especially for an operation (clear and rescan) that is run
infrequently.

You should be able to support around 10 players with little problem.

Issues are more likely in wireless networking than in the RPi itself.

RPi4 looks like it will be an even better LMS machine.

That's why I ask people that do have more experience about that than me.
And their opinion has been that the capabilities of a Raspberry Pi 3B
didn't recommend using it as a server computer.

I still do not understand how I get to open the LMS GUI in order to
check level of the USB output.

Is there any other place I should check to see why it's not working?
Something on the PCP itself, on the Raspberry?

Can we forget about LMS for a minute?

The PCP web setup allows to change the output to USB audio, which I did.
For LMS says it's not running, so what is preventing that USB to work?

Is there any other place to set that up?

Volume in PCP's audio settings does not allow any adjustment.

Yes, when I finished installing PCP on my Raspberry, all the tracks from
my music folder showed on the PCP screen.

Previous to that I had had LMS scan that same folder.

What I found on PCP in the folder they called "My music" was around
twenty subfolders, with titles like Jazz composers, or Years, or Genres,
that I never created.

Right now I wasn't interested how that classification was done, or which
program did it, I took the first album on the list and started playing
music.

But music only came out if set on the PCP Squeeze Audio Device settings
were in "Analog Audio", which is not what I need. No music if I set it
to USB audio, with my Topping D50 connected to it.

Can you show us a screenshot of the PCP screen where you see all your

2019-08-08 Thread paul-

Linux doesn’t have drive letters like witndows (i.e. C:\, D:\, etc)

Linux system you connect drives to path names off of the root
filesystem. They can be anywhere on the system, but for simplicity on
pCP we put them in /mnt/xx

You are vastly confused as to what pCP is. Those are not screen shots
of anything pCP generates.

That is either a jivelite or some software player screen.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Installing PiCorePlayer & Squeebox

2019-08-08 Thread Apesbrain

Ok, it's taken a lot to piece it all together as English is not OP's
native language and everyone has been a bit punchy, but I think we now
have the complete picture:

OP is running LMS on a Windows PC. He is trying to play via a Raspberry
Pi 3 running piCorePlayer 5 and JiveLite. The screens he's posted are
from the latter. He says he successfully hears analog output from the
Pi, but has not been able to play through to his Topping DAC via USB.
He's configured pCP to output via USB.

Any suggestions on ALSA settings he might try?

OP: On the PC you are using to run LMS open a browser and go to:

I don’t see where he has ever got sound, but if what you say is the
case, it could just be alsamixer muted or low. Usb devices are very
difficult to manage writhing pcp, as volume controls are not
standardized between usb dacs.

But, I’m not sure his server on his windows pc is configured
properly..

If you loaded one such image with slightly modified parameters (239x239
- it's the resulting image size) to make sure it's not taken from the
cache, would it really take that long to load? Where is the original
artwork stored? In the music files or separate as a cover.jpg or similar?

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Server Machine Alternatives.

Would you suggest to install a Linux distribution on my Mac mini (Late
2009, SSD, 8GB RAM) running El Capitan at the moment (the last os that
supports this model) in order to use it as LMS machine?

Considering you have no experience with Linux, I'd definitely not
recommend this. I'm pretty sure building the necessary SSL libraries
would be easier than learning to handle a new OS on a Mac.

I have observed that Advanced Search does not work when the number of

Any errors in server.log or scanner.log? How large is "very large"? What
is your OS, hardware, LMS version etc.?

Every image is stored in the FLAC files, and they're all pre-sized to
600x600. LMS is running off an SSD, so the database is on really fast
disk.

It's weird, but this is definitely correlated to the upgrade to Debian
10.

Tried a bunch of image IDs and sizes. Instant response to the browser
with the resized images, and nothing logged in perfmon.log
