Firefox has a pref for that (browser.download.manager.retention) but
even though it appears in SM2 it is not supported (yet). You may file an
enhancement bug for adding support for it (both the pref itself and an
entry on Preferences/Browser/Downloads).

Correction: The pref mostly works in SM2 as well, there's only a minor
issue (if it's set to 0, meaning always remove, the Download Manager
isn't always updated right away but reopening it fixes it).

The pref UI is about to be added here:

Re: SM1.1 to SM2.0 profiles on Windows?

Correct, the profile manager doesn't offer that. Instead, just convert
the profile to a non-relative by setting IsRelative=0 and adapting Path
in profiles.ini, cf. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profiles.ini_file. Then
check for any paths (mail storage directories etc.) that you want to
adapt in prefs.js (make a backup beforehand to be safe) or use the UI,
e.g. Server Settings under MailNews Account Settings.

Thanks. I have now moved the profile.

profiles.ini is the new version of registry.dat, but much easier to
edit. The slight annoyance is hard coded paths in prefs.js, but you can
use the -rel version instead. Here's what I did after making backups:

1. Open SM. Kill absoluate paths in prefs.js from about:config by
resetting to default. Exit SM.

2. Move FileSystem files to new location
3. Edit profiles.ini IsRelative=0 and edit Path to point to new
location. (On Windows I used single backslashes in the path). Restart SM.

4. Test browsing/mail/news to make sure everything still works as expected.

Mort, two things..

1.I think u...@domain.invalid is SeaMonkeys default address, which
means multiple people can use it, which can lead to confusion not
knowing which u...@domain.invalid we're talking to. Can you give
yourself a more personal address in your Mozilla Newsgroup news account.
Thanks.

2.Have you set SM up to print to the correct paper size. Now having
suggested this, I cannot find where SM allows you to set the paper size,
so does it just use the system default?? Mort, if you print out a couple
of page document from Word, or whatever, does it print out o.k.??

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for your reply.

As for 1., my replies usually include my proper URL, but occasionally it
gives the invalid bit instead. GOK why.

Regarding 2., I've been involved with many e-mails with HP support. I
can briefly summarize:

On my older PC with XP and older SeaMonkey, this printer (HP 8250) works
fine. On my newer PC with XP Pro and older SM, it used to work fine.
Since I recently upgraded to SM 1.1.18, I have the top and left margins
problem, but only on SM-sourced items. Photos from my H.D. or SD cards
are fine, Word is fine, but e-mails and internet items all print with
overrun at the top and left margins. My margin settings are 0.5 inches,
but changing to 1 does not help. Scaling down to 80% or even 60% gives
smaller text but still with margin problems. Paper size is correct as
set = 8.5 x 11 letter size. Printing identical items from Internet
Explorer or Firefox is fine.

The inescapable conclusion of HP support and me, is that there is a
problem between SM 1.1.18 and the printer. I do not know if this is an
SM bug, or is unique to my situation. In any event, it is very
frustrating, and any help toward a solution will be greatly appreciated.

(I do not wish to buy a new printer, as this one is otherwise fine, ad I
have a big bag full of ink cartridges for this printer. In addition, the
same problem could possibly continue with a new printer.)

Thanks again,

Mort

I had a lot of problems when I installed 1.1.18 and some of them were
similar to yours. I tried everything but couldn't fix them. I finally
switched to version 2 and it has been fine for over 2 weeks now.

I'm not having any of those problems, at least not new to 1.1.18.

When I first start SeaMonkey, navigation keys on my keyboard (Page Up,
Page Down, Home, End, and the arrow keys) are sometimes ignored.
However, I can still drag the scroll bar. If I move my cursor over a
link, select that link, and then return to my home page (which is my
bookmarks file), then everything works okay. This has been going on for
some time. I first reported this in bug #445654 with SeaMonkey 1.1.11.

According to a schedule posted here (and in other Mozilla newsgroups),
the final version should be available about a month from now.

What means ALERT 2147942487

2009-09-27 Thread DoctorBill

Three questions:

1. I have Dial-Up.

It take a long time to get connected.

The SM 1.1 browser throws up this message window.

ALERT
  2147942487

It then takes two tries to get rid of it - unless I load
another web site - then it X's out immediately.

Why ?

2. as an aside - do I dump all the News headers by erasing the .msf file ?
i.e. to start over?

3. I can get wireless here in my country town 20 miles from the big
city.

Is wireless essentially readable by anybody here with wireless?
i.e. no privacy (Bank, Stock Trading, etc) ?
