2.53.6: nothing happens (Start -> Neustart>), nothing in the error console.

As the corona-generator uses the Vue.js framework, it's supposed to run
on less recent browsers without Web Component polyfills, but obviously
something is not working that would make that happen -- maybe the

This UA (as in this post) doesn't cause the above weirdness, which was

In both cases I prefer the SM presentation (from the pictures shown). As
the UA changes the display this is a deliberate choice by G, and if
anyone wants to have a FF presentation that's how to get it.

At one time the SM presentation had defects such as the length of the

This doesn't seem to happen now (at least, without JS enabled).

The only real improvement needed would be to delete or compress the

No, SM should be upgraded, but because of its legacy framework not only
will upgrade break extension support but require a major rewrite of the
codebase. A lot to ask of the volunteer developers.
...

Generally, what has changed since Firefox and SeaMonkey were in
lock-step is new or changed JS APIs, in particular so-called Web Components.

As this (classic) extension has done the job of implementing the subset
of these APIs expected by GitHub (that they couldn't be bothered to send
polyfills for), maybe it provides a good route to doing that for other
sites, at least until SM gets native support for them.

I wonder if there is anything specific to GH in the extension other than
(I assume) that it enables the WC APIs for GH only, and the selected
subset of APIs?

Yep, now I am. Open in Firefox and the TOC works. Disable JavaScript and
reload and TOC and it no longer works in Firefox. Didn't bother to debug
what the exact issue with SM was.

>...>

There's a big difference between links that work out of the box (href> -> ) and scripted links. With the right (ie, very
wrong) scripting, any element can be made a link or a target: that's how
you break the web.

The links work for me in SM2.53.6 with JavaScript enabled. However I
have the GitHub WebComponents extension installed, as anyone who needs
to use GitHub should: <https://github.com/JustOff/github-wc-polyfill>.
Maybe that makes the difference.

Off-topic: shouldn't that extension be built into SM for all sites?

That the site's links may work partially under some circumstances
doesn't affect the main issue which is that the links are incorrect and
the site should fix them. Similar to Eric Morecambe's musical notes, the
link elements have all the right attributes but the wrong values.

My guess is that it is using some specific JavaScript mechanism
'user-content-*' to act as a link that legacy SeaMonkey doesn't support

enable the function. Far better to just use tried and true link-anchor

Are you sure? This isn't in any spec I've seen, though it's trivial to
implement in JavaScript if you want a broken page. Also, keep quiet
about it or Google will try to add it to HTML5!

What seems to be the case is that in the endless rush to break the Web,
it was decided to deprecate . In other words, just about the first thing that anyone
learned about HTML anchors is now deprecated ...

The problem here is that the page has links but no matching anchors, or
vice versa.

As an example, take the heading "Introduction". Here's its ToC entry, an
unnumbered list item in a nested unnumbered list:

Introduction

...

This would link to an anchor or id="Introduction"> in the same document.

But this is the target heading:

href="#introduction" aria-hidden="true">

...

Introduction

If the Toc  element were:
	name="introduction">Introduction

and the elements in the heading were:
...

Introduction

the page would work properly: clicking on the ToC "Introduction" takes
you to the heading, and clicking on the icon next to the "Introduction"
heading takes you back to the ToC entry. Maybe there's some site JS that
makes this vaguely better, but as I was testing HTML I didn't enable JS
for the page. When I did, I found that the ToC link worked, but the
reverse link didn't.

How this basic 1992 web functionality has been broken by some obscure
processing chain is a matter for the site owner, who may need to wrangle
GitHub's Wiki functionality harder (or bypass it). OP should try the New
Issue button here .

Only if the APPDATA environment variable were set to

Then the string '%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Seamonkey' would identify where your
Profiles directory is, in a context where environment variables are

reading a string from a Windows registry setting of type REG_EXPAND_SZ

Environment variables can be set system-wide as well as per-user in

inherited down the process hierarchy. See

The endless JS domains mentioned are associated with the captcha

It acts normally with Firefox.

Any idea what is causing it?

The button has this CSS background-color from its class s-btn__primary:
 var(--theme-button-primary-background-color)

See

for discussion of this syntax. These CSS variables are part of a site theme.

--theme-button-primary-background-color means --theme-primary-color,
which is hsl(12.87958115,76.70682731%,48.82352941%) -- call it "brick";

On hover, the button gets its background-color from its class

var(--theme-button-primary-hover-background-color)

--theme-button-primary-hover-background-color means
--theme-primary-color-darken-5, the brick colour with 43.82352941%
lightness.

--theme-primary-color-darken-5 is defined using calc(), like this

hsl( h, s, calc(var(--theme-primary-color-l) - 5%)

but units inside calc() were not supported until FF57, and not in
 context until FF59. In SM 2.53.6, FF52, etc, apparently colours
specified with calc() default to white. SeaMonkey needs to acquire the
Stylo CSS engine.

Notably the button text is styled white regardless of hovering, as the
theme doesn't contain variables like --theme-button-text-color and
--theme-button-text-hover-color.

Consequently the button seems to disappear on hovering.

This CSS can be injected to correct the display for the default site theme:

.s-btn__primary:hover,.s-btn__primary:focus,.s-btn__primary:active {
color:#fff;
background-color:hsl(12.87958115,76.70682731%,43.82352941%);
}

An extension like StyleM is good for this.

Why anyone would think it's worthwhile to create this CSS is a mystery.
Affordance effects like button hovering ought to be consistent across
not just the browser and all websites displayed in it but all other
applications on the same GUI platform.

No version of the Lightning extension listed for Thunderbird is suitable
for SM 2.53 because the new versions use WebExtensions while the version
5.4 that you need is limited to SM 2.49.x. The Add-on Converter could
change that, but you ought to be using the version distributed with the
program.

In the Release Notes
:

- Lightning or one of the distributed extensions is not showing up or is
disabled under Add-ons.
If the extension is disabled and can not be enabled deinstall it. If it does
not show up after restart do the following:

Enter "about:config" in the location bar.
Enter "extensions.installedDistroAddon" in the search field.
Reset the key of the extension not showing up using the popup menu with the
mouse. If in doubt just reset all keys, but this might bring back previously
uninstalled distributed Add-ons.
Restart SeaMonkey.

This causes the extensions distributed with the program to be
[re-]installed. In Debian-style Linux they're here:

$ ls -l /opt/seamonkey/distribution/extensions
total 2012
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root  399843 Jan 17 16:53
{59c81df5-4b7a-477b-912d-4e0fdf64e5f2}.xpi
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1305192 Jan 17 16:53
{e2fda1a4-762b-4020-b5ad-a41df1933103}.xpi

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root  351730 Jan 17 16:53 inspec...@mozilla.org.xpi

The Lightning extension is the file
"{e2fda1a4-762b-4020-b5ad-a41df1933103}.xpi"

I expect that that there is a directory branch
"distributions\extensions" under the SeaMonkey program directory in Windows.

Any idea to send to the developers  of the website to correct the
problem they introduced with the latest redesign of the web ?

They are probably using some JavaScript API that isn't supported by SM
(yet).

The JS code may report some error in the Error Console, typically that
something that was expected to be an Object wasn't (eg
window.customElements; other problem words include shadowDOM and WebRTC).

Try the site with Firefox starting from 52ESR, then 60ESR, then 78ESR
and see which starts working. Let the developers know. You could ask
whether they can enable a fall-back for 52ESR (assuming it doesn't work
now); that should also support SM 2.5x. For more trouble, you could try
the intervening permanent beta versions (eg if 60 works and 52 doesn't,
56, then 58 or 54, ...): knowing FF n+1 works and FF n doesn't could
give a strong hint as to the failure.

Just to get in, it looks like you need eldiario.es and www.google.com
(possibly other G sites) enabled for JS.

Is this not the case for iMac??

I think it should be, but you would have to close the browser with
File>Quit or equivalent and not just restart it after a crash. Also
Preferences>Browser>Display on: Browser Startup could have an effect if
you start with Home page or Blank page.

The window size is remembered in the xulstore.json file in your profile.

You could adjust this with an editor when SM isn't running. Note that
the file has no line breaks so you'll need to use an editor that can
wrap and unwrap lines, or pretty-print JSON; and do make a copy first.

Find the stanza beginning "'chrome://navigator/content/navigator.xul':
{", then find the fragment between here and the matching "}" that looks
like this, except for the numbers and formatting:

'main-window': {
  'screenX': '47',
  'screenY': '63',
  'width': '1110',
  'height': '712',
  'sizemode': 'normal'
},

Change the width and/or height as desired. Restart SM. Does it make any
difference?

Whatever's happening isn't an eBay problem, as I tested the procedure
that I posted earlier using a similar email from eBay. Fortunately the
sort of JS snafu that occurs with web pages isn't involved in email
display and so UA spoofing was always a long shot.

As you can see from the message source i.ebayimg.com is the image host
for the missing item pictures, such as the lens hood/gegenlichtblende in
your example.

I really think that there is some issue with your display permissions.
If it can't be fixed by manipulating the UI as I described, some obscure
about:config setting may be the problem. If so, or perhaps anyway, you
need to test this with a clean profile.

You probably have 'Block images and other content from remote sources'
set in Preferences>Mail & Newsgroups>Message Display.

When this setting blocks content in HTML mail, you should see a warning
ribbon 'To protect your privacy ...' above the message headers
containing an 'Options' button. In the options that the button offers,
select to 'Allow remote content from https://i.ebayimg.com'.

If you don't see this, or just to verify the setting, open Tools>Data
Manager and select 'Permissions only' in the pull-down at the top left.
You should see an entry for Domain 'ebayimg.com' in the domain list; if
you select this, it should show 'https://i.ebayimg.com Load Images' with
Allow selected and 'Use Default' unchecked. Set these values if not (eg,
you may have Block selected).

You can add this permission manually if necessary. Open Tools>Data
Manager, select the Permissions tab, Add at the bottom, then enter
'https://i.ebayimg.com' (without the quotes) in the field 'Enter a host
name', bottom right, with type 'Load Images' and 'Add'; then uncheck
'Use Default' under the line that appears and select 'Allow' (even
though it's already selected). ebayimg.com should be in the Domain list
on the left.

Your UI may vary depending on language and any installed theme.

Some sites mistakenly interpret various forms of tracking protection as

Having said that, you may not be able to find a collection of settings

Tracking protection is configurable per site. If it's so configured

It may be that the extension author set an upper limit on the SM version
to be supported and 2.53.6 exceeds it, even though the extension might
still work; alternatively, the author may not have included some trivial
additions that would have enabled the extension for SM.

In either case you can try processing the extension with the online
converter at .

If the conversion succeeds, the extension should be installable but may
still not be functional; at least you tried. That means that the
extension needs non-trivial changes to work with SM 2.53.6.

I would be careful about installing more than one ad-blocker as it will
slow your browsing experience and there may be unwanted interactions,
possibly even causing ad-blocking to fail.

Your problem is
which remove Places migration from versions older than Firefox 60.

From the accompanying commit
,
we can see that the previous migration cut-off was schema v35/FF52 and
the commit advances it to schema v43/FF52.

The simplest solution is to use FF78ESR, at least until the next ESR
version replaces it. As you have chosen to be a "permanent beta" tester,
that probably isn't a good answer and won't be in the long term anyway.

How about this? Have a scrap installation of FF78ESR (or later, as many
Firefoxes as you need to bridge from SM 2.x to a bleeding edge FF).
Close SM, copy places.sqlite to a profile in FF78ESR, run that FF with
that profile, close it, copy the new places.sqlite to FF85 (or later, to
a subsequent ESR and repeat until you have a compatible version).

Alternatively (for a higher degree of difficulty), reviewing the SQL
that was removed in the commit (in Database::MigrateV36Up() through to
Database::MigrateV43Up()) could enable one to create a SQLite database
script that upgrades the schema used in places.sqlite from v35 to a
compatible version.

The new bookmark is meant to be created by default. To "Cancel" adding

It appears to be a bug that changes to the dialog fields are still

Personally I would not have made the dialog behave this way (even with

no bookmark is added until OK is used, and any changes to the dialog are
saved at the same time. The dialog as-is is adequate for editing an

When I click the link it doesn't even give me the option in SM or
FireFox. Works in Opera but I don't really use Opera.

Microsoft provides this info for "unsupported browsers":
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/unsupported-browsers

According to
, they
support "Firefox, the latest version plus two previous versions" -- no
idea what that actually means, best case 84.0.2, ESR 78, ESR 60, worst
case 84.0.2, 84.0.1, 84.0 -- but not "Calling" and for "Meetings" only
meetings with PSTN coordinates and then with no video or outgoing
sharing. You would have to ensure that 3rd party cookies are accepted,
presumably because Microsoft loves to mash up content from lots of
different domains, all of which are under its control but unrelated to
the domain of the page (see support.microsoft.com after it was broken
several years ago).

The client uses WebRTC which might just work in SM if you install this
extension to enable it

but I fear Teams will also expect other JS APIs that don't exist in SM.

Probably it will be easier for the vendor to use Zoom like the rest of
the known universe, the web client if necessary
, though not
with SeaMonkey.

This extension (which I have not used) may help:

Again, not with SeaMonkey (yet).

On 17/01/2021 22:54, Philip Gladstone wrote:

I found the failing commit in openlayers:

git show 886ca26c6ae5

Good digging.

Rather alarmingly it includes the following new section in the README.md

## Supported Browsers

OpenLayers runs on all modern browsers that support
[HTML5](https://html.spec.whatwg.org/multipage/) and [ECMAScript
5](http://www.ecma-international.org/ecma-262/5.1/). This includes Chrome,
Firefox, Safari and Edge.

For older browsers and platforms (Internet Explorer, Android 4.x, iOS v12 and
older, Safari v12 and older), polyfills may be needed for the following browser
features:

* [`requestAnimationFrame`](https://caniuse.com/#feat=requestanimationframe):
Available from [polyfill.io](https://polyfill.io/).

FF23

* [`element.prototype.classList`
(`add`/`remove`)](https://caniuse.com/#feat=classlist): Available from
[polyfill.io](https://polyfill.io/).

FF49 for full support

* [`URL` API](https://caniuse.com/#feat=url): Available from
[polyfill.io](https://polyfill.io/).
* [Pointer events](https://caniuse.com/#feat=pointer): Use
[elm-pep](https://npmjs.com/package/elm-pep) (lightweight) or
[@openlayers/pepjs](https://npmjs.com/package/pepjs) (for really, really old
browsers).

>

  Adding the line:

https://unpkg.com/elm-pep";>

to the web page makes seamonkey work. However, I thought that seamonkey was a
reasonably modern browser, so it might be interesting to understand why I need
this polyfill ...

Firefox 59 was the first version that supported the Pointer events
extension
 and
that's less than 2 years old, or two ESRs behind the current ESR.

As discussed earlier in the thread, SM 2.5.3 is based on slightly
earlier code, but I think it still counts as reasonably modern.
caniuse.com says that even now less than 75% of active browsers support
the extension. I certainly wouldn't want to use it without providing a
polyfill. Whether that's the responsibility of the site or openlayers is
moot but at least the requirement is made clear - up to a point.

Saying that the browser must support HTML5 and quoting the latest WHATWG
"specification" ...

> OpenLayers runs on all modern browsers that support
[HTML5](https://html.spec.whatwg.org/multipage/) ...

... is a meaningless requirement since it's a "living document" that
changes with no versioning, and so the meaning of the statement depends
on when you visit the URL ("the lunatics have taken over the asylum").
If you want to quote that in a spec, you need to use a GitHub commit or
a Web Archive URL. But no-one does that: they just say "use the latest
Firefox, Chrome, Safari, or Edge", so essentially "use one of these two
browsers".

>... and [ECMAScript
5](http://www.ecma-international.org/ecma-262/5.1/). This includes
Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge.

Even if true regarding JS language syntax (ES 5.1: 2011), this is a
little misleading since DOM APIs (eg, Pointer event) that are defined in
some later version of the WHATWG, and in the W3C Pointer Events spec (V1
April 2015) are required.

* Go to https://pskreporter.info/pskmapn?
* After the page loads, open the developer tools and set in the console

* Now press break in the source debugger. It should break on the next event

* Clicking on the + or - in the top left corner will trigger a break.

SM 2.53.5.1 Linux x86; NoScript 5.1.9.

I loaded the site and enabled JS for pskreporter.info, cdn.polyfill.io,
cdn.jsdelivr.net, unpkg.com, ajax.googleapis.com, and bootstrapcdn.com.
Now there's a world map with day/night overlay and lots of pins. In the

increments continually.

Following steps 2-4, I get a break on step 3 at map_control_oln.js:4363

In Chrome, you can figure out that it is this element that has the pointermove
event handler:
...

However I can't tell where the event handler is in seamonkey.
...

In the Inspector tab of the SM dev tools, you should see a little "ev"
in a black-filled box after each element that has any attached event
handler.

For me, the same element shows the pointermove event handler as

function(t) {
  this.originalPointerMoveEvent_ = t;
  var e = !(!this.down_ || !this.isMoving_(t));
  this.dispatchEvent(new Da(t.type, this.map_, t, e))
}

If I run the minified ol.js through beautifier.io I find this at line 14776:
}, e.prototype.relayEvent_ = function(t) {
this.originalPointerMoveEvent_ = t;
...

As you say, the event is obviously not being delivered: maybe some this
is not being bound as expected or some issue with preventDefault?

Old or latest. Flash is dead.

Doesn't matter what version of browser still supports it. The
manufacturer of Flash doesn't after yesterday and will block content
from using it.

"Since Adobe will no longer be supporting Flash Player after December
31, 2020 and Adobe will block Flash content from running in Flash Player
beginning January 12, 2021, Adobe strongly recommends all users
immediately uninstall Flash Player to help protect their systems."

Adobe doesn't/didn't mediate Flash content, except by the player.

The "block" only applies if you use a version of the Flash player that
includes a time cut-off in the player code
<http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=2cded5796f2faf5792dcc3b3779002af=1919655#post1919655>.
Older versions do not include such a "block". Also, I'm sure it would be
possible to spoof the date+time to the player if it was necessary to
avoid the time cut-off.

Users of permanent beta browsers such as Chrome and non-ESR Firefox may
well have been updated to a version that disallows any Flash version,
but that's a separate issue.

OP's problem appears to be that some issue with Flashpoint/Mac OS is
causing Flashpoint to use her latest and greatest "blocked" player
instead of it providing and enabling a version suitable for the game she
is trying to play.

True but not relevant to OP's problem which concerns SM in the context
of a game archive package that provides appropriate (and not blocked)

The first 2 console errors shown are not exceptional.

SM 2.53.5.1 is supposed to support Flash (and no other plugins) via
NPAPI. Perhaps the detection of older Flash versions isn't working properly?

The Flashpoint site says that Mac OS support is highly experimental. You

But these are not a good analogue for SeaMonkey 2.53. The codebase is (I

later versions. Hence, the interesting test is FF 52 or 60 (possibly 45
also). I assume the site used to work with those FF versions - does it
still?

As well as the older FF ESR versions as listed above, you could try SM
2.53.1 and then if that works, 2.53.2, 2.53.3, 2.53.4, 2.53.5. This
would help to identify what in the 4000+ changes to SM over that range
of versions might be causing it not to behave like 2.49.5.

What it is that isn't working is that left-click and hold on the map is
supposed to allow you to move the map around in the window to re-center
it on a location of interest.

I also found that neither hovering nor clicking the map pins did
anything, which I guess must be wrong.

How do you think the site owner should be able to determine what the
SeaMonkey developers changed between v2.49.5 and v2.53.5.1 to make the
browser incompatible with his site?

I am guessing that the site owner understands what the site is doing and
hence has some insight into what may be failing (to cause the left-click
selection to fail), given that left-click continues to work fine in
other sites including those with a draggable map. Perhaps there is some
test version of the site that would provide more detailed logging in the
browser. Perhaps there is some feature of the G Maps replacement that
conflicts with SM 2.53.5.1. Perhaps some 3rd party JS has a user-agent
test for SeaMonkey < 2.50 ... and so on.

Unfortunately this is the kind of compatibility hole that will occur
when the lunatics (the main browser makers, and G in particular) are
running the asylum with changing ("innovating") baselines instead of
properly versioned, independently managed, interface specifications.

messages:

  SunLayer.js:531:10

The message about GL_ARB_gpu_shader5 seems to be a red herring that
could be fixed by

The document declares the VML namespace which I thought was
unimplemented except in IE <=9, but presumably doesn't use it as it did
work, from the link above, until last month.

I think the site owner will be best placed to help.

No problem with saving tabs, but I find that if the automatically saved

Thank you, Dirk, your logic seems infallible!

I guess this means an addition to my UserChrome.js file, that addition
being everything from your "@namespace" to your "display: none;)" right??

The @namespace line would already be in the *userChrome.css* (in the
chrome profile subdirectory) if you had already edited it. You don't
need the @-moz-document line because putting the style in userChrome.css
means the same. You can check the -example files in the same directory
for usage (userChrome -> internal browser styles; userContent -> website
styles).

With StyleM, and its predecessors, the presence of the line
"@-moz-document url-prefix('chrome://')" identifies a user style
("affects the user interface"), vs "affects ".

Impacted function is Address Book \ Tools \ Export  and then csv for the
file type.

The first file created contains just the csv header row defining column
names.

The UI loops back to the file save as dialog box once you specify the
filename... and the second time you end up with the exported records.

However the UI loops yet again... at that point I get aggravated and
cancel out of the vicious loop.

Works OK for me, SM 2.53.1 Linux x86, for file types CSV (System
charset) and CSV (UTF-8) (which should be the same, anyway):

-   Window>Address Book

- select folder in left-hand pane

-   Tools>Export...

-   enter filename

-   Save.

Maybe you have an extension loaded that's affecting it? You could try
the operation with the Error Console (clear it first) to see if any
relevant messages appear.

What I did observe is that selecting address items in the right-hand
pane doesn't affect the exported list: you still get the whole folder. I
would probably have aimed for an option All|Only selected in that case.

This seems correct, because the website dit not test the UA string.
Anyway ... in what SM version "polyfill" will work ?

The next significant SM browser upgrade (possibly the last) is being

Shadow DOM (and Custom Elements) appeared in 63. Those would have to be

Tip: i try with a new profile on SM: same bad result

I had the same problem with another site that uses a recent version of
the XenForo forum software. It seems to be a SM (or at least Gecko) bug.

Work-around: add userCSS for the site to constrain the size of the
attachment list:

  .attachmentList {
max-height: 24ch;
overflow-y: scroll;
  }

The StyleM extension is an easy way to apply this.

Javascript (as opposed to Java) is natively supported by pretty much all
browsers, if that site thinks you don't have it then I see two
possibilities:

- You have turned it off (Preferences -> Advanced -> Scripts & Plugins)
- You have something like Noscript running and that has turned it off
for you, for this site.

Or the site tests for some JS primitive that SM doesn't implement.

Or the site doesn't recognise SM and proceeds on the assumption that it
doesn't implement the JS level that it thinks is needed.

SM 2.53.5 Linux x86 seems significantly more stable than previous
releases going back several years. A malloc() return being checked that
wasn't before?

Classic NoScript as used with SM has a policy function (ABE:
) which can be used to enable scripts
selectively; not yet implemented for the WebExtensions version.

For instance, if you don't globally enable www.google.com, many sites
that use that domain instead of recaptcha.net to test our knowledge of
US street furniture through JavaScript will fail to allow you to log in.
Using ABE you can selectively enable www.google.com for such sites.

Seems OK with SM 2.53.4 if only the domain itself is enabled for JS.

It also wants you to load a lot of 3rd party sites but almost all of
these are trackers that may offer little value to the user.

This is the only missing ES6 Array method (in SM 2.49, 2.53):

if (! Array.prototype.values) {
Array.prototype.values = function() {
return this[Symbol.iterator]();
};
};

With NoScript, I made the above the value of
noscript.surrogates._array_values.replacement (ie, in about:config) and
set noscript.surrogates._array_values.sources to @chat.mozilla.org.
Other UserJS solutions are available.

With this definition applied I was able to log into the site and access
the chatrooms, including #machinelearning:mozilla.org. I had to enable
JS for chat.mozilla.org and also auth.mozilla.auth0.com,
cdn.ss.mozilla.com, ems.element.io, mozilla.modular.im. I could also
have enabled vector.im and mozilla.org, but didn't need them.

The site may make use of WebRTC somehow but this wouldn't currently work
with SM because of <https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=956854>.

Seems to load OK with SM 2.53.4/Linux x86. Presumably whatever is needed
has been incorporated in the newer SM version, as the mozilla sites
seem, correctly, to use feature detection (as below) rather than the UA
string.

This page

lists the ES6 changes to Array, which look as if they would be easy to
implement as a JS polyfill that can be loaded in UserJS for the site,
and probably have been, and should have been included by the site devs.

If you don't want to upgrade yet, it is (unless things have changed
recently) possible to disable the new imgur interface by visiting

 https://imgur.com/beta/disable

Or, in some UserJS loaded before imgur.com:

var ResizeObserver = function (callback)  {

observable.el === el)) return;
this._observables.push( {

this.disconnect = function() {
this._observables = [];
};
this._check = function() {
const changedEntries = this._observables.filter((obj) => {
const currentHeight = obj.el.clientHeight;
const currentWidth = obj.el.clientWidth;
if (obj.size.height !== currentHeight ||
obj.size.width !== currentWidth) {
obj.size.height = currentHeight;
obj.size.width = currentWidth;
return true;
}
}).map((obj) => obj.el);

this._boundCheck();

and

general.useragent.override.ioof.com.au;Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1;
WOW64; rv:78.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/78.0

still fail to get me into the site. When I attempt to log in, I'm warned
that my SM might not be suitable but can click to accept the warning and
that brings up a blank screen with "Done" at the bottom left of my SM
screen.

Any further ideas??

The domain that I'm getting when I follow ioof.com.au -> Login -> IOOF
Online is login.portfolioonline.com.au (with SM 2.53.4 and accepting the
possible 'bad experience'). The other login option "Portfolio Online"
also uses portfolioonline.com.au. It made no difference whether
ioof.com.au is enabled for JS; even enabling the other domains used (3rd
party Google and Facebook JS) made no difference.

I reach usable username and password fields in both cases, the latter a
little more retro. At that point I would need login credentials.
Enabling JS for portfolioonline.com.au might also be necessary. I was
able to open the registration page for IOOF Online with usable fields.

I didn't need to spoof UA at any point but if you did need to do that
for this site you'd want to set

general.useragent.override.portfolioonline.com.au

Boringly, you may need to clear your cache.

Can't you just check the box that says "... my experience may be inferior"?

DNS names (ioof.com.au eg) are case-insensitive.

See eg here
