Well, find & replace did work with the previous build that I had

I tried a new profile, didn't change anything.

Try a new test profile. Also check if it is theme or add-on related.

Open the error console and see if you spot something when you press
ctrl-f or select the menu. For the menu to work you need to select
something.

If you have a reproducible test case with a new profile open a bug.
You can always open one but with exiting profiles and x add-ons in
them it will probably not be fixed if it can't be reproduced by a
dev immediately.

Not good, the composer becomes quite useless this way.

As I remember you need to go into your Yahoo email preferences to

But if you have decided to use their new web interface you got only a

With this situation, you cannot go into your Yahoo email preferences and

The only way is to close SM then use FireFox for going into your Yahoo

Close FireFox and start SM - then you can again access your Yahoo mail

I find the "Manage Bookmarks" option too cumbersome.
I experimented with an "export as HTML, edit HTML, import HTML"

Is there a newbie friendly tool to do a "backup as JSON, edit the

I've not done any significant coding since using dBaseII and 8080

As a power user of bookmarks since the old Netscape days, I was
intrigued to see a posting about them as we don't seem to see much
discussion about bookmarks.

We have similar history. I suspect that the reason for little discussion
of bookmarks is that such a good job originally. My standard for a good
UI is still Netscape.

However, from what you say, it's not entirely clear what the problem
is. For instance, you say you find "Manage Bookmarks" too cumbersome,
but what other way could there possibly be to organize your bookmarks?

Folders containing both other folders and quanta of information is fine
{e.g. FHS}.

I probably have more bookmarks and folders than you, and every so
often I open Manage Bookmarks and set about filing new bookmarks
withing my system of folders, creating new folders as necessary,
deleting bookmarks that I decide I no longer need, and so on.

You are organized. I'm currently *NOT* :<
A large portion of my folders have WHEN bookmarked rather than SUBJECT.

True,
you can export the bookmark file as HTML, but trying to edit that
would be vastly more difficult than the previous alternative, and
trying to edit the JSON file would, I think, be impossible.

I've a vague idea of how it could be done, but don't have enough
programing background to express it.

Perhaps you could post more details of what exactly your problem is in
organizing your bookmarks.

If someone could remind me of the command and syntax for displaying a
file directory structure/contents as ASCII line art I could display
display the organization of my home directory. I could then mangle the
display an analog of the disorganization of my bookmarks.

Thanks for reading.

Try this
1) Manage Bookmarks
2) Create a folder by the Subject name you want to put bookmarks in
3) Now drag & drop all the bookmark that apply to that subject
4) Repeat for each subject

Does SM not work on Windows 8 (desktop not Metro)? I need it to work

are POP

working on Windows 8.

As reported in other threads, yes, SM works in W8, no compatability
mode, no tweaks, nada. It works. As does Firefox. Haven't tested
Thunderbird but I couldn't care less.

I think it would be good to specify the type of hardware used. I think
there is going to be some confusion over the different types of Windows
8. Make sure people know it's not the tablet version.

Thank you for posting the info above.
I am still not able to download mail to Seamonkey unless I log out of

(I can always load email to the iPad with no logging in or out so I
figure it must be a Seamonkey Setting)

I have a Yahoo email (owned by ATT now):
Here are my settings verbatim except for bracketed items, some
settings recently adjusted by the ATT tech:

Thanks for any ideas

Let's be a little clear here

I have both a Yahoo SBCGlobal e-mail account
when I signed up with SBC they gave me the option to combine accounts, I
choose not to.

Both e-mail are run by Yahoo but they are different.

Also I think people have the history of who brought who wrong, Yahoo is
still an independent company listed on the stock market.

SBC brought ATT and kept the ATT name for it's world wide name recognition

I don't use SeaMonkey mail, but did you set up the SMTP server in SeaMonkey?

Also unless you are paying for your Yahoo account you don't have POP3
access, the FREE yahoo e-mail doesn't included POP3.

If you have a SBC e-mail account it includes POP3.

Insert the following in file user.js in your profile:

This causes the export to occur when SeaMonkey terminates. Don't forget

Alternatively, use about:config to set the preference variable

However, I prefer using the user.js file so that I can comments to
annotate why I changed a setting. If you do this, it will help you to

I have had mine set to true for a long time, but I can't find the

Found the answer in a FireFox question

If you do not specify a folder or file name via the
browser.bookmarks.file pref then the bookmarks are stored as
bookmarks.html in the Firefox Profile Folder

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

SeaMonkey deafault send from address

2012-02-10 Thread Jim Dell

Have a minor issue I would like to resolve if possible.

I am using Windows 7 64 bit with SeaMonkey 2.7 and MS Outlook 2003 as my
default e-mail client, which I want to keep as default.

When clicking on a web link send e-mail, SeaMonkey pops up the composer
window which is okay. The problem is I have several e-mail addresses
because of different news group servers I use and I always need to click
the down arrow in the from box to use the one I have the smtp server set
to. How can I make that e-mail address be the default and the first one
listed for SeaMonkey without messing up my Outlook client?

Silent in what way?

If you expect to use it for email, it can't be silent; it needs your
input for all the mail server/account information. Please state your
reason for a silent install - which I assume you mean to be just
click once on the .EXE file.

If you only want a browser, get Firefox instead.

... ok, i want both. i want to import an empty sm just so it will
be on
her system.
then we can import everything she already on her Live account.

Oh right. You're the one who wants to send it to a friend who can't do
it herself. Well, it won't work... I thought we had determined that you
can't do what you want to do, from afar. Unless ... you set up a Remote
Desktop and *you* log in to her computer and do it for her. Or visit
her
and sit at her keyboard. Or call a neighborhood teenager to do it.

Didn't we cover this? My old memory seems to think so.

... put it this way: i want to install an ampty sm foe her THEN i walk
talk
her threw importing her setting from LICE.

We did this too. Send her this link. Tell her to click the download link
and save the file to her desktop. Double-click the file. You walktalk
from there.

http://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/

Better yet, get the teenager. (What is LICE?)

lice == live (typo) i've tried. she's only 12.

look:
i am in a handicap home. her mum asked me to help her. there is a
stoopid rule here that [atient can't go to staffs houses. the boss
scott.kruc...@thementornetwork.com won't bend that and let me help.
write him if you like.

Down load something like CrossLoop, install it on your PC, skip the part
about signing up for an account, write down the steps you used to
install it. Then call her (or her mum) on the phone and lead her thru
installing it on her PC. Then run it on both PCs, you on the access tab
and she on the share tab. Have her give you the information from that
screen, enter it on you screen click on connect. Now you will be able
to see her screen and install it yourself from your PC. It's called
remote control. The access code changes every time you use it. I do it
all the time helping people. But they need high speed internet access
for it to work probably.

Many should, there could still be the random strangler, I have not
tested Comcast.

Can I go from Mozilla 1.7 to Seamonkey 2.4 directly?

That is quite a big leap, I would recommend the following progression:

Download/Install, and do a First run of (in this order):
SeaMonkey 1.1.19 (http://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/1.1.19)
SeaMonkey 2.0.14 (http://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/2.0.14)
SeaMonkey 2.4 (http://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/2.4)

You can go from 2.0.14 straight to 2.4 if you do a Help-Check for Updates.

But running each interim version once is recommended if you value your
current data. If you are happy with recreating [most] relevant
settings/setups you can of course go straight to 2.4.

Justin,
I think we need to define support. Just as many ISPs didn't support
Netscape when you called their support line, it stilled worked. Just
don't call their support line.

Just like calling Microsoft for Word Perfect questions, it's not their
product so they don't support it.

Upgrading also gets the user off a security-vulnerable release.

It also gets them on our latest, current, stable, build.

Many people don't know about the new releases, because they don't read

My cousin, for example, who I converted to SeaMonkey several years ago

Thanks David.. but
Adding quotes around the %1 does not make it work.. (C:\Program

I changed my default browser to Firefox and the internet shortcuts
work just fine. Strangely the data in the Tools Folder options \\Edit
has not changed, it still shows SeaMonkey and the path. When I change to
IE as my default browser it changes (and shortcuts work). Changing back
to SeaMonkey as the default writes the correct path back but sadly does
not work.

Any more ideas??
Create a new icon by finding SeaMonkey in your start programs menu and
right clicking on it and then using the Sendto item select create
