Re: Crashes (W10 pro, 64b, desktop)
Ken Rudolph wrote: SM 2.46 (Win-10) has developed the annoying habit of crashing, and recently way too often. I immediately get the window that allows SM to restore all tabs and windows; but when I do entries in the process of being written have disappeared. This is especially annoying in Composer when I'm editing a web site with the HTML composer included with SeaMonkey. In fact it is more than annoying; it's something that I have to cope with ASAP (yes, frequent saving does help a bit; but if I forget it is a disaster.) So, the question: is there a stand-alone Mozilla web site composing app available that wouldn't be subject to a SM crash? It would be nice if such a thing existed in Firefox or Thunderbird, or as a separate program. After almost 20 years of using Netscape and SeaMonkey to edit my web site I can't imagine using another program; but if Mozilla doesn't have one, can somebody suggest a similar "free" HTML editing program that would work just as efficiently? Thanks much. I, too, have a great deal of crashes over the last month or so. Thought it was just me. It happens when at no particular website, just determines it is time to crash and does so... Can be very annoying if trying to complete a transaction or in the middle of something for a client. Suggestions?? That usually happens when the mail server rejects the login. Usually there would be a bit more after that, saying what the mail server's response was (some sort of failure message, e.g. incorrect username or password). If that's really all there is, it looks like the mail server is rejecting the login but not providing a message to say what the problem is - which confusingly makes the message appear to be a simple statement that the server did respond. I have no challenges on my Vista and XP machines. Be aware that Windows XP support ended a few years ago, so it has not been receiving updates since then and any security issues discovered with it will not be fixed. Windows Vista support ends on 11 April this year, after which it will not receive updates either. Any ideas or suggestions to consider? Check that you've entered the username and password correctly. You may have mistyped one or other. Usernames for email servers sometimes need to include the whole email address (including the part after the @), and sometimes only the part before the @ - so make sure you've got that right (compare with the machines which do work). Also make sure you've got the right settings for connection security and authentication method (again, you should be able to compare the settings with your other machines which do work). Mark Thank you for your reply and thoughts You are correct, there is a '+' (without quotes) which appears as the message, not sure how I missed it... How many verizon accounts did you originally have? If only one then I would say that your configuration got corrupted and created a new server folder incoming.verizon-1.net, but incoming.verizon.net was your original mail. In about:config if you search on verizon you can confirm this. You will get mail.server.* and associated mail.identity.* settings. Now comes couple of IMPORTANT questions. It looks like currently your version account points to the incoming.verizon-1.net folder. Do you have SOME new mail in the account and just missing old? ### If YES: ### Then with SeaMonkey not running you can copy mail over this way: copy incoming.verizon.net\Inbox incoming.verizon-1.net\Old-Inbox copy incoming.verizon.net\Sent incoming.verizon-1.net\Old-Sent If you have archives then: copy incoming.verizon.net\Archives.sbd incoming.verizon-1.net\Old-Archives.sbd Start SeaMonkey and and you will now see new Old-* mail folders in that account. You can drag from these to the correct mail folders, i.e., messages from Old-Inbox to Inbox to restore your missing messages. When done, just delete the Old-* mail folders. ### If NO: ### Then all you have to do is correct the pointer to the one with mail. In SeaMonkey "Edit > Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings" Select the Verizon account and go to "Server Settings > Local directory:" and change the path from "...\incoming.verizon-1.net" to the original with mail "...\incoming.verizon.net" ## IMPORTANT ## In an abundance of caution, I would backup your profile BEFORE fooling with it. Simply making a copy of the whole profile would work. WinKey+R %APPDATA%\Mozilla\SeaMonkey\Profiles and copy the profile folder to your desktop would a simple and effective backup. Take care, Jonathan --- LITTLE WORKS STUDIO http://www.LittleWorksStudio.com Hello all, I wanted to get back with an update.. Hello all, I Am not able to get SM to open at all, only the crash reporter opens and opens repeatedly when clicking the box concerning reopening or closing SM. Using on my desktop W 8.1 machine. Below is what was sent to SM about the crash, I trust one of the Gurus can interpret and advise. Two Challenges....!
Hello all, I Am having two (2) major challenges (so I believe)on my desktop w/windows 8.1, SM 2.31... The first upon trying to move my SM roaming profile to a different drive, and set up new a new profile, SM does not recognize the moved files at all and shuts down. What is it I need to do to achieve this successfully (move from c: to e:)? The second challenge is, I do not remember which files I need to delete in order to save some space on my HD until I Am able to successfully get the files moved to another drive (from c: to e:). SM files are taking up 50g on my 128g drive... I will be installing a larger drive as this overload is crippling my system overall. The application is only 76*MB* and my profile with 3 pop accounts that I have migrated since the 90's and Netscape Communicator is 5GB. Maybe you need to empty your trash and junk folder! -- Take care, Jonathan --- LITTLE WORKS STUDIO http://www.LittleWorksStudio.com Jonathan, It is my profile which is that large. Which is perplexing, but this has happened before. Thank you. SamuelS ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey
