(strange but true) GW It's interesting that the problem now seems to be just with this one Folder...I've just had it happen again, and had to close and re-open SM after attempting to drag a post into it. And even more interesting is that upon restart of SM I can see that the task of dragging the post into the Folder was completed even though Mail was still hung/in wait after the drag and wouldn't wake up. There are 1459 items in this Folder...I have another one that is bigger, and after trying to drag something into it, this happens with that one as well - now I've got the blue-ball again... ...after I re-launch, I'll try it with a smaller one and see what happens. Pretty sure now it's not connected to Folders being Compacted. If I want to keep an NG post I always forward it to myself via email. That way my other machines get a copy when I check mail on them.. GW I use drag and drop for about everything I can - I've been dragging NG posts to Folders far longer than I've been dragging and dropping URLs into the Bookmarks Sidebar to save them. But I do like your approach for dealing with multiple machines! I always took it to mean that if SM itself stopped to think, I get the SM working/thinking symboland if it stops too long, I get the OS thinking/working symbol. It's usually when I click to delete a god-awful huge HTML heavy message from someone, and then click to switch to a different account .5 seconds later. SM says, oh, waitwhat?Oh, OK SM has always taken a long time to delete large HTML heavy messages, IDK why, and I have no basis for comparison. GW So far I've only noticed it hanging on dragging a NG post to a Folder...and it never recovers, but I can continue to use the Browser and click around Mail - that's the really odd thing. Closing Mail doesn't clear it either - I have to close the session and re-open SM. I don't really do/see HTML Mail, so I've got nothing to compare to on that score...but I do subscribe to a binary group of 3D artists, so I'll have to look at what happens when I try and display a particularly large post - those are generally what I File and I haven't had any trouble with those...just ones from my Crohn's NG which are all text, some converted from HTML probably - so maybe it's something with that group that is the problem? And, frankly, this busy cursor does not indicate any problem whatsoever. It's just saying, hey, I'm busy doing stuff. The old black-and-white cursor was so unobtrusive that I can easily imagine most users not seeing it at all.
