R: [swinog] Umstellung ADSL-Geschwindigkeit = Probleme mit ISDN-Splitter
As you can see, the speed upgrade doesn't actually *break* the filter/splitter. They just *assume* that on some lines, where the quality already was marginal before upgrading, it doesn't work anymore because the filter's/splitter's attenuation is too high. This is very different from saying that a passive network element breaks because of a software upgrade. Probably these lines would work if they were downgraded to 600/100 again. Furthermore, I don't think it's a good idea to post BBCS information which were released to ISPs only to a public mailing list. -Manuel -Messaggio originale- Da: Zalaba, Mike [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Inviato: mercoledì, 11. febbraio 2004 08:31 A: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Oggetto: [swinog] Umstellung ADSL-Geschwindigkeit = Probleme mit ISDN-Splitter Swisscom bestätigt Probleme mit Splittern und Microfiltern bei Speed-Update: ___ Ticinocom SA - Via dei Pioppi 10 - 6616 Losone Tel 0844 007070 - Fax 0844 007071 http://www.ticinocom.com -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] Maillist-Archive: http://www.mail-archive.com/swinog%40swinog.ch/

And again in English please... Anyway I can hardly believe that a speed upgrade, which is basically reprogramming a DSLAM card, can generate a power surge and damage a splitter. ___ Ticinocom SA - Via dei Pioppi 10 - 6616 Losone Tel 0844 007070 - Fax 0844 007071 http://www.ticinocom.com -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] Maillist-Archive: http://www.mail-archive.com/swinog%40swinog.ch/

[swinog] ADSL L2TP termination - NSE-1 or NPE-400 on Cisco 720x?
Hi everyone, has anyone had experience with both the NSE-1 and the NPE-400 for ADSL L2TP termination (ie. to act as an LNS)? We have to perform an upgrade but I'm not sure which one is better. The NSE-1 has only 256 MB RAM, while the NPE-400 can be upgraded to 512 MB. The NSE-1 has only 263 MHz, but it seems to specifically accelerate the L2TP protocol. The NPE-400 has a 350 MHz processor, but provides no acceleration. What do you think is the best choice for an LNS application on Swisscom's ADSL network? I think an NPE-G1 would be even better, but there are very long shipping times at the moment (6 weeks). regards Manuel ___ Ticinocom SA - Via dei Pioppi 10 - 6616 Losone Tel 0844 007070 - Fax 0844 007071 http://www.ticinocom.com -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] Maillist-Archive: http://www.mail-archive.com/swinog%40swinog.ch/

Hello everyone, we have to order a 45 Mbit/s point-to-point leased line (CLN) from Swisscom. Swisscom is asking us if we want electrical or optical interfaces. What do you recommend? In either case, what's the exact Cisco interface model number (both eletrical and optical) for 7206 routers? I think optical is better (provided that a fiber installation is already available on-site) because Swisscom talks about a 10dB attenuation we have to buy from a third-party provider in order to connect the coax cables... [swinog] LNS with IOS 12.3.1a - warning!
Just a little follow-up to the previous thread regarding ADSL tunnels down: IOS 12.3.1a seems to have a bug. Here the details: in our setup (IOS 12.3.1a terminating ADSL L2TP tunnels, with 2 loopback interfaces), after an unspecified period of time, the loopback interfaces seem to forget their IP address. After that, in show running you only see the following: interface Loopback0 ! interface Loopback1 ! (notice that interface Loopback1 is aligned as if it were a sub-configuration command of interface Loopback1). If you issue show int lo0 (or lo1) the IP address is still there, though. It's only lost in the configuration. If you try to re-enter the IP address, it still doesn't show up. If for some reason you execute a write mem at this point, the configuration is saved without loopbacks, and after a reload, the LNS will stop working. For this reason, we've reverted back to IOS 12.2(11)T9. I hope this can help someone. regards -Manuel -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] Maillist-Archive: http://www.mail-archive.com/swinog%40swinog.ch/

According to the UVEK Dept, they (the UVEK dept) don't have the authority to tell ISPs to block websites. They can only order traffic monitoring. I was told to call a lawyer at the BAKOM, which is the only authority in this matter, because blocking a website is a concept defined in the telecommunications law. So I called BAKOM. There I was told that they doubt that it makes sense to block a website for futile reasons like personal offenses, but since it's a judge's order, it's better to obey (a judge actually *can* legally order to block a website!). Free tip from BAKOM: just block the website for 2-3 weeks, write this in a letter to Judge Dessaux, then un-block the website after that period has passed. If no further communication is received from the above mentioned judge, the matter can be considered closed. Otherwise we'd have to discuss further.
