[talkbws] Script not connecting to Meditech
I have a weird issue. I have been running a script on a Server 2008r2 for 2 years. The script runs about 8 individual scripts controlled by the scheduler. Well my 24 hour window to process all of the files was taking 30+hours. I have a new server now that use to run just 2 of the scripts. The scripts get to the connect and stalls since Meditech did not connect. I can stop the script and restart it (window in now visible) and they run fine. Any ideas? This is the first part of the script: Script:ACCTACTV02E_COMMENTS Step|Start Script| Rule||Connect to Application f(rloop) = 0 f(fdate) = format(date, mmdd) f(norec) = N f(filexist) = Share(WaitSpeed) = 0.2 Step|Connect to Application| Rule||Login and Navigate to Anchor Screen Connect MeditechNUI C:\Program Files (x86)\MEDITECH\Workstation3.x\T.exe, stMeditechNUIEx Step|Login and Navigate to Anchor Screen| Rule|MIS Directories@1,18@1,35| Enter 1 Rule|MEDITECH MIS System@1,1@1,22| Enter SMY Rule|Medical Information Technology, Inc.@2,23@7,17User ID| Thanks, Vicki Beel AIS-West Region-Tucson Carondelet Health Network - Information Services Phone: (520) 770-6499 vb...@carondelet.orgmailto:vb...@carondelet.org ♥ Carondelet. RE:[talkbws] Excel behavior that can impact stored data inside a .BDS file
Along a similar note, I've noticed that if you have a spreadsheet opened in Datastation, and you open the same file, even externally to the scripting pc, it will cause issues with your Datastation connection to the file. Not sure if it kills the connection or resets your pointer in the file or what, but script will not work until you close the DS connection and reopen, and navigate back to your location. Recommend copying the file to another location and opening it on another pc to prevent this if you need to view the contents of the file while scripting it. From: talk@bossoft.com [mailto:talk@bossoft.com] Sent: Wednesday, May 21, 2014 7:58 AM To: talk@bossoft.com Subject: [talkbws] Excel behavior that can impact stored data inside a .BDS file Good morning all, I recently discovered this behavior in Excel. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/826741 This has some ramifications for .BDS files (or anything else that looks at the modified date of an .XLS Excel file - I haven't seen the behavior with .XLSX files) If you open a .XLS manually with Excel 2007+, then very quickly - close it and then open the file with the DataStation, there is a good chance BWS will see the temporary filetime, rightfully think that it is a new file and clear the .BDS file. This isn't a bug in the DataStation. It is working the way it should. But, basically this means, to make sure this Excel behavior doesn't cause you grief... If you have an Excel file that you ran an automation against, it wrote to D(Status) etc., and you stopped it, or need to do further processing. Do not open that spreadsheet in Excel until you're done with the D(Status) data. [talkbws] C# and BWS
Hi, Since there were a few specific questions, I figured it worth sending out some more general information about C#. First, it is worth dispelling any misunderstandings regarding the future of VBA lest that be driving a move to C#. Here is a link / quote from Microsoft: (note the below link is well worth a visit - lots of good information / examples there!) http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/office/ff688774.aspx -Which technology―VBA macros, managed add-ins built with Visual Studio, or apps for Office―is the best choice for your solution? It's important to note that all three technologies will be supported in the foreseeable future. This means that if you have an existing VBA project that you are satisfied with, you can be confident your investment is safe. For stand-alone automations, we nearly always recommend using Boston WorkStation's built in VBA environment due to the numerous productivity /portability benefits. There isn't much in the way of magic to calling BWS within C#. BWS in that world is simply a set of COM objects (I am generalizing here blurring Active X and COM together) , and Visual Studio in general fully supports the use of COM. In our world, COM is heavily used by nearly all major EMR's, and a large portion of Microsoft's software stack as well. I won't go into tremendous practical C# usage detail here because there is a section of our documentation that describes which references and classes to use - (Developing with Other Languages). We don't go into detail regarding C# syntax for calling our methods etc. as there is nothing intrinsically different syntax wise to call BWS class methods etc. vs non BWS ones. We are assuming prior knowledge of C# - objects are objects as they say... There are only two BWS specific gotcha's - The Connect command's enumerations are stored in a separate library, you can use ConnectEX to see them in intellisense. And the Smart().method convention syntax is not supported by .NET (see above doc section for details here). C# syntax has been described to look very much like C or Java. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C_Sharp_syntax http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/z1zx9t92.aspx As someone with no formal programming training, no experience in Java, and only very recently having done anything in C, I find C# syntax challenging to read, so I got a chuckle out of Microsoft's statement that C# is simple and easy to learn. I found VBA to have a gentler learning curve and the examples online were far easier to understand. Regards, Thom Thom C. Blackwell, VP Technical Services Boston Software Systems, Inc. RE:[talkbws] C# and BWS
Great information Thom. Thanks a bunch! Jennifer Shwajlyk Clinical Programmer Analyst BS, RN (518)775-4185 jshwaj...@nlh.orgmailto:jshwaj...@nlh.org From: talk@bossoft.com [mailto:talk@bossoft.com] Sent: Wednesday, May 14, 2014 2:04 PM To: talk@bossoft.com Subject: [talkbws] C# and BWS Hi, Since there were a few specific questions, I figured it worth sending out some more general information about C#. I'd recommend Process.Start actually - you will give you more functionality since you can track the resulting process object Are other commands ok? Can BWS run by itself and connect to something? Many BWS methods have optional parameters. What version of Visual Studio are you using? I know that before Visual Studio 10, it did not allow leaving optional parameters empty. [talkbws] Method '~' of object '~' failed
I'm attempting to run various BWS scripts under Windows scheduler, and they are getting this error (Method '~' of object '~' failed) as soon as they start. I'm able to run the scripts manually just fine. This is on Server 2008 R2. The schedule settings I have: Program: C:\BSS70\Bss80.exe Add arguments: C:\BWS_Scripts\script1.bws /r Main /t Start in: C:\BWS_Scripts Run with highest privileges I don't see any similarities between the scripts and most of them are having this issue. RE:[talkbws] Method '~' of object '~' failed
If the script is trying to open a program that cannot run in a locked mode, that might be causing the error. When you are manually running it is not locked. On our server, there is someone logged in, but we disconnect, which locks it. Programs that are opened by the scripts can run locked, so we have no problem. The other thing we have done is reboot the server if the problem is intermittent and it has not been restarted for a while. [talkbws] How are you connecting to BWS servers?
Hi everyone, I've been using BWS for 6+ years and I have 8 boxes. I recently migrated to Server 2008 (64 bit) machines and have been using Tight VNC to remote into each box. I've noticed the remote connection is now lagging and over the past month some scripts just don't run anymore. Scripts that should take 20 mins to run are now showing as 7 seconds in the log file and they aren't hitting the error routine. Anyone else have any issues on Server 2008 or can suggest another remote software to use? Thom, This may be a good question for you. I have a script that just stopped working last week. I tried everything and it works perfectly every time I run it manually. It is scheduled to run every morning at 5:30 AM. It fires correctly, but the script doesn't appear to be going through the steps. I saw this one other time about a month ago and I just moved that script to a different box and it works fine there. Now I'm seeing it on another script. RE:[talkbws] Copy Screen - #safe#
The question of the type of file really is based on what needs to be stored. Excel is great for storing discrete data elements; individual fields captured from the screen. It would do a terrible job if the need is to simply store an entire glob of all text captured from the screen. A text file won't do as good a job of storing discrete data elements as Excel, because you'd need to create the concept of fields using delimiters. But if the need is an entire glob of a screen, it's very easy to do: Open MyFile for output as #1 (or for Append depending on need) Print #1, View() Close #1 Could also capture a visual using: Screenshot MyScreen.bmp Certainly possible to use the same document - either to overwrite or append. [talkbws] BWS Script - Double Click Problem
Hi: I'm having a problem that's been frustrating, and I was wondering if any of you had any suggestions. I have the following code: Key @_CLICK:Process Account I set a breakpoint on that line, and directly after that line. This is what I'm getting: - About half the time it clicks on Process Account twice (a window open opens, goes back to the first screen, clicks on it again and a second window opens) - About half the time it clicks on Print Receipt twice (a window open opens, goes back to the first screen, clicks on it again and a second window opens. This doesn't make any sense to me because it's not even a button close to Process Account) - The rest of the time the click didn't work I also tried the code: Click Process Account And the same results happened. I'm curious if any of you have had any similar problems, if you were able to resolve them, and how you did so.. Thanks. RE:[talkbws] Newbie Question
Mike, First of all welcome. And if any of the below is unclear please feel free to contact Support - (866) 653-5105 ex1. They will be happy to help you! You should be able to easily parse out just the detail record using a combination of the DataStation and Rules. I am trying to be reasonably descriptive so it probably sounds harder than it really is. Here goes. Open your file using the Delimited option - from the sounds of it, you would not check the first row has field labels option. Your script will move through the file using 3 steps Evaluate Status Evaluate Record Next Record I am describing steps using this convention Condition - Action - Goto NA means no Action Evaluate Status will allow you to determine if a record has been processed before (if you need to stop/restart the script) and determines when you're at the end of the file Not EOF and D(Status)= -NA - Goto Evaluate Record Not EOF and D(Status) -NA - Goto Next Record EOF - NA - Goto Logout Evaluate Record The idea is in this step you will have 3 rules - each with Goto's, 2 going to a step that gets another record, 1 that does the data entry D(1)=Whatever your header id looks like - D(Status)=Skip - Goto Next Record D(1)=Whatever your trailer id looks like D(Status)=Skip - Goto Next Record Always - NA - Goto Enter Record 'you will D(Status) appropriately when you successfully save the record, or if there was an error The placement of the Always is critical - it must be the last one in the step Next Record Always - D.Next_ - Goto Evaluate Status To Schedule a script to run twice a week, select View -Scheduler- add your script, set it's interval to be Daily, and uncheck the days of the week it should not run, and set the time of day you want it to run. Then and this is important. BWS MUST be running with that project open on the PC and the PC needs to be in an interactive state - meaning you could sit in front of the PC to do the job the script is doing. One approach (of many) is to put a shortcut to the project file in the Startup folder of the PC. Hope this helps! Regards, Thom Thom C. Blackwell, VP Technical Services Boston Software Systems, Inc. [talkbws] Scheduling question....
Good afternoon: We're a C/S site running 5.66 and I've got a BAR related script that I need to set on a different kind of schedule. I'm going to be posting payments from one of our bad debt vendors into a BAR batch but the hiccup is they run their processes on the first business day of each month and will provide me the input file on the second business day of each month. Just wondering if anyone has run up against this type of need and how you ultimately handled it? I guess I could set the script to run the first 7 days of each month and just drop out if the input file is not there but hoping to be able to create a more elegant solution if there's one to be had? Thomas, Yes you can - however filling in the captcha part would have to be done by a person, alas that's what they are there to do. RE:[talkbws] Datastation Record Navigation
For what you are describing, yes it does since you're jumping backwards. If I was writing something that needed to process something like what you describe, I'd store the fields in variables as opposed to jumping back and forth - especially if this was time sensitive thing - e.g. needed maximum speed. [talkbws] Meditech Text Field
Hi, I'm having an issue that probably has a simple fix, but I haven't figured it out yet. I'm trying to update Patient Instructions in the Enter/Edit Appointment Type Dictionary in Meditech Scheduling. This is a free text field that can be quite long. Normally, when I tab into a Meditech field, the data currently there is highlighted, and I can just send data that overwrites it (or I can send the backspace key to delete it). However, in this field, the data isn't highlighted. Is there a command I can send to highlight the data of this free text so I can quickly delete it-or better yet, a command that will simply delete the text in this field? If I don't delete it, BWS just adds the data into the field with the rest of the data. By the way, in this field, (just using the keyboard and not BWS), cntrl-A doesn't select the data; therefore, I can't send a cntrl-A with BWS to select all data. To do this manually, I have to do a ctrl-shift-end to highlight the data from the first character to the last character and then press delete. However, with BWS, I haven't been able to figure a way to send ctrl-shift-end. No, the F10 doesn't help, and I have not been able to find a delete command that will delete the field (or even one of the many lines). I can send the delete key to delete one character at the time, so I guess I could put it in a loop and delete until there is nothing left to delete, but I prefer not to do that unless I don't have another option. RE:[talkbws] Meditech Text Field
If this is a multi-line field you could use a Down and F10 loop to clear all data. Once all data is cleared the cursor will remain on the same row/column when you use down arrow. It may not be the fastest way to clear data, but for me, it's the easiest to check if the field is indeed empty. From: talk@bossoft.com [mailto:talk@bossoft.com] Sent: Tuesday, November 26, 2013 12:06 PM To: talk@bossoft.com Subject: [talkbws] PC Screen Savers and scripting Our Tech department is reviewing security settings and asking me for clarifications on why our scripting PCs have the screen savers turned off. Is it still necessary to turn off screen savers to keep the desktop active and the script running? Are there other solutions to securing a PC that is in a semi-public location, without stopping the script? Thanks, I think you might be right on. Any ideas on how to resolve this or is the best way to restart the computer? It has Windows XP on it so I would imagine that upgrading to Windows 7 or to a newer server OS would probably help resolve the problem. It's usually the fault of the owning application, and java applications, in my experience, are the worst. They rely on the GC to manage memory, and this usually causes memory leaks in the application, it's not very robust. Java is the worst thing to ever happen to the IT world, for many reasons. RE:[talkbws] Unprotect VBA Project
I suspect that when you now open that project , it looks like most of the toolbars are gone in BWS? This means it has toggled into Runtime mode First thing to do is turn off Runtime mode - you do this by clicking Runtime Mode menu dropdown, then clicking the Runtime Icon (it's a toggle). Then you can go into VBA and it will ask you for the password. BWS has a feature that uses the same locking you did but is more convenient. Right click in the toolbars area in BWS and add the Security Toolbar Fill in the dialog box with the desired password Toggle BWS into Runtime mode from the Options menu From then on, you need to use the password to toggle BWS into developer mode. RE:[talkbws] #safe# Auto Run Scripts
I normally use the scheduler, but if you search the help for Calling One Rules Script from Another Rules Script it lays out the plan for doing this. I have one script that needed to pass values to two other scripts, so I followed those directions to have one script fire off a second script, return to the first script, and fire off a third one. RE:[talkbws] #safe# Auto Run Scripts
Call the scripts from a batch file, when one finishes, the other one should start automatically, as long as you don't use a Start or Run command to launch the script. I have batches set up to email once the bws script completes, so I know this works. [talkbws] Meditech - DOWNLOAD and 'Save As' window
I remember this being asked a long time ago and I've searched through my archive emails and I didn't find a solution... Has anyone figured out how to work around the Meditech DOWNLOAD feature and the 'Save As' window that pops-up during the DOWNLOAD function? I have code that works perfect when I run it while logged into our Virtual Server. But as soon as get out of the VM (I don't log out), the code bombs. Probably has something to do with the fact with the VM 'locking down' when you close the VM window. For security purposes, I'm pretty sure our ITS won't allow the an option of leaving the VM server unprotected when we are not connected to it, so I was wondering if anyone else had a good trick or solution. Any help is greatly appreciated. [talkbws] Scripting in Meditech POM
I'm attempting to create a script using the Meditech 5.66 POM module for our Education Department. When accessing Order Sets, the groups, such as + Emergency Room, + Laboratory, and + Medications are seen in the Application Viewer, but are not clickable. The application allows one to click on the words and the group expands to show the individual orders; however, when scripting the clicks have no affect. Any suggestions? Thanks Jesus. Code runs great when I am in the machine and watching it. It is when we close out the VM session and the scripts run per the scheduler, is when we hit the wall. I'll verify some of the screen saver settings, power settings and locking settings (or confirm with our ITS if was can have it not lock up). Thanks for the input! RE:[talkbws] #safe# Scripts Not Running
In theory, a virtual machine is identical to a physical pc, so there's no need to do anything specific from physical to virtual. What you are describing sounds like the pc is in a non-interactive state. Accessing a PC using Remote Desktop then leaving is a classic way to putting the pc in a non-interactive state. Logging off too would do the same thing. I'd be looking at something along those lines. Thom C. Blackwell, VP Technical Services Boston Software Systems, Inc.
