If v f o has not made an anouncement about doing away with window-eyes.
Then why are people saying it's dead? Should we not wait for word from
them instead of all this speculation?

I mean we really don't know.

2017-05-10 Thread Vaughan Dodd via Talk
Might be: happy to be corrected. However - I haven't seen VFO discredit it.

What I think we have to accept is that VFO is unlikely to use this list as part
of the distribution of details regarding Window-eyes. So: we need to keep
watching the VFO site, set up the FS casts for automatically podcast downloads
and all of us get on with making the choices we need to make.

Original message:

Hi:

George wants to completely silence speech. There is an undefined WE
hotkey for this, which I directed him to (pardon the dangling participle).

Also, the way WE seems to work on my system, it intercepts keystrokes
before the Intel display driver. There were older versions of WE that
didn’t intercept keystrokes first, but, they fixed this a while back.
However, there have been times when something didn’t work correctly, so
disabling these hotkeys in the Intel graphics options can still be a
good idea. After all, how many of us blinks need or want to flip the
screen. Good to disconcert a few sightlings, perhaps.

sure there is. use the w e hot keys.

this would depend on if you are useing a desktop or laptop keyboard layout.

but the first thing to check is see if you have a intel display card from the

windows control panel because w e and the intel use the same keys to flip the

screen in landscape or portrit mode.

you have to turn the hot keys off in control panel/display.

then you can use the w e hot keys

i have a desktop and the keys are control alt and the 4 pack keys up,down, left

and right keys.

with these you can turn the w e volume up or down.

rate, tone, etc. nothing will be changed unless you save your settings. so

don't worry if you get the voice settings messed up.

I don't think so Georges, assuming you want to be using your speakers
for something else while you're listening to your speech on headphones.
If you don't want to be able to route something through the speakers,
while you're listening to your speech through headphones, then inserting
your headphone jack will probably mute the speakers anyway.

Re: Window-Eyes!

2017-05-10 Thread Jim via Talk
Good Point! I seriously believe that all these folks that are
supposedly touting the end of Window-Eyes should think about that next
time they quote someone's "blog" or some other supposedly reliable
source. I have no idea on the exact number of Window-Eyes users but I
strongly suspect that it is quite high. How does it compare to the
number of JFW users-I have absolutely no idea. But there is still a
very large number of Window_Eyes users that would be left to hang out
and dry if VFO suddenly discontinued production of Window-Eyes. Keep
this in mind when you read the multiple posts about Window-Eyes demise.
Have a Good 1! de

Re: Mute/Unmute Synthesizer

2017-05-10 Thread Chris G via Talk
If you have a USB headset you can tell Window-eyes to put the speech
through the USB headset.
Just make sure to set your internal card as the default card, this way
your sounds will play on the computer and your speech will play through
the USB headset.

I don't think so Georges, assuming you want to be using your speakers
for something else while you're listening to your speech on headphones.
If you don't want to be able to route something through the speakers,
while you're listening to your speech through headphones, then inserting
your headphone jack will probably mute the speakers anyway.

What will kill Window-eyes is the fear of it being discontinued so

RE: Mute/Unmute Synthesizer

2017-05-10 Thread Joseph Norton via Talk
Hi:

George wants to completely silence speech. There is an undefined WE hotkey for
this, which I directed him to (pardon the dangling participle).

Also, the way WE seems to work on my system, it intercepts keystrokes before
the Intel display driver. There were older versions of WE that didn’t
intercept keystrokes first, but, they fixed this a while back. However, there
have been times when something didn’t work correctly, so disabling these
hotkeys in the Intel graphics options can still be a good idea. After all, how
many of us blinks need or want to flip the screen. Good to disconcert a few
sightlings, perhaps.

sure there is. use the w e hot keys.
this would depend on if you are useing a desktop or laptop keyboard layout.
but the first thing to check is see if you have a intel display card from the
windows control panel because w e and the intel use the same keys to flip the
screen in landscape or portrit mode.
you have to turn the hot keys off in control panel/display.
then you can use the w e hot keys
i have a desktop and the keys are control alt and the 4 pack keys up,down, left
and right keys.
with these you can turn the w e volume up or down.
rate, tone, etc. nothing will be changed unless you save your settings. so
don't worry if you get the voice settings messed up.

RE: Mute/Unmute Synthesizer

2017-05-10 Thread Joseph Norton via Talk
Hi:

There is, indeed, a way to do what you ask, if I understand correctly.

There is an undefined hotkey called “Toggle All Voices” which you can define.
Once you define this key, it will disable speech with one press and re-enable
speech with another press.

To set this up, first, open the Window-Eyes control panel by pressing
Control-Backslash.

Then, press alt-h for the help menu and make sure the “show advanced options”
item is checked. If it isn’t select it and it will be checked. Next, in the
tree view in the window-eyes control panel, use your up or down arrow and
navigate to the Hotkeys item. If it is closed (it usually is if you never used
it), press right-arrow to open it. Press down arrow until you hear
Miscellaneous. Then, press Tab. This will put you in a list of the hotkeys and
what they do. You can then type part of the key command you are looking for,
or just arrow down to it. The hotkey is called “Toggle All Voices (global)”.
There are 2 keys to toggle the synthesizer. One works in the program you are
using, and the other toggles speech for everything. When you find the “Toggle
All Voices (global)” hotkey, tab over to the “Capture Key” button and press
space on it. You can then type a key combination you want to use to mute the
synthesizer. Once you type the key combination you want to use, tab over to
the Save Settings button and press space on it.

Hope this helps.

OK sorry Georges.
I have my speech and other audio going into separate channels on a

Windows 10 mail app question

2017-05-10 Thread Joseph Norton via Talk
Hi listers:

Forgive me if this has been mentioned before.

In Windows 10 Maiol, the first time I bring up a message, WE automatically
reads it fine.

The second (and usually subsequent) time I bring up a message, it is not read
automatically. In fact, I get what appears to be a blank window. That is,
until I press control-end, then control-home. Suddenly, the message is there.

Anyone experienced this?

Thanks!

RE: Still using WE with Insider program

2017-05-10 Thread Joseph Norton via Talk
I, too, didn’t have any major worries.

One thing that has changed is that, when you’re in settings (accessed via
Windows i), there is a new Cortana settings page after the Update and Security
tab.

Also, and this is no big deal, but, if you accidentally press
Control-Windows-M, Magnifier settings will come up. It doesn’t seem to turn it
on, just brings up the settings dialog. However, this is probably not going to
be an issue for WE users, since that key combination toggles mute of the master
volume. Just thought I’d mention it.

Hi Russ,

Now, there's a bit of something we can sink our collective teeth into.
At least we have a time-line we can work with.

Thanks,

If you're trying to get people to stop using
Window-eyes, you're probably in for a pretty good fight there. and there
has been no official announcement that Window-eyes is indeed dead.
people will still use it no matter what you say.

Hi Chris. Its Sky here. I will tell you guys that, even before the office
version of Window-Eyes came out, their were even lies told by venders about
it. For example, some of the venders would say Window-Eyes was going bust,
or that it isn't good, etc, etc, etc, and those factors has never helped
Window-Eyes flourish at all.Even the blind institutions, like CNIB, etc,
would tell lies about Window-Eyes too. I remember a list member telling me
he had a blazing argument on the talkx email list with a vender and the
vender told him their was no favouritism regarding JAWS and other screen
readers. -Original Message-

They may not legally be able to at this point. There may
be legal things that might prevent them from making announcements before
the date that has been decided. One of the VFO staff isn't going to
come on here and go s guys, we're killing Window-eyes but don't tell
anyone. They're going to make an official announcement. I am going to
wait and see what that announcement says, how they plan to take their
next action and what they decide to do. If Window-eyes operates on my
system, which it clearly does, it's not dead. VFO hasn't made an
official announcement that it is so in my book, that means it's still
alive even if it might be in the short term. We shall wait and see. The
announcement might not even happen for another year. None of us knows.
I suppose the speculation will continue until it's time for them to make
an announcement.

Until then, we're going round in circles. i propose ignoring all
speculation and window-eyes is dead announcements from non-VFO staff.

fine for me on Windows 10 and I will be sticking with it until I reach a
time when Window-eyes can no longer support the work I'm doing.

So, let's just say it is terminally ill, rather than dead!

Do you think the following is speculation?

@mikelauf1: @Robbie Sandberg : Window Eyes to be phased out when MS Office

You all know that there are a very large number of Window-Eyes users.
and all of this "speculation" no matter the source is still just
"speculation". I personally know several window-Eyes users who are not
on this list that think all of this talk is nothing but a bunch of
rubbish! Okay, there might be some truth to some of it, but I am quite
certain that the very large number of Window-Eyes users are more than
likely not goig to be hung out to dry with no where to turn. So, all of
these sources no matter how "reliable they might or might not be" have
said absolutley nothing abut the thouhsands and thousands of Window-Eyes
users".

So, until I actually here that W.E. is no longer going to be supported
or developped I will continue to question these posts.
Thanks for your time & Have A Great Day! de

Re: Choosing From Where Speech Comes

2017-05-10 Thread Reg Webb via Talk
Georges

You'll need to be using a different sound device for your speech. Then
you can direct it to that device, with headphones coming out of it, via
the synthesizer setting dialogue. Select the speech synth, and tab to
the combo box which lists the available sound devices.

why don't we, including me, stop with the comments and return this list to

Is this just an urban myth or a fact? Do you actually know that the number
 of Window-eyes users has fallen?

What will kill Window-eyes is the fear of it being discontinued so new
users

will not take the risk in future of purchasing it.

I agree/. And even if they say as an example only in one year we will no
longer support WE I'm sure they will give a discount on Jaws maybe those
that knock Jaws should at least try it with an open mind. If you used it
years ago programs improve.

They may not legally be able to at this point. There may be
legal things that might prevent them from making announcements before the
date that has been decided. One of the VFO staff isn't going to come on
here and go s guys, we're killing Window-eyes but don't tell anyone.
They're going to make an official announcement. I am going to wait and see
what that announcement says, how they plan to take their next action and
what they decide to do. If Window-eyes operates on my system, which it
clearly does, it's not dead. VFO hasn't made an official announcement that
it is so in my book, that means it's still alive even if it might be in the
short term. We shall wait and see. The announcement might not even happen
for another year. None of us knows.
I suppose the speculation will continue until it's time for them to make an
announcement.

Until then, we're going round in circles. i propose ignoring all
speculation and window-eyes is dead announcements from non-VFO staff.

It always amazes me when smart folks (like on this list) prefer a
 fanticy
instead of reality. There is absolutely no reason for Window-Eyes to
continue and compete with JFW. Why would they do that?
