Sample Script

2020-04-03 Thread Ayers, David (ITCS) via Talk
Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had a sample script for a WE app? My task seems
simple but since I never wrote a WE app, I am not sure.

I have a phone app that displays the caller id. I want the caller id spoken
when it comes in. I was thinking of creating a hyperactive user window, but
the manual says an app may be better.

Delayed Response With Bluetooth Adapter

2019-08-09 Thread Ayers, David (ITCS) via Talk
Hello,

Does anyone use a Bluetooth adapter with their desktop running Windows 10
release 1809 and WE 9.5.4? I have a USB Bluetooth adapter and headset and
notice the response to speech feedback is delayed when trying to navigate
around the screens. For example, when reviewing email in Outlook, Arrowing up
and down messages does not stop speech and start reading new line for about 5
seconds. The same results when switching between open apps with alt + tab.

I am guessing this is something to do with Windows routing audio to the
adapter. Or, the transmission between the adapter and the headset. Distance
between adapter and headset is about 3 feet.

I am wondering if the response can be sped up?

Jeff,

I had the same issue when upgrading to Windows 10. Itt was over a year ago,
but I sent a request to Freedom Scientific support. They sent me a link to
download WE 9.5.4. I don't know if they will still send the download link, but
its worth a try.

Hello,

I have owned Window-Eyes for a couple decades both with a personal
license and one for my employer. I'm about to move over to a new
laptop running Windows 10. But, for the life of me I cannot locate
any CDs newer than version 8.X both here at home and at my office. I
have my license numbers. Do any of you have advice on how I can get
Window-Eyes installed onto the new Windows 10 laptop?

Thanks,
Jeff

Outlook 2016 Ribbon

Hello,

I pressed something in Outlook 2016 that messed up the ribbon menu drop down

RE: MS Office 365/2019

2018-11-28 Thread Ayers, David (ITCS) via Talk
Thanks Rod.

I have been using Office 2010. I just bought a new laptop and wanted to
upgrade Office. I am not concerned on having the latest version, however, if
2019 works with Window-eyes, I will go that direction. Since I don't care
about constant updates to Office, I have to decide on Office 365 or Office 2019
local. With the local install, I don't have to worry about an upgrade being
installed and WE not working with it, until win-eyes stops working with Windows
all together.

Hi David,

Ah, the word "issues" begs a response, didn't ya know. Smile
The ongoing issue using Office 365 is that you have to expect that Microsoft
likes to change the layout and hot keys you have become familiar with from time
to time, and this can make you crazy.
This ongoing update process is what you buy into when you subscribe to Office
365, since you always receive updates to all parts of Office as they are rolled
out.
Microsoft claims to be committed to improving the accessibility of Office over
time, and so Office 365 is the version of Office which will witness these
improvements in the most timely manner possible.

Wow, I hope I'm not sounding like a Microsoft commercial! Smile

Seriously, though, at this time, and even since I subscribe to Office 365 in
2015 when Windows 10 came out, from an accessibility point of view, I'm having
no focus issues using Window-Eyes with Outlook, Word, and Excel within the
Office 365 suite.

I'm happy to respond to any other specific questions which might arise for you.

All the best,

Rod Hutton

RE: JAWS Mobile?

In my situation, I need what is going to work to get my job done. I work in an
IT department and have to access several applications. Unfortunatly, 1 screen
reader doesn't get the job done. I still use Win-Eyes as my primary screen
reader, however, as it still works well, I am finding that it is less stable
and encounter many crashes throughout the day. I also have NVDA, but that
doesn't always do what I need it to. I'll use Narrator if the other 3 readers
won't work. It gets real frustrating when I know what needs to be done but do
not have the access to complete the task and have to ask for sighted help.

David, do you really want Jaws Mobile? Even when it was fashionable way
back whenever, it was one of the worst implementations I ever ran into in
the screen reader crazy world. The one from GW Micro which was available

I think you might have better luck with NVDA even though it doesn't have a

As of today though, unless something changes after I punch the Send button

USB Bluetooth Transmitter

Hello,

There was a discussion a while ago about using a USB Bluetooth adapter with

I am looking to replace the wired headset I use at work for a wireless one. I
want a small earpiece for only one ear. I use a Plantronics over the ear with

Bluetooth adapter will connect to the earpiece?

Any input will be greatfully accepted.

RE: Keys Echoing Incorrectly

2018-05-14 Thread Ayers, David (ITCS) via Talk
Rod,

Thanks. I have no problems changing the Key echo settings. It is the behavior
of the key echo that I am dealing with. At times, and always in IE, when
pressing any key, it will echo another key while the output is correct. I can
press any key several times and get a different key announcement each time.
Even shortcut keys behave differently. I cannot press 'E' to go to an edit
box, or 'H' for headings and so on. It has gotten so annoying that I stopped
using Win-Eyes on my desktop.

Hi David,

The setting of key echo can be changed through repeated presses of the hot key
Insert-2, and 2 is that found above the letter w, well, at least above the
letters area of your keyboard.
As you repeatedly press this hot key, you rotate through the various settings
for key echo, and, the setting wraps around infinitely.
When Window-Eyes is first installed, it is set as follows:
Keyboard voice on with characters
Now, I assume that when you say you set it to words, you simply changed it to
the next setting, namely:
Keyboard voice on with words
I would like to point out, though, that, if you wish to hear words articulated
after typing them, and if you also wish the individual keystrokes echoed when
you press them, then, and this would be the best experience on the desktop as
well, you should set it to:
Keyboard voice on with characters and words
If you also want numbers echoed as you type, then the next setting would be
good, as well, namely:
Keyboard voice on with characters, words and numbers
Once you set it the way you like it, return to the Window-Eyes control panel to
save your setting.
Note also that the setting you choose may only be active for the current set
file, and this depends on the setting of the Scope button within the Keyboard,
Voice node.
If you navigate to this node, and tab to that button, on new installations of
Window-Eyes, it will be set to Global, and this is true of many settings of
Window-Eyes.
.It is best to leave it this way.
Anyway, I hope this helps a bit.

Best,

Rod

Keys Echoing Incorrectly

2018-05-03 Thread Ayers, David (ITCS) via Talk
All,

I have a strange issue happening with key echo. When I press a key, and it
doesn't matter what key, it echos a different letter or number. For example,
if I am on the desktop and press 'I' for Internet Explorer, it will echo maybe
9, then another press of 'I' may say S. However, the cursor jumps to the right
desktop icon. So when pressing 'I', it will say a different letter/number, but
will go to the first or next item starting with 'I'. The same is happening
with any edit boxes or when I try to compose an email. It just doesn't echo
the letter/number I am pressing. This also messes with the shortcut keys in
IE. Pressing 'V' for visited links, or 'H' for heading, or 'E' for edit box
doesn't go to the correct location.

I have checked the keyboard layout and it was set to Zoom Text. I changed it
to default, but it still echos the wrong key stroke. I am using WE 9.5.4 and
Windows 10.

Any suggestions?

David Ayers

Rod,

Thanks. Yeah, WE 9.0 didn't install. Luckily, I was able to get a download
link for WE 9.5.4. I'll make sure not to lose that one.

Hi David,

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but Windows 10 will not allow you to
install Window-Eyes without at least a version 9.2 or higher installer.
As for Hot Spot, you can always install it on a fresh installation of
Window-Eyes, and you could then overwrite the new INI file with the old INI
files present in your old default profile folder.
Just make a copy of all the files in your old profile folder so that you can
grab the necessary Hot Spot files later.
Any Hot Spot files will start with the name hotspot.

Best,

Rod

Hello,

My work PC is being upgraded to Windows 10 and Office 2016, from Windows 7 and
office 2010. This includes a new SSD hard drive, so, before the upgrade, I
would like to copy and transfer some Hotspots that are on the old hard drive.
I have looked in the Hotspot app, but do not find a copy or export option. Can
the Hotspots be exported?

I am also concerned of installing WE 9.5.4 on the new drive, but will cross
that problem when I get there. I have a 9.0.0 disk and the 9.5.4 upgrade.

RE: Window-Eyes!

2017-05-11 Thread Ayers, David (ITCS) via Talk
I have heard "Why keep the competition or rival around" many times. Now that
AI Squared/Window-Eyes is part of VFO, how can it be competition? If a
consumer buys Window-Eyes or JAWS, VFO benefits. Support and development may
be a reason for dropping Win-Eyes, but they still have Doug and maybe Aaron(I
haven't heard about what Aaron Smith's status is).

Hi Dave!

There is so many rumors floating around right now, that I am damned
tempted to simply remove myself from all these lists. The only problem
there would be that I would have no real way of knowing what is going
on! I think it's a shame that VFO is fasing out Window-Eyes if they are
actually doing this, since I seriously believe that W.E. is the far
superior screen reader. Oh, I know there are folks out there who wil
disagree with that statement, and yes I do know that it is fairly
subjective, but since VFO will more than likely fase out Window-Eyes and
force all of us W.E. users to purchase a program which is not one of our
choice I really do believe that we should get some sort of discount. Oh
well, I guess I can dream - can't I..! Just my thoughts! Catch Ya Later! de

I had the same problem and sent an email to wesupp...@aisquared.com and

said that I now owned 9.3.1.0 and the installation went smoothly. I wonder if
some serial numbers didn't get ported into 9.3.

All,

I too am suffering from the issue of not being able to upgrade to 9.3.1 from
9.2.1 as others have done.

I have tried it several times by different methods, but always the result is
the same.

I download a generated copy of 9.3.1 and this appears To be successful.
WE then requests permission to install, which I agree to.
The upgrade then starts, with a few questions.
I then get to the braille options.
It does not matter which option I choose, either to install the new braille
settings or not.
I am then told that I cannot upgrade the current version of WE 9.3.1 over
the currently installed version.

N.B. I have re-installed WE 9.2.1 to see if that had an influence, but this
did not help either.

What next?

WE not responding with MS Access

2015-12-10 Thread Ayers, David (ITCS) via Talk
Hello,

I repeatedly have an issue with WE 9.2 and MS Access 2010. When I launch MS
Access and click on a database, WE freezes. MS Access opens but freezes when
any database is selected. I am unable to perform a WE restart with control +
alt + W. I have to launch another screen reader and go into task manager to
end task WE. The message in the task manager says Window-Eyes not responding.
After closing Access and end tasking and closing WE, I am able to control + alt
+ W to get WE back running. There is some VBA code in the databases. Could
that VBA code cause a conflict with WE? I don't have any issues with any other
Office apps. I had this same issue with earlier versions of MS Access starting
with WE 8.0 and later. I could get by with using MS Access 2003 and JAWS, but
I no longer have Access 2003 and find Access 2010 and WE works better (when WE
doesn't freeze up). Sometimes, I can close WE, open Access with another screen
reader, then open WE after the database has b
een opened, but that's kind of clunky and WE could freeze while in parts of
the database.

I am using Windows 7 Pro 64 bit and MS Office 2010 Professional with WE 9.2.

Thanks, David

If you can route the mouse pointer to the ticket number, just left click with
the mouse.
See if that helps.

Analyzing a Web App for accessibility

2015-10-06 Thread Ayers, David (ITCS) via Talk
Hello,

My employer is going to a new financial management package starting November
1st. I am trying to access many parts of the interface, but there seems to be
areas that are unaccessible. I have tried IE11 and Firefox and both share the
same results. How do I perform an analysis of the pages to figure out what, if
anything, I can modify. For example, there are many fields that have an
elypsis to click on, that will bring up a drop down list. I have tried to use
alt + down arrow and that doesn't work. I am also unable to find where these
elypsis are located on the screen. There are other issues, like, unlabeled
buttons and unreadable edit boxes. Any suggestions on how to start modifying
this web app? I only have limited sighted help.

Just for reference, the software is called Munis by Taylor Technologies. Munis
is a governmental financial management software package. I am using Windows 7
pro 64 bit and WE 9.2.

Thanks,

RE: Seeking Your Input

2015-05-29 Thread Ayers, David (ITCS) via Talk
Overall better stability and then...

1. Better mouse interaction with web apps in IE.

2. An auto OCR detection of .pdf documents that are scanned as images.

3. A way to use Remote Desktop with pc's without WE installed on them. Maybe
something like the mobile version of WE being run when logging on to the remote
pc and unloading at log off.

Thanks. Strange but this didn't work either. I set the up and down arrows to
execute hot key and speak status. It still does not read correctly. I press
control + shift + s and it reads the correct container. Setting the delay
makes no difference. As Thomas said, this stopped working around WE 7.5.

Hi, Tom, David.

A thought. Maybe you could create a set file specific to the active directory
plug-in, then redefine the up and down arrow keys to execute hot key instead of
speak line, then for the first action info, choose the speak summary hot key,
number 47 in the list. The cursoring key trigger delay might be more effective
with the speak summary hot key.

Of course, you'll need to set the cursoring keys to program instead of global
or else you'll mess up all your other set file cursoring keys.

I can't try it out myself, as I don't have Win 7 professional.

Lou N.

Sad to say, I manages a couple of AD myself from 2003 and now 2012, all it's
the same when it comes to huge or multiple OU.
Cursor delay does not do much to me, sometimes it just got worst, so I prefer
to use ctrl - shift - s to read the actual item I am in.
it can't be the network being slow as I RDP into them to manage them directly.
It started since 7.5 I think or so.
If you look at the group policy editor in all those new server, it have delay

Subject: Cursoring in Active Directory /Tree

Hello,

I am using Windows 7 and WE 9.1 with a set file renamed from default.set.

In Active Directory, the cursoring up or down reads the previous container when
in the first 3 branches. This also happens when navigating by typing the first
letter of the container. The settings for the up and down arrows are set to
read line. I have tried to change to read something else, but that doesn't
help. An example would be: we have departments like Public Health and Public
Works. If I am on Public Health and press the down arrow to Public Works, WE
says Public Health when it should say Public Works.
Likewise, when I arrow back up to Public Health, WE says Public Works. The
Windows Explorer or any other tree views do not behave like this.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get these arrow keys or typing by
first letter to read correctly?

Thanks,

David Ayers

RE: Cursoring in Active Directory /Tree

2015-03-16 Thread Ayers, David (ITCS) via Talk
Active Directory is a part of Windows Administrative Tools. I think it is a
Windows add-in. I use the module 'Active Directory Users and computers' under
Windows 7 Professional 32-bit.

David.

Is this a program that can be downloaded by other users, or is it part of one
of the Windows Operating Systems?

I have tried to reclass the window to the tree view and received a message
stating that I cannot reclass the standard tree view.

I also tried setting the cursor delay under the key settings. I set the delay
at several levels until 99 and WE still reads the incorrect line.

Hi David,

Have you tried changing the Cursor delay under the Cursor Keys node, expand
this, arrow to Options, and tab to Cursor Delay.
You should probably change the Scope to Program, or else it would be Global,
and this isn't required in your case.

Rod

I change the trigger delay to the highest setting of 99. Now the incorrect
reading is spiratic. It will say the right item then miss the next 2 or 3,
then be correct on the 4th. I tried cursoring down with a pause between each
key press, thinking WE needs to finish reading the item before the next one,
but that didn't change the result.

Sounds like WE is speaking before the cursor has had a chance to move. You
could try setting the up and down cursoring arrow trigger delay values to a
higher number.

Thanks,

David Ayers

Outlook Enhance

2015-03-12 Thread Ayers, David (ITCS) via Talk
Hello,

I removed the Outlook Enhance app and went to App Central to re-install it. I
cannot locate the app. I looked under Program Enhancements and saw the IE
Enhance app, but not the Outlook app. Can someone direct me to the download?

Thanks,

David Ayers
