how to make jaws low-cost

2017-04-09 Thread Joshua Kennedy via Talk

I emailed erik damery CEO of vfo with the following suggestions.

in order to make a low cost or free jaws, do the following.

1. rip out all nuance stuff. and for the free jaws, support and all
nuance stuff has to be paid or purchased separately if you want it.

2. replace nuance eloquence with speech player and espeak. replace
vocalizer with the free speechHub and microsoft speech platform voices.

3. rip out omniPage for OCR and replace it with the free tesseract OCR
or a free google OCR option.

4. free or low-cost jaws should be download only. or pay $20 for a dvd.

5. no jaws network install unless you buy the $20 dvd.

6. free jaws is authorized with a generic serial number.

7. all free jaws or low cost jaws serial numbers are the same maybe
serial=freejaws or something like that.

I wrote to vfo at least two times about this. I hope they are listening,
because using illegal keys made by middle eastern folks is sort of
annoying and I would much rather have a free or very very low cost jaws
for home use minus all the nuance stuff, but have a basic jaws tandom in
there so us freeJaws users can remote and help each other out.
Personally I cannot wait for the day to say goodbye to the foreign-made
key code. because i will never have the income to go to conventions to
buy jaws. besides using espeak would let jaws read the irish gaelic and
some other rare languages that eloquence and even nuance vocalizer does
not support. perhaps with any luck the big announcement coming in a few
months, will finally allow me to say goodbye to the
foreign-made-key-codes forever. i hope. i hope erik damery CEO of vfo is
listening. give us free or very very low-cost jaws for those who cannot
afford to buy full jaws with its nuance bells and whistles!

As memory serves, the best way to install a braille display with Window-Eyes is
to run the Setup wizard.
When you get to the braille display section, I believe it will attempt to
recognize the display automatically.
See what happens If you try this.

I cannot use orbit20 with window eyes. I can use orbit20 with NVDA, and I
can use orbit20 with jaws. orbit20 works excellent with NVDA and it also
works excellent with jaws also! the screen reader tells orbit20 to use dots
7 and 8 as a cursor under the character you are currently editing.

using touch screens

2017-04-06 Thread Joshua Kennedy via Talk
touch screens are quite easy to use. when the screen reader whether its
talkback for android or voiceover for iPhone is turned on, when you put
your finger or the pen on the screen talkback will read what is under
your finger. there are different gestures you use to quickly move around
apps and screens such as swiping in different directions, single and
double taps and so on. for example if I want to scroll on my tablet I
put two fingers on the bottom of the screen and slide them up to near
the top of the screen. I know I am scrolling up or down by the ascending
or descending tone sound that talkback makes. Some apps like my xfinity
tv app really rely on the touch screen. but with other apps like web
browsers I can mostly use my tablet's physical keyboard on the RCA
galileo pro tablet. as for keyboards, I'm so used to where the keys are
on the touch screen I can usually put my finger right on the letter I
want, lift my finger off the screen and the letter is inserted into the
edit box. with practice, touch screens are easy. you may need someone to
show you how they work at first maybe spend a few hours with you getting
you used to it. I had a friend who was frustrated with touch screens. I
spent about an hour or so showing him. Now he really loves his android
phones!

it is an RCA galileo pro you can get at walmart for $80. It runs android
6.0. It runs the talkback screen reader. It has a physical keyboard you
can put the tablet on top of and then it becomes a hinged laptop.
talkback has a good number of keyboard commands.

making the switch

2017-04-04 Thread Joshua Kennedy via Talk

hi

I use an RCA galileo pro tablet with physical keyboard magnetic keyboard
dock as a secondary in case this 10 year old laptop dies. The galileo
pro runs android 6.0 marshmallow. I find websites load faster and work
better than they do on the computer. And for $80 united states dollars
you can't beat that. And if I want I can detach the screen from the
keyboard and just use it as a plain old touch screen tablet. But usually
I keep it attached to the keyboard in laptop mode because talkback has a
lot of handy keyboard shortcuts that I use.

orbit20 display and future of window eyes

2017-03-29 Thread Joshua Kennedy via Talk
and so this is why the vfo group has to just fold window eyes into jaws
or just give us a free jaws for office option. because for some people
NVDA does not cut it, and we need something more powerful, yet that is
low cost or free. a jaws for office would work fine especially if you
need to do stuff in microsoft office. not to mention jaws works good
with the orbit reader20 prototype set to refreshabraille18 emulation.
window eyes does not work with orbit20 at all. come on vfo group let us
use jaws for free if microsoft office is installed on our machines!

yes its too bad windows10 doesn't let you use an sd card as the default

Since we have window-eyes for office I think now VFO also should come
out with a jaws for office or just take window-eyes and fold it into

jaws does. jaws has the best OCR, window-eyes does not. and they
could just port the current window-eyes script system over to jaws so
you could either use window-eyes apps as always or your current jaws
scripts. this would also give jaws native espeak support, support for
more tts languages, and much much more. and this would also
dramatically reduce the need for some people to feel they have to use
cracked copies of jaws because its too expensive. a jaws for office
or a window eyes for office folded into the main jaws screen reader
would greatly reduce screen reader piracy all around i think. so what
do you all think? combine the best of window eyes with jaws and have
a free jaws for office option? oh yeah and jaws web support i think
is the best. combine or just fold the best of window-eyes into jaws
and you'd have a great paid jaws, and a great free jaws for office
option.

I really like the free window eyes for office. But I have a few suggestions to
make it better.

1. rather than plain old e-speak. why not switch to speech player in e-speak
with the edward voice as the default voice? it sounds much more like eloquence
and is free.

2. Please add touch support and a touch cursor with keyboard emulation like
jaws has.

3. Please add and switch to the tesseract OCR engine for doing OCR. and make it
much easier to recognise pdf files.
