As another responder told you, Vinux is no longer being developed. If
you are a total beginner I suggest you look at "Slint" which is a branch
of Slackware Linux and is very accessible with a screen reader. Do a
Google search for the download which is about a 4 plus gigabyte download
but a very all inclusive installation and easy to install. The
maintainer of "Slint" is a very helpful person and I understand there is
a very helpful user mail list. But, as I said earlier, the Orca screen
reader is not as far advanced as WindowEyes was in Windows. If you like
tinkering then you will like Linux.

I have a link for the Slint mail list but am not sure is it is correct.

Saving WE script files?

2017-08-14 Thread Shannon via Talk
Hello all,

I still am using my WE for now.

I am having computer problems and will probably need to Wipe this unit
completely and start over.

I do have the install file for WE downloaded here but.

I had some custom scripts written for WE. Can I recover these files and
reinstall them in a new install of WE on the clean machine?

I don't know where the script files would be saved and how to save them to
reinstall them later.

Can anyone help me find and save these files?

Thanks

Glad to know that it exists though! Maybe when I get smarter about JAWS and

RE: Jaws18 Show/Read Password?

2017-06-06 Thread Shannon via Talk
Ed, I have bad news for you.
This question came up on the JAWS list I subscribed to and the short and
long answer is no it does not.
This generated many many many messages both for the feature and against the
feature.
The suggestions ranged from putting your passwords into a text file and then
copy paste them into the fields or get a password manager.
Not the answer you wanted but I hope it might help.

Fellow Migrants -
One WE9 feature I miss sorely is the option to show passwords. My fumbling
typing is not helped by hearing only * (series of stars) when typing a
password. Some sites I have visited while using Jaws18 offer a "Show" option
for the password field, but it has to be invoked each time I attempt logging
onto that site.
Does Jaws have a setting for reading/showing passwords universally, rather
than only when a "Show" control is provided for the password field? Not all
password fields offer the option to show/read.
I have searched for settings and help articles related to this nuisance, but
I have not found a solution. If I am missing something, please point me in
the right direction so I can access help for this situation.
Many thanks for the help.

Virtual View being blocked in WIN 10

2017-06-05 Thread Shannon via Talk
Good morning all,

I have a big problem.
I still rely on WE to do work. I have an issue when I try to use the Virtual
View under WIN 10, it is being blocked for my protection.

How can I tell Win 10 that this is not to be blocked? I don't see any other
features of WE being blocked but I need this one back.
Any help would be great.
The only thing I am finding on google is to disable the smartscreen.
Following the directions I am not finding the area with WE to do this.

Well, now all of you officially know that Window-Eyes is really dead! But,
why couldn’t most of you (mostly well-educated and intelligent) folks figure
that out for yourselves?

That is by no means a silly question. Analysis of news stories, by
independent researchers, over the past 6 months reveal that smart people as
well as stupid people embrace “fake news” with equal relish. Why is that?

Also, lots of folks still believe that President Trump is “doing a good job”
in spite of the fact that nothing has been really accomplished so far and that
Trump apparently has no clue about the facts at hand.

It is an intriguing question, pondered by sociologists, why approximately half
of the population, in any given community at any given time, will believe
“crazy stuff” if asserted by a “figure of authority”.

Greetings everyone.

Over the weekend, I switched to JFW, and it has come as something of a shock
to realise that Window-eyes is no longer the preferred screen reader.

Yesterday it came off my workstation at work.

JFW meets more of my work requirements than does Window-Eyes. The braille
support with the Focus line of displays is far better than the support I
could get from Window-eyes.

JFW's extensive help and other training material is for me quite daunting,
but I'll get used to it.

Web browsing at close to JFW default settings gives more information
regarding elements and content.

Outlook is keeping track of open messages more reliably.

Yesterday at work: Window-Eyes crashed four times in three hours. To be
more accurate: other apps interacting with Window-Eyes crashed, and Outlook
was one of the prime culprits.
The corporate network gets grumpy with respect to some of the Window-eyes
apps. I am sure that it probably also does with JFW's scripts.

So: it is sad to see an old friend go, but when the tools of the trade no
longer do what is required, hard decisions have to be made with respect to
those tools.

Vaughan.

How to coppy my WE to another profile

2016-11-16 Thread Shannon via Talk
Hello,

I have been having some trouble with WE and another program here at work.
It has been suggested that I 1. Either create a new profile or 2. Log in as
another user profile with Administrator rights.
This is trying to determine if my User profile is corrupted and helping to
cause some of my crashing and issues.
I was able to log into a different Administrator window profile and have WE
come up but my custom app for this particular program did not come up under
that profile.

How can I copy my "Working" we and apps over to another windows profile?
That way I can use the custom app under that user to see if the
"Shannon" profile is corrupted in some way?

Thanks so very much.

Dell Latitude good brand

Intel Core i5 that is a fast processor for graphics intensive pc games
like grand theft auto five.

4GB 4gb of ram is very good.

128GB SSD ok the 128gb ssd means your pc will start up very very very
fast all the time and shut off very very fast and load everything very
very fast just like a braille note note taker does.

14" LED Ultrabook (6430U) that means it is a small and light weight laptop.

I really have no idea what all that stuff means. Is it any good? I pasted a

I do know that it is not going to have a dedicated number pad so...
Anyone have any idea which external Key pads are compatible with WE so I can
use the mouse functions?

Or even better a suggestion for an external keyboard that will feel more
like a desktop layout? Are there any that would be more or less portable
with the whole laptop idea in mind
And
It doesn't appear to have a CD rom so How do I get WE onto it?

Thanks for any advice. I have looked through the Amazon list of keyboards
and I am stumped so pointers are greatly appreciated.

Subject: query re excell

Hi Folks:

Although I am running an older version of ms excell, I think the adding and
subtracting between 2 cells should be the same.

What I need to do is:

Subtract cell b22 from cell 12 where cell 22 is $3800.00 and cell 12 is
$3900.00

thought the formula Was equal sum(c39b22)

But id does not work

Thanks

Any one here use Google Drive?

2016-10-03 Thread Shannon via Talk
Good morning,
I have recently been voted to be the Treasurer of our little club.
I now have in my possession about 46 years of documents.
I was considering trying to digitize all these records and store them in the
google drive.
I think I want to do this for the reasons of ease of access and to keep them
safe.
Can I, using WE 9.5.3.0 and windows 8.1, and windows internet explorer do
this?

Thanks for any suggestions.

What am I hearing on the web?

2016-04-16 Thread shannon via Talk
Good afternoon
Home alone and doing some web searching and have time to ask this question.
I keep hearing the word "Sprite" when I navigate web pages.
What is it?
I just was on
http://allrecipes.com/recipe/228056/parmesan-crusted-tilapia-fillets/
This site is very clunky to work with but... It reacts slow or WE is being
slow, not exactly sure. It may take a bit to find the directions but at the
end you will or at least I did hear, "Sprite".
Which reminded me to ask the question?
I hear it all the time when I check the charges on my citi credit card
statement.
Is it a thing or some dum graphic that WE can see and reads?
What is it besides annoying to me?
Thanks

Remote Assistance question

2015-10-16 Thread Shannon via Talk
Good morning,

I have posted to the list about our company looking into the electronic time
collection programs.
I have so far found that 2 companies are willing to download the WE for
Office offer and try to see if their programs are accessible with WE.

I/we tried to do a remote assistance session to allow me to remote into one
of the programs but the connections would not take place.
We tried both options send request and alternate help, neither one worked.
Exak Time was the computer asking for help and I was the helper in this
situation. Send request did absolutely nothing the connect button was grayed
out.
Alternative help continued to say connecting on my side, but never did.
I am going to guess it is firewalls, and router settings but I don't
understand how the settings outlined in the manual is supposed to be used.
Is there anything I could do on my end to make the remote connection
actually work?
I was able to listen to her use the program, over the phone, "mostly " with
the mouse and my directions how to use the mouse with the keyboard. It does
appear that I will be able to reach most of the functions of the program and
or convert the data into excel files that I know I can use. So not a total
fail.
I would like to try the same experiment with a product called AboutTime,
that is if I can remote in would be preferred.
I am running WE 9.2.1, I believe that the new install of the Office offer
would be the latest build as well. Could I be wrong about that? Once they
download the Office version do they have to look for updates?
Will this situation possibly work?

Thanks for any help.

WE and Electronic Time card data collection software?

2015-10-02 Thread Shannon via Talk
Good morning all,
I hope someone on this list has encountered this issue.
Our company is considering getting away from paper time sheets and
implementing an electronic solution for time collection. It is either done
through an actual card swipe or through a smart phone app for clocking in
and out.
So far I have investigated two possible solutions.
One product is called Exak time, and the other is called About Time.
Both systems have a program that would live on our server in the office that
is the actual collection area for all login data for the time.
Exak Time has no trial software program that I may play with to see if WE
will work with its control panel.
About Time engineers said that there is no keyboard support for their
control panel.

So does anyone here deal with any sort of time collection system that does
work with WE? Has anyone here ever heard of either of these products and
know if they are indeed accessible?

I would like to be able to use the software but... If I am not able to find
a workable solution it may become someone else's job to manage payroll, and
I'll have to find another hat to ware. Smile

Any advice or alternatives are welcome and appreciated.
Thanks

Casey,
A Software Maintenance Agreement (SMA) can be purchased in the US for $199
assuming you own Window-Eyes 9.0/9.1. I believe it will cost around $20 more
if you want to get your software on CD. Please refer to the Window-Eyes 9.2
read me for more details about the changes and fixes in this latest release.
Here is the link:
http://www.gwmicro.com/Window-Eyes/Version_History/index.php?details=9.2.0.0
. When I skimmed through it just now, I did find a few improvements relating
to Thunderbird. You will need to decide for yourself if you need the upgrade
as each person's situation is unique. The Ai Squared telephone number is
802-362-3612. Once you call in, the automated attendant will give you
options for reaching our different departments. The email address you can
use to reach Window-Eyes support is wesupp...@aisquared.com and you can send
sales inquiries and order requests to sa...@aisquared.com.

Hi okay I have been trying to upgrade to the latest window-eyes.
And I am unable to cause I don't have an MA left to do so.
So first of all how much would it cost me to get an MA again so that I will
be able to get the next set of upgrades?
Also how much once that is done will it cost me to get A CD copy of the
latest window-eyes?
So did you address any of the issues with Thunderbird in the latest version
of window-eyes?
So what all fixes or changes will us windows seven users find in this new
version?
Or are most of the fixes and improvements for windows 10?
So if you have windows seven still do you really need to upgrade to the
latest version of window-eyes or is there some improvements that will be
good for us windows seven users as well?
Also what telephone number and e-mail address do we now use to contact your
company for ordering and technical enquires?

Outlook Enhanced Problems

2015-07-24 Thread Shannon via Talk
Hello
I am trying to fix my Outlook problems. I have had trouble with it for some
time now and I have just dealt with it but now I want to be able to use the
EDIT feature in Outlook.
I had mentioned this on the list a couple of days ago.
I did try to install the required files to run Outlook Enhanced app but the
Dot Net frame work will not install. The other files gave no error messages.
I tried running it straight from the tool bar. I also have saved the
download and tried it that way and no luck.
The error message reads as follows.
Your installation will not occur. See below for reasons why.
Details
1. Microsoft .NET Framework 4 is already a part of this operating system.
You do not need to install
the .NET Framework 4 redistributable. More information .
2. Same or higher version of .NET Framework 4 has already been installed on
this computer.
Please see Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Setup readme for more information.
Continue Close

This is a windows 8.1 machine with WE 9.1 and Outlook 2010

I was answered by another list member that this is a drop dead component and
must be installed. He had to contact Microsoft support and had GW on a
conference call to achieve the answer. He however was not able to recall
what had to be done to get it to work.

What do I do? It doesn't want to install and it causes WE to crash Outlook
when I unload it an d load NVDA which can edit the message.
I first have to exit Outlook, unload WE, load NVDA and reload OUTLOOK when
there is a message I wish to edit.
How can I get this to work?
Thanks

Outlook 2010 and the edit message feature problems with WE

2015-07-23 Thread Shannon via Talk
Hello all,
I have recently found the need to use the edit feature of the Outlook 2010
messages. I find that Windoweyes is causing this feature not to be
available. The options for it are grayed out and the most easiest simply
typing into the subject line of the opened message will not work.
However if I turn off WE and turn on NVDA it is possible to do it with
success.
Another thing that is happening is when WE will not allow it to be edited it
will cause Outlook itself to crash and close. This is most definitely
related to WE and Outlook 2010 not playing well.
I am running the Outlook enhanced app and checked that it was updated , and
I did follow all the extra download files instructions given here previously
and again yesterday. The only problem in running the installs came at the
Network 4 file. The message said that my install would not continue for the
following reasons. A same or newer version is already installed on the
operating system.
Just to be clear I did all of them again this morning and restarted my
computer to be sure of all components.
It still will not work.
Any suggestions?
Outlook 2010, windows 8.1 64B and WE 9.1

Thanks Shannon

Hi,
Outlook enhance has its own option for turning off the notification sound.
Having said that, if you are opening messages and are hearing the
notification sound, your messages are not being virtualized.
It has been my experience that messages that are virtualized do not play the
notification sound.

 Hi,
Go to the Window-eyes control panel, control-backslash. Select the
 apps menu by pressing alt-a.
Down arrow to ie enhance Press enter. The first item is notification
options. Press enter on it. Finally press enter on play sound.

 That should do it.

If you want a quiet sound, you can replace IEEnhance.wav with one of
your own keeping the same name.
This file is located in your profile directory.

What happened to excel 2007 with WE9.1

2015-03-05 Thread shannon via Talk
I just did the update at home because I was afraid to lose some critical set
files at work.
I have been running 8.4 here at home on a win 7 machine and excel 2007.
I have been bringing home some spreadsheets that I need to work on and the
Auto filters used to work before I made the update.
Now I am hearing that items are partially checked instead of checked or
unchecked along with odd words of grouping object.
What happened?
Why is it not behaving like before? It makes me wonder if I am able to get
the info I am looking for.
For example I want to filter out all the Non blanks and only show the
particular rows which this column is blank. I am not able to get the sheet
to display like that. It says that blanks are partially checked or unchecked
but I can't get blank to fully check.
You will all think this may be odd that I would want blank cells but I am
looking for missing data. And that would be shown in the blank cells.
Am I just being paranoid or why did WE decide to change the behavior?
Thanks
I haven
't tried to do anything else to see how WE 9.1 works yet.
I am looking forward to finishing my work and trying to surf the WEB with my
new WE but I have to finish my chores first. Smile

Hi Louis,

So sorry, but I forgot to say that you must shut Outlook down first before
typing the command:

Outlook.exe /cleanviews

And pressing Enter.
Otherwise, you'll get multiple copies of Outlook running.
Anyway, if you do end up with multiple copies of Outlook running, just shut
them all down, type the command, press Enter, and you should be okay.

Good luck,

Hi Louis,

If you Hold down the left Windows key, and press R, you will call up the Run
dialog box.
If you were to then type the following command:

Outlook.exe /cleanviews

Making sure to type the punctuation just as I wrote it, this will restore
Outlook, thereby eliminating any customized views you may have done
intentionally or by mistake.
Perhaps this will solve the problem.

Louis Gosselin

Running Win-Eyes 8.4 on a Windows7 Desktop. Throughout all of this morning
now, whenever I attempt to learn how many messages are present in my in-box,
by pressing Ctrl-Insert-s, I'm hearing Filter Filter Applied connectivity
to your server and then something about synchronizing files. How long is
that process supposed to go on?
Can I do something to force the process to complete or stop or something, so
I can find out how many messages I have in my in-box currently? It's quite
commonplace to see this message, but usually it goes away after I've read
and deleted a number of messages. Not so today.
Thanks for any help.
