RE: 9.1 Locking up and Speech Stopping?

I am also running window eyes for office 9.1 on a Toshiba laptop with
windows 8.1 an core i7 at 2.6GHZ and 16GB of ram and I dont notice the
issues . I also have a 256GB solid state hard drive. So I think my
configuration is why I don't experience issues with window eyes locking up.

I bought the system preconfigured this way at best buy about 3 months ago.

RE: 9.1 Locking up and Speech Stopping?

2015-06-15 Thread Dave via Talk

Hello Lou,

Yes, the Computer manufacturer is to build their systems to at least
the Minimums require3d for what ever Operating System is to be installed.

In my experience, those Minimums are on the bottom edge of
reliability when it comes to using that system effectively.

I once had a Boss that was always putting the Minimum requirements so
low for the Software the Company produced, that in my mind, the
posted Minimum requirements were as close to a lie as you could get
without actually lying.

A customer would call, and their machine would have the minimum
requirements printed on our package, and yet the software would not
run without crashing. Or it was so slow, that even though the
software would start up, it was so slow, that using it was for the
most part fruitless. And I being the Tech Support guy, had to find
some way to make it all run as if the system had a High End Quad
Core 3.4 chip with 16GB of Memory. An impossible task, because
sometimes as system is what it is, and there is no way to make it run
faster, or smoother.

Lets not forget that Marketing wants to sell software to as wide of
market as possible, and so they too will push the limits when it
comes to Minimum requirements printed on their Web Site, or on their
packaging. It is all about the Money ya know.

You mentioned that most of the problems with Speech dropping out was
when you were using one or the other of the two browsers you have installed.

This is where most of my problems happen as well. Although I have
had some failures when using my Email program.

There are about 7 or 8 Browsers out there and the only ones I have
used are I.E. 11, the latest Firefox, and the latest Google offering.

firefox and Google just give me fits. So I end up returning to I.E.
11, which I suspect has a few bugs of its own.

I'll try starting up NVDA to see if there are any Error messages from
I.E. or some other program.

concerning the browser itself. Occasionally, I cannot get focus to the

finger of death.

Speaking of Firefox, is WE mouse function still gone in the newest build?

Hello,

To those of you that are having Lock Ups and Speech dropping when
using Win Eyes 9.1, I am curious to see how much RAM Memory your
system has to work with? And what voice Synthesizer are you using?

I have 6GB of Memory, but am using one of the Premium voices that
Window Eyes sells, which uses more memory than some of the other voices.

I at times have no problems, and then other times, nothing but
problems. Am starting to wonder if it has anything to do with Memory.

it serves it's purpose, and doesn't use up too much memory, as I do a fair

Hello Dave

I am using Win 7 64 Home Premium and getting frequent problems with
WE 9.1. I have 16 gB of ram. Firefox is absolutely useless. If I
do a google search it works fine until I try cursoring down the
results because then WE stops speaking every time.

My laptop with Win 8.1 and 16 gb of ram using WE 8.4, never, or at
least extremely rarely stops speaking.

Hi Dave I have had lots of trouble with WE and win 7 it just stops talking
for no reason.

I now have 2 win 8.1 computers and find WE more stable.
But i have few problems with WLM and
we still and the main thing i find is if i use the numbpad keys WE will just
stop talking.
Such as today I open up computer to check how much hard drive space i have
used so i did so and had to use numbpad keys to arrow down to read it and we
just stoped but short cut key brought we back.
And the other thing is in windows update i have had we just stop talking
after the restart now button pops up.

Subject: 9.1 Locking up and Speech Stopping?

2015-06-14 Thread Dave via Talk
Karen, Thanks for the info, and when attempting to solve a problem,
such as this one, collecting information to see if there are any
Common threads is a must.

The person that posted just before you, seems to have an issue, but
it locks as if he can duplicate the Freeze at Will. this probably is
not the same cause as your system locking, or mine.

I will be curious to see if your computer runs a bit better with the
4 GB rather than only 2.

I am guessing that your system is a 32 bit system, which the
Operating System, will only use up to 4GB of Memory, no matter how
much memory you might have installed.

One of those issues of the 32 bit Operating Systems.

At 07:23 PM 6/14/2015, you wrote:

I have some problems on my Acer netbook running Windows 7 with WE 9.1 using
Eloquence. There is 2 gb of RAM in this machine and we are planning to
double that to 4 gb by adding more memory.

One thing we learned from Geek Squad at Best Buy is that this machine also
has an Intel inside chip which is a very basic chip and not top of the line.
So the chip that is in your machine may be an issue if it's not above a
basic chip.

Hope this info helps.
