RE: No future; Window-Eyes is dead!

2017-05-15 Thread Steve Nutt via Talk
Hi Alison,

I don't think that will happen. Besides, there is also Supernova and System
Access.

I am already talking to Dolphin to see if we can't improve the screen reader
side of Supernova.

All the best

Yeah, I too wish NVDA could copy the Window Eyes keyboard commands. I
find the Insert Up Arrow to be a bit Funky when reading the line the

I also wish NVDA had the User Window Feature, something I use all the
time.

2017-05-09 Thread Peter Duran via Talk
Well, Window-Eyes is unfortunately definitely dead. It is irrational to
presuppose that VFO will support two competing screen readers, with one a
lot cheeper than the other. Sad to say, JAWS won and WE lost the
screen-reader wars.

Those of us with technical skills ought to help NVDA to improve over time so
we can keep up with Windows 10 advances.

I asked straight up if it was a dead product and she said yes. She said the jfw
version of fusion will be out within the next 2 months and will be sold as
fusion version 11. If you have a esp (ai2's version of a
sma) it will be automatically delivered as major upgrade. For those who don't
have sma, fusion home version is $200. Neospeech voices will not be in it. Only
eloquence and vocalizer. I am not buying.

Hi Peter,

Why not two screen readers from VFO.

Many other companies in the real world have more than one brand of products
in their offerings, why not Window-eyes which is far better than the other
brand VFO sells.

Also if Window-eyes is dead like so many speculate, VFO had no issues in
selling me a Window-eyes SMA a month ago for $199.00 for the next two major
upgrades!

Narrator has a long way to go to be a viable screen reader and do we want to
be relying on Narrator for Windows, like those poor folks who have MAC and
appple products having only one choice, Voice over!

NVDA is coming along, but it has a way to go to be equal to Window-eyes.

I am successfully using Window-eyes 9.1 with XP Pro.
YOU are probably laughing, but MY company did over $500,000.00 using XP pro,
Window-eyes 9.1, AVG 2 year protection software, Firefox for my browser,
Office 2003 with the ms converter patch to access office 2007 and up files,
and good old outlook express and outlook as email clients with little or no
issues!

I also have over 6 computers with windows 7 pro with the latest Window-eyes
9.54 with little issues.

I wil go to Dolphin screen reader before I am stuck with no Window-eyes and
have NVDA as a backup screen reader.

Who knows, maybe if the alternative facts are true about the end of
Window-eyes, maybe some other adaptive company wil take it over and keep it
alive, Like HumanWare.

So I wil expect a refund from VFO if Window-eyes does not come out with any
major upgrades and use my refund to purchase Dolphin screen reader software
instead.

Re: No future; Window-Eyes is dead!

2017-05-09 Thread Reeva Webb via Talk
Just for reference sake. I did call vfo and ask about the we version of
fusion. I asked straight up if it was a dead product and she said yes. She
said the jfw version of fusion will be out within the next 2 months and
will be sold as fusion version 11. If you have a esp (ai2's version of a
sma) it will be automatically delivered as major upgrade. For those who
don't have sma, fusion home version is $200. Neospeech voices will not be
in it. Only eloquence and vocalizer. I am not buying.

JAWS, NVDA and narrator are left on the windows platform?

It always amazes me when smart folks (like on this list) prefer a fanticy
instead of reality. There is absolutely no reason for Window-Eyes to
continue and compete with JFW. Why would they do that?

There are 3 options to check out: Narrator on Windows 10, NVDA, and
VoiceOver. So, get real and get to work.

I suppose those of you who believe that Window-Eyes will stay around also
believe that the health care bill that passed the House last week will cover
everybody as promised by Trump instead of leaving 24 million folks without
any health care.

NVDA isn't yet in the same class of screen Reader as JAWS, so the VFO

are only used by those who couldn't ever afford JAWS.

Hi John,

Actually, all of the members of the gang of five, Apple, Microsoft, Google,
Facebook and Amazon regularly buy technologies from start-ups, whether or not
the software is currently free, and so NVDA might sell if they get the right
offer.
Why not?

Fingers crossed,

RE: No future; Window-Eyes is dead!

2017-05-08 Thread Olusegun -- Victory Associates LTD, Inc. via Talk
Nick, in my case, I am working extra hard to DITCH FOR GOOD Windows screen
readers! I'm going to start running with touchscreen phones and tabletsw!
No, I won't ever spend an extra cent on the purchase of Jaws!

As for NVDA, I will consider donating my widower's mite to its developers
for purposes of helping to encourage continuous development so that blind
folks in third countries can have access to a screen reader that won't kill
every mocking bird in their cages.

If I were to switch to NVDA right now, I will need someone to do some
heavyweight scripting of the apps I use on a daily basis in my business!
Secondarily, I am NOT prepared to pay $125/$150 an hour to any person to
help script these apps for Jaws! With my Shiny Android, I can get
developers to LABEL their apps following guidelines prescribed by Google.
That's it and I can get back to brass tacks in a relatively short period of
time. Kicking Windows and Windows screen readers like cans down the road is
something I long for and I am inching ever so close with every minute
second.

Will I miss Window-Eyes? You bet I will! It has helped me to get my work
done for this long; the Tech support has been phenomenon. I will miss all
of that. But, on My Shiny Android platform, I can get real dedication and,
just as I did with GW Micro, I can chat directly with app developers and get
real results! I hope that my ongoing transition will be close to 95%
completion by at least September 2017. That's the goal I have set anyway,
and I'll work doubly hard at achieving it.

Sincerely,
Olusegun
Denver, Colorado

Can you honestly say NVDA is better than Jaws? While I don't believe anyone
who says yes, I am also genuinely asking, because I have never used either,
but I am also convinced that those who would prefer NVDA over Jaws
(financial issues notwithstanding) are cutting off their noses to spite
their faces (silly cliche alert). But why does it have to be NEDA vs Jaws?
Does your copy of Window-eyes suddenly not work? Why are some of you here
so anxious to get rid of your Window-eyes and replace it with another screen
reader? I went for years, using WE without this list, and hardly leaning on
customer service. My point is, even if WE is discontinued, it does not mean
you cannot get a few years of use.
Maybe in two or three years, NVDA or Narrator will significantly improve, or
Jaws will go down in price (perish the thought).

Oh I never said I didn't like it. It's just not my favorite. Things just
don't seem as simple to do as they have been with WE. I also can't seem to
get Eloquence to work with it properly. It's not my favorite voice in terms
of quality but its response time is still just about the quickest I've

Vfo selling we sma's means nothing. Of course they'll take your money.
You're not gonna get what you paid for but it's your money. Most

   Hi Peter,

Why not two screen readers from VFO.

Many other companies in the real world have more than one brand of
products
in their offerings, why not Window-eyes which is far better than
the other

Also if Window-eyes is dead like so many speculate, VFO had no

Narrator has a long way to go to be a viable screen reader and do

NVDA is coming along, but it has a way to go to be equal to

I am successfully using Window-eyes 9.1 with XP Pro.
YOU are probably laughing, but MY company did over $500,000.00

Office 2003 with the ms converter patch to access office 2007 and

and good old outlook express and outlook as email clients with
little or no
   issues!

I also have over 6 computers with windows 7 pro with the latest
Window-eyes

I wil go to Dolphin screen reader before I am stuck with no
Window-eyes and
have NVDA as a backup screen reader.

Who knows, maybe if the alternative facts are true about the end of

RE: No future; Window-Eyes is dead!

2017-05-08 Thread Vaughan Dodd via Talk
Personally: not having been a great fan of JAWS for years, but feeling that
Window-eyes could no longer meet my requirements, I've been happy to review my
thinking about JAWS.

Since running it exclusively for just over a month, I have concluded that
aspects of it make JAWS to be a more powerful screen reader than Window-eyes.

Braille support is better. Web navigation across three browsers is better.
And Edge support is coming.

At work, where my Window-eyes install was always flaky - JFW has been much more
stable. I can go a whole day without a system crash - not true with
Window-Eyes.
So: in fairness - I've had a problem with authorisation. That was caused by
one machine failing, and purchasing a new pc and so I lost one authorisation.
Fixed quickly by Customer Support. Paradoxically: the documentation is more
extensive, but because there are so many help access options, I am sometimes
confused about how to chose the help I need. I want a manual that I can just
chuck on to a braille device and read it as I please. Not found it yet, but
could be user ignorance.

Clearly: People have to make decisions about what is in their best interests.
But it just seems unwise to use sentiment as the reason why you can't change
your mind.

Vaughan.

Well that's the big question, isn't it? I would say
yes because the latest update didn't come out very long ago, but
Window-eyes updates weren't as frequent as JAWS ones are these days.
Whatever will happen probably won't be for a good while yet, so just
based on an educated guess i would say that we might see one more
update, with some kind of announcement that it's the final version. No
screenreader company sighted or blind simply stops developing software
products without some major announcement of some kind. So if it's true,
and it is dead, we'll know before too long.

Re: No future; Window-Eyes is dead!

2017-05-08 Thread Chris Skarstad via Talk
I suspect certain people at VFO feel the exact same way
about Window-eyes.

Unfortunately, Window-eyes has always been kind of seen as the underdog,
whereas JAWS is the more popular option. The most popular doesn't
always mean better, but when you're dealing with money, that's what
happens. So unfortunately, it's looking more and more like JAWS
will win. I hope I am wrong.

Magic's death is coming and it's deserved. That software is a joke. Vfo
selling we sma's means nothing. Of course they'll take your money. You're not
gonna get what you paid for but it's your money. Most likely sma holders will
get discounted jfw offered. I've never seen so many people determined to bury
they heads in the sand. We's time is up y'all. You can use we until your pc
turns to dust but the reality is that there won't be any future improvements.
As new windows stuff comes out, we will become unusable.

So I wil expect a refund from VFO if Window-eyes does not come out with any

   instead.

So I wil expect a refund from VFO if Window-eyes does not come out with any
major upgrades and use my refund to purchase Dolphin screen reader software
  instead.

What saddens me about all this, is that my answer to your question is this:
Because JAWS is touted as the number one screen reader, and as much as I
don't like it, unless a miracle happens, VFO isn't going to keep them both
going when they have in their view, the number one screen reader. Not to
mansion that people have made a living creating JAWS specific products, so...
As far as Narrator goes, yes I agree with you there. I've tested the demo of
the dolphin product, and I'll warn you, the demo file is over a gig in size.
It comes with its own book share search utility, its own scanning utility, and
some other stuff that I haven't had practical time to test.
I would consider it though.
Thanks,
Darrell
