A 'Kill dupes' problem

2004-11-07 Thread Roger Phillips
Hi All,

I have only recently noticed that the 'Kill duplicates' action ignores
any messages that are marked as 'Parked'.

My question is, does anyone know if this is intentional or if it is a
bug? 9Val?

If it is, 'as designed', then IMHO it should be changed. If one wants to
remove duplicates then one wants to remove _ALL_ duplicates regardless
of what their characteristics may be.

Any comments?

Sounds interesting. I will not try that, though, since those who have
done what Maxim explained as the correct way did encounter some
problems. As message base encryption at the moment is not vital to my
needs (it may be so in the near future) the pay-off is too low.

loss of preferences, filters and perhaps messages.

The main purpose of this beta is the flawless transition for the Pro

I use a simple little batch file in combination with Winrar. It backs up
the registry entries to a Bat sub folder and then zips the whole lot up and
dumps it onto a usb memory stick. Safe and sound in my pocket and takes
less than a few minutes to transfer it to any PC as if it had always been

Didn't work before as well. Check this:

Because if MAU works, then it looks like it might be an OS issue.

Or a keyboard layout issue. I am using a Swedish keyboard and
capitalises the first letter by pressing ctrl-', capitalises the whole
word by pressing ctrl-´ and decapitalises the whole word by pressing
ctrl-å. ctrl-numpad / does nothing. I've never figured out how to
decapitalise just the first letter, if possible.

Now, ' is the key next to my enter key, just above my right shift key.
´ is the key just to the left of backspace. å is below ´, slightly to
the left. Does this match the standard keyboard combination you are
all talking about?

IIRC, / on a American English keyboard is located next to the right
shift key, on the same line. Here, that is - and hitting ctrl-- does
nothing.

I always wondered why no one else mentioned the differences between
keyboard layout of different countries, are the majority of keyboard
layouts similar enough to American English not to cause this
confusion?

If this is a general problem, I guess Ritlabs could handle this by
including those shortcuts in the shortcut editor. That way we not
using standard keyboards at least could figure out how to find all
features without having to try every single key.

If you mean capitalize first letter of a word then it might be an OS

There is no menu to switch it. Only when doing a clean install
(when not The Bat! entry is in the Registry), you can select the
 encryption node.

This is quite right that that The Bat! didn't ask you about the
encryption, you did already have an installed instance of the
 program.

Error when sending mail

2004-11-07 Thread Tim Casten
Hello tbbeta,

I continue (sporatic) to get the attached invalid pointer error when
  sending an email.
Here is what happens compose the email, click send, the error
message pops up, when i click ok to ackowledge the error, the
composed message comes back to the foreground as if it wasnt sent to
the outbox, however the message actually was sent to the outbox, and
if i just close the message the original message before the error
will be sent. If i click the send icon on the message when it pops
up after the error message it will send the message in duplicate.

Very Strange i understand my typing may be somewhat confusing but i

Making screenshots (was Re: Error when sending mail)

2004-11-07 Thread Alexander S. Kunz
Hello,

sorry to interrupt without adding to the thread, just a little hint
regarding screenshots (I hope this message is not regarded as moderation,
its not my intention... just sharing a good hint)...

Use the PNG format for screenshots save with maximum compression. PNG is
especially streamlined for images with *low* pixel randomization, e.g.
screenshots, web graphics, etc.

Don't use JPG for screenshots. JPG is good for fotos, scans and other
images with *high* pixel randomization.

A screenshot of this message in a separate window will probably take some
30kB as PNG (lossless, full quality, full color depth), but some 100kB as
JPG with 85% quality (lossy, with artefacts around the letters, etc.)

Again, please excuse jumping in with this OT notice, I just thought that we
all would benefit from smaller attachments. Thanks. :)

Even better would be, when the screenshot is only used to show a messagebox,
to just retype the message - no need for 100x bigger picture that doesn't
tell anything more.

Also, when you really want to make a screenshot of a dialog box, use
Alt+PrintScreen - this will automatically crop to the window only.

DH Tony may be the better one to tell, as he uses this.

Occasionally I buy software off the web, The Bat, Time Chaos, Acronis,
MailwasherPro, NOD32 and Kerio to name a few. They send me an email with
all my registration details, I put it in an archive folder, Park it and
don't have to worry about accidentally deleting it.

I have deliberately made multiple duplicates of all of these both on CD, SD
and USB memory sticks just in case... It's invariably TB! I look to first
 should I need them.

Unlike a lot of people, I delete most of the mail I receive especially when
a thread I'm participating in is finished. I then go on a frenzied deletion
spree. But there is the occasional one I want to keep so I park it just in
case I get too click happy.

might have been possible, but not secure.

If you switch between encrypted and unencrypted mode, how would we deal with
the attachements that are kept in a separate directory? In encrypted mode,
attachments aren't stored separately. This is needed to protect the attachments.

Besides, it might be difficult for TB! to keep track of to different
bases for each folder, one encrypted and one not. I vote for either
encrypting a whole folder or not encrypting at all.

However, I would like an option to turn encryption on/off for single
accounts or even better for single folders.

Encryption adds extra security against intruders, but at the same
time, it makes it harder (or impossible) for me to manually inspect a
corrupt message base. I can always open an unencrypted .tbb file in
Notepad and extract as much information as possible, this I cannot do
with an encrypted folder.

For some folders, I would like the extra security encryption brings,
for others, I'd rather have the extra safety of being able to open and
read the message base in my editor of choice.

Max, I would appreciate your comments and thoughts on this. The
decision will always be yours, but I believe we all would gain from
discussing this before you implement it.

Spell Checker Enhancement for Next Beta

2004-11-07 Thread Bill McCarthy
Hello TB Beta List,

Two minor enhancements would make the spell checker
more user friendly:

(1) Add a `Send anyway` dialog to `Cancel` or add a
button to `Send anyway`. As it is, when one mails, say
source code, with many spelling errors one has to
either turn off spell checking or click on `Ignore all`
many times.

(2) Have an option, perhaps under `Check before
Send/Queue` that disables the `OK` dialog at the end of
spell checking.

Only way I can see is to set up a fresh install with encryption enabled and

Fine if like me you don't keep every mail you send and receive but if you

Agree.

IIRC someone suggested encryption on a per folder basis and the ability
to switch back and forth which I think is a good ideal. To be honest I
don't really have anything worth encrypting. As far as I'm concerned the
FBI, NSA, CIA, KGB, XYZ can have a look at my mail base. Nothing to
hide. :-)

I am a little rusty on the encryption process, but do recall there was
symmetric and asymmetric. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Maxim /or
Stefan what process will be used for encryption?

IMAP: Virtual folders and preview pane

2004-11-07 Thread Martin Webster

Hello TBBETA,

When I switch to a virtual folder I usually see the last message
viewed in the preview pane... that is, if the message is from a POP3
account. With IMAP I only see No message loaded with the oldest
messages shown in the message list or the last viewed POP3 message. As
soon as I select an IMAP message it is displayed.

I don't know whether this is a bug or just something that's not
implemented. However, it means virtual folders have limited use when
used with IMAP.

Yes, I tried and all messages were imported correctly. First I tried to
restore messages from backup, but only the folder structure and account
settings were restored. I have also several AV and other errors
(see mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]).

Then I decided to import messages from ordinary copy of my mail directory,
where all data were not encrypted. It was successful, but time-consuming.
Obviously, messages after importing are stored in encrypted form.
Unfortunately, I cannot change any account settings because of AV error:

Access violation at address 008A1E52 in module 'thebat.exe'.
Read of address .

I installed BayesIt! plug and it start working normally. As I wrote
previously, filters are not completely restored, but paste them from text
file is possible.

Now I work with unencrypted form because I was not able to modify accounts.

I attach except.log file generated in encrypted version. Maybe this help
