As always in marketing, 2 experts = 3 opinions (at least). Neither do
I see an excessive specialisation nor do I find diversification a
good idea. It has been done in the past and rarely did a company
benefit from it, to the contrary, most of them lost their core
competency.

And believe me, Germany's companies do learn it the hard way at the
moment, from Hoechst (doesn't exist anymore, and Aventis is in major
trouble) through Bayer, Volkswagen (why did a company subscribing to
selling people's cars go into luxury cars, and why did they not just
buy Bentley and Lamborghini but also come up with the Phaeton under
their own moniker?), DaimlerChrysler, and many others.

Synergieeffekte it was called about ten years ago. Bad cost
management, loss of competency and image it is called now.

I'd like small companies sticking to their guns. And RL does a good

I mentioned both companies for such idiocy. BTW, the smart move by
Daimler-Benz was to give money to Mr Hayek to come up with a small
city car [hopefully someone gets the pun in this sentence]. The stupid
idea was to make it too expensive, buy Hayek out, and now come up with
a bigger four-seater, which is essentially an expensive Mitsubishi
Colt (I think it was the Colt).

Mercedes lost image and credibility over their ventures into areas
that aren't associated with the brand. Not to forget they lost lots of
credibility for poor quality in niche markets (like the US-targeted
M-class, or the A-class, both of which are very poorly build).

If you place the content of the folder together with bayesit.tbp, and if some
fatal crash of The bat! happens, then drwatson's log and minidump will include
much more meaningful info about the crashing (at least, for bayesit's dump). The
file itself was also build with some extra debug info - and this is the reason
why it became 700kb against previous 500. When the bug fighting will be

I have used BayesIt for the past two months and I have no problems
with it at all. At first it did not work, I hated it. But I
reinstalled it anyway and kept trying. One release (forgot the number,
around Oct 1), worked fine and I haven't had a problem since. White
listing lists like this and my address book really helped a lot. I
average about 1200 e-mails daily. In the past two months, I have never
had a good e-mail classified as SPAM (out of about 70,000 e-mails) and
my SPAM classification rate for yesterday was:

---

Regarding base: 42358 word(s)

SPAM: 525
HAM : 452

Total E-mails: 977

False HAM: 1
False SPAM: 0

SPAM Classification Rate:
99.809524 Percent

HAM Classification Rate:
100 Percent

Overall Classification Rate: 99.897646 Percent

I have a quick template that sends this data to me every day at 0600
so I can keep an eye on BayesIt. I am about to make that a weekly
schedule because BayesIt is so good I really don't need to watch it
much. I have had at least 20 days out of the last 60 with 100% error
free classification. As far as I'm concerned, BayesIt is stable,
although I understand no two computers are alike and others may have
difficulties... Keep up the great work Alexey and the Ritlab team!

Re: expired certificate

2004-12-05 Thread Army RedLeg
Hello M.,

Sunday, December 5, 2004, 4:49:07 AM, you wrote:
TLS handshake failure. Invalid server certificate (This certificate
has expired). Of course because of cert expiration I couldn't get new
mails and to do that I had to change my email account configuration
from secure to regular. I was wondering why free programs like Mozilla
let us use expired certificates and TB! does not? In my opinion _using
expired cert is much more secure than using regular connection_.

I can't completely agree with silently being permitted to use expired
certs- false sense of security for those not paying attention. But I
did learn some more in addition to the similar SSL/TLS issues I brought
up at the end of October.

Try something for me, to test it out. Instead of completely degrading
to unsecure mode try StartTLS mode (initial conection made port 110 then
normal TLS established for the remainder of the session)

What I have happen is failure in SSL/TLS mode to dedicated port (995,
993, 465) due to TB choking (and not even allowing me to *view* the
certificates) but does allow me to permit, per session only/no
importing.

What I have found recently is I can get away with StartTLS mode and get
no prompt at all... it just works, no complaints. Now *this* is a bug,
if the first forced fails are by design...

Also, I find TB behaves differently wrt certificate warnings if you are
behind a router/NAT or connected direct along with the SSL/TLS dedicated
vs. StartTLS modes.

How about changing that and give us a choice to use it or not?

AMEN!

I want to be able to view every certificate TB negotiates with as well I
want the option to take authentication on myself and permanently allow
sessions with certs I say are good. I do not care for TB making those
decisions for me- especially since it isn't following any apparent
standard.

sorry for adding my frustration rant to your post- you have resurfaced a
valid issue that seems to die quickly around here- which to me is
surprising since TB! is, IMO, one of the best security focused mail
clients around.

like the concept of the plugin because you can use it with secure
connection. IIRC last time I used PopFile it could only be used with
one.

AM Confirmed here. :(

I know I indicated the contrary but I now confirm.
