It shouldn't be too hard for RIT to give the option for using Word spell

use them just by checking a menu entry. That was written by an Amateur and
wasn't a commercial program, just something he wrote in his spare time so
it shouldn't be too hard for a professional software house to manage.

 them.

When running Office 2000 and below, TB! discovers the CSAPI dictionaries

Re: v17 Searching

2005-04-19 Thread Michael Geyer
Hi graham and list,

am Montag, 18. April 2005 um 21:17 schrieben Sie:

.. I'm still experiencing 2 AV when entering the SEARCH screen.

You're not the only one, same AVs over here. IIRC there was a message
that the number of AVs depends on placing of the toolbars (one, two, or three
lines).

As no-one else seems to be finding this - so I guess the problem
is mine alone, and a probably a configuration error.

The above mentioned dependency makes perfect sense for me that there
is at least one bug left in the new UI which cries to get eliminated
at last :-)

Is there any documentation as to which files I can throw away that
v3 no longer needs? (e.g all the .DEF files, the .TIP files,
 the ... etc)

I don't know - at least not from RIT IIRC. There was mail some time
ago where different files between TB!2 and TB!3 were listed, as I'm
not at home right now I can't dig my message base for this one.

I'd like to know if the newly introduced .def files may now be purged
as v.17 now comes without those (embedded in the exe file in the
meantime?) except tbuser.def that is.

I just want a completely clean setup and
see if this problem goes away

Maybe you could download the current V3 msi installer from RIT's
website, have a fresh install (after a complete backup of course) and
then apply beta 17 again?

are doing with this beta series is a _major_ (quite major) re-work or
re-design of TB. TB is quite a complex program in itself and it would be
quite difficult, almost impossible, to do such a big change as a whole
and all at once and then come out with a beta to discover and fix bugs.

They are doing this in phases or by functionality blocks (if I may
call it that way) even though some additions or changes may not be
apparent from the outside to most mortals. This explains why some new
betas may be seen as a step backwards from the outside because
already fixed bugs seem to appear again.

Have you seen mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] from Gleason Pace?
I fully agree with him.

Having been in software development myself for over 25 years (not in the
last 10 or so though) I can say that I think RIT guys have taken the
safe path and are on the right track by doing what they are doing with
this beta series. Believe me, they are doing a great hard job.

My reasons to revert to 3.0.2.10

2005-04-19 Thread MAU
Hello all,

After deleting my existing tbuser.def and a couple of tweaks I find the
last beta, v3.0.9.17 quite stable and would certainly like to use it all
day long for my work, which is the way I like to test betas.

However, quite unfortunately and as I think I have explained before in
this list, the threading by Reference+Subject which was introduced with
this beta series is a no-no for me and that forces me to revert all
the way to 3.0.2.10.

I know RIT guys intend to re-instate the possibility of threading by
Reference _only_ (and hopefully allowing also Reference+Subject to
satisfy everyone) and I can understand that this is not a high priority
at this time for most users and therefore for RIT. But it does force
me to use 3.0.2.10 during my works hours and I am sorry about it.

3.0.9.17 - Missing key assignments

  Is this ...
a.) just missing from the beta, will be restored soon
b.) dropped from the new version for some reason
c.) moved to where I can't find it
d.) a bug to be addressed

I have had Open Office 1.1.2 for several months and I'm comfortable
enough with the interface to use it for short documents--snail-mail
letters etc.

If I were going to write another book, I believe I'd still use Word,
just because I understand it slightly better.

And, at that, it's a poor choice because it always thinks you're
writing a letter.

My ideal for long composition would be The Bat!'s MicroEd in a

3.0.9.17 Issues

2005-04-19 Thread Stuart Cuddy
Hello TBbeta,

I was just about to answer a question that had been asked about
assigning a shortcut to Mark As Junk when new messages arrived. This
had the undesired effect of the message I was about to answer
disappearing as it had already been marked as read.

This is an old issue and had been corrected. I had noticed that
someone had already reported this as showing up again, but this has
a difference. This time the message seems to have completely
disappeared. I can find it nowhere.

This led me to do a search in The Bat folder for the message, which it
failed to find, but I can now confirm a previous message about new
messages arriving once the search has finished arriving in the
search box even though they don't match the search.

Back to the original post which I no longer have. It was about
trying to add a Mark as Junk shortcut. When I tried adding it to the
menu bar it worked fine and did not require a reboot, but did do

Re: My reasons to revert to 3.0.2.10

2005-04-19 Thread MAU
Hello Prezes,

M However, quite unfortunately and as I think I have explained before in
M this list, the threading by Reference+Subject which was introduced with
M this beta series is a no-no for me and that forces me to revert all
M the way to 3.0.2.10.

Confirmed - this is the reason why I don't use any 3.0.9.x versions,
 but only 3.0.2.10 - and I can't test them...

Well, I have downloaded and installed all of them and do some testing on
my spare time (which is not much). I would be willing to take the risk
of new or unknown bugs by using betas for my normal work which I think
is a good test bed, but I can't do so because the change made to
threading by Reference (which is not a bug).

Good evening tbbeta,

if you change the View threads by mode for a folder, TB asks whether you
want to save the changes to the view mode as soon as you are going to
  leave the folder.

If you change the View threads by mode and click on the - sign in

I think it's worth a discussion which behaviour is the best ;)

still can't run TB on my desktop

2005-04-19 Thread Dwight A Corrin
I have been unable to get TB! to run on my desktop at home for some
months now. I have posted about this a few times and gotten no
answers.

Now, I keep hoping something will change in one of the betas and it
will work, but no luck. No, I am not running any virus checkers. I
know that there was an instruction about being sure to uncheck some
boxes recently, but I can't stay open long enough to look at anything.
Connection Centre runs a brief time, then things just vanish.

I will ask again if there is a way to change settings without having
TB! running which would stop the mail checking, to see if it would
stay open if that wasn't going on?

Do you have the same problem with 3.0.1.33? If so, I think you would
do better seeking help on TBUDL as there are so many issues with the
current beta you may not get a useful reply here.

The lack of useful replies there drove me to pre-betas, and enquiring
here. At least here, there is some chance someone it trying to fix
something. No one, I assume is making repairs to 3.0.1.33, and no one
has ever addressed my question about whether start up settings can be
changed when one is not running, so one can experiment about trying to

You presuppose there's a bug that's causing your problem. Given that
the problem is present from 3.0.1.33 through 3.0.9.17 it may well be
something else in your configuration.

I still reckon you're more likely to get help on TBUDL since your
problem is *not* tied to the current beta.

It is a problem which continues to occur with the current beta. It is

to ask here, and since about three rounds of asking on TBUDL and
similar enquiries by others have not drawn any answers either.

I need to switch between early stable version with accurate and reliable
spell checker and reference only threading for work, and the alpha /
betas for fun at home. I am now able to do this, thanks in the main, to
you :) I have no problem with bizarre behaviour from the new versions,
but it was impacting on work, so I needed to be able to switch around.

Did you try renaming some of the files or directories in The Bat
Folder? Try renaming your mail folder to something else so it isn't
recognized by The Bat. Then create a new Mail Directory with nothing
in it and see if you can start TB. If you can copy an account from
the old directory (with TB closed) and try starting up again.
Continue until you get the error.

If this still doesn't work let us know.
