Interesting that the installations go so differently. I had simply did a
complete install of the pro version.

It proceeded to do everything by itself, i.e., deleting and replacing
files without even prompting for an installation directory.

I was then up and going, and the spell-checker works right.

It's just that in the 'Dictionaries' configuration dialog, American
English is the language that I'm indicated as using. However, when I go
to the Spell-Checker/Language menu, 'British English' is selected.

However, I think that's a longstanding and already reported discrepancy.

That doesn't make much sense with IMAP, do it? The reason to use IMAP is
that one can be sure, someone else makes the backup :-)

nearly 2 mails, but that doesn't pose any problems with
Thunderbird or the webmail interface of gmx.

ThunderBird may not have problems, but TB! seems to unless your

Well, that's leads to the question: Is there an IMAP proxy somewhere out

Well I can still reproduce it in RC9 too. Only other fact I noticed

folder) which causes the cascade of AV's. I don't know if that makes a
difference?

Top posting, i.e., typing all your reply text at the top of your

We would much prefer if you quote just that much of the message to

Integrity checking of the folder Outbox would not be a bad idea

What happens with your setup? What if the sequence 2, 3, 2 is very

Hello George,

If any of those of you who are using my yellowish icons (or other

batskin.xml file in your favourite text editor and change line:

 Using batskin.xml (*) I got small icons. Renaming batskin.xml I got normal
 icon
size but of course cannot use your tip. Any idea ?

Did you start with the batskin.xml I included the my yellowish icons?
Icons sizes should be correct there.

(*) At some point 9val wrote that if we had problems with small icons, delete
or rename batskin.xml. I did that but no new batskin.xml where generated.

No, no batskin.xml is ever generated by TB, just a tbuser.def when you
make any changes to UI.

An archive can be safely stored away somewhere.

But I personally don't wish to archive away messages so quickly, so I
have folders containing thousands of messages.

With a fast connection, TB! is fine. It struggles with a slower
connection, so in that setting I use a different client.

Well, that's leads to the question: Is there an IMAP proxy somewhere out
there? (Answers please also as private copy to me, as I'm away for three

IMAP proxy? Not that I know of. What do you mean?

When you extract a file from an archive just to preview it, the program
does not know where to put it, and uses a temporary file in a temporary

anyway.

Actually, I like this distinction. I want to know if I'm working with a

Re: The Bat! 3.5 Return RC8 is now available

2005-05-13 Thread Allie Martin
On Friday, May 13, 2005 at 5:02:12 AM [GMT -0500], Miguel Urech wrote:

You mean you are satisfied with the way TB handles IMAP now? If so,
that's a really great achievement by RIT guys.

Since v2.x I've had struggles with not only lacking fundamental
features, but moreso, buggy features. Over time, some of the lacking
features have been implemented. However, up until now, there were
problems/glitches with basic operations in both my quick and slower
bandwidth environments. They still exist even with a my fairly slow
connection at work since I'm experiencing frequent disconnects while
browsing, which require manually initiated reconnections.

So, finally, I'm able to work smoothly enough with TB! at home with no
significant issues with currently implemented features. I can certainly
manage this way. The counts still flicker etc and there are pauses at
times with message body retrievals, but these are minor and certainly
tolerable. This is certainly an achievement in itself.

So my current hopes for the future:

Improving what's there already:

- curing the frequent disconnections that are associated with loss of
the ability to auto-connect. This happens with my slower connection
environment.

- improving how multiple connections are utilized. The loading of
message content isn't prioritized enough. IMAP folder message count is
done in the background as soon as it's initiated. The same should happen
for a message content request. Additionally, for multiple connections,
it would seem that using 2 connections works as well as using 4 or 6
since while watching the CC I see only two connections being used
concurrently.

- Importing of messages need to be copied from the cache to the
corresponding IMAP folder on the server. At the moment this doesn't
happen and once you sync the folder, the imported messages are deleted
from the cache since they aren't on the server.

New Stuff

- Incremental handling of messages on the server, i.e., being able to
browse a folder without the entire message list being downloaded to the
cache. I don't know if this one will be implemented, though it's a
powerful feature for IMAP bandwidth use efficiency. With such a model,
you can define how many messages for a folder are loaded when you first
select it for browsing. If you select 100, only the most recent 100
messages are loaded. You can imagine the advantage of this when you have
a folder with 20,000 messages and wish to see new messages in it while
reading from a location with a slow connection.

- The ability to display deleted messages in a special way and also
being able to toggle the delete status. The IMAP standard is that a
redline strike through is added in the message list.

- IMAP flags, especially that for Important. It would work across IMAP
clients.

- A true Draft folder and not the Outbox. The Outbox is a POP concept
that's not working well for IMAP.

- The sound notification responding only to unseen messages.

- more efficient and bandwidth-friendly filtering.

- better handling of multiple attachments in a single message.
Currently, if you wish to view one of the attachments, TB! has to first
retrieve all of them. I can't work like that at work.

So, even if TB! were to work smoothly at work, I still wouldn't use it
because of the attachments handling limitations, the inability to
load message lists incrementally, and the bandwidth dependent filtering.
These three aren't an issue at home where connection speeds buldoze over
them. :)

Hello Allie,

A reminder of what Allie Martin on TBBETA typed on:
  13 May 2005 at 13:03:28 GMT +0200

You may well not be able to mirror my positive experience but you could
give it a go and see.

I'm trying it again. This time I created a new account and didn't try
dragging my existing folders over from my POP account. Just as with Tbird
I didn't need to create any folders, they just appeared.

I did have to copy my filters over though, one by one. It would be nice if
you could copy the whole lot together rather than keep switching account.

It seems to be working OK in as much as so far I only have one of each
 folder and not 15 :)

 But then I demystified Mulberry

I'll have to have a look at that as well. Trouble is I only normally play
with other clients when I'm bored, not out of necessity.

I can't recall that one and don't have ThunderBird installed any longer
 to fiddle around

I'll just reply again with TB!

Just one thing bothers me. How do I sync TB with the server so that what's
deleted here is also deleted there? I had trouble with that yesterday and
it's one of those little niggles that concerns me.

Does that plugin version work with the new NOD32 v2.5 that I just
 upgraded to?

I'm using the very latest version of NOD32 and that pluggin is working
fine here. At least I get no errors like I did at the beginning of this

In the account properties, go to the 'Delete' options and enable mark

Delete your messages in the folder. On exiting the folder, TB! should do

Ahhh, there lies the heart of the matter.

We are talking about a filter tree (as in all filters under Incoming) in

Maybe Ritlabs should make that more clear that _this_ is what tree
means because as it is now, I guess people would interpret it as (any)
