wrong time zone offset fix

The Bat! 5.0.6.1 BETA is available at
http://www.ritlabs.com/download/files3/the_bat/a-5/tb5061.rar

What's new in 5.0.6.1 since 5.0.6:
[-] About didn't display key 'valid until' information
[-] Message List Tabs created in v4 were not converted into the new tabs (Beta
issue)
[-] Fixed a bug of adding a VCF to address bug (BETA issue)
[-] Links could not be opened from the log viewer (Beta issue)
[-] only one IMAP connection's queue could be shown in the Connection Centre no
matter which IMAP connection was selected (Beta issue)
[-] Account selected in combo-box was ignored during redirect (#0008567 related)
[-] The Bat! version 5 did incorrectly displayed message time (there were an
incorrect time zone diff applied) created/received by v4 and before (BETA
ISSUE). Please do not rollback from v5 to v4 since in this case messages will
be again with time incorrectly offset by time zone diff.

Thank you for the information. With all the reliability of the internet it is
still unreliable. Since January 2008 we are using an automated script which
does building, uploading, e.t.c. by itself, and this was the first time when
we had a problem with beta announcement since January 2008. We are however
upgrading the capacity on our server and we are using a virtual server and we
might have done something wrong with file system snapshots by clicking the
upgrade while upload was in place, we will do our best to avoid such oddities
in future.

If you upgrade to v5 and then downgrade to v4, the messages received/created
in v5 will have wrong time depending on time zone difference, the message
base is not backwards compatible.

Question: This is also the case if you only exchange the exes in the Bat!
folder for test purposes?

i. e. NOT installing with msi?

Thanks,
Franz

It doesn't matter whether you just put new EXE or install it via the MSI, the
result will be the same.

UTC time

2011-04-05 Thread Maxim Masiutin
Hello Bob,

Thank you for reorting this issue, we are aware of it, and, moreover, we have
designed it intentionally, unfortunately, as a better solution among other
options.

The users who update from v4 to v5 won't experience the problem that you have
desribed. I mean the users who didn't ever use v5-beta before installing
v5-release.

Only the beta-testers of v5 will suffer, so the messages received or created
in v5-beta will have wrong time. Messages received in v5-release will have
correct time even if the tester have used v5-beta berore. We can't do
otherwise, becuase in 5.0.6.1 we have implemented a new bit in each message
stored in MESSAGES.TBB. If this bit is set, then the internally stored time
is assumed to be stored in UTC. If this bit is not set, we assume the message
was received or created by v4 and the time is assumed local time. In v5-betas
prior to 5.0.6.1 there were no such bit yet but the time was already in UTC
so we unfortunately must assume it is in local time. Please excuse me if I'm
not crystal clear or my explanation is quircky.

Actually, I think your explanation was VERY clear - especially
admirable when I consider that English is not your primary language!
I am still getting over the trauma of studying Latin in the 9th and
10th grades (1956-58).

This disruption wasn't a major issue for me, as I mentioned, and it
only affected a few messages. I appreciate your good explanation.

Sorting maybe, but not the rest of the view modes. If I switch between my IMAP
and POP accounts and view my TB view mode in each, one time it is expanded and
the next it isn't. Also view modes do not hold in some accounts.

I also have messages that get colored that do not stay colored anymore. This
used to be working well, but has gone down hill.

I'm glad I won't have the problem when the download complete and I
install the new .exe over my v4 version.

I also understand now why the messages received in v5 will show wrong
time (i.e. assumed UTC) when downgrading. Knowing that it is always a
7-hour difference and not random hours or days makes me feel better.
