Howdy Mary, Monday, October 9, 2006, 11:10:35 PM, Mary wrotened: MB Therefore, my feature wish is for an Alert Box, which, when I change MB the handle in the To: field, after typing in the message body because MB my attention was distracted, will pop up. MB It might say something like (and a big thank-you to Alexander Kunz for MB this suggestion): MB === MB Warning - the TO address uses a different message template than the one MB that was initially applied. Do you want to discard any changes in the MB editor and apply the new template? YES/NO MB === I've been watching this topic in this thread and the other for a while. And to be honest I am not sure on which side of the fence I sit. However if it is a problem, then we are missing a large part of the argument. I know Mary's point of view is focusing on the security aspect (which I believe to be a slightly erroneous aspect of the argument as I don't believe any security will be able to prevent anyone determined enough from reading your mail, but then I have not really looked into or read up about the security aspect and this is not on the topic we are here to discuss), however the point about template being applied after editing the message body is interesting. Personally having several accounts with slightly different templates for each one I have noticed this problem previously. If I have one account currently selected, and viewing from the mail ticker select a message, that has been sent to another account, TB will invoke the template that responds to the account selected in the main TB window. Now as far as I can see this is a similar situation to Mary's, where TB invokes the wrong template, or rather a template that we didn't want. I haven't really thought of whether this behaviour is feature or bug. I'm just used to it. Re[2]: New Feature Wish
Howdy Mary, Tuesday, October 10, 2006, 12:21:12 AM, Mary wrotened: Personally having several accounts with slightly different templates for each one I have noticed this problem previously. If I have one account currently selected, and viewing from the mail ticker select a message, that has been sent to another account, TB will invoke the template that responds to the account selected in the main TB window. MB Yes, I have struggled with this behavior, also. MB I found that the only thing I could effectively do was delete the MB message, move to the account whose From template I wished to appear MB in the new message headers, and start over. There is another work around for this. Before you edit the message body go to optionsactive account and select the account whose default template you wish to use, and TB will change the message body to that template. However if you do it after you have edited the message body the template stays as initially selected, even though it will send through the other account. MB So, I have attention lapses more often than I used to. And it would be MB nice if TB! could be coded some way that I could Customise it to MB protect myself. MB If not, I shall just go on living with it. I agree, that it would be handy to have a warning message so that I could change the template that is being used, but I feel it should be turned off by default. Though having said that I normally hate warning messages, and I would most likely turn it off or ignore it. As I said before theres for and against then theres me on the fence. MB But I shall certainly not invoke the address of new messages by typing MB in manually the handle any more, for my contacts in whose Properties MB I have %ENCRYPTCOMPLETE in the New Message template. I don't use either of those features anyway, so I am not in a position to comment. Now as far as I can see this is a similar situation to Mary's, where TB invokes the wrong template, or rather a template that we didn't want. I haven't really thought of whether this behaviour is feature or bug. I'm just used to it. MB I'm used to it to. MB And I think it is the same sort of coding which produces it, as MB produced my really bad experience today. I think that user friendliness is a valid thing for programmers to go for, without sacrificing the functionality. If adding something makes the program easier to use then I am for it, having said that though we don't want TB to become so bloated with additional things that don't add real substance. So to sum up. I don't know whether I am in favour or against. Plus I am babbling. Just my (largely irrelevant) 2p. MB I think your 2p is right on the money, Ben. MB And now I'm used to this ignoring of my PGP template. Again not using security I can't give an informed opinion about this. MB Thanks a mil for joining the discussion, Ben. Of course, if you manually park any message in Outbox you won't be able to tell the difference between Parked and Draft messages. But aren't you being a bit picky about TB? I had to write it :) V Why would anyone park a message in Outbox if not for later editing??? V We lived w/o Draft, we get used to it, dont change it... If it was there what harm would it do? Howdy Kevin, Thursday, June 30, 2005, 8:21:51 PM, Kevin wrotened: It's kind of ironic that right now all the complaining is about betas which act like betas, when just a few weeks ago there was all this complaining because there was no aggressive beta cycle going on. There was so much begging that we got an alpha, then there was complaining because the alpha had bugs and AVs. KM I wasn't part of that discussion, but I'd hardly say matters have KM improved much. Just a couple hours ago, we had two betas released KM back to back because the first one was broken. For some. I have not had a broken one yet. Each beta I have tested in this cycle downloads my email and I can read it. I'm not saying that people who have problems should be ignored nor am i saying that there arent improvements to be made. I would say that while I'm not a professional chef, I can judge when food is palatable to me, when it has too much salt etc. Usually when it isn't spicy (piquant) enough, it's way to hot for others to eat, but my tongue still knows. Past that, however, I tend to defer to the experts on lots of the technical matters. KM We can keep going down the analogy road . . . KM Say you order a steak, and it comes back uncooked. You might see some KM grill marks, but it's quite evident it hasn't been cooked. Presuming KM you've actually cooked before, and probably do so on a regular basis, KM you've got a pretty good idea what the problem is. Certainly you know KM what the symptoms are. Would you not then be equipped to pas KM judgement on the chef's process? Or do you really feel that all you KM can say is this steak is too rare? I'd ask for a raw egg and have steak tartare... Btw is there such a thing as undercooking a steak? Personal preference I suppose. Still as they say if life gives you lemons... Anyway what I'm prattling on about is that we all want to use TB! We want it to be the best it can be. Sometime I do feel some people do get overly vitriolic about things but then there are entitled to express there opinions and I have no problem with people feeling committed to TB! (or maybe the money they spent on purchasing it). MB It drives me to distraction in v. 2.12.00, which I'm still running. MB But just give me time to finish backing everything up, and I shall MB purchase, download, and install v. 3.0. MB I can as well wait for the mail ticker to get fixed using 3.0 as using MB 2.12.00. Or, them's my sentiments, anyway. I will be gentle... Just picked a bad few days to not check the bat lists as there was rather a lot of mail recently. Makes ticker jumping even more annoying. Still nevermind I found one workaround that works for me with my keyboard layout. When it jumps i use Pgup to go to a read message the Ctrl+ - to move to the next unread message. Howdy Kevin, Sunday, June 27, 2004, 11:28:08 PM, Kevin wrotened: KJMJ So, as a feature, tb! shouldn't display images automatically in KJMJ messages marked as spam. Then you only have to worry about false KJMJ negatives, which are typically far and few between. I think this KJMJ is the way Apple's Mail.app works . . . I use TB! filters to filter spam as opposed to a plugin so marking as spam does very little apart from add clicking wear to my mouse. (I have nearly worn out my left mouse button!!) tciker jumping WAS (Re[2]: mercy on the smiley noise)
Howdy Paul, Friday, June 25, 2004, 3:44:20 PM, Paul wrotened: PC it happens to me every day, and it is easily duplicated. PC when I have large amounts of mail to sift through, it is almost PC impossible for me to use the ticker, I have to use the unread tab in the PC regualr window. Otherwise I get dizzy as it jumps all over the page. PC first DOWN, then UP, then DOWN.. who knows where. PC I might add, of course that means I need more than a screenful of PC messages, because it DOES jump down the list, off the page, into another PC account, every time. SO, I need more than 1 account to have mail unread, PC and more than a screenful of messages. Given those circumstances, it PC happens every time. When I keep up with mail, and only a few show up, of PC course it can't happen. Thats my experience exactly... if i come home from work to look at my email... I'll probably have about 300 mails waiting for me across 5 accounts. Anytime spam gets to my inbox i create a filter to move redirect all mail from that address or on that subject to my spam folder.
