A I'm quite sure that RitLabs does BVTs before they release an

M Now, if you are threading by Subject (like I am assuming you do), then
M you are darn right and Ctrl+V does move the entire group in 3.99.29 and
M it doesn't in 4.0.0.7.

Yes, I'm threading by subject. You're completely right.

M But that is only if you are threading by subject and you select the
M 'name of the group'. If you select any actual message in the group, only that
M message is moved.

M When threading by Reference, like I do in 99.99% of my folders, then
M Ctrl+V does only move the first message of the thread (if that's the one
M selected), and this is so in 3.99.29 and 4.0.0.x.

Ok, point taken.

M Now, no matter if threading by Subject or by Reference, if you select
M ANY message in a thread (or group) and you use Shift+Ctrl+V, the entire
M thread (or group) will be moved. And this was so in 3.99.29 and still is
M so in 4.0.0.7.

Ok.

M With all of this, my opinion is that the behaviour in 3.99.29 (and
M previous?) when using Ctrl+V on the name of a group was the buggy one,
M and that it is working correctly now. It's just my opinion.

I disagree! :)
Ritlabs should work some way to have only ONE shortcut to move

Good! :)

Ritlabs should work some way to have only ONE shortcut to move
messages no matter if it was a single message, a subject group or a
 reference *thread*.

M Not easy. If you select a single message in a proper thread, even
M if it is the first one, how can TB know if you want to move the
M whole thread or just the selected message? By asking with an
M options dialog?

I don't know what's your definition of thread but lets assume that it
a group of messages related by reference, subject, sender or any other
in common characteristic.

If you select the row that aggregates the thread it should interpret as
a move thread. Anything else should be considered as a move
message(s).

M But I am beginning to think you may be right in one way. In the
M case of subject groups, if you select the group name, then
M there is no doubt if what you want to do is move a single message
M (because the group title isn't a message) or the entire group.
M Similarly to what Windows does when in Explorer you select a file
M or a folder and use Ctrl+X-Ctrl+V.

M Anyway, and in case you don't know, dragging the 'group name' of a
M subject group to a different folder does still move the entire
M thread (group).

Yes it does but it's not as simple as using the shortcut. I would have
to open the folder tree prior to move the messages.

M Can I ask you something? It's just curiosity but, about how many
M messages on the average you move per minute? OK, let's make it per hour.
M And complete threads? As I said, just curious ;-)

Several time otherwise I wouldn't notice it.

I follow TBBeta threads on a folder where I receive everything
received from the list and when that thread gets dead I move it to a
folder related to the year the message arrived.

HO features of TB! to create any view (s)he wants.

If people want a different thing, I would vote for an Import date
thus leaving us with Create, Receive and Import/Archived.

As I said previously, I think TB needs a 3rd date and I'll vote for
that.

HO If (s)he is not willing to understand the features that TB!
HO offers, (s)he can move to an other eMail client. There are 30 days
HO of free trial to test TB! before buying.

Re[2]: Interface Inconsistencies

2007-08-24 Thread Goncalo Farias

In reply to mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] :

HO TB! is importing eMail as-is. Please inform you before making
HO statements that are wrong. The date used in Received column is not
HO extracted from the eMails, but is the date TB! received the eMail, and
HO this by any vector you want: POP3, IMAP, .MSG or UNIX Mailbox on
HO USB-stick, DVD, download
HO This info is not stored in the headers of the eMails. And this
HO behaviour is good. Otherwise one will entirely depend of correct
HO configuration of time and timezones of sender and mailservers.

HO Anyway, if _you_ need an other behaviour, _you_ can obtain this
HO behaviour by using correctly the graphical interface of TB!.

So when you import your email, the received and created field will be
identical since they decided that they'd go an complicate and confuse
things by adding a header that is clearly _not_ required.

HO TB! adds _no_ header. Please really inform you before speaking. Press
HO F9 to visualize the complete source of each message in TB!

Every email program has the subject, sender, recipient, data, size and
then you have additional stuff like attachments and whatnot.

So when my email from 1996 has a received 'date' of 1996 and then I
expect it to TB! and it comes up under 'received' date of the day of
the export and again under the 'created' date which is the actual and
 accurate data, its just wrong.

HO Do not mix up received and created
HO export and import

HO If you are interested to sort your eMails in the way it is comfortable
HO for you, you can do it. If you do not want to do it yourself, you can
HO try that other will do it for you. But I am not certain that they will
HO do it, as many other people will be offended by the way _you_ prefer
HO the sorting.

HO The fact that TB! is managing himself the dates of reception is an
HO important feature for _me_.

HO This are my last 2 cents on this topic.

And you may very well write in your _very_ famous blog that they
changed it blah blah blah and that your advice is to NOT use TB,
etc, etc...

Very well said. However with the following lines it seems that we
are moving to a dangerous ground:

I'll mention it on my blog, it will get read - millions and
millions of times. Then everyone even thinking of switching email
programs will then get to decide (after reading my documentation
of the anomaly) if they want an email program, in this case TB!,
manggling their email and screwing up their otherwise perfectly
 normal views. My guess

Don't get me wrong but the above looks suspiciously like blackmail.
And *this* will certainly NOT help The Bat!. Of course it's your
opinion and well in your rights to publish however this is *YOUR*
blog. Unless you allow RITLABS a formal answer it seems more than
revenge/blackmail because The Bat! doesn't work the way that you
want it and you are bashing it because of that.

I Yes, I see how that can be misconstrued, but blackmail (a rather
I strong term) it is not.

I The point is, if I don't like something or I have an issue with it,
I I have the right to say so. On my blog, I write about a range of
I issues, from Microsoft's borking of Vista and then trying to use
I the video gaming community to spearhead its adoption, hence making
I DX10 exclusive to it, to Google complying with communist China's
I demands about access to their search portal. Nobody accused me of
I blackmail!!

Because those are BIG companies that can AFFORD that. In fact, those
companies are used to that kind of attitude. A small company can't
afford that kind of
do_it_as_I_want_or_I'll_post_a_bash_review_on_my_blog attitude.

I In fact, there are hundreds of Internet wide post about email
I programs, including the Bat! Most of those posts, reviews etc are
I about shortcomings, failures, security holes etc in them.

We've been using this email client longer than you do and I haven't
found this a shortcoming... you're not alone, I presume, but you're in
a tiny minority.

I Not sure what that means VB.

I Sure this person could just be being facetious with his comments
I and the fact that the IP resolves out of Atlanta, but then why
I would he not have posted via the list that being the case?

I've sent you one email off-list, so what?

I That email address is not on the mailing list AFAIK. The fact that
I they went out of their way to use an anon (and being _stupid_
I enough to think that there is such as thing as anon when it comes
I to being online) to send that to me directly means that (apart from
I being cowardly bastards) they have an idea of who I am, quite apart
I from my Atlanta IP (which is meaningless).

I Jake will be able to trace the IP right to the _desktop_ the email
I came from. Its what he does for a living. He's very - very - good
I at it.

I I love a good witch hunt. At least it will spur some more
I excitement on the list. Right up to their eventual ban (I hope).

Re[9]: Interface Inconsistencies

2007-08-23 Thread Goncalo Farias

In reply to mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] :

Don't say it wrong because it not! It seems that you didn't understand
 what I meant.

I Hey, its wrong to _me_. So of course I can say its wrong.

But it's not.

I functionality of the 'attachment display' has nothing to do with
I 'randomnesss' since the population of that [attachments] list is not
I random i.e. it displays attachments, not random bits of data objects
I pulled from elsewhere (as in random).

Do you read everything I write? I'll try again!

Imagine that you receive an email with the following attachments:

winter.jpg, autumn.jpg, summer.jpg and spring.jpg

If you want, with the pane mode, you may select any random set of the
above list of attachments and delete it (ie: (winter, autumn),
(summer, sprint, winter), (winter, summer) you name it).

To be coherent with your arguments, the button view should mimic the
possibility to select any arbitrary set of files from the attachment
list for deletion.

What I meant was that, if you have files 1, 2, 3 and 4 you are able to
 select 1 and 3, 2 and 4, 2 and 3, 1,2 and 4, etc and then delete those
 files.

So, you can select a random SET of the AVAILABLE attachments for
deletion (and actually delete them) and that's not possible with the
 button view.

I Now you're confusing the issue. There is no call of obfuscation.

No, I'm not.

I We're not talkin about randomness of attachments. We're tallking
I about two views, holding the same information, but one not allowing
I the flexibility as the other.

That's exactly what I'm pointing out. There are some things that you
can do with the pane view that are not possible with the button view!
Period!

As James Kanze explained on comp.lang.c++.moderated, DMC++ is

Hi,

In reply to mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] :

I 1) Why is there no 'Delete All' option when you click on the
I attachment tab in the viewer page? If there are several attachments
I and you want to delete them, you have to repeat the 'Delete' action
I numerous times. God help you if some relative decides to send you a
I ton of pictures of their new baby voted most likely to be the next
I anti-Christ. That means in order to delete 24 pictures of the next
I anti-Christ, you have to do a total of (24*3) clicks. That, to me, is
I patently unacceptable.

You can select all you need to delete and just hit del! :)
So there's really no point to have a delete all, I guess.

Zygmunt Wereszczynski is quite right. The Received column means
Received by TheBat! and not Received by the last mailserver.

I We _know_ that. But its wrong and unconventional. Apart from the
I fact that its not the RFC standard.

I The Bat is not technically receiving the email. It is being
I imported. It should _leave_ the headers as they are without
I injecting that condition in it, which is what is causing the

Then, in addition to the receive date it should have an import date.
