No, if after having explained at least 10 times what I am doing, I still get

Maybe in this mailing list, but then this is a tiny exception. No other of
the dozen or more I am subscribed to is text only. Unfortunately configuring
text-only for this mailing list in TheBat! doesn't work. It is tedious to do
this on a message by message basis, and I beg the participants pardon if I

Besides, this outmoded refusal of HTML formatted messages here might be

It appears that you are slowly leaving courtesy lands and mentally return to the wild times of elementary school.

You seem to be employing something "nobody else does" and complaining you make manual errors at that, request what no one else whats and what, in fact, has earlier been abolished, confuse non-present features with bugs and refuse advice. Then you say your last words and attempt to cut the discussion.
Good luck with that. But better without.

If I may have one wish, it's a good practice in mailing lists not to send in HTML messages. You seem to be the second here who sends them in. Would you consider using another TheBat! feature and set a correspinding mail format for the TheBat! list folder?

The Bat! will present that header, or any other, if it is included in the

OK, I'll try to find out how to create a special filter for this mailing
list.

Anyway, The Bat! has many issues with HTML, the worst being trying to set up
nested tables instead of using enclosing the quoted text in "" and
""

Using HTML on this list could help to clean up that mess.

No, no, the proper one is "Header field = List-ID contains
tbbeta.thebat.dutaint.com".

The List-ID according to RFC 2919 https://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2919.txt is the
proper way to filter mailing lists (as long as the mailing list is properly set
up).

That works, it is just an error of The Bat! not to offer this filtering
criterion in the user interface, forcing the user to type in "List-ID" for each
and every mailing list filter.

But, a FROM free form name of only a given name, and a one word Subject line

With the accounts whose mailbox addresses have a public exposure and thus are prone to spam, I check new mail with the "Postfachinspektor" as TheBat! calls that in German, and delete everything which looks like spam, before downloading them from the server to my PC. So I had nearly deleted those three messages from complete strangers with a one-word Subject line typical for spam messages.

To avoid losing messages on the TBbeta mailing list which might be interesting to me, I proposed to get Mailman to mark the messages with the message name, as all other mailing lists which I subscribe to.

You do manual spam filtering with the Despatcher before downloading? Wow. You must have a lot of time on your hands.

I, on the other hand, have limited space on my screen and I don't need the subject to take space for the list name, as the mail is already in the list folder. So I know to which list it belongs, and I prefer to have space for the actual subject rather than redundant information.

With the accounts whose mailbox addresses have a public exposure and thus
are prone to spam, I check new mail with the "Postfachinspektor" as TheBat!
calls that in German, and delete everything which looks like spam, before
downloading them from the server to my PC. So I had nearly deleted those three
messages from complete strangers with a one-word Subject line typical for spam
messages.

To avoid losing messages on the TBbeta mailing list which might be
interesting to me, I proposed to get Mailman to mark the messages with the
message name, as all other mailing lists which I subscribe to.

If you set up your filters correctly, only real list mails will make it into the TBBETA folder. And the list will not let anybody who is not a member post ot it.

Please do not let the whole list membership suffer because your filters are not set up correctly - we'll be happy to help you with it.

Open parenthesis in subject hangs TB! IMAP download

2013-03-13 Thread Tony Hoare
Hello tbbeta,

If an income message has an open parenthesis in the subject, TB! hangs
on downloading it. Outlooks downloads it correctly.

Looking at the IMAP log it would appear the the server does not
deliver the message to TB! However, as I said Outlook downloads it
correctly so I don't believe that it's the server at fault.

I now think that TB! only records logging info after the message has
been partly processed by TB! and is not the raw socket data...

This has been plaguing me for months and months and I can now recreate
it at will by sending myself a message with an open parenthesis in the
subject.

I'll forward a copy of this message to RitLabs with an open paren.

Error message when sending a mail: Message from XXXX, subject Re: YYYYY, is not properly addressed

2011-09-02 Thread Viktor Kabelac

Hello,

this is a message I got once earlier, today again. After replying to all
to a message that contained people in To: and CC: and adding one BCC:, I
got this message as a pop-up window:

Message from , subject Re: Y, is not properly addressed

Whatever I change on the addresses, doesn't seem to change anything on the
outcome.
TheBat! doesn't seem to have even communicated until this message came.
The SMTP log doesn't contain anything to this send attempt.

Do you have any idea where this problem could originate? When does TheBat!
produce this message?

UPDATE: this problem now seems to affect all accounts in my Thebat! I
cannot send any mail from TheBat! at this moment (this is an alternative
client, sorry if message arrives as HTML).

Thank you, best regards.

Hello Roelof,

I use the newest TB Beta, but it also affects the latest V5 MSI (and I
actually later found forum messages as old as 2005, with no useful answer).

I use Antispam Sniper, but also tried to deactivate it - no change.

What do you mean by template? Mail template? I use none.

The problem occurs in ANY mail, even the simplest, I try to send since
today.

I have developed a hypothesis:
- today, I tried to download mails from a quite flawed POP3 server.
- after that I get this error, no matter what I uninstall, reinstall or
delete, the one thing that remains constant is the message base
- is there a chance that te flawed server sent *something* (like a
syntactically completely wicked sender, recipient address etc) and this
address got recorded in some of TBs central account files so that any
attempt to use this file ends with an error, ultimately leading to this
message?

Something like the address book or address history comes to my mind.
Unfortunately I haven't been able to find any file that had been changed
today and seemed to contain addresses.

RITLabs - could you maybe please shed some light on when TheBat!
displays such a message i the first row? What is it checking? Is the
check based on any msgbase files that get modified by downloaded messages?

 Re: BETA (was: Re: 4.0.0.19)

That's WRONG! If it would ever be implemented, it should be
 Re: BETA (was: 4.0.0.19)

Good idea! - My favorite news client (40tude Dialog) does so, too:
If you edit the subject line of a reply the client sets the original
 subject in brackets like above.

I found a (quite good) solution for this problem:

a) Semiautomatic

- Create a Quicktemplate and (out of convenience) assign a shortcut:

  %If:%Subj%OSubj:%Subject='Re: %Subj (was: %OSubj)':%Subj

- Reply to a message and edit the Subject line
- Hit Shortcut
- Be happy! :-)

b) Automatic

- Include the macros in your reply template:

  %If:%Subj%OSubj:%Subject='Re: %Subj (was: %OSubj)':%Subj

- Reply to a message and edit the Subject line
- Be happy! :-)

Pro solution a):

You can run the QT at any time even if the textbody of the new message
is already modified.

Pro solution b):

The macros run really automatically! :-) But there are two
limitations:

1. The template must not contain the macro: %ModifyOnce(Subject)
2. The textbody must *not* be modified *before* you change the subject
   line.

Maybe some of you like this solution, too. ;-)

Cheers!

Feature Request Rewrite Subject

2009-07-27 Thread Jens Franik
Guten Tag   The Bat! Beta,

is there any chance to rewrite the Subject by a filter.

I have:

Subject: [Company of all People in Baden-Wuerttemberg]

and i want to rewrite it to:

Subject: [All People BW]

Reason: then i can see the important rest of the Subject in the Mail
Overview...

Re: Feature Request Rewrite Subject

2009-07-27 Thread Vili
is there any chance to rewrite the Subject by a filter.

During the time it is not implemented:
- new filter
- condition: any message
- action: set memo. template: %Subject
- ok

Make the Memo field visible and you can edit that.

Maybe you can make up a template that use the memo filed when reply...

The wish is in Bugtrack for quite some time, and I support it.

It should be easy to implement and would finally be something very useful and a
unique advantage of The Bat, as most other Mailers can't do it.

Pocomail is one that does. I think there are a couple of popular email
progs that have this feature (Please - lets not start the program war
again. IF you really love Pine over the Bat, stick with it silently)
