Mass mailing function

2020-03-07 Thread Maik Lehmberg
Hello,

unfortunately the serial mail function does not work in
the new beta either. Yesterday I created a bug tracking
entry.

If you select an address book group and link it
to a quick template (Menu File – New – Mass mailing
using quick template, desired quick template), emails
are created. However, the recipient address is not
inserted and at the same time the salutation macro does
not work. Can anyone confirm that?

Re: Mass mailing - Newsletter - SOLVED

2008-03-08 Thread Gunivortus Goos
Hi,

those, who tried to help me using TB for a Newsletter, thanks.

 1) open editor and write a message
 2) select whole message and use Utilities | Create a Quick template
 3) enter name and description for this Quick template:B
...etc.

I seriously tried it, but it's too spartanic for me, every time I
will create and send a newsletter doing those technical things,
it's not comfortable enough.

So I left TB and choose for the easy way; I'm misusing now my
mailserver for it; created a mailinglist, configured it a one-way-one
and added the members in one run. New members can subscribe
themselves through my webpage.
(That's to say, my son configured it for me. :-) )

Now I can simply use TB for writing my html newsletters in colours
and with pictures and send them to the list.

Step 3: Open an empty 'Edit Mail Message' (F5).
Now write what ever you like to have in the the Newsletter
  including all format.

Step 4: Copy the whole Text with 'Ctrl-C' and return to the Address
Book and select again: 'File - Mass Mailing using template'
Now you should see your QT-Name and Description
  Select it!
Make further Selection as you need (I usually put all in the
Outbox fist - just in case)
Hit 'Go' (If all is first in the Outbox then go there and
  process)
You are done - Enjoy! :)

For me this has always worked fine. As you can see, the %CLIPBOARD
Macro is the trick. Every time you have a new Newsletter, just write
it in a new Edit Message Window, Ctrl-C then run QT as in 'Step 4'.

Mass mailing - Newsletter

2008-02-22 Thread Gunivortus Goos

My small oder Newsletter program doesn't work under Vista well, so I
thought, I could easily use TB for it, 'cause in the Help is a
'tutorial' for mass mailings. Wow, that's far to meagre. It's ment
for sending everytime the same mail to a group of people, I want once
a month sending a new newsletter. Then there's nothing helpfull like
some wizard, as f.i. with the creating of a new account. Making new
quick templates, making some new group in the addressbook.
I'm quite disappointed of TB at this point.
I've to seek/buy a much more handsome newsletter program.
Maybe a suggestion for the development team to improve this?

Yes, it is meant to send the same email (e.g. a newsletter) to a group
of people. But this doesn't mean that it has to be the *same* email
(newsletter) every month.

Anyway Gunivortus, this is TBBeta. I personally think you message fits

What happens to me is that no messages are created at all, anywhere in

Create message filters and mass mailing issues

2007-10-02 Thread Marck D Pearlstone
Dear All,

1) Mass mailing does not work here at all.
2) Filters that have create message actions fail to do so.

Extract from a previous post to *bump* the issue into the daylight
again:

@26-May-2007, 10:03 Marck D Pearlstone [MDP] in
mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] said to Mark:

MP Seeing your message I tried out the QT that did not work. Turned
MP out to be a shared QT that I tried to use from within another

MDP This is what's happening. No warnings. I edited down to a simple
MDP QT for testing. Still not a lot.

... snip

MP I suppose your problem is anoter one, though. You're sure you
MP have selected addresses to send the message to?

MDP Yes - all 85 of them! I shall carry on tweaking and poking until
MDP I get it right I suppose.

I have not been able to get it right. It still does not work.

Also on the still not working list is create message filter
action. Filters that once ticked on in autonomous usefulness now sit
and stare blankly at me with Do it yourself emanating from their
apathetic faces.

These 2 bugs have effectively removed two of the three main features
that have tied me to TB as a mail client. The 3rd and final must have
feature in my must use TB list are the templates and macros.

These 2 functions switched from working to dead-in-the-water when I
moved my setup from my XP-Pro configured AMD Athlon 64 based laptop to
a new Intel dual core Vista Ultimate laptop using restore from TBK
file during setup. This may be related.

My pleas for confirmation seem to have left me as an isolated case on
both of these issues.

Max: is there anything I can do to help you find out why this is
happening in my installation? Any clues as to how to reinstate TB as
my irreplaceable life-line to all that is email?

I'm posting here, wondering if it's some kind of beta buglet.

% in mass mailing: Is this a known bug?

2006-10-06 Thread Costas Papadopoulos
Hello,

I created a message using the Addressbook menu entry Mass mailing
using template. My message happened to have a number with a %
symbol (30%). I noticed that the final message had omitted the %
symbol.

The message was correctly formatted when I added a second percent
symbol to the number concerned i.e. I wrote the number as 30%%.

Is this something new or is it a known feature?

Confirmed.

Write a BT, I support it. I use remote Outbox, 0 is the count after
there are the two QT generated test messages in my Outbox. If I hit
Syncronize, the messages vanish. Bug.

I know, the cause, too: TB! does not recognize that the account has a
remote Outbox when putting the QT generated mails in the Outbox. So,
when you syncronize it, it of course vanish, as it checks the server
side outbox (nothing there) and updates (deletes) the QT generated
mails from your (local) outbox.

It works fine if you use local Outbox...

Hello Paul,

V Paul. Based on your mail, you did not follow the procedure. Please,
V first try what I wrote and based on your answer, we can continue the
V discussion.
V Me, as a logical-minded :)) chemist, the process is totally illogical.
V Correction: buggy.
I apologize for not reading more carefully. However, I disagree that
it is a bug even though it works as you describe. For me it is a
 feature.

But you have to admit, that 99% of the people would not consider it as
a feature, and it is a strange feature :)) Put mails from a
sender to an other account's outbox...

How else can you create messages with the From: and Reply-To: for
one account and use the SMTP server of another account to send the
 messages?

Very simply: IF TB! would work okay, and would put the generated mails
into account1's outbox (where it should be), you simply move them to
account2's outbox... It would be the logical way...

An example, I want to send a mass mailing to 100 people and have
them respond with a reply to Account 1. However, Account 1 restricts
me to sending 20 messages at one time and will not accept any
sending messages if the count exceeds 20. So, I send them from
Account 2 which has no restrictions but the replies will come to
Account 1 where I want them.

??? Set the same SMTP for account1 that is set to account2... I dont
see your point...

As a database application programmer this action seems logical. When
you begin a new message the From and Reply-To are the first things to
be established. This is a function of new message process.

Why would one do this? Because they forgot which account to start
from? I can not think of another reason. It is so easy to correct the
From: and Reply-To: fields in a message that I believe it is a good
idea to keep things as they are. I do not see this as a bug.

I have had occasions where I wanted to send a message from an account
that didn't establish it because the SMTP server of the establishing
account was down. It those instances I did _not_ want the From: and

I can NOT confirm empty 'From' 'Reply-To' fields. I do confirm the
fact the 'From' 'Reply-To' fields have Account1 rather than Account2
which is the outbox account the email was placed during the mass email.

I checked my template and found there the macro %Account=%ABToMemo. Of
course, this is responsible in my case for empty sender fields, because I
selected random entries in Address Book. If I used another QT, then sender
entries in mass email was the same as in original account. The bug is fully
confirmed.

Hi Greg,

On 8/27/2005 Greg Strong wrote:

An example, I want to send a mass mailing to 100 people and have them
respond with a reply to Account 1. However, Account 1 restricts me to
sending 20 messages at one time and will not accept any sending
messages if the count exceeds 20. So, I send them from Account 2 which
has no restrictions but the replies will come to Account 1 where I
 want them.

GS So why did you create the mass mailing feature on the account with the
GS limit in the first place?
The answer to this is found in the first 2 sentences above.

GS If you were a savvy user of mass mailing would you create a mass
GS mailing QT in an account which limits sending when the limit exceeds
GS 20 and then use another account for sending while keeping your
GS original 'From' 'Reply-To' headers?
Re-read the first 2 sentences of my reply to Vili as shown above.

GS If you try the template above the %FROMADDR macro provides Account1
GS when sending from Account2 with the mass mailing feature. What if I
GS want Account2 in the body?
I'd say you have a problem. I will say that address change notices
should always be sent from the new account! To fix this dilemma create
the mass mailing in the account with the new address and highlight the
messages and move all them at once by dragging to the other account.
Works very well and I have used this regularly.

GS I'm not quite sure the intent of what was suppose to be in the 'From'
GS 'Reply-To' headers was ever clearly thorough enough. I suppose the
GS developers could only say, but I do now see that from a user's
GS perspective that the 'From' 'Reply-To' headers may be Account1 or
GS Account2 depending upon the user's intent for the QT.
Qt's can be shared by all accounts. They do not have to be account
specific.

IMAP: Missing mail when using Mass mailing

2005-08-26 Thread Peter Fjelsten
Hello beta testers.

If I make a QT and use this as basis for a mass mailing, saving the
resulting mail as Drafts in the (remote) outbox, I experience the
 following problems:

The messages are visible in the outbox bit the count is 0 indicating
   they aren't uploaded properly.

If I send the messages, they are not moved to sent mail - so they
   disappear completely.

It has like this in the 3.60 betas but also in one or two versions
 before this.

Mass mailing, bug

2005-08-26 Thread Vili
Hello,

It's a long time bug (not v3.60), I always forgot to report:

- Select Account1
- Open Address book, File, Mass mailing using template, select a
quick template
- Active account, select Account2
- I personally select Action: Put in Outbox, but I guess you can
select something else, too
- Click OK

The mails will be in the Outbox of Account2, but sender is the email
of Account1.

Please confirm and I will write a BT.

How to add Create Mass Mailing dialog on the toolbar?

2005-04-24 Thread Costas Papadopoulos
Hello,

I finally dared to try out the latest beta version. Everything is
working fine so far.

I would like to ask if there is a way to add an icon to the Standard
Toolbar regarding the Address Book dialog which is normally found by
opening the AB and choosing the File -- Mass Mailing Using Template
item.

I don't want to see on the Standard Toolbar a list of the actual Quick
Templates that are used in the above dialog. I only wish to bring to
the foreground the specific dialog, allowing me to choose a Quick
Template, edit it, put the message in the Outgoing folder etc.

Thanks Allie. Your clarification of what I was looking for is
accurate. The problem is that many people I need to alert do not have
an email account per se. They end up sharing an account and address
with a friend or spouse. Some distinguish email sent to them by the
name associated with the address. Some get filtered to separate
folders and may not be read by the intended recipient. If two people
share the same address only one will receive my message. Don't you
think that messages should be sent to all recipients I chose by
highlighting them? If I made the decision, why should the program
overrule me - especially without notification?

Mass mailing problem

2004-11-03 Thread Jon Polish
Hi All:

Is this by design? If so it is not functional for me because some
intended recipients are skipped.

1. Individual contacts in the address book generally contain
distinct email addresses. One or two contacts in my address book
share email addresses. These are listed as separate contacts, but
have the same email address.

2. Open the address book. Select an address book or highlight all
contacts (it does not matter). Choose Mass mailing using
template. Send the results to the outbox.

3. If there are 500 contacts in the address book with two pairs of
duplicate addresses, only 498 emails will be generated.

I hope I have been clear about this problem.

Mass mailing using template.

2003-08-18 Thread Richard Wakeford
Hello,

A strange anomaly, not drastic but interesting.

I use the fixed width font viewer and had Auto Format unchecked in the
settings.

I had to do a mass mailing so opened the address book and chose Mass
mailing using a template. I then edited the template and found that,
when I deleted a word so that the sentence structure moved and I got a
long line, ALT+L didn't work to reformat the sentence. If I typed a
new sentence then it was word wrapped as normal.

Going back to settings and selecting Auto Format all works OK and the
sentence reformats as it should when deleting the word. The odd thing
is that, in normal messages, ALT+L works fine with either setting,
it's just in the template that it doesn't work.

You want a separate message specifically addressed *only* to each

Macro expansion in MAss mailing template unreliable?

2002-01-17 Thread Graham Foster

Hello The Bat! developers,

  I'm using The Bat! Version 1.54 Beta/29
  Serial Number F0060E1D
under Windows NT 4.0 Build 1381 Service Pack 6
and would like to report a bug

  The bug description:
The % macros are not reliably expanded when using the Mass mailing
template.

  Steps to reproduce the bug:
  - Create an address book subgroup
  - Populate entries with e-mail address, and fax number (it was just
somewhere to hold information from a database search)
  - run the following QT
 %SUBJECT=XLFit license survey
 Hi
The computer identified as %abtofax was logged onto by you since Xmas,
and the computer had a copy of XLFit on it. Please can you reply and
confirm if you actually use XLFit on %abtofax.
.. etc
When this message was sent out (to 60 recipients) many of them
reported that the %abtofax field was occasionally blank. They forwarded their
messages to me and I can confirm that 1 or more of the %abtofax
replacements were omitted. Some people received the whole thing, other
the last one was missing, some had all of the references missing.

Mmmh - not a great performance? Is it a bug or is it usererror?
Example duff message
 Hi

and the computer had a copy of XLFit on it. Please can you reply and
confirm if you actually use XLFit on
