From WIN 95 to Win2K
Anticipating a new computer for quite some time now, I archived a few messages on how to move TB! from one machine to another. Believe it or not, I've even read the FAQ. Well, the new machine is here. I'm going from a Pentium 75 to an AMD 1Ghz. Slight improvement, eh? What I'm not sure of is if I can use the same procedures described in the FAQ when changing from WIN 95 to WIN2K. Also, I normally don't use the internal backup routine. Instead, I just export the registry settings, and them zip everything into one large zip file as part of my normal maintenance. As Win2K is a totally new environment/OS I don't know what to expect. Is there a preferred method when it comes to Win2k? Hello Derek, Also, I normally don't use the internal backup routine. Instead, I just export the registry settings, and them zip everything into one large zip file as part of my normal maintenance. That was the way I used to bring my TB from win98 to w2k and it worked. A friend took the other way from w2k to winME and it doesn't worked. I have no experience to do this from win95. As Win2K is a totally new environment/OS I don't know what to expect. Is there a preferred method when it comes to Win2k? I wanted to write out the steps how he can avoid accidental sending up to the point where he *had to open the draft* to fill in the text or (later) change anything. More specific, I open a new message, then fill in any of the addressee fields (TO, CC or BCC, doesn't matter), save the message immediately as draft so TB! won't send it. But then I have to open the draft to write the message. With this operation the message becomes "un-drafted", prone to be sent accidentally. You are perfectly right concerning drafted messages as long as they are not opened. From the moment they are opened up again you could accidentally send them without warning - just by the click of a button. With none of the addressee fields filled in you cannot send the mail. TB! will tell you to put in an address (even an invalid one) into the TO field. I understood that Anton wants to be that safe. If he only needs safety on un-opened messages the drafting way is right. If he wants a kind of "the-fools-in-town" safety (sorry, Anton), the best way, yet, is to put a perfectly invalid string into the TO field (like "dfdg"). Re: Easy macro question
Hello Thomas, AS Now I want to use the macro %ACCOUNT="adressbook name" means AS %ACCOUNT="[EMAIL PROTECTED]" or %ACCOUNT="[EMAIL PROTECTED]" and so AS on, to be independent from the selected account in TB. Why don't you just use the %account= macro on the AB level? %Account="AS", %Account="BG", %Account="GB" and so forth. I want to have one template (for all new emails) which is the same for all address books. This template is a text file which I include with the %include macro. In this template I try to get as much informations about the AB and the person as possible to personalize the output mail. %Account="AS", %Account="BG", %Account="GB" and so forth. Maybe I misunderstand your example. "AS", "BG" and "GB" should be email accounts? or is there another deep of knowledge about macros that are new for me? (I do not know much about macros) How ever. I'm really looking for good idea's to make changes in my templates as easy as possible. I have 200 email addresses and it is very hard to do the change for every person. One big problem is, that the properties of each template level (account, group, person...) are not passed to the next level like in object oriented programming. Re: Why so many undeleted bat-tmp files in the temp-directory?
Yeah I get up to 500 or so each week, even though they are mostly 0-Byte in size they take up heaps of space on your HDD cause EVERY file is allocated a "Minimum" size on the HDD and collectively a few hundred can add up to a lot of wasted space, this is known as "Slack Space" and your defrag prog may give you stats of the amout of this space you have, check it before and after you delete the files and you'll get a BIG surprise ;) As well as that when you run a defrag, it takes ages, because it's got so many more File-Entries on the HDD to process, also same if you delete heaps of them at once, your machine may seem to "Hang" as the HDD re-writes hundreds or thousands of FAT-entries... ...just wait for it to finish gracefully! If you panic or are impatient and hit the "Off" button while it is in this state then you risk causing errors which will require fixing (Scandisk ect)yuk. == Wednesday, April 11, 2001, you wrote: AS Hello, AS there are dozents of temp files in the temp-dir. I have since switched back to Beta 1 where I may have only 6 or 7 of those files per session. I don't know why there is such a difference. Nick ___ -=N.J. Andriash | Vancouver, B.C. Re[2]: When are we going to see true type fonts in TB?
On Wednesday, April 11, 2001, 1:56:56 PM, Marck D. Pearlstone wrote: PGH When are we going to be able to use something else than PGH fixed-width fonts in the Bat? MDP Never, I hope. I'll second that! I really LIKE these fonts, too, for the reasons you mentioned, and others. TB makes it easy to use them also. If anything, I'd like to see any possible improvements in handling/editing/filtering text much before adding fancy fonts or HTML. But, I'm mostly interested in the information content of messages, not how pretty they look. :-) ztrader -- __ Archives : http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] TBTech List: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] You are subscribed as : archive@jab.org

AS That's all. Just 3 minutes. AS I never used the backup procedure. From my experience, there are two ways that lead to success. The first one is that Fabio supposed. The second one is to install TB! on the new machine with a dummy account and then restore all account tree from internal back-up. The only thing one have to do manually is copying colors.ini file from old mail dir to the new one:) Anyway, TB! installation program creates all registry entries and registry version incompatibility isn't an issue:) Best regards, Serge Skorokhodovmailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] -- __ Archives : http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] TBTech List: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] You are subscribed as : archive@jab.org
Re: From WIN 95 to Win2K
Hello Fabio, And how do you make, or how can I make this batch file !? I will send it to your private email address. The name will be TheBatSettings.bat- Before you use it, you have to remove the - character at the end of the filename. I put it on the filename so that you first can check it before start it. It's harmless. It generates just the reg files and makes no changes in your regestry. These are the commandlines in it: @regedit /e !_RegSettings_1.reg HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT @regedit /e !_RegSettings_2.reg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\RIT -- Best regards, Anton mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Using The Bat! v1.52 Beta/4 on Windows NT 5.0 Build 2195 (german version) Service Pack 1 Software in the background: Zonealarm Pro 1.0.122 McAfee 5.16 - scan engine 4.1.40 Browsers: Opera 5.02 english version IE 5.50.4522.1800 german version -- __ Archives : http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] TBTech List: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] You are subscribed as : archive@jab.org
