There are three panes, right. So you could always get there in one
shot, because tab goes clockwise and shift-tab goes counterclockwise.
(unless you are talking about a digital clock)

Actually I was kicked about configuring the middle mouse button for the F4 functions

So finally had to do a clean installation. Since TB was in a different partition I

Okay, maybe I'm not using the right nomenclature. I use the full-width

In future, please send TB questions to the TBUDL list. As for your

be something like:

Easier editing of Global preferences. Ive just switched servers and
have to go through the configuration process again, (which sadly
involves more trial and error :o)

user defined patterns in the backrounds would be nice.

You can sort by subject and by date.

Do the date sorting as I mentioned in the previous message. To also
sort by subject you have to thread the messages by going to
View/View Threads by/Subject or just hitting Alt+2.

JM> and it still doesnt answer why all is well up until threads

It's hard to draw any solid conclusions here since most of your
subjects in your screen shot start with 'Re' and the all the
exceptions except for the first entry begin with 'S'. I can't really
detect what chronologic pattern is used when sorting by subject the
way you're doing.

For images which don't need more than 256 colours, png format is
great. So for capturing application windows, cartoons and the like,
png is the way to go. However, for photos or images carrying more than

I don't think so. My point is that I can use the middle mouse button
the usual way, everywhere else in Windows. If you use the intellimouse
software, you've bound the middle mouse button to F4 which is really
only useful to you when replying to mail.

The other thing is that being able to simplify repetitive tasks into
one keystroke, mouse movement or a combination of the two is the
natural way to go if you're willing to learn how and use the relevant
software. PowerPro is a good example of software that service these
other needs as well. The beauty of it is that defining each keystroke
doesn't have to be system wide. It can be application specific.

What does seem like a sledgehammer to me is to install separate mouse
driver software to do one thing. Note that your mouse will work
without intelli-mouse software installed. :-) If you install it just
to get the F4 working *system wide* with the middle mouse button while
you can install something else and get a lot more functionality, then
the choice seems clear to me. :-)

After all that's said, YMMV. To each his own.

As a work around I suppose you could create a new account, password
protect it and drop all personal mail into that account via a filter.
The settings of that account could be such that it never checks mail
at a server, so that you don't have to be afraid that it collects mail
that it shouldn't collect.

Treeview in folders?

2001-10-28 Thread AO

Hi tbudl,

As a new user, I am becoming more and more happy about TB
and it's functionality. Always new possibilities to explore.

Today I found that one of my folders have gotten a
treeview-like [+] sign to the left of each sender. When I
click it, it expands a list of all mail from each sender. I
have no idea where it came from, but it's quite cool.

How do I turn it on and off, and can I use it to
expand/collapse other columns as well (eg. subj)

Some time ago, (on TBBETA IIRC), I made a comparison between PNG and
JPG. Results were:
PNG (24bit): 25 kB
JPG (95%): 135 kB (and it looked worse than PNG)
JPG: 25 kB (very low quality, wanted to show what happens - text was
unreadable)
Then somebody converted that PNG file to 256 colors, and it came out
at 17kB.

BTW: if you wish I can make these screenshots again.

Currently IMAP is only implemented rudimentary - essentially giving
POP3 functionality with IMAP protocol.

You don't need to apologize for using OE, only for not switching off

I would like to describe what happened to me as it may
give you a couple of other things to think about.

I had a similar situation & have found that w2k pro likes
to be re-installed *clean*. It is so finicky about
permissions & assignments that it gets weird if it doesn't
have the solid foundation of a fresh install.

I did a parallel install of w2k & transferred all necessary
files off to another medium. For The Bat!, this involved
  the *entire* "MAIL" folder.

  I re-formatted my HD & re-installed w2k & the TB! program.
But before I created any new accounts as part of the TB!
installation process, I exited the program. Then I copied
the backup MAIL folder in it's entirety to the HD,
replacing the MAIL folder TB! installed & 'imported' the
accounts from the old MAIL folder. Worked like a charm.

When I select RFC-822 headers, the message is shown. Only one problem
when it is a html message, you don't see it in html, but you see the
source-code of the html.

Would there be a way to select RFC-822 headers just for that account?
When I turn on rfc-822 headers in the view-menu, it is selected for
all my accounts.

Concerning the subject : no subject is shown, no from and to, and the
date of creation says 30 dec 1899 00:00:00

It is very strange. When I receive the mails from that account in
outlook or outlook express, there is nothing wrong with them.

It seems to be a problem with memory handling. I usually open mass
mailings in the editor to see for any increeping mistakes. sometimes
(but not always) TB! won't open all messages but crash or give out an
error message I can't recall.

I even had some empty messages a few times - at least they looked
empty but were alright after closing all windows and having a look in
the Outbox.

Since Win9x is notorious for memory problems due to its three small
heaps (GDI, User and System) I am not sure if it is a TB! related bug
or just normal Win9x behaviour.

Bug?

2001-10-28 Thread Wayne Black

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

Sunday, October 28, 2001 7:13 AM GMT -0800

Hello Bat Users,

I just had TheBat lock up on me for the first time and wondered if
anyone else had this happen by doing what I did. I was experimenting
with the mass mailing feature and created the template. Next I
selected 47 address book entries and hit "mass mailing using template"
and picked my template. Then under "action" I picked "open in editor"
I guess I should not have done that because it opened all 47 messages
in the editor (like it should) I then closed them all by hitting Esc
47 times. All still seemed well until I closed down TheBat. That is
when it locked up. Everything was okay when I restarted my computer.

The best thing to do is probably choose "put in outbox" and if
necessary, edit them one at a time. Or, could this be a bug?

And a question. How can you delete the search history in message
finder? It is getting quite long.

Thanks for your comments and I sure wish there would be a The Bat!
Forum in the US some day. Perhaps Reno or Las Vegas?

I now have it working. I'd used the intellimouse software to specify
special keys for The Bat! and while I'd set the global button to f4
I'd forgotten to re-set Bat specific settings.

Lycos acount problems

2001-10-28 Thread cyclons

Hello,

is anybody using a lycos account with the bat? I am using an acount
with lycos.nl, and download and upload messages with mx1.lycos.nl.

The problem is : I don' see the contents of the mails I receive
immediately (see my previous messages : Message not shown). I have to
press F9 to see the contents of the mails I receive from lycos.

Is there anybody else who also uses an acount with lycos, and who
hasn't got problems with this?

Thanks,

Cyclon

I have reported this some time ago on TBBETA but nobody could
reproduce it. So now I'm not the only one. If I use an older version
of TB! (e.g. v1.51), I *can* kill the dupes. BTW it started for me
with version 1.52.

I can reproduce it every time. If I change 'Delete messages from
server' to 'leave messages on server for x days', and after some time
I change it back to 'Delete messages on server' TB! downloads all the
messages on the server again. Now I have a bunch of dupes, that's
normal. But if I press kill dupes, TB! finds no dupes.

Can anybody else confirm this.

I've never really tried that since I invariably don't have anything to

You could also make the changes pretty quickly via the registry but
please don't do so if you aren't comfortable with it. The place to do
this is:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\rit\The Bat!\Users Depot

User#1, User#2 etc. are the accounts and you'll see the account names
there. Dir#1, Dir#2 etc. are the corresponding home directories for
the users/accounts. Changing the directory paths to reflect the
desired paths will fix your problem as well.

Nothing beats a good screenshot.

If you look at the message list column headers, you'll see a little
arrow to the right of 'subject'. This tells me that you're sorting in
ascending order according to subjects and not the message dates.

You can sort the messages according to received time, i.e., the time
the message is downloaded to TB! or created time, the time the message
was created by the sender. Most sort according to created time though
sorting according to received time has the advantage of not being
dependent on the senders system time.

To sort messages according to their dates&time so that the more recent
messages are at the bottom of the list, tap the created time column
header twice. The arrow should appear and be pointing upwards. Another
way is to enable '//View/Sort By/Creation Time' and '//View/Sort
By/Descending order'.

I personally use Capture Professional. Not freeware, but excellent.

This is due to an old MDaemon bug and there are settings in MDaemon to
overcome this problem. If you don't change the setting, it's going to
happen with every DST adjustment.

CB> Problem comes when trying to kill dupes. I can't. TB reports no

That seems strange. The message creation times and IDs shouldn't have
changed ... I don't know what to suggest.

You can do the following.

a) copy your /mail folder to another location so that TB! cannot get
at it.

b) For each account/s, go into its properties, open the file and
directory preferences and change the Home Directory to the where it
should be, i.e., your /mail folder. TB! will likely create new
account folders, overwriting the old ones (this is why you copied the
files over)

c) Now close TB! and *copy*, not move (you still need your backup),
the /mail folder back over.

d) Restart TB!. If you still don't see your mail, try the
CTRL+Shift+Alt+L key combo again.

This sequence should work if the only thing that has changed is the
drive lettering and that you didn't recreate any accounts, giving them
different names from the previous ones.

The registry contains a lot of important configuration information. If
you don't use the built-in Backup utility or at least preserve the TB
registry data, you'll have trouble accessing the TB data.

Recovering Folders

2001-10-28 Thread kalady

Hi All,

I had reinstall Win 2K as an experiment which I tried did not work :(

All the partitions are as it is incl the TB.

I started TB and it will not recognize the folders. I tried Ctrl+Shift+Alt+L. But does
not work.

The /mail folder is still there with all the accounts and folders.

An early reply will be reall appreciated as I am having withdrawl symptoms ;)

Any suggestions

Raj

I doubt it. As I have - in my reply templates - the cursor macro
defined two lines beneath the quotes macro and never had such a
problem.

Maybe he has some more macros, even regex defined in more than one
line *without* the "%-" macro, giving him some empty lines between
%QUOTES and %CURSOR?
