SSL connection woes
I'm new to this list, so apologies if this has been discussed and resolved. If so, please just point me to the relevant archive entry. I've tried all the suggestions (at least those I could understand) in the list archives and still can't get this to work. My university is going to start requiring secure SSL connections for mail retrieval in the next couple of weeks, and I can not get TB to connect securely. The mail server should be set up for secure connections on a dedicated port, but I've tried the other connection options in TB as well. When I try it through POP3, I get no error messages but TB simply says there are no new messages on the server (when there are). A line in the logs also says Initiating TLS handshake, but never says whether or not it worked. When I try it through IMAP4, I'm able to retrieve mail, but the connection seems to be happening on port 143 rather than on the (secure) port 995. I have installed the certificate from the mail server (which I got from Eudora's logs), but that didn't help either. Does anyone have an idea of how to get this to work, or am I going to have to use a tunneling program? If the answer is the latter, is there a clear, simple set of instructions for setting up stunnel (or another free program) you can point me to? Thanks for any help. The deadline for setting this up is drawing near, and the thought of having to give up TB makes me shudder. -Sean -- Using The Bat! v1.61 on Windows 98 4.10 Build A Current version is 1.61 | Using TBUDL information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

I *think* I installed the certificate in the right place, but now that you mention it, what I did seems a little weird. I just created a new entry in the address book (under Trusted Root CA) for my mail server, and imported the certificate to that entry. JA This is where I don't know much else. I haven't a clue how to JA setup POP3 over a secure connection, I've had no need to, as I JA don't remotely connect to any pop3 servers any more ;) I use SSL all the time, now and it works flawlessly. I did have some issues when I first started. Here are the problems I had. 1. The user name changed. I needed to add the domain.com to the end of the user name. 2. The POP3 Server was on the dedicated port (995) and required regular authentication. 3. The SMTP server was on the regular port and required POP before SMTP authentication. 4. The server name of the secure server was different, even though it lead to the same IP. -- Best regards, John Thomas Current version is 1.61 | Using TBUDL information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

If I have them, they came in automatically. I did not install them manually. I assume you are talking about certificates in the trusted root. I looked through them, there are a bundle. How'd they get there? The only ones I recognize as possibly something from my work is myrealbox.com and Verisign. I signed up for an S/Mime certificate to fulfill my geeky needs. -- Best regards, John Thomas Current version is 1.61 | Using TBUDL information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re: Auto-create mailing list rule
Hello! Monday, September 16, 2002, 10:51:21 PM, I wrote: SM I'd like to have TB automatically move mailing list messages, SM including new ones. I see that it recognizes the mailing list header SM keywords, but there seem to be no macros for them. I'd ideally like SM TB to create a new folder and a new rule automatically when the first SM message comes in for a new list, although that's probably pushing it. Thomas, Roelof, and Marcus, thanks for your replies. How about something simpler. Right now, I can have known addresses (in the address book) filtered. Is it possible to have TB put emails (those not processed by a previous rule) into a folder for each address book entry, without manually creating a rule for each one? This would seem to be something that would be of more interest to most people. -- Best regards, Scottmailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Current version is 1.61 | Using TBUDL information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
