I'm very happy with a program called, SpamBayes. It's pretty easy to

doing very well sorting the spam from the ham.

It's fairly simple to set up, but I don't think there are any
directions in the help file.

You need to set up a chat folder (as in Folder/New_Chat_Folder).

Next, disable the annoying chat mode. Click on the chat folder and
then Account/Properties and pick Chat (at the bottom). For Chat Mode,
select All so you can disable both Notification Modes, disable them
and then set chat mode to no chat.

Finally, to use Watch replies in .. feature, you right click on a
message, choose Specials then Watch replies in .. then choose the
chat window.

This is a very nice feature. Too bad it's tied to the chat stuff.
Too bad it's not documented (or the documentation is hidden
somewhere). Too bad it isn't easier to activate for a message.

If you're on a slow dial-up connection, the constant checking of DNS
blacklists may be a bit annoying - especially if you receive unknown mail
often (auto-whitelisting doesn't work, then). In such cases a stand-alone
Bayes type filter may be the better choice (of course, one can disable all
DNS blacklists in SpamPal, and only use the Bayesian plugin, but in that
case the BayesIt that integrates into TheBat allows smoother operation).

Sidenote: IMO, RegEx isn't really an option the average user will be
willing to understand and/or use. A couple of friends/relatives already do
have problems to understand the concept of mail classification with a Bayes
filter, and just check their classification lists once in a while because I
told them they should really do so.

...OTOH, I believe none of the average Outlook Express users (the why, it
has everything I need! type) will migrate to TheBat, ever... *g*

Hello Allie,

 Take the scenario:

It's a different scenario. A number of accounts that check for mail
every so many minutes (some every 5, some every 10 or 30, etc.) and, for
whatever reason, I want/need to disable all of them for a period of
time. The only solution now is to go to each account Properties/Options
and uncheck Periodical checking

Exactly. There are other approaches, i.e., set the time for periodic
checking to some much larger number which defers any CC activity for that
specific account, but one still has to make this change to each account
... that's just not a viable approach in my mind. Other suggestions,
i.e., Robin Anson's suggestion of closing ports, could potentially do the
trick, but a The Bat! user shouldn't have to resort to these types of
 actions.

The program file thebat.exe itself has command line parameters. When TB
is not running, it is started, and (whats more interesting for you) when TB
is already running, the parameters are passed to the running instance of
the program.

Search the help of TB for command line to get information on /CHECK and
/CHECKALL (the latter ends TB if no new mail was received) and all the
other commandline parameters that TB understands.

You can manually /check or /checkall for mail, which opens TB to
control via batch programs... OR: the windows task scheduler... you get the
idea?

With a little batch programming you can add/remove a mailchecking event
to/from the Windows task scheduler with the commandline tool
schtasks.exe (I'm talking about 2000/XP here).

You can find the documentation (commandline syntax etc.) to schtasks in
the Windows help. Activate your desktop, press F1 and search for schtasks
(or command-line reference A-Z for a complete cmd reference).

If you disable automatic mail checking in the normal TB config entirely,
you can create two batch files: one that adds an event thebat.exe /check
[account] that is scheduled every 15 minutes (or whatever), and another
batch files that removes this event. You can put these two .bat files on a
hotkey (or easily accesible on your desktop, or whatever) and
enable/disable mail-checking that way.

The 1% it drops, is due to the problems I'm having with IMAP timing out.

Other than that, it works great.

If people are prepared to wait and the authors of the existing sites are

Of course, is there a demand on for an English version of the sites? If
there is enough demand, I will aim to supply.

Are people interested here for a UK version?

Also, are people happy to assist in providing content when required?

Can outgoing messages be automatically parked?

2004-07-25 Thread Rick Friedman
Currently, I have my sent mail folder set to delete purge e-mail I sent that
is older than 2 weeks. However, when I send e-mail to certain
recipients, I would like those e-mails to be parked in the sent mail
folder so they don't get deleted.

Is there anyway to have TB! automatically park outgoing messages based
on who the recipient is?

AFAIK this won't work as v1.x and v2.x use different types of message base.

msgbase format was changed in version 1.42, all next versions until
2.12 have the same format.

This only work on sent mail! If you want to park messages in the Outbox
you will still have to do that after manually composing the message in
the Message Editor as the import command line parameter does not allow
parking to happen for mail you import to the Outbox (;PARK). The rules
in Outgoing Mail are applied on messages _after_ they have been sent.
