Re: Mail aliases
Hello Julian, Thursday, September 30, 2004, 8:09:04 PM, you wrote: OK. But nevertheless, the way TB! handles alias addresses could be improved IMHO. There should be an easier way to pick alias addresses (if you have many and switch them often) other than selecting a folder that has the correct identity (which sounds like a workaround to me). Try Options|Active Account in the message editor window, or right click on the account name shown in the status bar at the bottom of the message editor window. If you change the account before you enter any text into the body of the message, it will apply the new default account template/sig. Thats not what I meant, I meant mail aliases, not accounts (different FROM address, same account). An account can (ideally) have an unlimited number of mail addresses. For example, my email account I'm using here has the alias [EMAIL PROTECTED] - the mails simply go into the same account and I receive them in one go when I check the account. What TB! would need is a clever way of handling mail aliases (taking them from the personal vCard in the account properties, for example), at least as FROM addresses... gotta do a little bit of brainstorming and maybe fill in a feature request. :-) -- Best regards, Alexandermailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Current version is 3.00.00 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

'Zdravstvujte', Maksym. Thank you for your message. I must have missed your reply in the TBUDL, which I receive in digest form, but I am not sure why I did not receive your personal e-mail. ('Izvinite, pozhalujsta'.) In my original message, I wrote that I could not get a Unicode, KOI-8-encoded signature text file to work with The Bat! 3.0. On Thursday, 30 September 2004, you suggest, Maksym: MK Well, I would consider the following as a possible MK solution. Save your signature file as non-Unicode MK Windows Cyrillic. Use some (re-)encoding software to MK make it KOI-8. Use %COOKIE=C:\pushkin-signature-your- MK plain-non-unicode-koi8-r.txt :). MK MK I personally would recommend Decode by Boris MK Berdichevskiy, MK http://www.borisba.com/~borisba/decode21.zip I appreciate your suggestion, Maksym, and I have downloaded Boris Berdichevski's Decode 2.1, and will install it and try your suggestion. I will report back to the list, Maksym, with the results of my test. (Thank you, however, for your offer to send me the program via e-mail!) If your suggestion works with recipients running Windows, it will indeed solve the problem with my friends in Ukraine and Russia, who all use Windows 98SE. I assume, however, that the re-encoding will cause problems for people running other platforms, but perhaps The Bat! actually will eventually support Unicode. Finally, Maksym, I find it interesting that Boris works in Tel-Aviv, because I have a friend who teaches and lives in Tel-Aviv, as well as several friends in that part of Israel. Thank you again, Maksym! ('Spasibo'!) :-) 'Vsego horoshego'! Cordially, David P.S. -- I hope the weather in your part of Ukraine is not too cool. W ...It means I can put accentuated characters in the object of my new W mails I'm creating, or it means others can send me accentuated object W e-mails ? No, it does mean none of above. It means that 8 bit characters in headers will be transmitted as they are. If you don't allow 8 bit characters in header, 8 bit characters will be converted to 7 bit characters using either Quoted printable or base64. However user in the other end will see those 8 bit characters normally, because his email program will convert those headers back from 7 bit to 8 bit characters. This is done because 8 bit characters in headers violate some RFCs. I realize that TBUDL is not a forum for complaining, ;-) but, in all candor, I share your pessimism about The Bat! ever supporting Unicode. In fact, the lack of Unicode support is the main reason that I still am evaluating The Bat! and cannot get off the fence and decide whether or not to register it, or to use another, less powerful, e-mail client, such as Thunderbird, which does offer Unicode support. I first used The Bat! in March 2000, when I was teaching an HTML workshop to teachers in Kiev (Kyiv), Ukraine. I had never heard of The Bat! before, but I liked the program, based upon this brief exposure to it. (In addition, I am drawn to ANY Windows e-mail client that offers security.) If I did not have so many friends in Ukraine and Russia, the issue of Unicode support would be of little importance to me, but these friends appreciate me using even a little bit of Russian (particularly, my fiancee, in Odessa), even if my Russian IS rudimentary and incoherent at times. :-) RANT I would register The Bat! immediately, if I thought that the program would actually support Unicode someday, but the few responses I have received from the developers lead me to be very pessimistic, indeed. /RANT Cordially, David (Tennessee, United States) -- David M. Having Trouble Closing TheBat
I have been having trouble closing out TheBat. Sometimes when closing it I get a Windows (XP) message that the program closed improperly. Other times when I am shutting down the computer I notice that TheBat is still running, even though I closed the program. I did a little checking and noticed that sometimes after I close the program it still shows up in the Task Manager. If I click on the icon again, the computer chuggs for a bit and then the task ends. If I click on the icon at this point, the program starts up. Any idea as to what is happening here? -- Michael Rudnick [EMAIL PROTECTED] Using The Bat! 2.12.00 on Windows XP 5.1 (2600) Service Pack 2 Current version is 3.00.00 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
