Because I've more programs installed of which the data are at other
partitions, I did have made C, D, E and F partitions as I have at my old
computer well the sizes differ. :-)
So, Rick's solution worked fine.
But I've still to transfer many settings of other programs sigh.

Whether this would work without copying the registry as Rick said is
another question.

In any case, backing up manually is always recommended; but I would
use the manual way only if the automated backup-restore doesn't work.
It has worked without problems the last couple of times over the
years.

I don't trust the backup function either. If there's any corruption in the
backup file, you lose everything.

Just copy the mail directory from one computer to the other using whatever
works for you (external drive, USB stick, cloud drive) and then copy it down to
the new computer wherever you like. Install TB! on the new machine and once
you've started it up, go to Preferences and then System and set the Mail
directory to wherever you copied the mail directory to. It takes time to copy
everything, of course, but it's unlikely anything will go wrong.

That is the ideal way if the TBK file doesn't go corrupt which I have had
happen several times. I personally don't trust it but you are correct - that is
the best way to do it

This works only if you have the same directory structure and disk
names.

Another way is to use the internal backup function (under Tools) and
create a .tbk file. Move this file to a removable disk.

On the new computer, downlaod and install TB!. It will ask you whether
you want to restore and create a new (first) account. Choose "restore"
and point to that file (of course you would need to either copy the
.tbk file onto the new computer first or keep the external hard drive
connected.)

I have done this a couple of times.

Copy your mail directory to somewhere where you can restore from.
Run this and change the path to where you want it to go and rename it to
something that makes sense for you as this example would put "test.reg" in the
"C:\test". i put mine in the mail directory
regedit /e c:\test\test.reg HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT

Also copy things like the images folder if you have customized smilies and any
customized dictionaries from the Bat's program folder (or just export them and
import them into the new installation)

Transfer TB

2017-01-14 Thread Goos

Hi!
It is too many years ago I transferred The Bat from an old to a new
PC, so that I forgot how to do that.
Now it is time again to such a transfer ... my old PC will be replaced
by a new one. So
How do I completely The Bat with all its settings, the way, that
everything will be the same as it is at my old PC?

I tried the 'Backup' option, but I did not get it all back that way.

Common Filters is a much better place. Then you only have one filter
to add / change that will work for all your email addresses.

I still have some leftover in the individual mail accounts that I am
gradually moving to Common Filters one at a time as I have not yet
found a way of cutting and pasting them all in one go.

You could take the opportunity to change them all to Common Filters.I
made this change several years ago and found it a much more
satisfactory arrangement: it enabled me to eliminate swathes of
very similar filters by using the same ones on multiple accounts, it
left filters intact when accounts are deleted, and it allows the use
of existing filters with new accounts. (Of course, YMMV.)
