2002-12-04 Thread syv
Hi tbudl,

I am student registered and I am trying to upgrade to
personal. I already send 2 emails in the last week, no
reply.

I checked the website and cannot find where to email, so I
used the feedback.

Who to email for how much and how to upgrade the license.

in some of the folders there are one or more messages I want to keep. I
suppose marking those messages as parked would make TB! leave them as they
are, but since they are important messages I want to know for certain, not
 just suppose.

Thus: Is it enough to mark a message as parked to make sure TB! doesn't
delete it automatically, or should I do something else to it as well?

EC When a msg is Parked you can not delete it but you can Copy to a
EC different folder. In this case the Parked msg will be in both folders.

Or if you choose to move the message, it will un-park the
moved message, so it need to re-parked in the new folder.

MR Hello David,

MR I am of the opinion that you are doing something wrong. :-) I love
MR TB!'s message editor! It is a true WYSIWYG editor, and once you get
MR to know it, it's very easy to compose well formatted - and
MR re-formatted - email.

MR Let's say your chosen editing options (Utilities) look like this:

MR Auto-Wrap: ON
MR Auto-Format: OFF

MR If you're composing a paragraph, and want to insert new text
MR somewhere, the wrapping might go out of bounds and look funny. Just be
MR sure that the cursor is within the paragraph, and use the keyboard
MR combination: Alt-L

MR If you have Auto-Format ON, re-wrapping as you insert new text is
MR automatic. However - if you keep Auto-Format ON, you can't make
MR bulleted lists, etc., as it will force the short lines back together
MR as a paragraph. You can, as an alternative, toggle Auto-Format on and
MR off by using Ctrl-Shift-F.

MR I've tried every Windows email client I can get my hands on, and so
MR far, have not seen *any* client - in the areas of both mail management
MR and message composition - that come close to it. Becky has a decent
MR message editor, but I feel it still falls behind TB! in other aspects
MR of mail management.

1. TB is a great product. I use it every day and some of my

2. The #1 downfall of TB is the documentation or the lack of

do what they need, then somewhere on the list somebody
mentions:

JR Hello Joe.

JR At 3:55 PM on Saturday, January 05, 2002 you wrote the
JR following in regards to my comments to Syv on the
JR posted subject 'Keyboard navigation':

Jan Just curious: how do you conclude this is a fact?

Joe I think this falls into the realm of common sense,
Joe Jan.

JR I've been following the philosophical discussion on
JR common sense that you've been having with Thomas
JR which emanated from my question -- very interesting.

JR This whole branch probably belongs on TBOT, but
JR anyway, I just wanted to jump back in here for a
JR moment to say that the real question I was asking was
JR how Syv had determined for an absolute *fact* that
JR TB! was not a Cx success. After all, what Microsoft
JR or Syv (or anyone -- I'm not picking on you, Syv)
JR considers a Cx success is not necessary the
JR benchmark.

JR Personally I think TB! is already a success because
JR its here, it works better than all/most email clients
JR currently on the market has so many devoted users
JR even tho it has limited resources for advertising
JR marketing. Can it use more users? Sure. Will it get
JR them? Probably... as we all proselytize the world to
JR The Bat.

JR In addition, I would imagine you'd agree that success
JR can change with age. What one considers a success @
JR 20 yrs of age can be very different from what one
JR considers a success @ 60 yrs of age. That's called
JR perspective.

JR However, I hope for the sake of RitLabs that TB! is
JR at least successful enough presently to keep the
JR RITLab families in food, clothing under a heated
JR roof besides providing the fellows the freedom to
JR continue TB's march towards the ultimate success that
JR Svy others think it can achieve.

JR Oh, BTW, I certainly agree that easier makes for
JR more popular. OE fits that description, doesn't it?
JR :-)

Hi tbudl,

I have 3 accounts defined in TB. [EMAIL PROTECTED] is the main
one. This is the one I work with 99% of the time.

Is there a way, when I create a new message from [EMAIL PROTECTED],
to change the footer of the message if I change the
From/Reply-To:?

It does it for the user name with the macro, but not with
the footers.

Right now, I either cut and paste the message and recreate
it in the other account or I have to cut and paste the
footers

Thanks

Yes, I do, but TB does not really support IMAP4, it supports email

It does not support the mail management. If IMAP4 is required, either

Virus

2001-09-05 Thread syv

Hi tbudl,

 I have TB 1.54d. I use Computer Associates InoculeIT v5. I just
updated today the definition and run a full scan and I get:

InoculateIT real-time protection has found that c:\sys\thebat.exe is
 infected with Win32.Magistr.29188 virus.

 This has only happened today.

Help! It has automatically delete the TB.

IMAP4

2001-08-13 Thread syv

Hi TBUDL,

I have upgraded my mail server to IMAP4.

I have set the transport protocol to IMAP4.

It works, I can send and receive email using IMAP4.

How do I manage my messages on the server? I could not find much in
the help file and I quote:

For example, email stored on an IMAP4 server can be manipulated from a
desktop computer at home, a workstation at the office, and a notebook
computer while travelling, without the need to transfer messages or
files back and forth between these computers. In other words, IMAP4 is
a superset of POP3 that provides good support for all three modes of
remote mailbox access: offline, online, and disconnected.

end of quote:

Great, now how do I manage my emails?

PP I I must say: it's not (yet) possible to use the full superset of

 2. When using Special Add sender to addressbook, it opens a window

Security bugs

I have receive the following from Network Computing and

Consensus #094:

*** {01.17.016} Win - The Bat! line ending misinterpretation

The Bat! e-mail program version 1.51 contains a bug that causes the
program to handle an improper end-of-line sequence incorrectly. This
could provide a potential denial of service against the user.

The vendor has confirmed this problem and fixed it in version
1.42beta10. This version appears to be an earlier version than 1.51,
but we're just going on what was reported.

Warning about Melissa Virus in .rtf files

We have learned that Melissa virus has recently been
spreading again and may not be detected by any
antivirus software including Norton AntiVirus. It is
important to note that this is not a new variant of the
Melissa virus.

What we have confirmed a Word document infected by
W97M.Melissa.A with the file extension of .rtf is being
sent out to many users though email. These documents
are not actually in .rtf format files as the file
extension name suggests, but is actually a Word format
file that has had the file extension name renamed to
.rtf. If the antivirus software is not configured to
scan the .rtf file extension, the virus will not be
detected.

To protect yourself from this virus, Symantec AntiVirus
Research Center recommends to update the configuration
in Norton AntiVirus to include the .rtf file extension
as well as the following file extensions in the Scanner
and Auto-Protect options.

Complete List of File Extension Recommended for Scanning:

386, ADT, BIN, CBT, CLA, COM, CPL, CSC, DLL, DOC, DOT,
DRV, EXE, HTM, HTT, JS, MDB, MSO, OV?, POT, PPT, RTF,
SCR, SHS, SYS, VBS, XL?

To add .rtf to your list of Program Files to be scanned
in NAV 95 and NAV NT:

1. Open Norton AntiVirus
2. Click Options. The Options dialog appears.
3. Click the Scanner Tab.
4. Click Select... in the "What to scan" section.
NOTE: This button is dimmed (greyed out) if you have the All Files radio button
selected.
The Program File Extensions dialog will appear.
5. Click New... .
6. Type RTF in the resulting box and then click OK.
7. Click OK in the Options dialog.

No. This has nothing to do with it.

I have a P3 W2k and 256Mb RAM and I use it also for
mass mailings and template: 1722 people at a time and it's working
fine.

1. Is there an error message?

2. Is there enough disk space?

3. Have you run CHKDSK /F and restarted the computer?

4. Are you sending them to the editor or to the outbox?

5. Is the outbox set as deferred? It should especially
on the large ones. If not, it will try to create message

it has died.

6. How many macros are you using, the regex chew up

Yes. I am using it with Maximizer 6. It works on ASCII

I think that the SMAPI does not deal properly with the

Goldmine has it's own built-in email system. It will do
mail merge,... But it does not have all the templates,

ML TB need more than 5k of memory to handle a 5k message, don't you

Re: Newbie Question

2001-01-03 Thread syv

Hi Tony,

.

TB I do not require fancy features. I just want to send and receive Email, and
TB store up to 500Gb of Email safely on anther machine in an SQL database. An
TB integrated Spell Checker in English would be a nice extra.

You must have very large hard drives. That a minimum of
8!

JR Hi syv,

JR In Monday, January 01, 2001 18:27:57 -0800 you wrote the following
JR in regards to "Mass mailing using template":

syv Address book group: 1586 people

syv Missing: 261: Where did they do?

JR I believe this is a function of memory, i.e. not enough memory to
JR create the other 261 msgs. When I use mass mailings I do it in
JR sections, i.e. [(A-G), (H-M), (N-Z)] to avoid this. The missing
JR 261 will most likely be the *last* 261 people in your list. HTH

Re[2]: Import addresses in the Address book

2000-12-24 Thread syv

Hi Karin,

It's in ASCII format, comma delimited

.

KS On 25-12-2000 at 02:13, syv kindly wrote:

KS If you import from an existing mail program (Eudora,
KS Outlook, Netscape mail), all you need to do is define an
KS address book (give it a name) and then go to

Tools -- Address book -- File -- Import from.

KS There, you get a selection of formats: comma separated file,
KS Eudora address, tab separated, ldif, vcards.

 1. The format layout. [name, email ... which order?]

KS If you import from Outlokk, the only thing you need to do is
KS check the items you wish to import. You may want to manually
KS check them afterwards, but TB imported my Eudora addresses
KS and my friend's Oulook addresses nicely, and without ado.

 3. How to assign it to a group

KS If you had groups defined, you'll still have them.
