General (perhaps basic) questions
G'day all. I'm a LONG-term Agent user, (bought it when it was still .99 beta, the best part of a decade ago), but I finally got too fed up with it, so I went looking for a different client, and I've ended up here. And despite the clear advantages that The Bat! has over Agent, I'm missing some of the things that Agent did, although I've discovered a few of them in the last week or so, despite the 'help' file, due to putting in a LOT of hours playing with it - and reading this list :-) Several things have got me really frustrated, and I'm hoping (and suspecting) that I've just missed them along the way. Threading - is it possible to get the program to only expand threads with unread messages in them? Is it possible to only show genuinely unread messages as unread, rather than all the way from an unread message all the way back to the thread root? In Agent, one-click browsing allows the use of the spacebar to move to the next unread message - can this be done in The Bat!? Is it possible to only show genuinely unread messages as unread, rather than all the way from an unread message all the way back to the thread root? It is showing only the ones unread that are unread, look at the envelope icon. It just bolds the font of all the parents so you can see at a glance, which threads still have unread messages. In Agent, one-click browsing allows the use of the spacebar to move to the next unread message - can this be done in The Bat!? Yep... if you hit ALT-F12, it'll show you a whole bunch of shortcut keys (customizable). If you use the ticker, and enable the virtual folder view (View - Message List) when you open a message, if you select any message in there, and use the space bar, it'll move to the next message. -- Jonathan Angliss ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) Using The Bat! v2.10.01 on Windows XP 5.1 Build 2600 Service Pack 1 We're lost, yes.but we're making good time. pgp0.pgp Description: PGP signature Current version is 2.10.01 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

You can use Ctrl+] and Ctrl+[ to move to the next/previous unread message. Hello M, In Agent, one-click browsing allows the use of the spacebar to move to the next unread message - can this be done in The Bat!? You can configure this via the Shortcuts Editor (View/Edit Shortcuts or Alt+F12). I use Space bar to mark messages as Read and Enter to move to next unread. -- Best regards, Miguel A. OK, I think I've found the solution to this - in ViewEdit Shortcut keysMessage List popupMove to next unread, I've changed ctrl-] to 'space' and it seems to be working fine. I also changed Park in there to just use the letter 'k' (for keep, as in agent) and it also seems to be working fine, in that I can use both 'space' and 'k' when typing this message. (A decade's worth of habit is hard to break!!!) This is unlike when I first fiddled with the options the other day, and various keys went missing :-))) Thanks to all for their help - much appreciated. -- cheers, Mic (reply address works) A lifetime of happiness! In the interests of space conservation, I don't have the envelope showing. But now I've got the spacebar thing sorted, it's nothing like as much of a problem. (Still annoying - I've got unread messages showing as green text on a very pale yellow background to help them stand out, but I'd go back to the white background if this got solved.)
