How do I test a filter?
Hi TBUDL, I know it is possible to test a newly created filter, but I'm not sure how. In the past, I have just refiltered the folder and occasionally I've gotten some unforeseen results. Can one of you please explain how to run a test on a filter without refiltering a folder? -- Regards, Perry Using The Bat! v3.64.01 Christmas Edition on Windows XP 5.1 Build 2600 Service Pack 2 Current version is 3.64.01 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Thanks for your response, Dwight. And yes, that is the test I've used in the past. However, what I am trying to avoid is having to go through the target location and having to search for and pick out the messages that may have been caught that I didn't intend. Is there not a way to simply run the filter and have it produce a log of what would have been filtered if it had been run for real? -- Regards, Perry Using The Bat! v3.64.01 Christmas Edition on Windows XP 5.1 Build 2600 Service Pack 2 Current version is 3.64.01 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Hello Perry, I know it is possible to test a newly created filter, but I'm not sure how. - Select a message in the message list and right click on it. - Select 'Test Filter' in your context menu and you will get the Test Filter pop-up dialog where you can select the type of filter(s) you want to test. - Click OK and you will get a pop up window telling you which filters have triggered and the actions that would have been taken if this was not a TEST. That is, the actions are not really taken. -- Best regards, Miguel A. Maybe that description will make its way into the help file eventually. As you'll note, Stuart Cuddy supplied the essential first step of selecting the message and right clicking to get the context menu in which test filter was listed. And once I had that bit of information I was able to test the filter I created, which worked as expected by the way.
