The TBUDL list rules say you should. It's also more likely to be seen
and answered, since TB! is a threading mail client.

Confirmed in TB! 4.0.38

I created a PGP/MIME test message to myself to test this. In TB!
4.0.38, for the message I just tested, the "select text to quote/F4"
method works as expected on both the "This is a PGP encrypted message"
tab and the tab showing the decrypted message text.

Yes. Assuming others can reproduce the behaviour you report it's a bug
they introduced after v4.0.38.

You're right - I had a reply template set for the list's Reply-to

Perhaps I should start a new, more specific thread for this, but I
guess it's also a reply template issue...

A little while ago, I complained of "select text to quote/F4"
procedure being ignored, and the entire original message being quoted
instead. I think I've narrowed it down to this:

I receive a PGP/MIME encrypted message. If I perform the "select text
to quote/F4" procedure on any part of this (before decryption)...

"This is a PGP encrypted message. Click the security button to
decrypt/verify it"

...the selection and quoted text works as expected. However, if I
then decrypt the message, and the decrypted message is now in its own
"tab", the "select text to quote/F4" method does not work at all, and
the entire message is quoted in the reply.

Something is wrong with this reply quotation handling. I consider
this a bug.

Reply template ignored in a folder

2010-07-07 Thread Jernej Simončič
I've got one folder where The Bat seems to completely ignore the Reply
template - it seems to use account default reply template. I tried
removing and re-adding the template, removing it completely, replacing
it with %BLANK and with some garbage, but any time I click Reply in
that folder, the default Reply template is used. I also tried
Maintenance centre with no success. Forward template works fine in
that folder.

Any ideas what's happening, and how could I get the reply template to
work for that specific folder? (this folder is a subfolder in common
folders)

"Joe (Work)" , Joe (Work),Joe
(home)

I am content to let this thread die. Thanks to everyone for their
help. I learned a few things, like: I should pay attention to the
miscellaneous macros .

I have a workable solution: two address entries. Not particularly
onerous, as I have very few friends who meet both of the following
conditions: 1) more than a single e-mail address and 2) are known by
something other than their first name, e.g. Henry is known as Skipper,
but I do not want Skipper to be his first name in the address book.

Cheers for now.

As it looks like you are using address book templates, why not use the
%TO="address(es)" macro to put whatever you want in the To field?

For example, Joe has two email addresses, us...@example.com and
us...@example.net.

You store them in the same AB entry on different lines (so that TB!
finds the AB entry and uses the reply template, and also so that you
only have to change the template in one AB entry if Joe changes one or
both email addresses - or adds a third).

In your reply template in that AB entry, you include the text:-

%To="Joe (Work) ,Joe (Home) "

Would that do what you require, or have I completely misunderstood?

This was one reason I made use of the memo field to store secondary email
addresses. Miguel hates this because it relies heavily on regular
expressions, but if you have a bit of patience you might like to try it.

Firstly include the line:

%QInclude(Add_CC)%-

in your New Message, Reply and Forward templates for your accounts.

Then in your address book entry include one email address in the usual
place and include the second email address in the memo field (on the
"Other" tab) in this form on a line by itself:

per...@otherdomain.com

It doesn't have to be the only information in the memo tab, just by itself
on one line.

Then you need to set up the following quick templates. There are 4 of them,
and you need them all. They call one another in a chain and the effect is to
look for secondary addresses like the one above and automatically add them
in the CC field. If you were to put the address between BCC tags like this:
per...@otherdomain.com
the address would be added to the BCC field.

If there are multiple recipients in the TO or CC fields, the macros will do
this for each person.

Copy and paste the contents between the marked Start and End lines. Please
make sure that long lines do not get wrapped in the Quick Template editor.

The first macro is called "Add_CC" (without the quotes of course).

[ Start Add_CC ]
%REM="
Include secondary addresses noted in memo field between or tags.
A token is identified by a line of the form:

Usage:

I do not know, if this solution fits *exactly* to your problem, but
what about this?

- Edit Address Book entry of recipient
- Go to tab "Other"
- [x] Automatically add secondary addresses to the BCC field

I wrote "exactly", because I do not know, if it is okay for you have
the secondary address(es) in the BCC field.

My point is that I want to send the e-mail to _both_ addresses. If I
have two or more addresses on the same line addresses on the same
line, I will be able to do that, but then the reply template will not
be picked up because the address in the address book, by definition
does not match the address in the incoming e-mail. So, to get the best
of all worlds, I need two (or more) address entries; to send mail to
both (or all of this person's addresses, I have to select each of
them. (I think we are beginning to go around in circles on this

Yes, this works for the problem that I stated originally, but creates
a new problem. In the address book, if I hit the sheet of paper with
the feather quill ("Create a new message"), the new message window
opens up, but only with the address on the first line. It did not make
any difference when I retained the comma at the end of the name on the
first line. So the best method is to create a second entry.

Reply not finding Reply Template (solved, I think)

2009-03-11 Thread Leonard Berkowitz
I have previously posted notes asking for help with replies not
finding the existing Reply Template. I received many responses with
suggestions, but none of them made any difference. Of course, I am
grateful for these numerous attempts to help me.

I think the problem is that the incoming e-mail address has to match
exactly the e-mail address in the address book entry. Now that may
seem obvious, and it should have been to me. However, in several
instances, I have placed two addresses, separated by a comma in the
address book entry. Of course, the incoming e-mail could not be coming
from both of those addresses, so the address book template was
ignored. I have solved this problem, I believe, by creating a second
address book entry, with only the second e-mail address and now keep
only one address in each entry.

Again my thanks to everyone who tried to help me during the past year.

Thanks for the tips. The template is almost exclusively based on one
that I borrowed from Silverstones so I can't claim responsibility for
the regular expressions. I've made some good progress after your help
and have come up with the following:

-Original Message-
From: %OFromName <%OFromAddr>
Sent: %OHeader('Date')
To: %OToList
%IF:"%OCcList"="" : "" : "Cc: %OCcList
Subject: %OSubject

%Quotes

This works fine for messages with a cc, however when the
template is used to reply to a message without a cc then processing of
the macros's stops immediately before the subject. Entering the normal
%- doesn't seem to have any effect. Do you know how I could make it
continue to process after the %IF macro?

The value after %RegExpMatch= should be between quotation marks, like
you've done in %RegExpMatch="%VARdate" But in the other instances
You're using %RegExpMatch=%Headers without quotation marks, it's
possible that HTML templates are somewhat stricter where the syntax is
concerned.
Furthermore I'm somewhat lost about your extensive use of regular
expressions where they aren't necessary.
You're using regexp to retrieve the original contents of the Date
header, where %OHeader('Date') would suffice.
You're using some regexp to check whether %OToList is empty and if it
isn't you're inserting %OToList, why not simply use %OToList to
check whether it's empty instead of the regexp, same with %OCcList.

I'd propose something like this:

From: %OFromName <%OFromAddr>
Sent: %OHeader('Date')
%If:"%OToList"<>"":"To: %OToList
":""%-
%If:"%OCcList"<>"":"Cc: %OCcList
":""%-
Subject: %OSubject

No, I didn't check this.

HTML Reply template not working

2009-01-04 Thread Paul Meathrel
Hi all,

I'm trying to get an account based HTML reply template to work. The template is
based on a template from the Silverstones website. It works fine in Plaintext
mode however it doesn't produce the correct results in HTML. The relevant
portion of the template is:

From: %OFromName <%OFromAddr>
Sent%-
%VARdate='%SetPattRegExp="^Date:.*?$"%RegExpMatch=%HEADERS'%-
%SetPattRegExp=":.*$"%RegExpMatch="%VARdate"
%SetPattRegExp="^To:.*?$"%IF:"%RegExpMatch=%HEADERS"<>"":"To: %OToList
":""%-
%SetPattRegExp="^Cc:.*?$"%IF:"%RegExpMatch=%HEADERS"<>"":"Cc: %OCcList
":""%-
Subject: %OSubj

Which produces something looking like this:

-Original Message-
From: Joe Bloggs
Sent
: Sat, 3 Jan 2009 04:59:35 -
<>"":"To: "Paul Meathrel"
":""
<>"":"Cc:
":""
Subject: Whatever

I'm guessing that it isn't parsing the macros correctly or that I need to
adjust the template. Can anyone help out?

As personal address book templates have precedence over all other
templates (including address book group templates) the only probable
reason for this behaviour is multiple entries for the same address.
Those other entries may be entries with the problem address as
secondary address and also entries in another address book group.
Remember that TB defaults its address book groups as 'hide items if
not explicitly selected', that means that when you're searching in the
root of the address book you won't find addresses in those groups.
The same happens when you've got addresses in multiple address books.

It sounds unkind, but nevertheless I suggest that you look again.

I'm using only few templates for specific recipients plus a lot of

There must be a reason why the template isn't used on your side. Are

Reply template is not recognized

2006-09-18 Thread Leonard S. Berkowitz
For many people in my address book, I find that a Reply defaults to
the account reply template and not to the addressee specific reply
template. I've always assumed that TheBat looks for the e-mail address
for a match and not the person's name. How can I "nail" a reply to use
the addressee specific reply template and not the account reply
template?

Thank you.

make sure duplicate entry does NOT have reply template
close TB to make sure it's written out the AB
open TB

open address book
delete the second/(duplicate without reply template)
note it is not in DELETED ITEMS bin of AB
reply to original message again
note that account's template is being used again
note deleted AB entry still not in Deleted Items bin
___

from here on, it does not always occur the same. Sometimes the entry
is back into the AB, sometimes it is gone. I can repeat this process
and have duplicate email address useable and sometimes the one I tried
to delete is gone.

So, you are correct in saying the original reason I wrote is solved by
duplicate AB entries. However, I SAW no duplicate entries because they
were not visible over a full days use of TB, opening and closing TB
throughout the day.

Only TODAY when I used the search function (ICON) of all AB's, did
that cause the duplicate entry to show up again back in its original
position in the personal AB.

Whereas yesterday I searched the AB manually and then with the
text-search window and found ONLY the one entry WITH its
reply-template.

Odd problem and I sent a note to the bug-traq line for the Beta
folks.

Under Personal Address book lies 4 that I group addresses into. They
all leave the "Hide" box un-checked. When I manually look, or do a
search, of the address, there is only one to be found.

*If* I make a slight change to the Account's Reply Template, then that
is reflected in a reply to this email from that friend at the ISP. I
keep trying different ways to catch myself, but am left to see it is
the Account reply template that controls a reply from this address and
not the reply template OF the address itself in the address book.

If I initiate a NEW message to that address, then the correct
New-Message template is used.

Are you using multiple address books with the AB with the
reply-template being not the default AB for the account you're using?

And just to sure, check whether you really don't have another entry
for the same contact. It can be another entry with the address you're
using as secondary address or an entry in a group, A default setting
for AB groups is 'hide items if not explicitly selected' and makes it
easy to overlook those entries when you're looking for them, but TB
doesn't miss them.

Right. Then, as I see it, there is, in my version of The Bat!, an
error. I have a single address, not even another domain of it's name,
located in my pers-add-book WITH the Use Template box checked for both
new-mail and reply-mail.

When I select the message and hit 'reply', I get the Account's reply
template which is wholly, and obviously, different.

BUT ... notice that THIS account, the one I use to gather the Email
Lists to which I subscribe, has its own reply template. And TBUDL has
ITs very own reply template. And that template IS working in this
account.

So one account the reply template is used from the address book and
another account the reply template from the actual account settings is
used.

So, I back up, and think it's my fault.
So, what other things could I be doing incorrectly?

Precedence is as follows (top down):
Personal address book templates
Address book group templates
Folder templates
Account templates

What you're seeing is not the normal behaviour. The most common
cause for this behaviour is that you have multiple entries with the
same address in your address book, this confuses TB and makes its
behaviour unpredictable.

This posting violated the list rules regarding top posting.

Top posting, i.e., typing all your reply text at the top of your
message and following it with all quoted text below, is not
encouraged and we actually request that you not do so on this list
because

a) It makes it difficult to glean context from what you typed at the
   top of the message

and

b) It encourages excessive quoting.

We would much prefer if you quote just that much of the message to
which you're replying, so we know what it is you're referring to,
and then below the quotation, type your response. If you're
responding to more than one part of the original, then quote each
part separately and follow each part with your response.

Now, I know that you may not personally prefer this format and that
you may disagree with some of the reasoning here. We very much
respect this. However, this is the format that most of the active
members here prefer and all members are expected, and are being
asked to use the format that will make most of the active membership
here comfortable reading. You'll likely get a more responsive group
when you post using a style that is comfortable for them to read and
understand.

IMHO, it is not TB bug. Reply is reply to original address and you
can't erase it from new header. You can you "create new msg" and place
into msg body original body transformed by regexp. It is only my

Er ... no. I need a true reply.

The above is just an example, to make things more simple here. The real filter
would include a regexp in place of "address of mine", to pick addresses from
the original message I want TB to reply to.

I think the above example is valid, and it seems to show a bug in TB. Can

Problems with "%TO:" macro in a reply template.

2005-09-22 Thread Luca

Hi all,

I'm trying to set a reply template in a "create automatic reply" filter, with
these two instructions:

  %TO=""
  %TO="[EMAIL PROTECTED]"

This creates a reply with no "To:" field. AFAIK, TB is not supposed to do
that.

If my reply template contains just

  %TO="[EMAIL PROTECTED]"

it creates a reply with a "To:" field containing two addresses, as it's
supposed to do:

  TO: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED]

What's going wrong? It's me or is it my TB Home 3.51.10?

Thanx for any help.

Oh... You want it to remove all instances regardless of whom
replied to whom I thought you just wanted your reply to not quote them.

In this case you're going to need REGEXPS. And even then it could get

The most common reason for that is having multiple entries in your

In an AB template it should be easy. You can insert his/her name
without any macros. ;-)

WS> I use this to get the first name from the address book:
WS> %AbFROMFirstName

You want to get the first name of the recipient in a reply, that means
you can get it the current To or from the old from, so the macro would
be %ABToFirstName (the current To) or %ABOFromFirstName ( the Old From)
When you're using this in an ABTemplate you're sure that you've got an
AB listing for your recipient, but when you're using this in a folder
or account template, it's possible that you haven't got a AB listing
for the original poster, so you could use:
%ABOFromFirstName="OFromFName" this macro'll take the first name from
the AB and when that's not possible it takes the first name from the
old from header.

I didn't notice that, since I don't use a (real) signature, and all
other mailinglists I use (except the ones sponsored by Sourceforge)
that have a listfooter put that sequence above their list-footer on

Only issue is that you'd like to have this template inherited by a set
of subfolders and that can't be done (yet) Easiest would be to set an
Address Book group with al the addresses of your mailing lists and put
this reply template in the properties of said AB group.

BTW This is the third message of yours that I'm replying to this
afternoon (that's no problem) and each time I had to delete your name

signature delimiter ( on a newline) just
above your name TB (and all other grown up mail clients) deletes them
automatically from the reply.
In order to see what I mean, just reply to this message.
This line should be the last one quoted, though it isn't the last in my mail.

Reply template oddity - any thoughts please?

2003-09-08 Thread Anne
Hello TBUDLers,

I have a user on the forum with a curious problem - he has set up a
reply template on his account that says this:

Hello %OFromFName,

%Cursor

--
Best regards,

%FromFName

mailto:%FromAddr

%ODateEn, %OTimeLongEn, %OFromName wrote:

%QUOTES

So far so good - but when he receives a mail from one user and replies
using the template above the reply has the word Message before the
quoted text. So it would appear like this:

MessageHi Fred...blah blah blah...

He has sent me copies of the expanded headers for the mails that cause
this to happen and the sender is using Outlook (see headers below) and
sending as multipart/alternative content type.

MIME-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: multipart/alternative;
boundary="=_NextPart_000_004D_01C37174.9AD10340"
X-Priority: 3 (Normal)
X-MSMail-Priority: Normal
X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook, Build 10.0.4510
Importance: Normal
X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2800.1165

Message

If you look down the headers you'll see there is a title tag enclosing
the word Message - it seems that this is what is appearing at the
start of the quoted message. Is this something that he (a) needs to
ask his correspondent to turn off (if possible)? or is it (b) a bug in
the way that TB! handles multipart/alternative messages generated in
Outlook? (c) any other option?

Anyone able to help us with this one please?

Before you can copy (crtl-C), you must select all (ctrl-A). So
correctly said, what I think the above should do is "ctrl-A followed by
ctrl-C".

Of course ctrl-V is paste. That's what I haven't figured out yet. How
do you paste from the clipboard into the message by macro?

Or do you just use %Clipboard (without parameter) and that will paste
from, instead of copy to, the clipboard?

Have you tried %Clipboard=%Text for crtl-A?

Still thinking about crtl-V...

It works all you have to do is remember to copy the entire contents of
the message to the clipboard before you select the text you want to
quote with the F4 key.

If you are interested here is the reply template I place in the AB for
the individuals I want such a reply.

Just copy the reply template into the AB. You may want to modify the

Sort of, but a little different. Have they updated the macro library
with v2 yet? Actually it is the box quote Carsten put in TBBETA before
v2 was release because with v1.63b8 forward the macros changed some
what. I'm not regex expert, so I rely on them.

Yes I got it to work. It does save some work.

The old way:

Ctrl+A | Ctrl+V | select desired text for in line quoting | F4 | Ctrl+End | Alt+Insert

The new way:

Ctrl+A | Ctrl+V | Select desired text for in line quoting | F4

Is there any way I can implement the select all (i.e. Ctrl+A) and copy
(i.e. Ctrl+V) in the reply template?

I don't think you can alter the behaviour of the F4 key. What you can
do is use a second %Quotes macro below your signature and just hit
reply. Of course, you will then have to manually delete all unwanted
stuff from the %Quotes marco result above your signature.

I gather from your message that you're using Carsten's boxquote macro
as listed in: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/Library.html#boxquotes

Put that under your signature delimiter, replace '|' with '>' and
'%clipboard' with '%text', now the only thing to do should be cleaning
the dashes.
Didn't try it myself though.
%text won't do it by itself, because that doesn't insert a '>'
%quotes won't do it, because you're using a limited selection of the
previous message.

Hello Kevin,

I don't want to use it on mail lists. This is with regard to
correspondence on a programming class where discussion gets quite
technical and I want to maintain prior messages for references. BTW I
don't think the individuals use TB.

NOT for mail lists. :-)

Irrelevant. See above. BTW I don't use TB JUST for mailing lists. To
be honest the mail lists are another resource like this one. It provides
the ability to increase my productivity with TB. So my original question
still holds.
