If you are using POP, you won't even see the spam folder unless you append
"/spam" to the login username.
If you are using IMAP, you need to remove the spam folder from what it
accesses. Every three minutes to check for mail is excessive, but if it's IMAP,
you get the mails as soon as they arrive anyway irrespective of how often you
check.

Tried that, setting a mail read flag. Now checking if that works.

Or you could make an icon (as I just did, simply for trying it out) to change

I think all read confirm requests wait for you to at least open the
mail. In the account properties templates Reading Confirmation
template. Choose the behavior you want. You can delay the send by
choosing Put in Outbox and Prompt Before Action.

If yes, is there a way to say I will never confirm, except for

Hmmm Works the same way for folder level properties (the Confirm

tried it, but that is one thought.

From the top down, I have a very complex tree with a top folder named

a hundred or so, nested to several levels). Below that are the
individual accounts, but I don't create any folders under those; I route
everything to common folders via filtering rules.

It can be done with Replied filters for messages you reply to, I don't
know if it works for forwarded messages also. However, you have to take
into account that if your reply to messages in different folder, you
will need a Replied filter for each Source folder. In my case I only
need one filter because all my messages pending a reply have been

Select the folder. Right click on it and select Mark all Messages Read
or Ctrl+M. I don't think it works on subfolders though.

EB yes, I found this option but it doesn't do it recursively to the

I don't think there's an option to do exactly that. You could use 'Mark
all messages as read' for a folder and repeatedly for all its
subfolders. Another method is to use the search tool: Make sure 'include
subfolders' is checked. Search for a catch-all phrase like sender and '.'
Now mark all mails and choose 'mark as read'.

Yes and no.
I'd like to have the same behavior as you describe, but I don't think
the current implementation is wrong. The function is called mark thread
as read (don't nail me on the exact words, I'm to lazy starting wine
and searching for the correct words) and the functionality both of us
(and maybe and uncounted number of other people out there) would like to
see is mark _sub_-thread as read ... A significant, three letter,

IME it depends on whether the message list or the account tree has the
focus. If the account tree has the focus, the object that you're
applying Mark all as read to is the folder and I would expect all
messages in that folder to be so marked. However, if the focus is on
the message list, I expect the current thread to be marked.

FWIW, this is the behaviour on my system.

No. However, you could create an extra account (same address, same

Not sure what you mean here. When I mark messages as read (via CTRL-M)
no confirmation box comes up.

The only time I see a confirmation box is when I mark a whole folder as
read, which makes sense to me (ever marked 100 unread messages as read

Auto mark as read after filtering

Yes.

Create the filter (Account-Sorting Office Filter). Select string which will
match all messages from the group.

Actions would be to move the message to the desired folder. Then in the Action tab
check the box 'Mark as read' This will be an incoming filter.

Re: Auto mark as read after filtering

2002-02-01 Thread wee David

wD Is there any way to filter messages to a folder and then have
wD them marked as read automatically?

Maybe Actions tab in filter office is what you're looking for, isn't
 it?

Wow. 5 answers within 15 minutes!

There's so much in The Bat! that it's difficult for a new user to know
where to look.

That's what makes this list so good.

Thanks to all who replied.

You could set a time limit for messages to be displayed through the
MT. Be careful not to set it for too short a time - it could get the
MT stuck.

The right-click option for marking a message (or deleting one), good
as it sounds at first, seems not to be feasible. think about it, a
moving target to be right-clicked *and* you have to choose an option
about the message ... At the moment you have chosen it, the message
could have been rolled off.

Thanks, that's almost perfect. I just tested it and the only
problem is after the age limit the message disappears from the
ticker but the ticker bar stills remained up top (even though it's
set to appear 'automatically'). Is that how it's designed to work
or is there something else I'm missing. (I set the max age limit
to 10 seconds).

Thanks again.

That sounds like a prob I once had and why I warned you not to set too
short a time.

I gather your MT makes his round and then gets stuck with the part
displaying how many new messages there are? If so I think it is a bug
that should be fixed. The MT should go away when all messages have
reached their age limits and it is set to Automatic.

mark message read in ticker scroll

2002-01-16 Thread Rick Reumann

I really think the mail ticker is a great feature that I use while I'm
at work. When I'm busy though and a message appears I'd like it if I
could just right click on the message in the ticker and mark it as
read so that the ticker will go away without me having to actually
click on the message. Is there a way I could accomplish this or some
other way that I could quickly close the ticker without reading the
messages and yet have it still appear the next time a new message
comes in? I would think there would be a way to do this since it would
seem like a useful feature. I might see a message going across that is
from someone that I have no interest in reading at the time so I want
the ticker to close, but I still want the ticker to show up again the
next time a new message arrives.

TIA for any advice.

Is there a way to mark a thread as read in the Bat? I subscribe to

Yes - this is an option on the "Actions" tab for filters. Also, you
can denote which folders new messages are shown on the ticker.

MODERATOR
Please use "new message" when posting a new topic on this list. It
makes a complete mess of the threading when you reply to an existing
topic just to get the address of the list filled in. To make it worse,
your message was highlighted for my attention as being part of a
thread in which I was involved! That's one way to grab the moderator's
