Incoming mail management
How can I set theBat so that all incoming mail goes directly to the Inbox without the intermediate stage where I can choose for each message read, receive, delete, etc. I keep my PC on al the time and theBat always running set to check mail every 10 minutes. However the first attempt that does find mail just blocks further check until I "execute" the setting in the intermediate stage. Signatures; Margins/wrapping
1. Is the only way to insert a signature through the use of templates? I am not interested in random signatures or cookies. There is an entry for "signatures" in the help index, but it displays an essay on templates. 2. The message editor wraps nicely until I go back an insert a word or two. Strange server error (solved)
Last night I posted a query based on the following error: LSB The server reports error, The response is: 5.7.1 Missing or literal LSB domains not allowed None of the information that I received was of much help -- no fault of people who tried to help. So, in desperation, I copied the message into Notepad, saved the Notepad file, opened the Notepad file and copied the message into a new e-mail message. It went out without and problem. I think I understand what is going on. The error message has nothing to do with the To: address. The message that I was sending was from a person to whom I always have trouble replying, as my (From:) message is incomplete. That's what was happening here, but since I normally have the From: unchecked with I compose e-mail, I did not realize this. Now why my From: address is corrupted is another matter. It happens only with this individual, so I am not going to lose sleep over it. Leonard S. Not sharing address book templates
My wife and I use the same computer and the same instance of TheBat. It wasn't always this way, but for the obvious reasons, I created a second account for her. In most New Message, Reply and Forward templates, for the signature, I have used the macros %FROMNAME or %FROMFNAME. However, for personal friends, I have typed my nickname as a literal. Since many of these friends are mutual friends, when my wife sends and e-mail note or replies to one or forwards one to one of our friends, the message includes my nickname that she needs to change manually. There does not seem to be an option to create a second address book for her account with different templates. Also, double entries for these friends with different display names, even if it will do the job, will be confusing. So, for those cases where the template uses my nickname, how can my wife steer clear or have her name or her %FROMFNAME (she has no nickname that I have discovered during the past 49+ years that I have known her)? Controlling line length in messages
One issue I have noticed in the 3.nn versions of TheBat is that the length of text lines has increased from about 60 characters to the width of the screen, expecially in replying to a message that had some formatting in it. It used to be that alt l would wrap lines that had become overly long because of the insertion of some text after the line had wrapped to the next line. Not only that, but there is a toolbar with all sorts of formatting options that I normally do not use. Now this phenomenon has not arisen during the course of writing the current note and alt l works as it previously had. Maybe it's worth trying the following if you haven't already. In your address book create a folder Called The Bat (or whatever you want) and add the tbudl@thebat.dutaint.com to that folder. Then, in the folder settings, put your usual quick templates or whatever in the New message and Reply boxes and then all your messages to TBUDL will have those templates or settings. Maybe you've already done that, it's hard to tell from your previous messages. It's also strange that, just with your messages, they arrive about 3 hours after you've sent them so I read all the responses and then your messages arrive. Since no one else has mentioned it, it must be specific to me and maybe something Wanadoo is doing to hold them up a bit :-( Richard, I will try your suggestion about a new folder, but it is not only replying to TheBat list where I have this problem. Well, in my address book I have 28 different groups. Some of them only have a few names but others have many. Almost every group has specific message settings and, in some of the groups, selected individuals have more personal settings themselves so that, when a message is sent to one of them, they get their more personalised message whereas others in the group get the general group message. So, to answer your question, no, you don't need a new folder for everyone in your address book but they do need to be in your address book and either in a folder that already has its own specific mail sending templates or you do need to give specific people in the address book the correct templates or details individually for sending messages so that it all works properly. For instance this message to you, and all my messages to TB! is sent using the same template with the standard greeting, quote heading and sig. At the same time I could assign you a specific and more personal template that would override the folder template that would in turn override the address book template that would override the main general template. Honestly it really does seem, as Roelf has said already, that you've got a setting wrong somewhere and I've been there and done that only recently because I had a filter setting that suddenly put a message from a particular person into the trash folder. I swore black and blue that I'd checked every thing but I hadn't and I had to hang my head in shame! To and CC addressing panes not working
Hello , Starting this morning, for no apparent reason, I cannot put an address into the To: and CC: pages -- neither via the View History button nor via the Address Book button.
