I am also interested in multi-column displays. At a minimum, we would have a button to add a new story column, and the ability to drag and drop tiddlers between columns. There's also the slightly simpler idea of a story view that stacks tiddlers horizontally instead of vertically (something like the in-progress Cecily view). Best wishes Jeremy. Re: [tw] Re: [TW5] Theme adjustment request
But isn't there always one Tiddler that TW5 sees as Current? Yes, TW5 keeps track of the tiddler that you last navigated to. But that doesn't change as you scroll. To do what you're asking, we'd have to add some mechanism to keep track of which tiddlers in the story are visible. The Sticky title theme does not work for me. On browsers that support it, it sticks the title of the topmost visible tiddler to the top of the window. See below for a screenshot. It's pretty cool as it means that the tiddler toolbar is always accessible even as you scroll through a long tiddler. It uses position: sticky, which has patchy support: http://caniuse.com/css-sticky Basically, it's been in Safari for a while, and is coming in the next version of Firefox. Chrome seems to have no interest in implementing it. Best wishes Jeremy. [tw] Re: [TWC] Approach to upgrade older TiddlyWiki with custom fields
Thanks to Ton Gerner for suggesting an approach: The following was once given in this group by Eric Shulman from TiddlyTools. Since you make a backup, it is save to try. If you are having problems using the built-in backstage upgrade process, here's a simple manual procedure that you can use: 1. Download the latest empty.zip from http://www.TiddlyWiki.comhttp://www.tiddlywiki.com/ and extract a copy of empty.html 2. Load your existing TW document into the browser 3. Invoke save changes to create a backup copy of the current document 4. Replace the existing TW document's file on disk with a copy of the latest empty.html 5. Invoke save changes again 6. Reload your document That worked for me using the latest classic version I downloaded from http://classic.tiddlywiki.com/ (2.8.1 I think). I had some problems with the v5 empty.html. I also had issues with Google Chrome due to Java plugin security (jre7u55), it worked better for me in FireFox. I guess I am on the latest version of the Classic tiddlywiki which is solving my immediate issues. Is there a recommended upgrade path to TW5 where I want to display custom fields? I found that my field data is preserved when I view a Tiddler in an upgraded TW5 file, but it does not display by default, and when adding new Tiddlers I have to manually add each of my custom fields. [tw] TW5: quicker search on ios
The default search conducts searches letter by letter as the search term is entered. This is fine on my laptop but is painfully slow on my iPad, where entering each letter after the first has to wait until the search on the letters previously entered has been completed. So if the search term starts with s then the app first lists all tiddlers starting with s and only then can you enter the second letter etc. Is there any way of switching off this feature so the search only starts when the whole search term has been entered ? Re: [tw] What *IS* Tiddlywiki?
I'd add something about encouraging microcontent -- the benefit of TW tags etc are magnified because tiddlers are not entire wiki page documents the way a page of wikipedia content is an entire document. ;D On 25 April 2014 17:09, Leo Staley leosta...@gmail.com wrote: I've been thinking about this. It isn't a wiki software, it's something else. It's like a strange mix between a blog platform, a wiki platform, evernote, and... I can't quite put my finger on it. But here's what I think: *First *it is a *data/information organizing software*. I would argue that, at the user level, Tagging is the most revolutionary, unique, valuable feature of Tiddlywiki, and it blows OneNote, Evernote, etc, out of the water. People use it as novel writing software, or as Getting Things Done and task management software, and so on, because those have lots of information and lots of bits of information that need organizing. And, Even though tagging functionality in other programs is cool and useful, because of the way that Tiddlers are Tags and Tags are Tiddlers, the organizational power Tiddlywiki has is phenomenal. This is why some of the most popular plugins are those which make tagging easier and more intuitive and fluid. One of the great values here is that there is very little limit on the type of data or information one wants to organize. Anything you can put into a tiddler, can be organized, and more. *Second, *it is an* information viewing/navigating software*. Tiddlywiki (plus the right plugins) empowers not only the act of organizing data/information, *But also *viewing/Navigating it. Linking between tiddlers with quick easy wikitext, displayed as a straightforward hyperlink in view mode, is one of the great strengths tiddlywiki has over other note taking software. This is why plugins which facilitate organized display of tiddlers (and page elements) are so popular. It's also why ForEachTiddler is so popular: It helps tiddlers, which have been organized in such-and-such a way, be displayed in this way or that. You can find information that you've placed in the Tiddlywiki via numerous browsing methods, not just searches, like other programs emphasize. *Third, *It is a* document creation platform*. Tiddly wiki makes it so easy to create new documents very quickly, without lots of extra visual fluff, mouse-clicks for formatting, and other distractions, while offering a decently robust set of actual formatting options. One can quickly make a document, of various kinds, and as big or as small as one needs or wants, and then organize it in relation to all of one's other documents. I want to create a couple of dynamic lists for something I need to keep track of? Tiddlywiki (plus the right plugins) can do it. I want to write a novel, with one chapter per tiddler, linked together via tags, with other tiddlers with notes supporting them? Tiddlywiki (plus the right plugins) can do it. I want to write code? Tiddlywiki (plus the right plugins) can do it. *Fourth *What it's not: Despite being displayed in a browser, it's* not really a website creation software.* The inability of search engines to effectively search in a Tiddlywiki is what makes this one so iron-clad.
