[tw] Re: TW5 beginner: sidebar, css etc

2018-02-11 Thread BurningTreeC
Hello @sklpns

1) you can create a tiddler and tag it $:/tags/SideBar, that will add it
as a sidebar tab
then you can list all tiddlers chronologically like this:

<$list filter="[all[tiddlers]!sort[modified]limit[100]]">

<$link to=<>><>//see here
for infos about the link widget

2)
<$button class="tc-btn-invisible">
<$list filter="[all[tiddlers]prefix[$:/state/tab/sidebar]]"
variable="sidebarState">
<$action-setfield $tiddler=<> $value="title of the tab
tiddler, for example: $:/core/ui/SideBar/Tools"/>

<$action-setfield $tiddler="ViewerSource"
$value="file://C:/Google%20Drive/Documents/test.pdf"/>
action!

Hello community,

there's a new plugin on the TiddlyWiki prerelease page (link)
that visually shows the differences of
what you added and deleted while editing a tiddler in the preview panel

Here's the github commit: https://github.com/Jermolene/TiddlyWiki5/pull/3112
As one can read there, it's not settled if this makes it into the
TiddlyWiki core, adding ~30kb to the empty html, or if it will be available

I thought it would be interesting to see what the community thinks about it

So here's an anonymous poll:

Hi,

I'd like to automatically create a new tiddler with the content (formatted
text) of another tiddler called for example "Template" and added tags (for

The title is not so important.

In what manner do you want them combined? The 2nd method seems to give most
everything you want. If you want to pull the tags from somewhere else then
you could use:

<$button> <$action-sendmessage $message="tm-new-tiddler" title="This is

I cannot bring it to work with both:
Putting the formatted text from the template into the new tiddler AND add
some tags to it.

With

<$button message="tm-new-tiddler" param="TaskTemplate">New Task
works fine, adds the formatted text to the new tiddler.

With

<$button> <$action-sendmessage $message="tm-new-tiddler" title="This is newly
created tiddler" tags="OneTag Another Tag" text=<>/> New Tiddler
Works fine too, creates a new tiddler with the title "This is newly created
tiddler", with the tags "OneTag" & "Another Tag" and the text "Today is
11.02.2018".

But I couldn't find out how to combine them...

Hi Mark,

Is there some reason that $:/temp/pptg-taggroup
is
tagged as Character ? It seems to work without the tag.

That is done automatically by the plugin.

I tried it. Added one more parent-tag. And deleted both parent-tags from
$:/temp/pptg-taggroup.
And, you're right, the popup-tagger is still working and the
MultipleTagSearch too :-)

Fine :-)

[tw] A Simple Way to Add the Tag Bar to the Tiddlerinfo Panel

2018-02-11 Thread stefct4
Hi,

There are several plugins related to tagging. However, it's also possible
to simply add the tag bar from the edit template to the tiddlerinfo panel.
This way, tags can be modified without opening a tiddler in edit mode. The
following code adds the tag bar to the tiddlerinfo panel, adds the caption
"Edit Tags", makes the tag bar the default tiddlerinfo tab and adds the
info button to the view template:

<$button>
<$action-listops $tiddler="$:/core/ui/EditTemplate/tags"
$tags="+[append[$:/tags/TiddlerInfo]]"/>
<$action-setfield $tiddler="$:/core/ui/EditTemplate/tags" caption="Edit
Tags"/>
<$action-setfield $tiddler="$:/config/TiddlerInfo/Default"
text="$:/core/ui/EditTemplate/tags"/>
<$action-setfield
$tiddler="$:/config/ViewToolbarButtons/Visibility/$:/core/ui/Buttons/info"
text="show"/>
Make Changes

Just wanted to share this. Maybe some readers find it useful!

Cheers,

Stef

[tw] Re: [Proof of concept] Tiddly Onscreen Keyboard

2018-02-11 Thread @TiddlyTweeter
I know its a bit of a mind bender :-)

Partly because we don't know what fonts are on which users computers.

I'm in midst as looking at the fonts in the standard CSS cascade for TW to
see what the *Common Reliable Core* is (i.e. if you only had one of them
actually on your computer what is the minimal set it would share with all
the others?) That would show what languages can be reliably keyboarded
without any additional fonts.

Get it?

Regarding the GitHub point: Say one wants to give a keyboard in Canadian
Aboriginal (https://www.google.com/get/noto/#sans-cans) you'd likely do
best using the webfont. Its not so difficult. But there is a kinda
methodology missing at the moment to make it as easy as it could be.

Hope this is a bit clearer?

Best wishes

[tw] Newtiddler Widget ($:/plugins/skeeve/newtiddler): Doesn't navigate to

2018-02-11 Thread 'Surya' via TiddlyWiki
Hello everybody,

I imported the $:/plugins/skeeve/newtiddler, to be able to have a button
for building automatically a new tiddler by template and add automatically
some tags to the new tiddler.

Everything works fine, except that, when the new tiddler is created, it
doesn't navigate to and doesn't open it in edit mode.

In a skeleton I wrote:
<$set name="tag1" value="Tag1 Tag2"><$newtiddler title="Newtiddler"
skeleton="TemplateExample" edit="yes">+Z

Clicking on the "+Z"-Button builds a tiddler called "Newtiddler" with
everything in it (formatted text and so on) what the "TemplateExample" has
and adds Tag1 and Tag2 to it.
But, as I said, it doesn't open it in edit-mode and doesn't navigate to it.
I have to got to the recent-tab and open it from there.

Hackable? Or did I something wrong?

Thanks for your help,
Surya

[tw] Re: [TW5] MyMenus Plugin Released - is there anything it can't do?

Mat,

No problems despite your impression the plugins has little impact on your
themes and settings, it is infact designed to fit in with whatever you do and
prefer. All you are seeing is some design choices of my own , example menus
that are not included in the plugin and that have nothing to do with the
plugin, except for the menu style and you can change that. Not withstanding I
will present it differently when I get the chance and add a suit of styling
options.

[tw] Re: How-To?: Search/Filter by multiple Tags with checkboxes or buttons for tags /taggroups

2018-02-11 Thread 'Surya' via TiddlyWiki
Hello Mark,

I got your solution (now called "MultipleTagSearch", but still everything
related to it tagged with "Search by Mark") to work again on my test-site
http://suryas-testwiki.tiddlyspot.com.

I don't know anything about the popup-tagger. Is this change incorporated
into your test wiki? I'm not seeing anything odd.

I imported the popup-tagger to show, what I meant. The affect on every
normal tiddler is the grey bar below the tags. There I have grouped tags by
their parent tags and can add them quite fast to a tiddler. Every parent
tag is then listed in that $:/temp/pptg-taggroup.

I think the "toc-tabbed-internal-nav" code would need to be hacked to stop
presenting results for "children" (tiddlers without tag descendants).

Yes, I think so. But don't know how to hack that.
Or maybe, not doing it with the toc-...? But with anything else?

For showing the choosed tags:
Your suggestion works :-)
But I modified it like this and managed to add a count :-) :

Choosed Tags: <$list filter="[field:criteria[yes]]" storyview="pop"><$set
name="backgroundColor" value=>> class=

<$view field="title" format="text" />
<$button message="tm-remove-tag" param= class="tc-btn-invisible
tc-remove-tag-button">

<$count filter=<> /> matching tiddler:
<$macrocall $name=list-links filter=<> />

[tw] Re: [Proof of concept] Tiddly Onscreen Keyboard

2018-02-11 Thread @TiddlyTweeter
BTC

TW does not come with inbuilt fonts (rightly IMO). It just uses the normal
CSS method of a cascade of font-families to ensure there is at least one
basic font on the computer that works.

Slightly unusual is that the cascade includes the DejaVu font for both
proportional and monospaced fonts. Its good in a way as DejaVu has a very
large character set that covers most languages in Unicode well. But few
people will have that on their computer so can't benefit without
downloading it.

For some situations additional WebFonts can help.

For most European situations the TW cascade will activate available fonts
on computer that should suffice. Get beyond Europe and it is another story.

About the *fonts*:

As I understand it, the standard fonts list in TiddlyWiki covers some of
the most commonly used fonts. So every user should already have at least
one of them installed on its system (knowing or not) so that characters get
rendered without having to include a font into a TiddlyWiki html file.

The font-stylesheets inside tiddlywiki are for fonts one wants to provide
to users that possibly don't have them on their computers. Like
Fontawesome, material icons, special emojis, or just some less-used
fonttypes.

As far as I know, TW doesn't come with integrated fonts but I could be
wrong.

---

for creating a keyboard layout that uses special characters the solution
would be one of two:

a) searching a font and include it in a stylesheet that users need to drag
to their wikies
b) adding informations about which font to install on their system to be
able to render the characters

I would prefer b) if I'm the user - it keeps the file small - fonts are
heavy

[tw] Re: [TW5] MyMenus Plugin Released - is there anything it can't do?

2018-02-11 Thread Mat
Hi again Tony

yes, basically what Josiah says. By opinionated I mean it has a lot of
things that kind of forces the visitor to use TW with your specific
preferences. There is the theme and there are several buttons that are not
in default/empty TW but also (I'm guessing) not part of what your plugin...
or at least whta a "plugin to create menus" should feature in my prejudice
mind. This confuses things and draws attention away from what I'm guessing
are the actual plugin aspects. ... Or just maybe the many tiddler tool
buttons and sidebar buttons *are* required components in your menu plugin?

As for [what I assume are] the actual menu buttons, they are also colored
and with double borders. You are of course 100% free to do this, but it is
very much a matter of taste. Yes, a more minimalistic design is also just a
matter of taste - but a minimal design makes it easier for the potential
user to envision it in his/her own context and with his/her own stylistic
preferences. Also, someone might think "If I install this plugin, will it
then *change *my styling into this?" Using the default colors and buttons
or very minimalistic buttons (in this case I guess that means single
borders) will (IMO) diminish this fear.

That said, maybe the colors and the double borders are examples of settings
in your plugin, that you want to show off? That would make sense to show
then.

Again, I say this as constructive criticism, attempting to help to make
your plugin embrace. Thank you for your generous contributions to our
little community!

2018-02-11 Thread TonyM
Oui, Paris is lovely if not cold compared to Sydney.

Yes, The issues list on the plugin site mentions this problem on the right. My
plan is to provide left justification in toprightbar and sidebar contexts. Of
course some people will place button only menu items on these. In some ways the
menus work better on the top bottom and left allowing the sidebar to be
normally closed.

Personally top left bar and in tiddler menus make the most sense, with above
story if you are using tabbed Tiddlers.

I have plans to extend these options but open to ideas.

Regards
Tony

Thank you, very nice addition to our toolbox. It works well and the look
may be good for a new user, as they can at times have some difficulty
understanding what is TW5 itself at what is from a plugin. What I do not
like so much is that when the buttons are used in the right side the

Hope you have a good time travelling,

Generally TW design inclines towards a quite strict minimalism on design.
Your stuff is different. You use variant colours and borders far more than
usual. Personally I don't find it an issue. I'm much more interested in
what it can do than how it looks.

IF possible *emulation of extant keyboard designs would be good*. AltGr &
AltGr+Shift would allow that.

Of course there is also great option to add a line for items normally under
AltGr that could have normal Shift, rather than anything special.

*In design terms* on-screen keyboards have a flex physical ones don't. And
being able to customise for ones actual usage is brilliant. But matching a
physical keyboard a user already understands, however cumbersome, has
merit.

Once the architecture for constructing the keyboards is a bit clearer I can
make some demos.

Best wishes

Just by way of background here are some NOTES ON FONTS. They don't change
anything you are doing. But I thought you might find it useful ...

Being able to render some languages so you don't get "tofu" like ...

... you need to add the font needed.

To know what extra fonts are needed I will make a *table of the default
fonts in TW* to see what they cover.

*WebFonts* that Google has been advancing are a good solution. In
particular the *NOTO font-family (link)*
that is aiming to cover the full Unicode in a way with consistent style.
They also have OTF font file versions that can be downloaded for offline
use.

Its not currently possible to have a single fully complete all-Unicode
font. Unicode runs to thousands upon thousands of characters. Font file
architecture is limited to thousands.

*The design issue* would be to provide access to the font needed for a
specific keyboard layout not supported by the standard fonts in TW.

In Tiddlywiki one can add online fonts easily. A method is described here:
https://ibnishak.github.io/Tesseract/UI/index.html#How%20to%20use%20google%20fonts%20in%20TW5.

Its involves (1) a link to the font in the header (2) addition of the font
to the stylesheet.

Some keyboard designs will need fonts adding, one way or another. Its
fairly easy if a webfont exists for it. Most keyboard characters ARE
covered for most languages in one webfont of another.

Best wishes
Josiah

[tw] TW5 beginner: sidebar, css etc

2018-02-11 Thread sklpns
Hello Tiddlywiki friends.
I am a long time TWC user just getting my feet wet in the TW5 world.
Hence a couple of absolute beginner's questions, if I may:

1. I can't figure out how to get the recent tab in the sidebar show every
tiddler edited chronologically.
It obviously only shows only regular and not system tiddlers?

(context: I need everything to be there, otherwise
I'm lost as far as getting back from mistakes is concerned.

2. I managed to create a button like this
<$button set="ViewerSource"
setTo='file://C:/Google%20Drive/Documents/test.pdf'>test
How can I add an action to the button so the first thing it does is to
switch the sidebar to a specific tab?

Also: how do I get the above to be a text link instead of a button?

(context: I've added a tab called viewer at the sidebar. It transcludes the
ViewerSource tiddler which loads an iframe of
file://C:/Google%20Drive/Documents/test.pdf. So it's a viewer. But if
there's another tab open I need to switch to Viewer
prior to loading the iframe per the button)

3. I need to get a third state for the topbar button: fullscreen sidebar

(context: currently it toggles between story river fullscreen and story
river+sidebar.
I need a third state, fullscreen sidebar to be toggled in order to show the
aforementioned Viewer fullscreen for beter reading)

4. (This is not nagging. I absolutely love TW for the past 10+ years in its
various incarnations and I can only suspect and respect the amount of
effort that took place behind the scenes and also by the community). Any
idea how to speed TW5 up? True, I am using an old laptop, which however has
an i5-2450@2.5 GH and 6GB of RAM. Seems sluggish to me, maybe because of
using FF portable ESR (for saving reasons)?. Also: any intermediate guide
out there for newbies minus?. I mean beyond the basic operations but not
necessarily as deep as developer level (also welcome). Something like
what you used to do with PageTemplate now you do with
... or the equivalent of inline scripts using
InlineJavascriptPlugin is .. and works thus
or widget/filters/whatever does this or that for you with this or that
syntax.

5. Any chance whatsoever to port TW5 plugins to TWC? (http://tiddlymap.org/
in mind). Are the two completely incompatible?

Hope this all makes sense and apologies for n.4, if one needs to study a
bit then one needs to study and TWC is always there, no worries.

Thanks in advance
sklpns
