Hi Mat,

Great work. Can you upload a screen cast as to how to use the same. The
demo version is not importing the data from google sheet.

[tw5] Re: HTML like forms saving information in data tiddler

2021-06-21 Thread Atul Grover
PS:

1. A separate html-form edition would be great.
2. I wanted to use a simple $:/plugins/tgrosinger/tw5-checklist
<https://tgrosinger.github.io/tw5-checklist/#%24%3A%2Fplugins%2Ftgrosinger%2Ftw5-checklist>
 except
the functionality would vanish in case all items from the list are deleted.
3. I am presently using a combination of
https://kookma.github.io/TW-Todolist/ and ERIC's text-area (tiddler field)
to help users store/save data.

[tw5] Re: HTML like forms saving information in data tiddler

2021-06-21 Thread Atul Grover
Dear All,

In my case I want to allow the users to input and store data (in a
predefined structured way) without giving them the tiddler edit
functionality,
So an HTML form which saves data either in the tiddler fields or in a data
tiddler (whichever is easier) was desired.

I tried using JSON EDITOR, except (as a lay person) I found it difficult to
use. More ready to use schema for basic form types or Links to online
schema creation tool could have helped.

I would love to see a separate section in TW5 dedicated to HTML FORM
functionality, with 2/3 ready to use/copy forms.
I my case even something as simple as a textarea tag (thanks Eric) has
sufficed (for now).
This is a basic functionality could be at par with the basic "Note-Taking"
or " Task-Management" and would propel faster adoption of TW5 by masses.

My first reply was assuming that you wanted to save the input into a
 field in the *current* tiddler.
However, upon re-reading your question, I see that you want to save the
 values "into a data tiddler"

 This is actually quite simple:
 <$edit-text tiddler="sometiddler" index="someindex" tag="textarea"
 class="tc-edit-texteditor"/>

 Notes:
 * The target tiddler "sometiddler" will be saved with
 type="application/json" and will contain
 * any newlines you enter will be automatically encoded as \n
 * any quotes you enter will be automatically encoded as \"

 enjoy,

[tw5] .tid export options

2020-06-21 Thread Atul Grover
Hello everyone,

There is .tid export option on the sidebar, and there is another .tid
export option from each tiddler.

I was under the impression that the .tid exporter on a tiddler exports that
specific tiddler, while the one in the sidebar exports the .tids for the
entire wiki (saving all the tiddlers in the default download folder of the
browser).

Presently both the .tid export seems to be doing the same thing. What am I
missing?

Thanks

Hi Mat,

it seems that the addition of

 .tc-subtitle, .tc-tags-wrapper {

 }

needs to be done somewhere else.
Any other stylesheet/tiddler you can think of?

[tw] Re: Dynamic Photo Album

2017-03-23 Thread Atul Grover
Hi Jon,

Are you planning to import the photos from an external folder or are you
dragging the photos in TW?

FMLK...(from my limited knowledge). If you are dragging the photos then TW
will automatically import the images as svg.

In case you are linking them from external folder then
1. Open an excel sheet
2. Add details of the tiddlers with links to the images in the text field
3. Drop the excel sheet into TW using xslt plugin

[tw] Improvements for mobile version of TW5

2017-03-21 Thread Atul Grover

Hi Jeremy,

Are there any "Theme tweak options" or "Default Sidebar Tab actions" which
will make the TW more suitable for mobiles.

IMHO there could be one which changes the sidebar to open/close from the
side rather than becoming visible/hidden at the top.

Alternatively TW5 could automatically shift this sidebar access
functionality whenever opened on a mobile device.

Hi Jeremy,

Is there any "Theme tweak options" or "Default Sidebar Tab actions" which

Just by making this minor change TW will become much appropriate for mobile
devices.

Better still if TW could automatically shift to such functionality when
opened on a mobile device.

[tw] Re: [TW5] Prerelease of v5.1.14

2016-10-27 Thread Atul Grover
Hi Jeremy,

Kudos for bringing QR and XLSX to TW5.

I was struggling with with .xls to csv to json conversion. I found .json
import responded differently (at least sometimes...even when I am not
drunk!!!) in firefox and crome.
It is great to have the xlsx plugin for TW5.

Also, would it be advisable to have 'CUSTOM CONTENT' as an option in QR
dropdown?
In my use case some tiddlers are referring to a external pdf (from another
website).
QR code linking to that pdf would enable direct download on to the
learner's phone/tablet.

We could have another column for QR (besides title, text, tag) which
will be the custom content shown on the QR code (for that particular
tiddler). What do you think?

Hi Tobias,

Is it possible to make tiddler-bundles using JEDs plugin, then make plugin

i.e can we install (non-shadow) general tiddler using your plugin library?

Or will the import and extraction of general tiddlers only possible using
JEDs method?

A read-only tiddlywiki requires a read-only tiddlymap plugin. The edit

[tw] Saving TW with sidebar section closed

2015-09-14 Thread Atul Grover
Dear all,

When I save TW5 from the "save changes" (tickmark icon), TW5 reopens with
the sidebar open. I want to change this last state of TW5, so that it opens
with sidebar closed.

If I close the sidebar and try saving TW5 with "save page as" mechanism,
the browzer changes the name of the page to "Title - Subtitle", I don't
want to save page with this name.

So how does one save the TW5, such that it opens with sidebar closed?

[tw] Re: Invitation to TiddlyPip: an Apple App Store experiment

2015-08-25 Thread Atul Grover
Hi,

@Mario, reiterating your comments...

We loose control over TW5 one the user downloads a copy. He is then free to
use the same, anonymously, in any manner he wishes.
The user will reestablish contact with the server when (and if) he wished
to download a plugin. But since the plugin library too is an open link
there is no way to monetize say in terms of 'premium-plugins'.

Thus the only way we can monetize TW5 is

1. By offering some additional service to the user for which he would
agree to give back the control to the service provider via xAPI/LRS
integration for creating 'learning dashboards'.

2. By creating a digital market for 'individually-customized-plugins' which
a user can pay for, download and drag into his wiki.

Am I correct so far? Is there any other way?

[tw] Re: Invitation to TiddlyPip: an Apple App Store experiment

2015-08-24 Thread Atul Grover
Dear all,

Can we have a way of monetizing the content delivered via plugins?
The plugin management system can be used for delivering customized content
for individuals/corporate.

Can we monetize for educational/counseling services (via xAPI/LRD
integration) for creating 'learning dashboards' etc?

On Friday, January 30, 2015 at 5:29:01 PM UTC+5:30, Jeremy Ruston wrote:

Do you have an idea for TiddlyWiki content that you think people might pay
 for?

Perhaps a technical manual? Or a guide for your city? Training materials
for your company's field engineer force? Or maybe a manualisation of mental
 health intervention techniques?

Would you be interested in working together to create your multimedia
TiddlyWiki content and wrap it up as an app that can be distributed and
sold on the iPhone/iPad app store?

Here's the background for this invitation: I've recently finished my work
with CTRLio. I'm very grateful to them for the support they've shown to my
work on TiddlyWiki over the last 18 months. But now I need to find new
sources of income to replace my salary. There's a few weeks in which I can
consider some radical options, and this is one of them.

I want to explore the idea of building a commercial TiddlyWiki ecosystem
on top of the Apple platform of iOS, the Mac and iCloud. I'm not making any
moral or philosophical judgement about Apple's place in the world. I'm
considering this plan just because the App Store is one of the places that
someone like me may be able to make money.

This first step is simple: we create a framework for building iOS apps
that provide a terrific, read-only user experience for interacting with
TiddlyWiki documents. I'd want to support free or paid apps, with the
possibility of using in-app purchases for premium content. It would be a
way to deliver a highly custom, interactive user experience around
multimedia content. We would be able to deliver free updates to the app and
content via the app store update process.

Such a simple application would be the quickest way to get into the app
store - I believe in just a few weeks. The aim would be for the app to be
invisible without much of a discernible user interface, just providing the
mechanisms for the content to take centre stage. It certainly shouldn't
resemble the familiar default TiddlyWiki editing interface.

I'm open to suggestions about how to structure this from a business
perspective. I'd need some upfront payment to fund the development, but
hopfully we'd find a big enough handful of people that individual shares of
the startup costs would be relatively small.

If enough people can provide the necessary commercial backing we can use
TiddlyPip to publish Eric's Inside TiddlyWiki: The Missing Manual.

Beyond simple read-only publishing, there would be a number of incremental
improvements we could make once we see regular revenue:

 # Support read/write functionality like annotations, with iCloud syncing
 between iOS devices.

 # Support publishing custom, TiddlyWiki-based applications, such as
tw5.scholars. It wouldn't appear to be a TiddlyWiki file: it would behave
like a custom app for scholarly notetaking (including multi-device sync)

 # Support quizzes and questionnaires, with content unlocked by
 successfully completing exercises

 # Support reporting of progress to the TinCan API

 # Support one-on-one student/educator interactions through the app.
Students might buy an academic textbook along with tokens to ask the author
5 questions via messaging within the app.

 # Create a full end-user application that enables the user to create and
work with TiddlyWiki documents on iOS devices. This is really the ultimate
goal from a development perspective. But it's a lot of work to create such
an app with enough polish to stand out in the app store, and I'm not
convinced there are enough people prepared to pay for apps like TiddlyWiki.
But if we can bootstrap things via the content publishing route then we
ought to be able to gain the time to make the app sufficiently polished and
 useful

It's fun thinking about the possibilities. But we need to take this
journey as a series of small steps, and I need to quickly find out if
there's any hope of completing the first step.

I need to know if there's anyone out there who might be prepared to put
some money on the table based on their belief that they have content that
could viably support this business model. So please let me know if you fit
that description. Ideally, we'd find a handful of people which would make
it easier to fund the initial development, until the app store revenues
 kick in.

Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions,

 Best wishes

 Jeremy

 Hi all,

I've got an announcement, some rhetorical questions, and a couple of
REAL questions I'd love to hear answers to. If you get bored, please
scroll to the end where I ask 'em.

 The Announcement:

Imagine if you could just download and unzip some PHP files, and
instantly have a tiddlyspot-type server running behind your corporate
firewall, on your school server, or just on the Mac Mini in the back
 of your broom cupboard.

That's the goal of a new project that we kicked off a couple of weeks ago.

I've tried to anticipate some questions below...

 Q What's tiddlyspot anyway?

Simon and I have run a free TiddlyWiki host at tiddlyspot.com for
several years. Tiddlyspot makes it really easy to create and save
TiddlyWikis to the web, using BidiX's UploadPlugin and a smattering of
sweet, sweet Ruby goodness. Try it out at http://tiddlyspot.com if
you want to see how it works.

Q *We* kicked off a project? Who's *we*?

Well, Simon and I have wanted to clean up and open source tiddlyspot's
server code for a while, but haven't really had time. Then recently
friend and colleague Robert (known locally as The Amazing Rob)
mentioned that he was looking for an open source project to get into.
 Sha-bam!

 Q Why PHP?

Much as we love Ruby, we figure it's still a little dicey getting Ruby
code to work on free and low cost web hosts. PHP on the other hand
seems to be supported everywhere, and it's a major goal to make the
thing install and run with a minimum of messing about. So PHP it is.

Q Easy-to-deploy huh. Any other major goals?

 - Easy to deploy. Ideally setup-free -- unzip, then browse there.
 - Easy to understand. TW goes in, TW goes out. I'd love to fix the
simultaneous edit problem, that's pretty confusing. Might be out of
 scope here though :)
 - Easy to create sites. Like tiddlyspot, or better. Plus support for
 uploading an existing TW.
 - Easy to enhance. We imagine fancy backup arrangements, printable
PDFs for your GTD lists, etc. might all exist as things you can just
 dump into the addon directory.
 - I can't think of any more, but we'll keep you posted...

Q What stage is it at?

Early. Robert has the basic site creation and hosting working. Still
to come is the selection of site flavour, theming branding, getting
UploadTiddler working and tested, site and server control panels,
fancy backups, and whatever other stuff comes up.

Q I've got some time to kill right now. Got something to look at?

We don't have a working site to fiddle on yet, but the code's here:
 http://github.com/brimstone4814/tiddly-speck/tree/master

You don't need git to grab it; just click the 'download' button to get
the source as a zip. Dump it into an Apache directory and see what
 happens when you hit index.html.

Q What's the volume of a pizza with radius of z, and depth of a?

pi z z a (an old joke but a good one).

 The Questions
 =

There's a few pressing issues I'd love some advice on.

 Licencing:
BSD? GPL? Maybe LGPL? I have a vague sense of the difference
between these, but I have no idea what the real ramifications are of
each. Will GPL get in the way of corporate use, even just
psychologically? And I'd like to allow some kind of plugin
arrangement that permits non-open source addons. Any advice?

Jeremy saw the tin-can repository in one of the hangouts and said that the
TIN-CAN integration was possible/easy.
The last I heard was that TIN-CAN was open-source. I'll do some more
research.
Irrespective of 1984 type feeling, TIN-CAN is imperative if we want to make
tw5 a serious contender in education.
Lets give this integration our best shot.

(have you heard of the Tin-Can API?).

No I didn't, but I did a little research. The concept is interesting, but
imo the most interesting part the question answering machine = the server
side backend seems to be closed source. At least I didn't find any open
 source repositories.

It'll be as if the teacher could watch all the students all the time,
which I know sounds creepy, but it won't be because the whole relationship
of teachers to students will change when they no longer have to administer
 testing. A radical idea?

The idea, to watch all students all the time, reads a little bit like
1984 to me. Exploring new ways to change existing educational systems imo
 is good. Collecting data about
learning progress is good, if both sides, students and teachers, have
_equal_ access to it. ... But systems like this produce very much data.
Much more as any human (t
Teacher) can process. So we will need machines to evaluate the data. ...
But as soon as we try to let machines judge about humans, we are doomed.

 On the other hand.

The idea about a different relationship between student and teacher is
interesting and imo has potential. If both sides use the tools as tools
to check the actual status, to see what can be improved, we are fine. eg:
The teacher sees, that a student should also read a different type of
book, to broaden his/her view and suggests it. OK. ...

But if 'the system' knows about everything that a student does and learns,
in real time, why would there be any need to sit tests or exams?

IMO centralised storage, protecting and misusing private data is the
problem here. I like the idea of TiddlyWiki very much, that you own your
 data.

Would the students be able to cheat? meh - it would become irrelevant
because there would be no tests to cheat on and no incentive for anybody to
'pretend' they had learned anything they hadn't. Pretty futuristic stuff,
of course, but maybe the future is not so far away?

I think the problem is, how can we measure, if someone has learned
 something.

Let's say, that our tin-can tool records, that I did read all pages of
George Orwells novel 1984. Can we say, that I understand the implications
of a system described there. ... Or was it just the cat, that changed pages
while sleeping on the keyboard. (BTW: I was at the pub, having fun :)

... IMO it can't be done by machines. A student presentation about the
 topic, or better,
personal communication between the student and teacher about a specific
 topic has to tell us.

 just my 2 cents.

 have fun!

the original text of the transcluded tiddler?

I can't reproduce that issue. Can you show the full file content that
 you're using?

Unless you mean the way that the preview in the $:/Import tiddler observes
 transclusions?

 Best wishes

 Jeremy

[tw] Re: Using the left side of the TW in centerlized theme

2014-10-31 Thread Atul Grover
Hi everyone,
I guess the best security that can be achieved in TW5 is via
security-through-obscurity.
But in the upcoming releases of TW5 especially with the extended-export-
functionality, even this shall not remain so.

So lets say that I am OK with security through obscurity and want to
implement it in good earnest, which means that although I cannot stop
anyone from opening a text editor and doing whatever, however, I can hide
the export functionality other buttons the frond end UI (aka read-only
theme).

But students can still import a $:/theme tiddler, or easier still, throw
the read only wiki into upgrader and get assess to all the hidden
functionality.

There should atleast be a plugin to make a tw5 non-upgradable. The students
can take the long route but not a shortcut (something is better than
nothing).

Please suggest

[tw] Using the left side of the TW in centerlized theme

2014-10-29 Thread Atul Grover
Dear all,

I would like to include a QR code with my students details on the left side
(in the centralized theme). This would ensure that the TW remains linked to
each student.
They will not be able to make copies of their TWs/share/copy-paste etc. How
can I do so?

[tw] Re: Using the left side of the TW in centerlized theme

2014-10-29 Thread Atul Grover
I hope I am right in assuming that

1. The QR code once imported into TW5 shall get converted into illegible
data which the students will not change from backend.
(We may not need to encrypt the QR code?)
2. The QR code once attached to any fixed corner of the sheet shall link
the specific sheet to specific student.
(Which although can be read from any reader, but can only be made using
some special application?)
3. This sheet not being a test paper (or something on which their lives
depend), most students will not be motivated enough to learn the technology.
(Smart tech students are not my target audience anyway)

My only endeavor is for them to take to any smart tech guy who simply
clones the html files teaches them how to submit as their own.
(something is better than nothing)
I am OK with them copying the tiddlers from each other, since it is a part
of my pedagogy (peer2peer/collaborative).

*@**Danielo* my pedagogy allows for copying the content from others
tiddlers. Just that they should not copy/rename a file as their own.

I found a decent image resizer app.
I have pre-populated the tiddlers with image transclude code.
I guess that will work for now.
Let's see how tw5 holds-up with the students.

[tw] Re: Import button in view toolbar

2014-10-24 Thread Atul Grover

Thx Richard Mario

My use-case is that

Learners use their cellphones (TW5/firefox/tiddlyfox/andriod) to to attach
an image from the gallery of their phones to each topic presented to them
on the TOC/tiddlers.

Presently they take photos and save them to their image gallery.
Then import them using page-toolbar import (file upload/document).
Then change the title of the tiddler to make it easier to transclude. (also
without which it does-not/did-not show up in the 'recent' tab)
Then transclude the image tiddler into the relevant TOC/tiddler.

Problem faced previously (not anymore):
1. The firefox/andriod refreshed everytime they used their camera/video to
import an image directly (thus losing the image).
2. The tiddler saved only when the title was modified.

Present Problem
Images are being loaded either using the [img [xxx.jpg] ] or via transclude
{{tiddlername}} which are both very tedious (for them).

I am trying to somehow shortcut the [[img]] or {{tranclude}} process and
get a way to attach the image directly into a tiddler of choice.
The browse widget in the tiddler takes us back to the 'import/transclude'
process.
The drag and drop is not possible in a mobile environment. Which in any
case is again an 'import/transclude' process.

It would be ideal in case they can 'edit a tiddler' / 'use a widget' to
take a live image which shows up immediately on saving the tiddler. The
widget should automatically resize the image before saving.

I hope I am not asking for too much...

Regards

Please advise,
 Atul Grover

[tw] Re: Import button in view toolbar

2014-10-24 Thread Atul Grover
Thx Danielo,Evolena

Evolena you were right in understanding that I have one-one tiddler-image
relation and the students must transclude their image into one well defined
and preexisting tiddler (in the toc). I have successfully prepared the
transclusion for them. and by renaming the image, it works!!!

On each tiddler there is a little empty image box, which is not bad since it
acts as reminder for the students.

Now, I need to change the image size on import. I believe that by changing
some code in the CSS is can force all images to be (say) 50% of their
original size.
Since every phone takes a photo of different size. What is the best way to
allow the students to manage the image size? Is there an image resize
widget for tw5?

@Mario can you recommend the best image viewer on andriod I can ask my
student to use for resizing images, before they import them?

Thanks

[tw] Re: NotestormTW experimental template / two questions about it

2014-09-10 Thread Atul Grover

Hi David,

love your template. I use your notestorm from my mobile phone (android).

Now, is it possible to have the image-note-card open the phone's camera,
allow the user to take a photo, save it, and insert the image link or
filepath between the double quotes and save the tiddler.

This could be widely used for live self learning (the direction in which
the modern pedagogy is moving).

I think there are html5 tags that can call the android APIs etc.

The URL for now while it is in experimental stage is

It has two glitches in it that I am aware of, and maybe some of you can
 help me overcome them:

 1. In my StyleSheet I have it so that #gifftoolbar does not print. But it
prints anyway. Any idea what I did wrong?

 2. When the tagging area is open, editing and saving tiddlers doesn't
happen automatically. I need to manually save. Seems to be something to do
with the state tiddler being qualified. Again, any ideas on how to overcome
 that?

 Blessings, Dave
