Do a factory reset, you should be connected to the enternet

>From the home screen on the Touch:-

Settings > Advanced > Applet Installer > Enhanced Digital Output >
Install 0.10 > select digital only

When the screen comes back up:-

Settings > Advanced > Digital Output > Select digital output > make your
choice

The server log states that "the username or password is invalid" when
trying to connect from the SBT, so resetting the SBT is likely the
better option, and I have never liked BitDefender, It's not really
needed these days :rolleyes:

HI Jim, let the belt out another notch :)

The OP, Tim, could also try resetting the SBT (I forgot this in my other
reply :o:o)

Remove the SBT power plug from the power socket.

Press in the small button on the back of the SBT (just above the power
inlet) and plug the SBT power back on

Wait until you see that the SBT has been reset, then release the button.

Let the SBT start up, connect to the Network, by default it connects to
MSB, enter your credentials and see what happens

Which Windows OS are you using ?

Bit Defender is not really needed, please try this; uninstall
BitDefender (not halt, pause or disable, but uninstall) reboot the
computer and then try to connect to MSB.

totally remove the EDO applet

then reset the Touch to factory settings

Make sure the firmware is up to date and everything works.

Connect the topuch to the marantz, power on the Marantz, select the
optical input, power on the touch and install the EDO applet, 

Bring us back a stick of rock:) slarty likes  rock too :p

The usb on the Marantz is for a disk or stick or apple thingy

The only two digital inputs are Optical and the spec says 192 kHZ is OK
(this was the first thing I checked)

Maybe the OP can try the other input, but better to ask Marantz (there
might be a firmware issue, or error in the spec sheet)

Well, I don't really know, but I'm guessing the Marantz does not accept
the 192kHz files and Squeezelite (or LMS) resamples it to 96 kHZ

which OS do you have LMS installed on?

have you tried a 48 kHz stream ?

There is a shortage of raspberry pi worldwide at the moment.

I suggest that if you purchase new, use an Approved Reseller

I guess from your username you come from central /eastern Europe, but
may reside elsewhere :)

If you buy from the UK both PiHut and Pimoroni are recommended.

If you want to go cheaper a rpi3 (or better rpi3b+) from a second hand
seller might be an option. But, remember, *Buyer Beware!!* compare
prices with a new rpi and also shipping costs. 

Try and get an official rpi power supply and beware of fake micro SD
cards.

iTunes for your music file playback and mysqueezebox.com for streaming
from the internet ?

so there is not much benefit to be gained from installing the EDO applet
on the SBTouch.

Likewise your Mac-mini is restricted to High Sierra, and frankly,
installing LogitechMediaServer on the Mac-mini is too much of a hassle.

My suggestion is that you purchase a raspberry pi 3b+ or 4b (2g) with
the official rpi foundation power supply  and a  good quality (see
Sandisk) micro sd card.

If you buy new, then do so from a seller approved by the Raspberry Pi
Foundation.

There are daughter boards for the raspberrypi called HATS. Some of these
have SPDIF (co-ax and Toslink) outputs. 

Raspberry pi and HATS are sometimes available second-hand from furum
members upgrading.

Install LMS on the raspberry pi using the piCorePlayer OS and also
utilise the raspberry pi as the player (with attached HAT) and plug the
preferred output into the Metrum dac.

Connect the rasperry pi to the network via Ethernet

Use the SBTouch to control the player output from the raspberry pi (with
your Mac-mini running) you will be able to access the iTunes music
files. 

This will not provide any great change in sound quality but will enhance
your user experience and prove a relatively low cost introduction to
"digital options"

There is a learning curve :):), but plenty of support is availble from
the members here

Please let us know your approximate location, there may be someone close
who can offer a trial unit or invite you to a demo.

Don't rush; have a think about how you want to proceed and do some
research :p.

Hi Chris

As the connections used to work and now don't, you need to try a process
of elimination :)

Using the Nano, first make sure the battery is charged

Then swap the usb connection lead

Then try adding a passive usb hub between the SBT and the Nano

If possible replace / change the power supply for the SBT

plugins

and use a web browser on your phone (I use Kiwi browser just for
Material, on my old G Moto)

One needs to reset the software to v7.7.3 (I might have the version
number slightly wrong) but go to software update on the touch

With EDO all three digital outputs will give the enhanced rate, the
difference may be with the RX chip in the playback device

Have you tried any workarounds, auch as using a usb hub between the
Touch and dac (powered and unpowered). does the dac have a co-ax input 
tha you could use?

Well iI have tried downloading  the kernel update (did not expect that
work,obvs)

and connected the SBTouch via passive usb hub; that did not work.

Replaced the Touch with a rpi3b+ running pCP v 6.1.0 squeezelite and
that worked without a problem.

Remember the EDO is not guarenteed to work with all dacs and as there is
no developement of the Applet, it is what it is :rolleyes:

Well if you ssh into the pi, use raspi-config to activate VNC server

You don't need squeezelite, if you select the Topping as default output
it should play.

Connect the topping and the reboot

Select it as output

Reboot again

Open web browser search for fip radio and it should play

Oh, OK

If you connect the topping direct to the Buster rpi and select it as
main output (top right hand corner, left or right click on volume)

The open the browser and play from fip radio, bbc sounds (and the listen
again from the schedules) and radio paradise does it function correctly
?

Ah ! 

I had forgotten you'r using the EDO on the Touch. (and which thread are
we on, I ask myself :rolleyes: doh!!)

Can you set it up on a pi to  try and resolve the problems ?

It should then work OK on the Touch, which will need the DSD Player
Plugin :o

Well I typed this before seeing your edit


Try this choose DAC output

play a streaming radio station

then start playing a stored music file

if the sound disappears flick the > and then < arrows on the remote

does the sound return ?

If not, cycle through all the inputs

It's too late to start messing now, but I can phone you tomorrow if you
like

another trick, whilst playing is to select the headphone output and then
chang back to the line output (but your remote, although much the same
as mine, has some buttons disabled).

What you get is what you get.  

I think there are missing versions (tweaked for specific problems /
dacs)  somewhere in the ether, I seem to remember Ralphy making an
appeal for copies.

Hi Thomas

apparently the device uses the xmos usb chip, so there is a good chance
that it may be recognised by the Squeezebox Touch.

As always, "buyer beware", make sure thta you can return the device if
it does not work (maybe check with the sellerbefore purchase for
compatability and your right to return).

Look ere, in a previous life, did someone not say of you *"Will no one
rid me of this turbulent priest?"*  :confused:

It was/is a combination of using the remote and pressing the Big
selection button on the front of the DX3Pro.

I see that your one doesn't have the button, so should be fine.

When I first had the DX3Pro I was given some incorrect info from a
retailer (who (at the time I asked) knew as much about as myself). 

After arranging to send the thing back I found (by trial and error) that
I had been selecting the incorrect output :rolleyes:

All good now.

Ah, well that was a combination of PBKAC and poor user instructions from
Topping (or given the first reason, maybe the second was also confusion
in my mind).

I simply failed to comprehend the setup instructions.

I can now flip between internet streaming, playing a music file and then
a podcast sequentially on the usb input without any fannying around with
the remote :o:o:o (hangs head in shame and shuffles off, stage left
:confused::(:o:rolleyes::p).

optical input now has a TV connected and the co-ax is using a Sonos
Connect as source.

I have just swapped out the topping for a Khadas ToneBoard which I know
used to work with the SBT/EDo and get the same message

I have a Topping DX3Pro

It's connected by usb from a rpi3b+ and by spdif co-ax from an Allo
Digione (this als has a librespot instance installed).

All players use Squeezelite on the Raspberrypi Desktop OS 

The LMS is installed on a rp4b (4gb) also running the raspberrypi OS
Desktop

I only have three dsd/dsf files for testing

I installed EDO on my SBT but I get this message when I navigate to LMS

I'm certain that when I connected the Topping several months ago, that
it did work with the EDO/DSD. But not, apparently, any more. 
The SBT software is up to date. LMS is >  version 7.9.3 - 1591161343 @ Thu Jun 
4 04:15:24 CEST 2020

Anyway, both the USB and Co-ax work from the SBT into the Topping.

With usb I have to use the remote to either Stop/start or switch input
when changing from one source, say local music files, to another, eg.
internet radio.

With the Spdif co-ax I can just switch source and get immediate playback
(as normal).

If your dac is the Topping e30 then it supports native playback of DSD.

Have your read the user manual ?

Have you set the player volume to 100% in the LMS > Settings > Player >
Audio (and also on the SBT) ?

With the SBT connected to the dac (the dac powered on with usb selected)
do a hard reset of the SBT (pull the plug and then restart)

Complete speculation :p

But why on earth would it work ? Just think about it :)

The SBT is not an conventional computer, even getting usb dongles (wi-fi
or other) to work on a raspberrypi is sometime fraught with difficulty
and failure.

Try a Vonets, I have one (a VAP11N) to the one suggested and it works
fine. It might be possible to use the usb from the SBT to power the
device :confused:

There are also other wireless bridges available

Hi Art

Spotify and Qobuz are both plugins of LMS

Tidal (also a Plugin) is installed, first by configuring a mysqueezebox
account

All three, offer trial periods of variable length (normally they take an
initial subscription fee which will automatically renew at the end of
the trial period, unless cancelled prior to that end.

As advised by *garym* on your other thread, I think a raspberry pi
running LMS and a squeezelite player is a better way forward. 

Leave the current LMS on the mac (disable it from starting) and start
with a pi (use LMS v7.9.3) and play around for a while.

It's not difficult, but can be frustrating, plenty of help available.

It might be worthwhile using EDO on the Touch for the co-ax and a 5volt
1amp supply for the dac thingy !

But that neeeds an extra plug and whatknot and i'm guessing you don't
want that.

Well as bpa referenced, the usb2 is 500ma so maybe the SBT will drive
it.

If using the non EDO co-ax output it  will be limited to 96 kHz

I have never fancied messing with Vortexbox, for the same reason I'm
ignoring Mesh routers. :p

If you search the forum you will find posts with regard to both, good
luck.

I suggested the router thing, as that should not cost any money and
_may_ work.

Think so, and looking at the specs, one can't split the bands (speaking
as a network numpty).

I think it has to be Ethernet connection or maybe a cheapo wireless
bridge, or use the old router, if possible

Is the new router dual band ?

If so, split the two bands with a SSID for each band.

you will just need b,g,n 

It might help others, if you give the model of the router and which
country you are in, ISP might also help.

Well I was going to do the same.

I had even arrrange a RTM but then I re-read the very poor user
instructions and realised I was setting it up incorrectly.

Re-cycling through the three dac outputs corrected my error.

I used it as a DAC/pre-amp for a while but prefer it into an active
pre-amp.

But if your unhappy, send it back

On the remote, cycle through "Line Out" and the button with the
headphone symbol (this has two settings) then return to the "dac"
output. 

If you are in "Dac" mode and can adjust volume on the Topping  with
either the remote or volume knob then the setting is incorrect.

After setting up the dac, use the remote control to select the correct
output (make sure your volume control on the amp is low) Use the remote
to cycle through the output settings.

Have you tried to play the problem files direct into the Topping ?

The Topping has two settings for the USB input, the default is F-1
39kHz, have you tried switching to F-2 76 kHz ?

1- pull the power plug on the Touch, wait a minute or so , plug back in.

2- Do a factory reset of the Touch

3- restart the router

4- return the router to factory default and then restart

It means that no one has reported it working.

DSD through the SBT will be DOP playback, so I would recommend looking
at usb dacs that you can utilise with a rpi.

Depends how many DSD files you have (or intend to have) and how much you
want to spend on a DAC.

It might help your research if you look on the various hi-fi forums that
exist.

Start with ones in your own country and then explore.

I have a DX3 pro which uses the same USB XMOS XU208 Interface.

I have just connected it to the SBT and it is working.

It was a bit of a faff to get it to work properly, the device manual is
a poor read and the software clunky. 

First set the software for the device into DAC mode.

Connected the SBT and Topping together, started playbackno sound.

Cycled through the inputs, back to USB and got sound, but this was still
controled by the volume knob.

Checked that dac setting  was default ...it was.

Started playback again music but still controlled by the volume
knob.

I used the remote control to cycle between headphones and line-out and
the dac set itself into the correct output mode...correct bit rate on
the screen instead of the volume setting.

I changed from fip radio to Radio Paradise and the music disappeared.

Likewise with BBC Radio 3, Spotify, Tidal and back to fip, each time the
bit rate changed on the display.. but no music.:confused:

Got the music to play by resetting the output using the remote, just
flipping from usb to the next and then back.

Radio Paradise a bit reluctant but eventually I got it to function.

Seems like a software glitch in the Topping:(

I have been using mine as a usb dac into a pre-amp and also as a pre-amp
into power amplifiers with none of the same problems. 

Quite like it, especially the price! (sad comment on the state of things
really..sigh)
