LZMA is much higher compression at a cost of taking more time to compress/uncompress. It's the newer bz2.

It was gnu/linux. It is systemd/linux now as systemd slowly but surely replaces all the utilities with its own incompatable versions.

Most of the files on the iso are .zips (pk3s) so I'm suprised you got a gig of compression.

For anyone that wants an update between versions, a contributor has uploaded the files you need. Here is a latest code update where the bots now know about grenades etc: they will throw grenades, flashbangs, smokegrenades, place landmines and ATmines, and also bury mines (if they can (if a mine in on ground, grass, snow, sand, dirt, etc it can be buried with the bury command)) Makes the game more fun :D And hard to assault a base. Flashbangs really blind you blanca for awhile. Release 54: There are now over 72 weapons, thus code has been reworked to allow up to 24*4 weapons (96). (items.qh code in qcsrc/common) New weapons: War Mallet, Japanese Mallet (making 74 weapons total). Caltrop secondary now is more useful: drops many caltrops (10 to 15). (old secondary which threw them like darts can be enabled via cvar if desired) Added: AT mines Landmines and AT mines can be placed by hand. AT mines create large explosion. If a player has landmines and the minelayer weapon (throws mines), and has no ammo, the minelayer weapon will use the placable landmines as ammunition. If the player has the minelayer weapon equipped while placing the small landmines by hand (via the toss grenade button (G) after selecting a grenade (v) those landmines will be remotely detonatbale by pressing the minelayer secondary. Otherwise they will not be (this is intentional and required more code to set up). Mines (landmines / AT mines / mines layed by minelayer weapon) can now be buried if placed on dirt, snow, grass, etc via the bury command. Check out createstartweapons button to set what mines/grenades/etc you start with. Bot now have a _mele weapon priority list, in addition to the normal _far, _mid, _close Thus they know when not to use a bow but use a cudgel instead. Incorrect. PK3s can contain compiled game code (ex: quake C ) to be run on a VM, or really anything.

consider that the only essential freedom when it comes to artistic data is the freedom to redistribute exact copies. Not being allowed to modify the content is not essential (as it is for software) because you do not achieve a work with non-functional data. Disagree. Code and are are the same. Atleast they feel the same to me when I'm working on either. Neither are science. Data can be in code or pulled from seperate file. No difference. More fun when you code it though because you then really know how to manipulate it.

There is no focus other than to be like how life is somewhat. In life, now, we have access to everything from ancient medieval weapons to modern weapons. Same with planes, tanks, everything. The past doesn't disappear, it just gets ignored. Still with us are the castles and buildings of old, but we only build grey shacks now. There are 72 weapons now. Every so often work is given to an underprivileged section of the code, so that you feel you have full weapon sets for all parts (future, modern, medeval, etc), that nothing is just tacked on. This is done by adding, not subtracting. The aim of the project is to not restrict the player. Also for the builders to enjoy. Also to be a world a mapper can just start working on (hence the many texture packs and the editor included). To bring back the fun of Unreal and UT(99), which you could just put in your computer and start editing castles and towns and then fight in them. (linux binaries of the map editor are in bla/mapping/netradiant/somethinglinux.zip) (had to be compressed because running out of room on DVD) Thankyou for feed back, keep it coming :) A 2nd supplemental DVD is being pondered. That can house new (opensource) player models and contributed maps if anyone want's to add stuff. Only a few megs are left on 1st DVD so that has to be used for code and code-used-models.

The space ones were alot of fun to make. InterspaceStation is based on an earlier map I made for UnrealTournament(99) when I was starting to map. Spaceloop uses warpzones, if you look in the .map file in gtk or netradiant you'll see how they're all angled warpzones, this lets it loop around. This is similar to how the 2001 space odyssey map for Unreal(97) was made. making a tarball would be a bother. After every editing session a new DVD is burned. Making an ISO is simply not burning the DVD physically, it fits into what is done. A 4gb tarball wouldn't be any easier for anyone to download than an ISO, and windows users wouldn't know what to do with it. Everyone can atleast burn an ISO to DVD (as they do with all their pirated games) and access the files even if they don't know how to mount an iso. Thank you for your game. Thanks for liking it, you're one of the few. Mostly there are Justice Warriors trying to say everything made is crap (because they do not like who made it) and should be taken down (because they do not like what is said). If you are not a progressive they delete your work from the hosts and ostracize you. You know, you could just ship the base game in a tarball (compressed!), and ship any optional things (e.g. extra maps) separately. I mean, you do know that 4.4 GB takes hours to download on a DSL connection like mine, right? Also, if you don't care that people don't want to spend hours downloading a 4.4 GB ISO just to try out a game that they know almost nothing about, why are you cross-posting drama over here?

You know, it's fine to not care if people play the game, but you're clearly going out of your way to announce the game on various places. Do you not see the contradiction? Hey guys, play my game! WTF? A 4.4 GB ISO? I'm not downloading that! Whatever, I don't care if you play it. It's even worse when you act offended by people complaining that what you've provided it too inconvenient to download. The whole reason of making the distribution in the beginning was to get around the censorship in Xonotic forums of the maps (every time a map was posted they deleted the post because they didn't like opinions of author, now ALL the maps I made (50+) are downloaded 7K times vs a handful of times for each map prior). Anyone that wants separate stuff can get it from the git repos. Once in awhile seperate pk3s are uploaded, but this is once in a great while. Honestly, most opensource communites are similar to repressive communist dictatorships. They'd jail anyone not progressive if they could, and have said so many times to me atleast. They also were sure to forward complaints about things that had been _said_ to european police agencies, hoping to have me jailed if I ever went to whatever feminist/leftists nanny state they reported to. What they can do now is ban and delete and that is what they do. It does not matter what you make, it matters what you believe. Be it Debian or Nexuiz / Xonotic, that's who those people are.

Greetings, thanks to the Nouveau team and the kernel packaged by jxself, I've finally been able to test the the game. I have to say that I'm quite impressed, there are a lot of new features, weapons and models and I think that the level design is very good having in mind that everything is experimental and not meant to be practically playable yet. The design reminds me a lot of Unreal Tournament 3 which is my favorite arena shooter I've ever played (that was before I discovered free software) so that is a good thing. My favorite levels are the international space station and the rotating space ring. The gun fire is also very cool and I like what you did with the recoil. I would like to know what is th focus of the project because I don't get the direction you want to go. Thank you again chaosesqueteam.

You are quoting words I didn't write: Unreal Tournament 3 being my favourite doesn't mean it is the best. And I agree with you that Quake 3/Openarena is better for it is more balanced and competitive-oriented. Even with that, I've enjoyed more Unreal Tournament 3 because of the scale, level design and vehicle gameplay. I've never played it since the day I renounced proprietary software though.

:) I reject also any kind of non-free software (now. If you asked me a couple of years ago I would have stared at you like a dead fish if you mentioned free software..), so no proprietary games. I know the engine source code for Q3A is free (http://ioquake3.org/) but you still need the .wad (was it .wad?) which is not free software. it's been a long time since I played it on Xubuntu with the open source ati driver..and the non-free firmware.. My favorite game was Half-life. When it came out in 1998 I remember I finished it two times in arow in like three days.. paused only for school, lunch and dinner.. I think I finished that one 20 times!! Then HL2 came out and it has been ever since my favorite game - best thing ever made in my humble opinion! Quake 3 was and is my favorite arena shooter. Open arena is great too. Not the same though. Haven't tried chaosesque. Haven't played for very long (other then some very occasional zsnes) cheers!

Thanks for the feedback. Note: Chaosesque doesn't run any public servers. The last time one of the contributors ran a server of any kind, said server was probed for hacking, the IPs were traced back to specific IPs that accessed specific images posted only to a certain forum post. (nmap scan, and accessing specific image were same IPs), thus it was strongly suspected that the people wishing to attack that contributor's server were connected to the geek-feminist/debian-woman/linux-chix/cannot-remember/it'soneofthose group. They objected to contributors opinion on them and wished to take down contributors server. Later they succeeded in removing some of contributors opensource text console videogames (a casino simulation). Thus none of the chaosesque contributors run a public server, website, etc. If anyone would like to do so that would be welcomed (I guess put chaosesque in the server name so people know it's not vanilla xonotic and can connect if they want chaosesque on the net) What did you like most about the game?

Note: the 15gb tarball is always out of date, but shows one how to set up the dev environment, then one can checkout the git repos as new repos. xonotic-concrete/xonotic/data/xonotic-data.pk3dir/ is the main one updated often. xonotic-concrete/xonotic/data/xonotic-maps.pk3dir is another but needed to be updated less often. (or one can just go with the iso.s)

The source is included in the .iso. The engine source is in darkplacesblablabla.zip. The gamecode source is in /data/zz9blablabla.pk3 (qcsrc etc). So you allready have it :) Source for the media (.blender files) is in the git repo on the page. The sourcecode also exists in the git repos. Extra stuff like DVD stickers exists in the mediasource git repo. From time to time a 15GB tarball cut into pieces is uploaded which has everything all set up how it is developed.

Release 52: New weapons: English Longbow, Cudgel (modeled in blender this week) New Mutator options: remove weapons from map on start. Replace weapons on map with: spikes, fire, pillar of flame, jumppads, bouncer, baloon, tanktraps, buildings, foliage. You can also light up your crossbow bolt or longbow arrow if near a burning item (something on fire or fire particles) by pressing F+R keys (use and reload keys). Also you can move your gun to the center by pressing the Semicolon (;) key next to L. Thus you can more easily shoot out of arrow slits in Castles etc (also works with L: turn gun to the side) Enjoy! Does anyone have any feature requests? If it is simple I may beable to do it. If it seems complex maybe not, but somethings that you might think are complex aren't in this game, and somethings you might think are simple might be difficult for me to implement due to need of engine hacking.

New version 50. Added AKS-74u and Tokarev pistol. Worked on LOD2 models alot. Now all the WW1 biplanes / triplanes have LOD2 models (ie the thrid level of detail model) aswell as the yugo. Also new option in advanced menu to switch teamspawns and switch team bases. This can be useful when using CTF maps from, say, UrbanTerror as the things seem to be switched. Those LOD2 models took along time to do, it seems to give improvement (alot) on my machine. Also worked on making them used more, only when you get right up close do the lod1 and then lod0 (normal) model are used. Enjoy! New Release: 46. Did a good deal of code having to do with doors and the buildable building code. You can now build doors. You can also teamlock doors you build or doors that come with buildings you build. Also in the code you can directly set door trigger mins/maxs and set doors to open for less things than normaly they would (ie: only players/bots/ and monsters, not just anything that moves). Some new commands have also been added: lock, unlock, softlock, hardlock, multitool placetype and multitool buildingsnap. Placetype allows you to switch from building where you are standing to building where you are looking forward a little bit. Thanks for the feedback :D. Glad you like what is being done. As you noted, in addition to linux, the game runs on windows aswell (also mac). This is because of it's great multiplatform engine (Darkplaces) so the thanks really goes to Lord Havoc, Divverent, etc. The Quake C game code runs ontop of that and can thusly run anywhere the engine can run.

Sorry, I have to disagree: Believe it or not, there are very good games in the free software world and Battle For Westnoth, Megaglest, The Mana World, Colobot Gold, Nethack, Openarena, The Dark Mod, Freedoom, 0.A.D, Sthendal, Powermanga, Redeclipse and Aleph One are examples of good free as in freedom games (At least the source code).

I'm not much of a gamer anymore, mainly because I'm pretty damn busy as a grad student, but I want to say that I really appreciate the work that you guys do. Telling someone reliant on windows for games to switch away for ethical reasons is asking them to make a huge sacrifice, and whether we like it or not most gamers won't commit to that until free gaming gets better. An improvement there would benefit the free software community far beyond just gaming. I think that it's among the most urgent situations in free software, and I'm sorry to see you're not getting any feedback here. I believe most of the reason for this thread being so barren is that historically the state of free gaming has been so bad that the vast majority of those committed to free software have mostly given up on games. I hope it's not too discouraging, because you're doing a great thing.

A completely free libre GPL + CC0/CCBY (for some media) Clarification Game is completely free. Code and media. Most media is GPL, some is CC0/CCBY (sorta bsd style free media licenses). Its all libre.
