The Bible does not suggest. It states plainly that we can eat anything . What goes into man is not important. What comes out of man is. What ia suggested, is moderation.

I just watched Dr. Atkins interviewed on Larry King Live about his dietplan. At this time of the year it seems that everyone has a resolution tolose weight, and TV commercials and programs seem to talk about nothingelse. One screwy diet after another, all contradicting themselves!I'm wondering if anyone has any idea what kind of diet, if any, the Biblesuggests that we should follow. Since you folks provided ZERO input on your"new year's resolutions"; can anyone offer suggestions on this topic?Izzy--"Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer every man." Im intrigued by
it, but have doubts about my ability to give up carbs TOTALLY for even two
weeks! Also I read it once before and thought there was no way I could eat such
an abnormal diet for the rest of my life. I have an acquaintance who has been
on the INITIAL part of the diet for many yearsher liver is being
destroyed!!! Of course, you are not told to do that at all.

How do you eat today, Laura, on the
modified diet? How much weight have you lost on the diet? Id sure like
to loose at least 5 lbs before going to Palm
  Springs in 3 weeks! J

I didn't see the program but am familiar with this diet. In fact it
worked for me and I still follow a modified form of Atkins diet. What was
your opinion??? I think there is some truth to avoiding refined
sugar and excessive carbs.. Laura

I see the Law as being behind our will. In other words,
what makes us able to choose to do right, what makes

of the Law in our lives. The law has the power to do
this by setting the definition of right from wrong.

You seem to keep ignoring Romans 7. We are not able to choose to do right
simply by the law.

Rom 7:4 Wherefore, my brethren, YE ALSO ARE BECOME DEAD TO THE LAW BY THE
BODY OF CHRIST; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is
raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.
Rom 7:5 For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, WHICH WERE BY
THE LAW, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto DEATH.
Rom 7:6 But NOW WE ARE DELIVERED FROM THE LAW, that being dead wherein we
were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness
of the letter.
...
Rom 7:9 For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came,
sin revived, and I died.

Read carefully the next verse:

Rom 7:18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good
thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good
I find not.

You wrote that the law makes us able to choose to do right. This is not
what Paul says in Roman 7:18. Paul said, how to perform that which is good
I find not. This is describing life under the law without the Spirit of
Christ within us.

Is it possible that you have not yet experienced the Holy Spirit as per
Romans 8? Is it possible that you know only of the life of Romans 7, the
life of being under law? I'm just asking, not accusing. You seem to keep
dodging Romans 7, and I don't know if it is because you don't understand
Romans 7 or if we are just not communicating very well.

Peace be with you.

What's wrong with fasting? Fast 5 days and follow it with moderation in
eating. You can easily meet your 5 lb. goal doing that.

The Pharisees fasted two days a week, and so did the early Christians
according to the Didache (~150 A.D.). I often wonder if they knew something
most of our culture has forgotten. :-)

Re: [TruthTalk] Godly diet?

2003-01-07 Thread Marlin Halverson

Peter said that he never ate the creaturesin the
vision, and there is no record that he did. When the vision ended, he did
not sit down and pig out on mice and swine. The scripture clearly shows
that it was a vision to Peter to help him receive Cornelius.

The problem came withthe influence of Judaism which
has its own vocabulary aside from the scripture. Judaism designated people
as "unclean" or "common." The Lord did not want Peter to practice
Judaism, and call somebody"unclean" that God had made clean. Peter
got the message when Cornelius came to the door.

God's people are not to eat unclean food. God's
people are not to partake of unclean spirits. "Christians" want to do both
through what they ingest physically and through what they celebrate that is
Pagan in origin. God's people are supposed to be able to discern the clean
from the unclean, and to have discernment of spirits. Clean and unclean
meats pre-date Noah and the sweet "Law of Moses" which came from
God.

Gentiles may eat unclean food. Israelites were
permitted to sell swine to the Gentiles, who could do whatever they wished with
them. I could go into the reasons why, and how God has a worm causing
trichinosis that infects pigs; and then "Christians" will say that we have
refrigerators now and, besides, we feed our pigs good feed. That is not
the issue, really.

The real issue is this: "If you
love me, keep the commandments." I love God. I fear God. I
honor His Word.

If somebody wants to eat a mouse, let it not be me.
Yuk.

I do think that whole grains and avoiding enriched flour is a good idea. We could go crazy with Biblical dietary laws if we tried. Don't you think a lot of their laws concerning food were because they had no way to preserve it and cook it properly? Laura

It is true that God was setting Peter up to meet Cornelius.
Still, what God has called clean, you have no right to
call unclean.
How do you avoid the words of Jesus in Mark 7:18-22?
I would really like to know what keeps your mind focused
on things that never applied to you, unless you are a Jew
trusting the law instead of the work of Jesus for avoiding
eternity in Hell.

Peter said that he never ate the creaturesin the vision, and there is no record that he did. When the vision ended, he did not sit down and pig out on mice and swine. The scripture clearly shows that it was a vision to Peter to help him receive Cornelius.

The problem came withthe influence of Judaism which has its own vocabulary aside from the scripture. Judaism designated people as "unclean" or "common." The Lord did not want Peter to practice Judaism, and call somebody"unclean" that God had made clean. Peter got the message when Cornelius came to the door.

God's people are not to eat unclean food. God's people are not to partake of unclean spirits. "Christians" want to do both through what they ingest physically and through what they celebrate that is Pagan in origin. God's people are supposed to be able to discern the clean from the unclean, and to have discernment of spirits. Clean and unclean meats pre-date Noah and the sweet "Law of Moses" which came from God.

Gentiles may eat unclean food. Israelites were permitted to sell swine to the Gentiles, who could do whatever they wished with them. I could go into the reasons why, and how God has a worm causing trichinosis that infects pigs; and then "Christians" will say that we have refrigerators now and, besides, we feed our pigs good feed. That is not the issue, really.

The real issue is this: "If you love me, keep the commandments." I love God. I fear God. I honor His Word.

If somebody wants to eat a mouse, let it not be me. Yuk.

Hi Marlin,

So what’s the point? Are you saying we still should not be eating pork (and mice?). I know that is a big controversy. Most Believers think that Peters vision about all foods being declared clean means that we can eat anything now. Do you disagree? I’d appreciate your input.

I wonder if anyone has done any scientific
studies on the benefits, if any, of avoiding the unclean foods specified in the
OT. It seems that all of them are scavengers. We do know that decayed foods,
which scavengers eat, are full of free radicals, which have been associated
with causing cancer. I dont know for sure if God still considers them
unclean or not, but there must have been good reason for Him to ban them in the
first place.

I would be interested in what you can say
about why God caused swine to have trichinosis.

The Bible does not
suggest. It states plainly that we can eat anything
. What goes into man is not important. What comes
out of man is. What ia suggested, is
moderation.

diet?

I just watched Dr.
Atkins interviewed on Larry King Live about his dietplan. At
this time of the year it seems that everyone has a resolution
tolose weight, and TV commercials and programs seem to talk
about nothingelse. One screwy diet after another, all
contradicting themselves!I'm wondering if anyone has any
idea what kind of diet, if any, the Biblesuggests that we
should follow. Since you folks provided ZERO input on
your"new year's resolutions"; can anyone offer suggestions
on this topic?Izzy--"Let your
