[Bug 157267] Re: Firefox script broken if not invoked as /usr/bin/firefox

2008-01-03 Thread Panayiotis Karabassis
The shell script is trying to `cd` from /usr/X11R6/bin/ to ../lib/firefox/.
Because /usr/X11R6/bin/ is a symbolic link to ../bin this all should
resolve to /usr/lib/firefox.
However /bin/sh by default behaves differently and for this reason it is
recommended to use `cd` and `pwd` with the -P switch (I found this by
googling) when symlinks are involved:

If the -P option is in effect, the cd utility shall perform actions
equivalent to the chdir() function, called with curpath as the path
argument. If these actions succeed, the PWD environment variable shall
be set to an absolute pathname for the current working directory and
shall not contain filename components that, in the context of pathname
resolution, refer to a file of type symbolic link. If there is
insufficient permission on the new directory, or on any parent of that
directory, to determine the current working directory, the value of the
PWD environment variable is unspecified. If the actions equivalent to
chdir() fail for any reason, the cd utility shall display an appropriate
error message and not alter the PWD environment variable. Whether the
actions equivalent to chdir() succeed or fail, no further steps shall be
taken.

At any rate, the attached patch fixes the problem on my system (I just
changed the one instance that caused it).

Regards,
  Panayiotis

[Bug 154028] Re: Applications Consistently output sh: jackd: command not found when playing sounds with gstreamer.

2008-01-03 Thread tim
Aaron, I was having the same issue with finch. Here's how I've solved
it: Firstly you need to open the sound preferences (e.g. with ALT + A).
Then you need to select the method Command. In the field Sound
command you need to put in the following: aplay -q %s (without
quotes).

Hope this helps.

Good luck!

[Bug 180205] Personal data manager doesn't display any password information

2008-01-03 Thread Senor Hubris
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

Epiphany's personal data manager does not display any information about
stored passwords (when you click on the 'Passwords' tab you get an empty
window). The files signon.txt and signon2.txt exist in the
$HOME/.gnome2/epiphany/mozilla/epiphany directory. I believe these are
the files that xulrunner and/or firefox use for storing this personal
information. An 'strace -e trace=open' suggests that these files aren't
being looked for by epiphany. Also epiphany no longer asks if you want
to 'remember' passwords.

[Bug 71567] Re: LVM Snapshot removal causes intermittent kernel panic

2008-01-03 Thread Serge van Ginderachter
As this issue probaly will never be resolved, I tried out another idea:
installing the latest edgy kernel on dapper.

~# dpkg -i linux-image-2.6.17-12-server_2.6.17.1-12.42_i386.deb

This installs and boots without any problems. Hopefully this LVM bug is
resolved in this kernel.

Ubuntu changes that can be dropped:
- - Build-depends on xsltproc: tomcat5.5 package used to build documentation

not used in build process and the documentation looks the same with or without
it. (http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg11269.html and Debian

Can you provide us with a step-by-step testcase to reproduce?

[Bug 152362] Re: icedtea-java7-plugin always crashes firefox

2008-01-03 Thread Tapani Tarvainen
Just a data point:
Nothing much (including Sun java test page) worked for me with the
~b21 versions that come from the standard repo, but installing
icedtea-java7-bin_7~b22-1.5~20071018-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb
icedtea-java7-jre_7~b22-1.5~20071018-0ubuntu1_all.deb

[Bug 144242] Re: DVD+R disc does not mount

2008-01-03 Thread tomates
I seem to have solved this problem. It doesn't appear to be a bug as
much as a configuration error, at least on my machine.

I noticed in a log file, following an X failure, that there was a
message that udftools hadn't started as there were no suitable
devices. Scouting around I found out that my optical device wasn't
listed in /etc/default/udftools. Entering my device in the DEVICE=
line and then running /etc/init.d/udftools allows me to mount my
previously packet written DVD+RW.

Will check but I believe that this should also work every time I startup

Re: [Bug 179471] Re: Merge audacious 1.4.5-1 and audacious-plugins 1.4.4-1 from Debian unstable (main)

2008-01-03 Thread William Pitcock
Hi Miguel,

It's much easier for me to maintain this package in Ubuntu, as I have
all of the patches immediately available to me, allowing me to quickly
create the necessary debdiffs correctly.

While I typically agree that people should back off when something is
assigned, there have been cases in the past where the package has been
screwed over. Since I am also part of upstream, this creates additional
load on the upstream development resources.

As a result, I went ahead and did the merge, so that I would know for a
fact that it was done correctly.

[Bug 180206] Please sync xine-lib (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2008-01-03 Thread Reinhard Tartler
Public bug reported:

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

 affects ubuntu/xine-lib
 status confirmed
 subscribe ubuntu-archive

Please sync xine-lib (main) from Debian unstable (main).

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
Ubuntu Changes have been merged into the debian package

Changelog since current hardy version 1.1.8-3ubuntu2:

xine-lib (1.1.8-5) unstable; urgency=low

  [Darren Salt]
  * Build fix: avoid lots of make install invocations (introduced in -4).
  * Fix dependency issues with respect to documentation symlinks.
The problem was an incorrect debian/shlibs.local. (Closes: #457328)
  * Use a symlink for libxine1-dbg's documentation (this got missed in -4).
  * libxine1-bin (-4) should have contained AUTHORS. This is fixed.

-- Darren Salt [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat, 22 Dec 2007
17:49:54 +

xine-lib (1.1.8-4) unstable; urgency=low

  [Darren Salt]
  * libxine1-dbg was missing some debug symbols. Fixed by building it after
xine-lib's other arch:any packages.
  * Introduce a new package, libxine1-bin, which contains the binaries
formerly in libxine1. Dependencies are moved and updated accordingly.
thanks to Bill Allombert. (Closes: #454267)
  * Except for libxine1-doc, libxine1-bin and libxine-dev, symlink to
libxine1-bin's documentation. (AUTHORS is now in libxine1-bin.)
  * Backported patches from upstream 1.1 branch:
- Fix compilation of DXR3 support with external ffmpeg.
This is currently only needed for compilation against libavcodeccvs-dev
(from debian-multimedia). Untested with actual DXR3 hardware since I
  have none. (cset e55bc398cc7c)
- Fix a problem with non-seekable Flash video (cset de8c671a419c)
- Fix missing channels.conf with ATSC(cset fd875c4a15bc)
- Fix a possible crash when changing channels (DVB)(cset bf1ec833d87a)
- Don't stop reading Ogg streams early (cset e4c8ac4a6b49)
- Fix a possible crash when a video output is closed (cset 06494c094761)
- Fix a possible crash when video playback is finished (cset 293845e465cc)

  [ Reinhard Tartler ]
  * Bug fix: FTBFS with GCC 4.3: missing #includes, thanks to Martin
Michlmayr and Daniel Schepler (Closes: #455438, #455322).
  * Bug fix: libxine1-plugins: should not depend on libxine1-gnome,
thanks to Hermogenes Hebert Pereira Oliveira. (Closes: #454162).
Instead, a new package is introduced: libxine1-all-plugins, which
additionally depends on the gnome plugin.
  * remove the jack plugin. According to upstream it is unfinished and of
poor quality. A rewrite is available in the 1.2 branch.
  * adjust dependencies on libxine1-dev and libxine1-dbg
  * add XS-DM-Upload-Allowed: yes field to debian/control
  * Bug fix: xine-lib: FTBFS on GNU/kFreeBSD (debian specific part),
thanks to Petr Salinger (Closes: #449531). Patch applied with some
(minor) modifications.
  * Bug fix: libxine1: FTBFS on GNU/kFreeBSD, thanks to Uwe Hermann
(Closes: #438849). Patch taken from upstream hg repo, cset
1db8870cd7c9
  * Bug fix: typo A various plugins in package description,
thanks to Philippe Cloutier (Closes: #455067).

[Bug 178125] Re: No battery detected in Alpha2

2008-01-03 Thread Leann Ogasawara
Hi All,

Thanks for all of your comments. Per the kernel team's bug policy, can
you please attach the following information. Please be sure to attach
each file as a separate attachment.

* uname -a  uname-a.log
* cat /proc/version_signature  version.log
* dmesg  dmesg.log
* sudo lspci -vvnn  lspci-vvnn.log

For more information regarding the kernel team bug policy, please refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies

It does sound like this is a regression from 2.6.22. If any of you are
ambitious and willing, it would be very helpful if you could do the
following:

1) Verify this bug exists in the upstream mainline kernel. Steps to build and
boot the mainline kernel can be found here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/GitKernelBuild
2) Perform a git-bisect to narrow down the offending patch which causes the
regression. Refer to the following link for help:
http://www.kernel.org/doc/local/git-quick.html
3) Lastly, if the bug does exist upstream, it would be great to also open an
upstream bugzilla report. Refer to the Reporting Bugs Upstream section from
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/GitKernelBuild

Thanks again and we appreciate your help and feedback.

[Bug 136994] Re: Please make 0.1-RC1 or later of roundcube available in repositories

2008-01-03 Thread Mathias Gug
Thanks for your patch.

The current situation is that there are two packages providing roundcube:
  * roundcube-webmail is packaged by Ubuntu.
  * roundcube is packaged by Debian.

I'd advise to drop roundcube-webmail and replace it with roundcube. In
order to do so, a transitional package for roundcube-webmail that
depends on roundcube should be used. That way, no modification to the
roundcube package is needed.

[Bug 180212] Please include these improvements in the GeoIP-Python package

2008-01-03 Thread James Henstridge
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: python-geoip

Mark asked me to make a few improvements to the Python GeoIP bindings.
It would be good to see these changes merged in to the python-geoip
package for Hardy. I've submitted the changes upstream, already but
would like to make sure the changes make it into our package too.

I'll attach the Bazaar branch containing my changes. Revision 13
represents the last tarball release (what the current package is based
on), so the diff from there to head will represent the changes since
then (including a GPL - LGPL license change) plus my improvements.

[Bug 70739] Re: CPU fans won't start for Thinkpad 770E and 390E

2008-01-03 Thread randallw
Hi Leann,

Actually, now that I have discovered what is going on, I don't think my
problem is a linux/ubuntu bug. It is caused by a broken acpi DSDT on my
computer. (I even paid to upgrade my bios before finding that article,
and it made no difference). It seems that a broken DSDT is not at all
uncommon.

A quick search of cpu temp in ubuntu bugs finds a few items which may
well be realted (85984, 111576, 27233, 152988) and also for cpu fan
(72775,64691,70599,140468,160291). (#140468 was exactly the problem I
was having in edgy.)

For the original problem reported for this bug, it is probably worth
looking at a the ACPI settings/logs including what temp it thinks the
CPU is and what the trip points, polling frequencies and initial fan
settings are. Every single one of those items (reported temps, trip
points, polling freq, initial fan state) was broken for the DSDT on my
computer. Last night after fixing my DSDT and running a CPU intensive
task I got the CPU temp up to 50C (active cooling) and I heard the fan
speed up for a little while. After that it wouldn't get any hotter,
which I suppose is exactly what it is supposed to do.

So unless you think otherwise, I don't think there is any new bug to
report.

Cheers,
Randall.

[Bug 145112] Re: Random NVidia Proprietary Driver Lock-Ups with dual core + 7300

2008-01-03 Thread lanzen
Ok, I have tested OliverP's suggestion and have added;

[code]
def is_enabled(self):
Returns True if the module is enabled.
return True
[/code]

What happens after is that the restricted drivers management window
doesn't appear any more. In a way it's a good thing because it avoids
mistakenly activating the download of the official driver.

2008-01-03 Thread jtholmes

Could you supply the release feisty, gutsy or number 7.04, 7.10 etc.

Can you list the commands/procedures you used to upgrade

Did you perform all available upgrades (i.e. all pacakges) or only a few

Can you edit the System-Admin menu and do the following

Edit the System Monitor Entry

  Is the Name Field Populated

Look at the Icon Window, does it contain the System Monitor Icon

If you are unsuccessful in the above, then

Can you edit the System-Admin menu and try to manually add
gnome-system-monitor to it

If you are unsuccessful in the above, then

Can you add anything to the System-Admin menu

Hi-
Sorry I don't really understand what you mean. I upgraded from 7.04 to
7.10a couple of months ago and today I upgraded to
8.04. Before upgrading to 8.04, the update manager shows my system is up to
date.
