Re: [Bug 395241] [NEW] package mysql-server-core-5.0 (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite `/usr/sbin/mysqld', which is also in package mysql-server-core-5.1
Hi Mathias, I uninstalled everything and started clean. I did following in order to get mysql working. 1. install mysql-server-core-5.1 2. install mysql-server-5.1 At this step installation did not complete successful. On looking at log I figured out that /var/run/mysqld folder does not exist and that'e where mysqld fails to spawn itself. 3. At this point I created /var/run/mysqld 4. Changed owner ship by following: sudo chown mysql:mysql /var/run/mysqld After these changes I am able to run mysql and connect to it. But after that when I was trying to install PHP5 and did sudo apt-get install php5mysql, the mysql installation broke again. To me it seems that php5mysql tries to install mysql-server-5.0 dependencies which conflicts with mysql-server-5.1 So I had to restart again from point 1. Right now I am trying to find how can I get php5mysql installed so that my LAMP installation goes through. Any inputs on this would be really great. [Bug 392532] Re: apache2.2-common: /etc/init.d/apache2 script is empty
Hi I have noticed the same problem. My /etc/init.d/apache2 file is emptied occasionally. I also noticed that new files apache2.1 apache2.2 etc was created in the same directory. It seemed like the handling of logfiles where older files are kept with a .'integer' extension. I have several times copied back the apache2.1 file to its original name. But now and then maybe a week or so has to pass, then it happens again. With the result that apache doesnt start at reboot. I also noticed some time ago that the time stamp of the emptied filed was close to (or same dont remember) en entry in some logfile saying syslogd restart or similar. Sorry I couldn't find the exact info right now. So my suspicion is that somewhere the path of the logdirectory is mixed with the /etc/init.d directory/files. my system: uname -a Linux myran 2.6.28-11-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 01:57:59 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux dpkg -l | grep apache ii apache22.2.11-2ubuntu2.1 Apache HTTP Server metapackage ii apache2-mpm-worker 2.2.11-2ubuntu2.1 Apache HTTP Server - high speed threaded model ii apache2-utils 2.2.11-2ubuntu2.1 utility programs for webservers ii apache2.2-common 2.2.11-2ubuntu2.1 Apache HTTP Server common files -- apache2.2-common: /etc/init.d/apache2 script is empty https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/392532 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to apache2 in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 395425] [NEW] Installer silently crashed at the end. Not obvious - installed system works.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubiquity At the end of the installation, I am taken to the live desktop. This strikes me as weird later, but now I simply reboot into a fully working new grub and karmic partition. Much later, I notice that ubiquity, casper, gparted and other packages that should have been removed at the end are on the system. Then, I discover that /var/log/installer doesn't exist. I've just reproduced this for the third time. I'm no longer certain there's a bug, because of two things I missed the first two times. Nonetheless, I decided it was worth entering, as I didn't realize there was a crash, even the second time! Only when I asked why the installer would exit to the live desktop instead of rebooting did it become clear what happened here. The new developments are: - Physical errors on a hard drive. These could have been there the entire time, and somehow caused the crash (the drive has been unused for a while and the graphical installer doesn't mention the errors -- I only noticed because I looked at the console this time). Is it worth doing it again after I replace that drive? - The crash notification. The first two times, I probably rebooted manually before it appeared. This time, I already had a terminal and ubuntu-bug ubiquity open before it appeared. The floating notification only says that some app has crashed (clicking it tells me that it was ubiquity). Is this the only intended notification that the installer crashed? This is the karmic alpha 2 amd64 desktop live installer, with Install Ubuntu rather than Try Ubuntu chosen at start all three times. I've tried reproducing this in VirtualBox on the same system and failed (the installer finished as it should). Forgive me if this is the wrong place to post this, but I get this when trying to install 9.04 on two Toshiba Portege 7200's and a Compaq AP500. On all three I have installed and run many previous versions of Ubuntu. They all run 8.04 fine at the moment. I have scoured the forums and tried all sorts of options (see my May 29 post at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1134107page=6). I have used various different CD's. Yesterday I tried the alternate one. This ran the install process fine, including a fair amount of network activity. But when rebooting after the install (with quiet removed, also with various permutations of noapic apci=off nousb all_generic_ide), it again fails with udevd-event [945]: '/sbin/modprobe -b pci:v125Dd000...' ... abnormal exit -- udevd-event (1558): run_program: '/sbin/modprobe' abnormal exit https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/362766 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I recently opened a print queue to find the same document 6 times. Normally the problem is a simple as the printer being switched off, or a cable being unplugged. I suggest that if the same document is sent more than once to a printer that there should be a notification of this, and maybe a dialogue confirming that you want to send the document multiple times. the solutions are your decision, whether you decide using any.. thanks in advance.. ** Affects: cups (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- ubuntu CUPS doesn't prevent multiple printing (or the same document) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/395439 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 394826] Re: HDD unusual high temperature and activity in Ubuntu Jaunty
Definetely something is very wrong there at my HDD. This morning I took an hour to experiment it. First, while on batery, the temperature was 33 Celsius at HDD and the number of cycles increased from 1458 to 1470 in about 3 minutes. Next, I used the AC power adapter, and the temperature increased to 48 Celsius degrees, without opening any other application. So, a 15 Celsius increase. But the 1470 number of cycles stopped increasing and is still now after half an hour . How can I get rid of acpi and Laptop Mode? Laptop Mode is on False, but it is a 1 when related to batery. [Bug 395442] [NEW] Package Manager stuck with error.
Public bug reported: Could not initialize the package information An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information. Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message: 'E:Could not open file /var/lib/dpkg/status - open (2 No such file or directory), E:The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.' Cannot run Package Manager, the program is being blocked by the error message that pops up. When error message window is closed, Package Manager closes too. This happened after an incomplete install. I was expecting a functon that will just cancel the incomplete installation and clear the system of that program that malfunctioned.
